not everyone who says to me lord lord will enter the kingdom of heaven but only the one who does the will of my father who is in heaven these are the commands that the living jesus gave as recorded in the four gospels and the book of acts presented here simply in canonical order starting with the book of matthew the commands of jesus as recorded in the holy gospel of jesus christ according to matthew amend your lives for the kingdom of heaven is at hand follow me blessed are you when they revile and persecute you and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake rejoice and be exceedingly glad for great is your reward in heaven for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you leave your gift there in front of the altar first go and be reconciled to them then come and offer your gift if your right eye causes you to sin pluck it out and cast it from you for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish than for your whole body to be cast into hell and if your right hand causes you to sin cut it off and cast it from you for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish than for your whole body to be cast into hell but i say to you do not swear an oath at all neither by heaven for it is god's throne nor by the earth for it is his footstool nor by jerusalem for it is the city of the great king nor shall you swear by your head because you cannot make one hair white or black but let your yes be yes and you'll know no for whatever is more than these is from the evil one do not resist an evil person if anyone slaps you on the right cheek turn to them the other cheek also and if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt hand over your coat as well if anyone forces you to go one mile go with them two miles give to the one who asks you and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you love your enemies bless them that curse you do good to them that hate you and pray for them which hurt you and persecute you that ye may be the children of your father that is in heaven be perfect therefore as your heavenly father is perfect be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them when you give to the needy do not announce it with trumpets as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets to be honoured by others truly i tell you they have received their reward in full but when you give to the needy do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing so that your giving may be in secret when you pray do not be like the hypocrites for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others when you pray go into your room and close the door and pray to your father who is unseen when you pray use no vain repetitions as the heathen for they think to be heard for their much babbling do not be like them for your father knows the things you have need of before you ask him in this manner therefore pray our father in heaven hallowed be your name your kingdom come your will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors and do not lead us into temptation but deliver us from the evil one for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever amen when you fast do not be like the hypocrites with a sad countenance for they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting assuredly i say to you they have their reward but you when you fast anoint your head and wash your face so that you do not appear to men to be fasting but to your father who is in the secret place do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth where moths and vermin destroy and where thieves break in and steal but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven where moths and vermin do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal for where your treasure is there your heart will be also do not worry about your life what you will eat or what you will drink nor about your body what you will put on is not life more than food and the body more than clothing look at the birds of the air for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns yet your heavenly father feeds them consider the lilies of the field how they grow they neither toil nor spin do not worry saying what shall we eat or what shall we drink or what shall we wear for the pagans run after all these things and your heavenly father knows that you need them seek first the kingdom of god and his righteousness and all these things shall be added to you do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself each day has enough trouble of its own do not judge or you too will be judged for in the same way you judge others you will be judged and with the measure you use it will be measured to you first remove the plank from your own eye and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye do not give what is holy to the dogs nor cast your pearls before swine lest they trample them under their feet and turn and tear you in pieces ask and it shall be given you seek and you shall find knock and it shall be opened unto you in everything do to others what you would have them do to you enter by the narrow gate for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction and there are many who go in by it because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life and there are few who find it beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly they are ravenous wolves you will know them by their fruits follow me and let the dead bury the dead son be of good cheer your sins are forgiven you go and learn what this means i desire mercy and not sacrifice for i did not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance be of good cheer daughter your faith has made you well according to your faith let it be to you pray the lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest as you go preach saying the kingdom of heaven is at hand heal the sick cleanse the lepers raise the dead cast out demons freely you have received freely give provide neither gold nor silver nor copper in your money belts nor bag for your journey nor two tunics no sandals nor staffs for a worker is worthy of his food whatever town or village you enter search there for some worthy person and stay at their house until you leave as you enter the home give it your greeting if the home is deserving let your peace rest on it if it is not let your peace return to you if anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet be wise as serpents and harmless as doves but beware of men for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues when they deliver you up do not worry about how or what you should speak for it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak for it is not you who speak but the spirit of your father who speaks in you when you are persecuted in one place flee to another do not fear them for there is nothing covered that will not be revealed and hidden that will not be known whatever i tell you in the dark speak in the light and what you hear in the ear preach on the rooftops do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell don't be afraid you are worth more than many sparrows he who has ears to hear let him hear come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden and i will give you rest take my yoke upon you and learn from me for i am gentle and lonely in heart and you will find rest for your souls either make the tree good and its fruit good or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad for a tree is known by its fruit he who has ears to hear let him hear he who has ears to hear let him hear listen and understand what goes into someone's mouth does not defile them but what comes out of their mouth that is what defiles them take heed and beware of the leaven of the pharisees and the sadducees if anyone desires to come after me let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me if your hand or foot causes you to sin cut it off and cast it from you it is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into the everlasting fire and if your eye causes you to sin pluck it out and cast it from you it is better for you to enter into life with one eye rather than having two eyes to be cast into hellfire take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones for i say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my