so yeah hey everybody look what's going on my name is Terry welcome back to the channel hope you guys and Gs are all doing well out there and I'm sorry if this audio is not normally what you used to hearing on this channel I would like to think it always sounds a little bit better than this here but this is just my internal microphone on my a74 I'm mainly using this here for Scratch audio today because I am reviewing for my own self here a new product and it's why I'm okay well not the microphone this is a a road mic I've had for a couple years now but the product is the uh Zoom F2 field recorder this is not the Bluetooth model there is a Bluetooth model but for my needs I don't necessarily need it and I mainly picked this thing up for one feature it has that in my opinion my wireless way more expensive DJI mic can't even compete with and that is 32bit float recording I'm going to go and switch to this microphone right now hopefully it should sound a lot better for you guys and gals so why did I want to make the switch to 32-bit float recording um mainly because I got tired of constantly needing to adjust my preamp levels inside of my a74 um it it's it's so weird I I I don't know why it's like this but depending on what day of the week it is it seemed like whenever I would use my DJI wireless mic kit here with my a74 it seemed like even if I keep if even if I kept all the gain levels the same across the board without changing anything some days it would be quieter some days it would be a little bit louder sometimes it wouldn't be as clear as it usually is kind of muffly kind of sound you know there would be preamp piss and it just didn't sound good and there were things I could do in post to clean it up because the thing with with the DJI mic here is that there are different gain levels for the microphones and the receiver itself here you know what I mean so I have to worry about the mic gain I have to worry about the wireless rece gain then I have to worry about how that competes with the gain of the preamps on my a74 that it's plugged up to so it's like with this here I literally just plug in a microphone hit record and that's it now what I like about this thing here too folks is that I actually have it turned on right now is that whenever this thing is on and recording you can actually bring this switch all the way down here to the bottom to lock the functionality of the device so that way there if it's in your pocket if it's clipped on to some 's belt loop or whatever uh you can just lock the settings here and no matter how much they push the buttons the record button or whatever it won't stop the recording so that is awesome now on the bottom here we just have a little uh micro SD card slot right here but I would actually recommend that you just put the micro SD card in there once forget about it because up top here right next to the uh headphone and microphone Jack you have a USBC Port up here at the top of the device next to the headphone and microphone Jack that you can use to interface with with the device itself uh via the Windows or Mac software to uh change some settings around that kind of stuff there but you could also use it to transfer the uh recordings on the device to your system that way as well too so what is 32bit float well the thing about 32-bit float audio is that I'm I'm not an audio person by any means like I think my microphones and stuff sound good that's through a lot of trial and error like I'm not an engineer at all okay so the way that uh I was so the way that it was explained to me was that think of it sort of kind of like a um log profile like I'm shooting here in on my a74 right this is slog 3 and the thing about slog 3 is that it's a flat color profile and it retains so much video information that in post you have a lot of latitude to bring it up bring it down add color add any kind of edit you might want to it and it will look very good as an end product you know well 32-bit float is kind of like that in the sense to where there's a lot of audio data in these files to where you can be as loud as you want you can yell scream loud whatever and it will not clip and if the waveform is really big cuz it's so loud you could actually bring it down and post and it will still sound great and a matter of fact you can even take quiet stuff like this here and bring it up without introducing any of that you know uh gain hiss that a lot of Cheaper things are known for like you know cheap preamps and stuff for microphones you can actually bring this quiet voice I'm using right now you can bring that up in post and it will sound just as good as if I'm talking regularly like this here but I don't ever want you guys and GS out there to think that 32-bit float is a cheat code for good audio no you still need to know good sound design you should always know how to adjust your gain levels in case you're ever in a situation to where you will have to adjust gain for whatever it might be you know what I mean maybe you're in a really loud environment really quiet environment whatever you still need to know audio basics in my opinion something like this here is good for someone like me because whenever I have an idea I like to just sit down here in front of my camera and talk about it off the script with no kind of planning or anything and I just kind of ramble sometimes and I do apologize for that but hey it's who I am as a person now at this point and hopefully you know that's what you guys sub subscribe for because you hit that subscribe button so I appreciate that and another thing I've noticed about this here is that the preamp in here is a very quiet preamp it gives plenty of gain to this road microphone but there's none of that hiss that I've seen in a lot of similar style of products before you know what I mean so that's also very cool and you know what I'm not going to lie I really can't wait to pull this stuff up in Premiere to see how this thing all sounds now and sync it all together for you guys to watch the final product here on YouTube but uh this really isn't a full-on review of this product I just wanted to let you all know something that I got a little new new uh new toy to check out here for the channel and whatnot you know what I mean how I always do for you guys and I I'll probably give you all an actual fullon
