this man is an Internet myth that originated in September of 2009 on a website named this man org the website claimed seven 2006 a patient of a psychiatrist in New York drew a picture of this man and said he's been appearing in her dreams she says on several occasions he has given her advice but she's never seen him before in real life the psychiatrist kept the picture on his desk for a few days until another patient recognized the man as appearing in his dreams yet he had never seen him in real life within just a few months four additional people recognized this man in the picture everyone simply refers to him as this man the website claims it from 2006 until today there have been at least 2000 people who have all claimed to see this man in their dreams these people are very diverse ranging from Los Angeles Berlin Salle Paulo Tehran Beijing Rome Barcelona Stockholm Paris New Delhi and Moscow apparently the website was created to further research into why this man has been impairing in so many people's dreams so have you seen this man the dreams that this man appears in have been reported to be both nightmares and good dreams here are three examples of dreams that people have allegedly shared I've had this recurrent dream for some years now a tall dark man shows me a picture and asked me if I can recognize my father in it the man in the picture is this man I've never seen before and looking nothing like my dad nevertheless cyan explicably answer I do not recognize my father at this point I usually wake up feeling very peaceful other times the dream continues and I'm standing before my father's grave I play some flowers on the ground and I realize that photograph on the tombstone is missing another dream goes I fell in love with this man from the very first time I saw him in my dream even though if I think about it I must admit he's really ugly and had each and every time he sweeps me off my feet with his romantic gestures and sweet words he buys me flowers of jewelry he takes him out to dinner or to the beach to watch the sunset and another dream was I dreamt of this man when I was in 10th grade he hasn't been in any recurring dreams just one very memorable and terrifying dream in my dream I'm stuck in a room sitting on a stool a few feet away from me there was a television set I was visited by two men I've never seen them before not this man and they both attacked me I woke up covered in sweat and tears now screaming I somehow fell asleep again and then I found myself back in the room I started screaming and crying then this man showed up on the screen I begged him not to harm me he didn't change his blank expression or speak he slit my throat and then I woke up I suppose he led me out of the nightmare but I couldn't stop thinking about him for weeks I still have some of the sketches I drew of him I know it's kind of weird the website is listed several theories for why this man appears in so many people's dreams the theories they list are the archetype theory the religious theory the dream server theory if the dream limitation theory and the daytime recognition theory now I want to point out this whole phenomenon is indeed a hoax and I will explain why in a minute but the closest has come to the truth is with the dream imitation theory and the daytime recognition Theory the dream imitation of theory states this phenomenon has arisen casually and progressively developed by imitation basically when people are exposed to this phenomenon they become so deeply impressed that they start seeing this man in their dreams the data in recognition theory states that the apparitions of this man are purely casual normally we don't remember precisely the faces we see in our dreams the image of this man would thus be an instrument which in the subjects waking life facilitates recognition of an undefined image I'm sure you've heard of this man before as was really popular at one time there's even several creepypastas written about it but in case you haven't heard of this and now you have a sufficient amount of knowledge about what this is so I think it's time I debunk this now I first want to say that if you believe you have seen this man in your dreams it's probably just because of the fact that we don't clearly remember the places we see in our dreams so if you're seeing a picture of this man and being asked to be seeing him in a dream before then you might just be subconsciously substituting the picture for the face you saw in your dream which is very similar to what the daytime recognition theory states and if you have seen this man before in her dreams after hearing about all of this that's obviously just because the whole thing was still in your mind even after going to sleep now about the back story given to the myth there is an issue with it in the back story is as a woman drew a picture of this man and gave it to her psychiatrist apparently the psyche items left on his desk which is supposedly how the other patient recognized it it doesn't make any sense because everything we shared the psychiatrist for the most part should be kept confidential so I honestly doubt after receiving a picture from a patient the psychiatrist will just leave it on his desk for all his other patients to see that just doesn't make any sense and if that wasn't enough you should also know the website was created by a marketing strategist named Andrea Nutella interestingly enough she also runs an advertising agency called guerilla marketing which creates hoaxes and designs weird art projects the this man website was acquired by a horror movie company to promote their upcoming film named this man which was supposed to be directed by bryan bertino the film must not have been finished since I really can't find out anything about it except for from the IMDB page so that's really all it ever was a clever marketing technique thanks for watching and I'll see you on the flipside you