father who is in heaven if your brother sins against you go and tell him his fault between you and him alone if he hears you you have gained your brother but if he will not hear take with you one or two more that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established and if he refuses to hear them tell it to the church but if he refuses even to hear the church let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector let the little children come to me and do not forbid them for of such is the kingdom of heaven if you want to be perfect go sell your possessions and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven then come follow me therefore to caesar the things which are caesar's and give unto god those things which are gods love the lord your god with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind this is the first and greatest commandment and the second is like it love your neighbor as yourself all the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments the teachers of the law and the pharisees sit in moses seat so you must be careful to do everything they tell you but do not do what they do for they do not practice what they preach they tie up heavy cumbersome loads and put them on other people's shoulders but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them but you do not be called rabbi for one is your teacher the christ and you are all brethren do not call anyone on earth father for you have one father and he is in heaven and do not be called teachers for one is your teacher the christ watch out that no one deceives you for many will come in my name claiming i am the messiah and will deceive many you will hear of wars and rumors of wars see that you are not troubled for all these things must come to pass but the end is not yet when you see standing in the holy place the abomination that causes desolation spoken of through the prophet daniel let the reader understand then let those who are in judea flee to the mountains let no one on the house top go down to take anything out of the house let no one in the field go back to get their cloak if anyone says to you look here is the christ or there do not believe it if they say to you look he is in the desert do not go out or look he is in the inner rooms do not believe it learn this parable from the fig tree when its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves you know that summer is near so you also when you see all these things know that it is near at the doors keep watch because you do not know on what day your lord will come so you also must be ready because the son of man will come at an hour when you do not expect him watch therefore for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the son of man is coming take eat this is my body drink from it all of you this is my blood of the covenant which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation put your sword in its place for all who take the sword will perish by the sword go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit and teaching them to obey everything you hear with the same measure you use it will be measured to you and to you who here more will be given in whatever place you enter a house stay there till you depart from that place and whoever will not receive you nor hear you when you depart from there shake off the dust under your feet as a testimony against them listen to me everyone and understand this nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them rather it is what comes out of a person that defiles them if anyone has ears to hear let him hear take heed and beware of the leaven of the pharisees and of the leaven of herod whoever desires to come after me let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me if you can believe all things are possible to him who believes do not stop him for no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me for whoever is not against us is for us truly i tell you anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the messiah another what god has joined together let no one separate let the little children come to me and do not forbid them for of such is the kingdom of god assuredly i say to you whoever does not receive the kingdom of god as a little child will by no means enter it go your way sell whatever you have and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven and come take up the cross and follow me have faith in god whatever you ask for in prayer believe that you have received it and it will be yours when you stand praying if you hold anything against anyone forgive them so that your father in heaven harvest truly is great but the labourers are few therefore pray the lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest go your way behold i send you out as lambs among wolves carry neither money bag knapsack nor sandals and greet no one along the road but whatever house you enter first say peace to this house and if a son of peace is there your peace will rest on it if not it will return to you and remain in the same house eating and drinking such things as they give for the laborer is worthy of his wages do not go from house to house whatever city you enter and they receive you eat such things as are set before you and heal the sick there and say to them the kingdom of god has come near to you but whatever city you enter and they do not receive you go out into its streets and say the very dust of your city which clings to us we wipe off against you nevertheless know this that the kingdom of god has come near to you do not rejoice in this that the spirits are subject to you but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven when you pray say our father in heaven hallowed be your name your kingdom come your will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us day by day our daily bread and forgive us our sins for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us and do not lead us into temptation but deliver us from the evil one ask and it will be given to you seek and you will find knock and it will be opened to you take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness but now as for what is inside you be generous to the poor and everything will be clean for you beware of the leaven of the pharisees which is hypocrisy for there is nothing covered that will not be revealed nor hidden that will not be known therefore whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light and what you have spoken in the ear in inner rooms will be proclaimed on the house tops my friends do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do but i will show you whom you should fear fear him who after he has killed has power to cast into hell yes i say to you fear him do not fear therefore you are of more value than many sparrows now when they bring you to the synagogues and magistrates and authorities do not worry about how or what you should answer or what you should say for the holy spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say take heed and beware of covetousness for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses do not worry about your life what you will eat nor about your body what you will put on life is more than food and the body is more than clothing consider the ravens for they neither sow nor reap which have neither storehouse nor barn and these if then god so closed the grass which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven how much more will he clothe you oh you have little faith do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink nor have an anxious mind for all these things the nations of the world seek after and your father knows that you need these things seek the kingdom of god and all these things shall be added to you fear not little flock for it is your father's pleasure to give you the kingdom sell your possessions and give to the poor provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out a treasure in heaven that will never fail where no thief comes near and no moth destroys for where your treasure is there your heart will be also be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him be ready because the son of man will come at an hour when you do not expect him when you go with your adversary to the magistrate make every effort along the way to settle