alright guys check this out this is really really cool [Laughter] we're on a hardwood floor i just pulled a board out right in the center of the floor with a little suction cup this isn't a cheesy laminate this is the real deal right that's three quarter inch white oak flooring but even better watch this we're gonna line it back up nice and flush that is cool i got a fun episode for you let's get going [Music] all right guys we actually met stellar floors about two years ago at a remodeling show and i was totally blown away by this i'd never seen anything like this before and what we're looking at here is basically a true hardwood floor it looks like this is a four five six inch board but here's the key right here this is some kind of a spline that's a patented deal that they've came up with that's how they connect the boards which allowed me to actually pull one out mid-span and i actually have the inventor on the job now evan last time i saw you was like two years ago in baltimore a lot's happened with your company since then yeah it's been an adventure we got to meet a lot of people and take part in a lot of really great projects and you're ready to go on this right we can people can order this floor from you today yeah we've been manufacturing floors in central pennsylvania for two years now that's pretty awesome all right evan let's show these guys how this floor actually installs shall we let's do it here's how it works what we have is we have the boards and then we have our connector clips and those connector clips get fastened to the one side you can lay out your row and lay out your pattern okay this allows you so you don't have a lot of seams matching together and then really once you have that you scoot it over against the other board and then it's just a quick stomp to put it down and i'll show you that right now all right the stomp method yeah there's a neat technique here so if you face backwards and you travel up the row you can kick it tight and stomp it in at the same time okay man that is wild evan and you know what i didn't hear evan i heard a lot of stomping and kicking i did not hear any compressors i didn't hear any nail guns right so this floor is a true floating floor it doesn't bond to the subfloor it's connected board to board that means as the floor expands and contracts as hardwoods have to do there'll be no gapping so you can go through the normal moisture cycles in your home and not have to worry about those gaps showing up and to be honest i kind of expected there to be a little bit of a clicky clacky sound with a floating floor but i'm not hearing any of that here yeah what we do in our facility is we mill true hardwoods high quality hardwoods down to thousands of an inch so that we can keep those nice dimensions we polyurethane the surface and then we seal the back of the board to help keep that stability and avoid those moisture changes that might happen so it's sealed on all six sides basically totally sealed all right evan here's the the million dollar question what's it cost compared to a traditional hardwood floor you know i'm spending maybe 12 to 20 dollars on my hardwood floors that are nailed sanded and finished in place where are you guys landing so we are landing right there with a full system so the install times are faster and that's exactly where we are with our hardwood floors that's amazing so you're right in there yeah but my hardwood floors once i nail them down you are not pulling those up anytime soon and i think that's the big innovation guys that really caught my attention when i met evan two years ago was you know where this future kitchen's gonna be if they had a dishwasher that leaked literally the homeowner could just grab a suction cup and pop those boards out let it dry right are there other scenarios you can think of that might be helpful so um yeah or that or if i drop a cup here and dent a board and i have a dented board usually you'd have to refinish your whole home to get that floor down to level just pop that board out you only started it earlier just pop this pop that board out you always got a couch or something tuck it under that couch pull the board out from there that's the same size and pop it in you're ready to go and it's a real hardwood floor so if you wanted to refinish this someday you could literally just pop the floor out refinish it outside put it through a planer a sander a drum sander or whatever and totally change the floor and put it back down right yep exactly it allows you to stay in your home more it allows the installers to come in and come out and not have to move out to a hotel or something for two weeks while they're reinstalling refinishing letting it dry and all those other things so cool evan guys i'll put a link in the description for evan's company very very impressive and this job we're on is actually my designer friend kim lewis's project i'll put a link to her youtube channel because she's actually making a couple youtube videos about this project as well so if you want to learn more about this after it's done go over to kim's channel guys if you're not currently a
