This game is reviving a dead genre...

today we're checking out a really interesting game called silica it's an early access title that blends multiplayer first-person shooters with classic real-time strategy games and Hawks back to the sort of gameplay we had years ago in games like Command and Conquer Renegade and natural selection it's published by Bohemia interactive 2 who are responsible for the Armor Series and games like DayZ and believe it or not this project so far was mostly developed by a single Dev Martin melicharek who has used bohemia's incubator program which helps indie game makers develop their ideas with financial support and Publishing Services which I thought was pretty cool the concept is straightforward Aliens vs humans 12 players maximum per match on huge maps you can also play versus ai2 so one Commander per team plays the game from an RTS top-down perspective Gathering resources producing units issuing commands Etc and the other players on the team can play first person shooter or third person shooter style and beat the boots on the ground following orders driving vehicles and attacking targets it's still very early on in development but we did have a lot of fun here and as I mentioned it reminds us of games that we used to play when we were younger that have fallen out of fashion perhaps poised for a comeback with that said I'm going to show you mine and Tommy's first that looks like exactly like one of the things from June oh I found a crab there's an evil crab there's an eagle crab I think I killed it I think I got it let's get a closer look at this thing oh that is one ugly oh Tom look at the map look at the map enemies this is Starship Troopers yeah got him maybe their base is up here oh no what's this problem they're sending out bigger troops now scorpions oh no dead did you die I exploded come they overwhelmed me I'm back at base was this that big Harvester thing harvest the thing I've never look down there oh yeah so this is harvesting the silicone and then you can use that to upgrade the base and buy units and stuff yeah well I can only assume it is I can't actually tell it to do anything it looks like it's doing something well tell me what it's trying to do turn around the aliens are in the base check where it can you see that oh yeah I see that they're over that Ridge there's one on the top there look oh yeah I see him it's a scorpion I've got a quad building do you think I could kill that myself quite big can you kill him huh you're concealed apparently attack the Impaler take him out Jack is it in the Rock he's just on the other side I can't Pan the camera yes I can it's bleeding it's bleeding aim for the central nervous system oh nice Welcome To Earth oh did you build that car for me I did build you a car yeah that's lovely thank you oh the car's shooting bye all right you can get in it yeah the enemy Commander keeps sending in little Scouts the Harvest is back with the silicone yeah see what he's trying to do is very very slowly turn out of the team let's see if I can nudge him I don't think this is gonna work but whatever yeah let's just see this in real time oh oh no yeah I'm not as happy as him loads here Jack I'm in where are they are you with my men okay this is kind of cool but I think we've pushed back now now we've got a little sortie oh horned crab where giant enemy crab that's my forte oh is that it oh I found the giant enemy crop lost in it got it yeah dead oh there's a giant scorpion coming towards us oh no one of our little quads exploded Tom what oh no oh my God and another one is this thing is taking him down oh that does so much damage what is it oh it's got it absolutely ruined me I'm back in base right there's a heavy quads just built heavy quad purchase Point barrows wait I can what I can I can be a marksman okay yeah I've unlocked Marksman now confirm purchase I've got a sniper rifle Tom well this is an enemy right there enjoy 60 meters away behind you jack he's assaulting the barracks what what is it you look at him boom one shot one kill I barely scratched it then what the hell die got him did you finish building that heavy quad thing the vehicle down here oh yeah oh look at that that's a Humvee yeah that's so cool what is that we got a rocket launcher on it I don't know what it's got on its first right where are the enemies at well we've been heavily assaulted from all sides Harvest is under attack I'm going I'm going what is it it's a hunter die of a branch that's it you're doing it another one no it's got me it's okay you're fine oh it's dead is your Harvester finally harvesting Tom well it's trying it's very best I'll get out of his way don't run me over wait I am not in control of it it's gone it's just right here oh God I can't control it it just does what it wants we can't stop it man possess what's this here teleportation short-range teleportation module teleport across the battle so you can put another one of those somewhere else then oh there's loads of creatures attacking the barracks oh God Tom there's so many other parties here don't worry oh man this has got some potential this game from everyone can play as the other class what was it Marksman Rifleman Scout Rifleman this one oh God what it's over why what do you mean it's over there's a big rolling thing it's coming help something to the side of that wall what is it oh my God oh my what may God have mercy on us all it's destroying the facility it's climbing on top of it no haven't you got a nuclear missile or something I've got nothing it's it's too strong can I even kill it with this rifle oh it's rolling towards me get it Jack it's down to you now oh no the base is destroyed if only there were heavier weapons he's coming to you I've got it soft underbelly oh wow he just stepped today I mean I've barely scratched its armor I mean I've not teched up enough because the Harvester was like broken for so long right yeah I mean we're probably not going to be able to get tanks now I've got the heavy thing oh no save the bed save the man dude helmet can you see it's Health how much health does it have uh it's about it's on almost half Jesus Christ I put so many bullets into it is that his face you leave me alone oh it's going down bye I think it's so much oh it's spawning things no they look like camel spiders that's my worst nightmare horrible leave me alone the Harvest is still getting strong boy there's one on top of the structure over there Tom yeah he's getting killed by the base turret I think that's okay is my only line of defense come on it's not half HP on the bottom right I shot it so many times I don't think we can do this I've got the turrets shooting at everything that's cool well yeah the turrets we need to learn back to the turret it's our only hope yeah these have got heavy cannons can you afford to make any Vehicles anymore Tom there's a light quad you can pick up over here oh yeah yeah I got it I'm gonna try and get there if only it would just drive straight towards me okay I mean got it yeah so last line of defense now Jack he's climbing that Refinery get off the refinery oh God no it's ruining everything Tom bring it down Jake bring it down I'm taking shots from something no I'm gonna upside down what the hell are you spinning upside down oh that build is gone is there anything left the headquarters is the last that remains he's killing the headquarters Jack there's nothing we can do now it's over for us no we're my last breath I will stop him no we were ruined we had to go I think we needed tanks didn't we yeah if I teched up a bit faster it might have been okay but obviously the Harvester was jammed for a significant portion of the game that's a shame well that was good though guys thank you for watching hope