with him lest he drag you to the judge the judge deliver you to the officer and your brothers or sisters your relatives or your rich neighbors if you do they may invite you back and so you will be repaid but when you give a banquet invite the poor the crippled the lame the blind and you will be blessed whoever has ears to hear let them hear use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves so that when it is gone you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings if your brother sins against you rebuke him and if he repents forgive him and if he sins against you seven times in a day and seven times in a day returns to you saying i repent you shall forgive him so likewise ye when ye have done all those things which i commanded you say we are unprofitable servants we have done that which was our duty to do arise go your way your faith has made you well behold the kingdom of god is within you the time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the son of man but you will not see it people will tell you there he is or here he is do not go running off after them for the son of man in his day will be like the lightning which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other but first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation it will be just like this on the day the son of man is revealed on that day no one who is on the housetop with possessions inside should go down to get them likewise no one in the field should go back for anything listen to what the unjust judge says and will not god bring about justice for his chosen ones who cry out to him day and night will he keep putting them off i tell you he will see that by armies then know that its desolation is near then let those who are in judea flee to the mountains let those who are in the midst of her depart and let not those who are in the country enter her for these are the days of vengeance that all things which are written may be fulfilled there will be signs in the sun moon and stars on the earth nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea people will faint from terror apprehensive of what is coming on the world for the heavenly bodies will be shaken at that time they will see the son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory when these things begin to take place stand up and lift up your heads because your redemption is drawing near look at the fig tree and all the trees when they sprout leaves you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near even so when you see these things happening you know that the kingdom of god is near but take heed to yourselves lest your heart be weighed down with carousing drunkenness and cares of this life and that day come on you unexpectedly for it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth watch therefore and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass and to stand before the son of man take this and divide it among yourselves for i say to you i will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of god comes this is my body which is given for you do this in remembrance of me he who is greatest among you let him be as the younger and he who governs as he who serves but now he who has a money bag let him take it and likewise a knapsack and he who has no sword let him sell his garment and buy one for i say to you that this which is written must still be accomplished in me and he was numbered with the transgressors for the things concerning me have an end pray that you may not enter into temptation why do you sleep rise and pray lest you enter into temptation daughters of jerusalem weep not for me but weep for yourselves and for your children for behold the days will come when men shall say blessed are the baron and the wombs that thing come upon you do not labor for the food which perishes but for the food which endures to everlasting life which the son of man will give you because god the father has set his seal on him this is the work of god that you believe in him whom he sent do not murmur among yourselves no one can come to me unless the father who sent me draws him do not judge according to appearance but judge with righteous judgment if anyone thirsts let him come to me and drink he who believes in me as the scripture has said out of his heart will flow rivers of living water let him that is among you without sin cast the first stone at her neither do i condemn you go and sin no more do not believe me unless i do the works of my father but if i do them even though you do not believe me believe the works that you may know and understand that the father is in me and i in the father if anyone serves me let him follow me and where i am there my servant will be also if anyone serves me him my father will honor walk while you have the light before darkness overtakes you whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going believe in the light while you have the light so that you may become children of light if i then your lord and teacher have washed your feet you also ought to wash one another's feet for i have given you an example that you should do as i have done to you a new commandment i give to you that you love one another as i have loved you that you also love one another let not your heart be troubled you believe in god believe also in me believe me when i say that i am in the father and the father is in me or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves if you love me keep my commandments peace i leave with you my peace i give to you not as the world gives do i give to you let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid remain in me as i also remain in you as the father loved me i also have loved you abide in my love this is my commandment that you love one another as i have loved you these things i command you that you love one another remember the word that i said to you a servant is not greater than his master if they persecuted me they will also persecute you if they kept my word they will keep yours also when the advocate comes whom i will send to you from the father the spirit of truth who goes out from the father he will testify about me and you also must testify for you have been with me from the beginning until now you have asked nothing in my name ask and you will receive that your joy may be full these things i have spoken to you that in me you may have peace in the world you will have tribulation but be of good cheer i have overcome the world jesus said to her do not cling to me for i have not yet ascended to my father but go to my brethren and say to them i am ascending to my father and your father and to my god and your god peace be with you peace to you as the father has sent me i also send you receive the holy spirit if you forgive the sins of any they are forgiven them if you retain the sins of any they are retained reach your finger here and look at my hands and reach your hand here and them i protected them and kept them safe by the name you gave me protect them by the power of your name whatever you ask the father in my name he will give you you may ask me for anything in my name and i will do it whatever you ask the father in my name he may give you until now you have asked nothing in my name ask and you will receive that your joy may be full i will do whatever you ask in my name so that the father may be glorified in the sun whatever you ask for in prayer with faith you will receive if you then though you are evil know how to give good gifts to your children how much more will your father who is in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him therefore i tell you whatever you ask for in prayer believe that you have received it and it will be yours but even now i hypocrites with a sad countenance for they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting assuredly i say to you they have their reward but you when you fast anoint your head and wash freely you have received freely give provide neither gold nor silver nor copper in your money belts nor bag for your journey nor two tunics nor sandals nor staffs for a worker is worthy of his food whatever town or village you enter search there for some worthy person and stay at their house until you leave as you enter the home give it your greeting if the home is deserving let your peace rest
