okay I love this video I'm so excited there are a ton of things to do at Disney World that nobody talks about and we wanted to share a bunch with you today things that are completely free and totally fun that nobody's telling you you can do at Disney World but we will tell you let's get started hey everybody it's AJ for Disney food vlog and there are a handful of magical moments that happen daily throughout Disney World you just have to know what they are where they are and be there at the right time so we want to tell you about a bunch of things that nobody else is gonna talk to you about these are hidden gems that nobody really plans for but we want you to be able to plan for them and make sure they happen for your family now I'm gonna talk about a lot of cool stuff here today so if you want a full list of all of these fun and free things to do in Walt Disney World that nobody talks about head over to Disney food blog comm slash fun and free sign up for our free DFB newsletter and we will send you a PDF right to your inbox with all of these things listed so you don't have to worry about taking notes we'll send everything right to you cut over to Disney food blog comm slash fun and free sign up for our newsletter and we'll send you this PDF now let's get started so the first one is throwing out the first pitch at Casey's corner in Magic Kingdom this is so much fun so over in Magic Kingdom Casey's corner which is the hot dog restaurant on the corner of Main Street every morning they choose one or two kids to throw the first pitch because Casey's of course is baseball themed from Casey at the bat in Casey's typically opens around 10:30 so be there about 15 minutes before that to be safe so pitchers chosen will get a free brownie for throwing out their first pitch usually I guess that's not guaranteed but usually they get a free brownie so if your kids want to do this go test it out try it out see if those cast members will choose your kids to do it great way to get a free brownie those parties are really really good I like those all right next thing is pulling the sword from the stone so this happens throughout the day in Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom right in front of the prince charming regal carousel so it's searchable on my Disney experience under royal majesty makers that you can find what times it's going to happen it does happen a few times a day so children take turns trying to pull the sword from the stone until one child is successful pulling out Excalibur and that child is dubbed the hero of Fantasyland for the day now you super-strong grown-ups can try as well but my guess is you're not gonna be successful it's probably gonna be the kiddos next thing you can do become junior mayor of the Magic Kingdom so this is super fun book a reservation at the Plaza restaurant around 11:00 a.m. and the fire chief or possibly a city councilman or Main Street will come in and select a child to be named junior mayor I've also seen a junior fire chief named as well so they'll do a little ceremony and give the child a ribbon to wear and a Fastpass of their choice for the day so that's an awesome opportunity for your kid to have a magical moment over there at the Plaza restaurant are you also dance with your favorite Frontierland characters so this is the frontier land hoedown it's not on your times guide you don't know when it's gonna happen but it happens in front of the country Bear Jamboree and Magic Kingdom is kind of a flash mob style hoedown it's super fun and the country bears the Splash Mountain characters and other fun characters come out and dance with cast members and kids and it's basically kind of a line dance you gotta do a line dance so it's a fun magical moment good thing to catch on video to remember after your trip so you can just ask cast members in Frontierland hey when's the hoedown happening and they might be able to tell you exactly when to be back to take part in that alright now here's how you get a free gift a celebration button if you've been to Disney you've likely spotted people wearing those colorful buttons all around so these are complementary they cover everything from birthdays to weddings two anniversaries two first visits to simply just celebration buttons with a blank for whatever you're celebrating now the easiest place to grab these is actually at your resort so when you check-in tell the cast member you'd like celebration buttons they have a full assortment behind the desk and they'll customize them for you as well other spots to find those celebration buttons if you're not staying at a Disney Resort guest relations in any park though especially in Magic Kingdom there can be a line at times to receive one most restaurants have them behind the check-in podium and many gift shop stocked them behind the counter as well now again these are completely free you can get as many as you want there's gonna be a fun way to get a little extra attention from cast members and even from other guests and if it's your birthday be sure to grab one many table service restaurants will bring you a sweet treat in honor of your birthday on the house alright did you know you get pixie dusted in Disney World so children and adults alike can choose to get pixie dusted in the Magic Kingdom for free so you head to Castle Couture in Magic Kingdom ask any cast member they'll keep ones behind the counters and they swirl the wand over your head and ask you to make a wish and you better like glitter if you want to do this is it will be everywhere your clothes hair face everywhere so glitter will live in your hair free long time like multiple washes long so be prepared if you get pixie tested to have glitter happening for a long time in your life but that's how you get pixie dusted completely for free and it's a really fun thing especially if you've got a kid who did bibbidi bobbidi boutique or something like that that's a cute little addition completely free to do over there at Magic Kingdom next thing you can do is perform sort of with the citizens of Hollywood so Hollywood Studios has a troupe of street performers known as the citizens of Hollywood and they usually dress up in Old Hollywood attire they