This Is What Happens to Jets That Can't Fly Anymore

seeing those proud airplanes taking down it does feel a little strange that's the pinnacle of the entire world's technology or civilization in a lot of ways [Music] [Music] I am NOT a morning person but I'm usually up at 4 a.m. we do tell me in about 6 o'clock in the morning just because of the heat out here from the desert [Music] my name is Rick and we work for Jett yard I've been recycling airplanes for about eight years now it's a great job it's fun being able to walk through the cockpit you're like wow [Music] [Music] my name is sean i'm nanpi mechanic for jet yard the more expensive parts are usually the first parts to come out of the plane landing gear all the avionics if there's engine still on the plane we get the engines out all the parts that we pull they'll be sold to other companies that need parts to keep their planes flying I basically look at a plane and that's my playground for the day [Music] when you're out here it's 110 115 degrees then you're inside the airplane no air conditioning no air movement now you're looking about 130 degrees it'll feel like an oven in there [Music] you you touch the skin especially during the summertime you will give yourself 30 burns [Music] once we get all of the parts out of the plane the cutting crew comes out and they rip the plane apart [Music] [Music] [Music] basic like a pack of wolves going to a carcass that you start corning that is there at all [Music] our typical day we usually work two hours take a 10-minute break work another two hours another 10-minute break and then we do another two hours from a 30-minute lunch usually we'll do a like a potluck or someone like I brought our menudo bring some for everybody and we here not like we get out of here and we go somewhere else we don't got time for that I got two jobs what do you do i do pest control the aluminum that they crunched up all the plane will be probably smelted and it will be used for aircraft parts or car parts I'm Diego and I drive the forklift and I'm a mechanic since I was 2 my mom says I was always fascinated by airplanes like all my toys are all airplanes and from a young age I tear apart my bike and try to put it back together [Music] seeing a 4/7 is like looking at a giant with all the weight it can all this incredible even flies when I see you it get ripped apart it's a weird feeling such a different feeling that you get from when you watch them fly like see this beautiful aircraft just get Tomales into nothing I don't know it is a little sad when you look at it the plane perform for its whole life and it's a fitting end it's basically an organ-donor it transfers all of its parts off to other planes to keep everything else in service and keep it flying [Music] my name is Mike Matthews and I'm a pilot we've only been flying in airplanes for 120 years period think of all the centuries millennia that people wanted to do we get to do it some people get jaded by I never have people are always gonna be why you laughing why are you smiling because you kitty look around [Music]