come out sporadically throughout the day and can pop up anywhere from Hollywood Boulevard to Sunset Boulevard and we call them a street masseur characters times as well they usually set up shop in the middle of the street for 15-minute shows and they grab guests to participate in their skits so if you want a chance to star in one of their skits or shows ranging from Hollywood casting calls filming takes of their next big movie or even a magic show grab a spot right in front when you spot them stopping to set up their eager to grab guests who look enthusiastic okay another fun magical moment is meeting tons of characters at once at what we call character Palooza so this is really hard to pin down most days in Hollywood studios it'll happen between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. somewhere near the Tower of Terror and you can meet a lot of characters as they head to fantasmic and also happens sometimes in Epcot characters come out next to the American adventure pavilion from a large backstage area to greet guests and this can often be 10 or more characters so ask cast members in the areas where this usually happens if it's happening that day and where it might be happening that day but this is probably one of those right place right time moments that you can't really plan because they don't really know when it's going to happen so just be prepared when you're walking past the American adventure pavilion or over by the Fantasmic theater if you see a whole bunch of characters then you'll probably be able to go and meet and greet them as well all right now this one seems like a no-brainer but I'm shocked at how many people don't actually know that you can do this in Disney World so that's ride the Main Street transportation so if you arrive early enough in Magic Kingdom you'll see that Main Street USA is home to a variety of turn-of-the-century transportation options all of which you can actually ride this happens every morning until the street gets crowded enough to not operate safely usually a bit before lunchtime there's a vintage style fire engine that cruises the streets you can hop a ride on a jitney that's an old-timey covered car you'll sometimes spot honking with cool-sounding old horns there's the horse-drawn trolley on the tracks that travel down Main Street as well and a couple of other options you may see going up and down the street so guests will be able to ride during the Main Street trolley show at 9:15 10:10 and but you can watch singers and dancers perform on the trolley in this show lasting about 20 minutes up and down the street and the songs and costumes change seasonally as well so it can be fun to keep an eye out for but when that trolley show isn't happening you should be able to ride the trolley yourself and it usually goes between Town Square and Cinderella's castle so it goes back and forth up and down Main Street so it's a really fun thing to do especially if you have a kid who really likes transportation cars trucks fire trucks things like that next thing you can do that a lot of people don't talk about and don't tell you about is taking part in the flag retreat ceremony in Magic Kingdom so all the flags displayed on Main Street aside from one are actually missing a star or a stripe meaning they don't need to be taken down at sunset the exception to this is the real flag at the flagpole at the front of Main Street in town square and the flag is raised before the park opens to guests but each day at 5:00 p.m. the flag is ceremonially lowered for the day now this is a short 15-minute ceremony usually accompanied by the dapper Dan's in the Main Street Philharmonic and a child is selected to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and a veteran is selected to receive the flag and carry it down Main Street so to increase your odds of being selected as the veteran arrive at the park before rope drop that morning and wear clothes that signify your military service chat with cast members and see if anybody can help you become the veteran for that date or if you want to make this a magical moment for your dad or your brother or your sister or somebody else who has been in the military or who is a veteran it's often a really special way to commemorate that service that they've performed talk to cast members may be a day or two before and see what you need to do to increase your chances of being chosen as the veteran now for the child leading the pledge gather around the flagpole about 15 minutes prior to increase your chances so cast members will pick a child who's waiting and I will warn you you want to bring Kleenexes because this is really heartwarming and wonderful to watch so if you happen to be in the Magic Kingdom at 5 p.m. on any given day go watch the flag ceremony it's really really nice it's a nice thing to share with your kids as well all right another thing that nobody's talking about or I should say I hear all the time from people hey I never knew this was happening I wish I'd known more about this my kids would really like it is becoming a Jedi so they do have the Jedi training academy even though galaxy's edge is open now you can still train to be a Jedi over there between back light Express and Star Tours in Hollywood Studios this 20-minute show happens each day in Hollywood Studios adjacent to star tours roughly every 40 minutes 30 kids ages 4 to 12 can participate in each show for free sorry grown-ups this is just for kids now the kids are taught the ways of the Jedi by a Jedi Master they get to Donna Jedi robe practice with a lightsaber and have a chance to fight either Darth Vader or kylo Ren with their lightsabers so it's really fun for younger kid OHS and a PhotoPass photographer is on hand to capture the whole thing so parents will get a photo pass card to access the pictures later on in their day or you can scan your magic and notice sign up head to the Indiana Jones Adventure outpost at Parc opening that's the most important thing about this go sign up early note your child has to be with you to sign up and spots do fill up fast so all spots are filled usually right at Parc open so plan to get there early if you want to sign up and pretty soon once the Star Wars galactic star cruiser opens guests staying in this immersive experience will also have an opportunity for kids to practice their Jedi training so be prepared for that but in the meantime if you have a little Jedi who's gonna want to do this be sure to get there at Parc opening mom and dad and sign up very quickly all right back to Magic Kingdom did you know you could be chosen as the grand marshal of the festival of fantasy parade so each day the festival of fantasy parade and the Magic Kingdom chooses a family or group to ride in a car is the special Grand Marshal of the parade for the day the parade runs most days at 3 p.m. but from now through the end of 2019 it's running at 2 p.m. so note that three o'clock parades at 2 p.m. and the parade starts to the immediate left of Splash Mountain in Frontierland that the grand marshals are chosen at random but to increase your chances head to where the parade comes out by Splash Mountain about 30 to 45 minutes before the parade cast members are usually standing near the gate there and colorful matching clothing and high-energy attitudes are all good to increase your chances of being chosen the grand marshals each receive a pair of Mickey ears embroidered Grand Marshal on the back that they can keep another way you can be part of the show in Disney World other than the Hollywood studios that we mentioned earlier is over in Magic Kingdom you can wake up Jose in the Tiki Room so the Enchanted Tiki Room and Magic Kingdom is a classic animatronic show each show starts with the birds in the room waking up to start the show and often the cast member will select a child to tap Jose awake so to increase your odds of this try to be seated on the end of the row of seats closest to the door you enter in on you can also get on stage during festival of the Lion King in Animal Kingdom the festival The Lion King show is a popular stage show in a que during the second half of the show the performers will choose multiple children from the audience to come up onstage and dance with small musical instruments when the cast members will try to choose kids from around the theatre so be sure to try to get their attention if your kid hopes to be chosen now if you have a budding dancer in your group you can also learn to Irish dance at Raglan Road so kids dining at Raglan Road at Disney Springs also have that chance to get up on stage and perfect their Irish dancing so booked a dinner reservation at Raglan and be sure when you check-in to ask to be near the main stage now it's very loud during the show but it could be worth it so the Irish dancers and musicians come out every 45 minutes or so and perform and near the middle of the show the dancers will walk around the dining area and choose children to come on stage they look for eager kids so be sure to wave them down if your kid wants to try and the dancers will take the children on stage show them a few dance steps and then the kids will get a brief chance to perform in front of other diners so each child a receive a certificate from the dancers after they leave the stage and smaller children will be escorted back to their table by a dancer so there's no posted age limit here it's at the dancers discretion and we've seen very young kids up on stage so this is a really fun thing to do if you happen to be in Disney Springs for the day something else you should look into is having a totally free resort day in Disneyworld this is a great opportunity if you need a little break from the parks or if you don't have a park ticket one day we have a whole video on resort activities by the way but here's a few we love that we haven't gotten a chance to mention before you can make a lei or take hula lessons at the Polynesian this is in the grand ceremonial house at the Polynesian to the left once you enter there's an older woman sitting making real flower leis she's been at the Polynesian since it first opened and guests him learned how she makes traditional flower leis and she often will teach children how to hula in the lobby so she's well into her 80s and still works full-time as a cultural representative at the poly teaching guests about her home of Hawaii you can also do cookie decorating and face painting at Animal Kingdom Lodge so every day at Animal Kingdom Lodge at 1:30 p.m. guests can head to boma to decorate a free animal shaped sugar cookie frosting and candy are provided to decorate as well and also at a kale the Mara from 2 to 3 p.m. daily guests can meet a cultural representative who will do traditional African face painting for free so that's a fun little thing to do if you happen to be an animal kingdom lodge for the day and don't forget about those campfire and movies at the resort this is one of the best freebies around Walt Disney World so every resort has differing schedules so be sure to check your resort activities guide in general the movies begin between 8:00 and 8:30 p.m. they usually happen outside they'll blow up a giant screen and you sit outside and watch the movie sometimes every night and sometimes just a few nights a week some resorts like Wilderness Lodge Fort Wilderness or Grand Floridian or a KL hosts nightly campfires as well so check your resort four times but most campfires begin around 6:00 or 6:30 p.m. depending on the resort many of those campfires will offer complimentary marshmallows for roasting and s'mores fixins available for purchase and also of course don't forget about the Chippendale campfire sing-alongs over there at Fort Wilderness we talk about it all the time it's so much fun completely free you go you get to meet Chip and Dale have a little sing-along and then watch a movie of course they do have two campfires that you can roast your marshmallows on so it's really fun really cute and totally free so there's a few great things you can do at Disney World that not a lot of people are talking about they're totally free super fun great magical moments for you and your kids and hopefully these tips will help you get chosen for these things or get access to these things that maybe you didn't know about before now if you want a full list of these everything we mentioned in the video today head over to Disney food
