These 5 layering tips changed my life (they will change yours too)

[Music] foreign what is your spring like where i live still pretty cold every easter my son still wears a dumb jacket for the easter egg hunt in april if you're like me can't wait to wear dresses and skirts layering is critical layering over dresses with skirts actually harder we hotter than pins and jeans if you like midi skirt this don't make the mistake i used to make for years i knew something didn't look right about this outfit but i couldn't figure out why and now i do there's two ways you can make your midi skirt outfit look much more flattering first get a long coat this is a maxi lens change coat from bb dakota look at how long it is about two to three inches above my ankles this is the lens i used to stay away from because i'm five too i thought this kind of lens is designed for taller girls however once you put on this coat that's when the magic happens notice immediately elongates you form the unbroken vertical line from head to toe and this is exactly what you need if you're petite like me or if you want your legs to look longer regardless of your height and better yet it solves a midi skirt problem look how it covers your skirt completely that eliminate that horizontal line which is very unpleasant and make your legs look cut off very important you want to make sure the belt position is higher than your natural waistline this is my belly button it's almost at the second bottom of the coat the belt starts at the first button of the coat look at how much higher it is than the natural waistline this is going to trick the eyes into believing your waistline starts higher and it's going to assume anything under that waistline is your legs you can tie the belt on the side or you can also do it in the back when you do it in the back it doesn't petite sizes that's why i had to start looking in regular size section so if you're petite like me don't roll it out i do have to do some work to shorten the sleeves but the lens works out perfect another very important thing because it's so long you do want to make sure you wear heels if you wear flats it's not going to look right because of the length another great way to layer over your midi skirt nobody's talking about this if you wear a jacket this lens this one is from blank nyc a sweet motor jacket one of my favorites you know why because i discovered this lens goes with almost every skirt in my closet when you wear this with a midi skirt it's gonna divide your body into one third on top and two-thirds at the bottom that is the rule of thirds the most pleasant proportion to the eye proportion is critical regardless of your height the right proportion can make you look taller and leaner in the wrong proportion exactly the opposite i do have a whole other video on this topic is still pretty chilly a sweet jacket is perfect for the weather up and down in the spring this jacket is not in petite sizes but it really works out well on me another reason i really like a suite jacket for the spring is because the fabrics add a different contrast to the material of the skirt you can wear this jacket zipped up like this or you can keep it open like this a shorter jacket is always easier to style however a lot of you have left comments below you don't like shorter jackets because they expose your mission or if you have wider hips bigger size you don't want them to be showing you want them to be covered i have a solution for you if you're looking for a longer cardigan that's long enough to cover your belly and part of your thighs you want to go with something like this this is called the waterfall it has an even hem the best part of this not only that covers you or the right places it also because of the hem is uneven it's very different than the horizontal line of the traditional cardigan so this is going to be much more flattering this one is from express it's longer so definitely serve the purpose of camouflaging anything you do not want to show but there are also brands making shorelines because this is a very untrend by the way one of the very few twins that actually are flattering this lens works very well with any of your jeans and pants i love the combination of beige and white in the spring but you can switch and pair it with any of your pens and jeans it's always gonna work because this is neutral color that's the thing you want something like this to be neutral color beige or black by the way express also has in black because that you don't have to think about if it goes with your outfit if you're like me i am always the kind of person who needs an extra blanket on the airplane so this is something i would put in my luggage in my carry-on i am going somewhere or put it in my car road trip if you're sitting in the air conditioned office this is something you want to have in your office drawer i like to wear this open front because that's how you can see the outfit under it but if you want to cover yourself very easy i like to use a brooch i got this one from a teeny boutique in manhattan i use it on all my open brown cardigans you can adjust to the position higher lower whatever fits you some of us have wider hips and thighs but you may have a small waist yep i'm talking about those of you if you happen to have a pear shape your waist is actually one of your best assets so with something like this if you feel like you still want to accentuate your teeny waistline ta-da you can add a skinny belt but i know this is not for everybody this is only if you feel comfortable drawing attention to your waistline do not do this if you have a midsection concern and notice the belt i am using it's from the same color scheme so it is a contrasting of the different shades of the beige i will not use a very sharp contrasting belt draw too much tension to the waistline when you add a belt not only it cinches your waist but also it defines your proportion better see this is higher than my natural waistline once again this is going to improve your proportion it's going to make your legs appear longer i cannot talk about spring and summer layering without mentioning the denim jacket yes they are one of my favorites i wear them pretty much year round it really is so versatile that's why i got them in different styles and in different lengths this one is my most recent purchase from macy's inc international they do make petite size that's the best news because now i don't have to worry about the sleeve too long it's the blazer style so it looks more polished than the tracker style with this jacket you can definitely with any of your casual outfits this is a black legging from anter petite and loafers from steve madden but my favorite part is to add a denim jacket to a feminine outfit i love that contrast this is a feminine outfit i could wear to the office but on the weekend when i top it over with a denim jacket and i'm switching my pumps to the pointed toe suede boots now it looks more casual and it's really fun to have this kind of contrast and play with different style of your outfit and this is a trunker style denim jacket from banana republic petite size i love this one because it literally goes with every bottom in my closet and i can even top it over my dresses and skirts my favorite way is to pair this croplands jacket with a very long white leg pants like this it really elongates my legs to the maximum if you're petite like me if you want to make your legs look longer try this pairing you will not be disappointed there's one layering piece that everybody has that is cardigan they may sound easy but they are actually the hardest things to wear why because they could easily age you if you don't wear it the right way the cardigan can make you look older than you are we don't want that we want to look youthful we want to look stylish in the cardigan some of you have mentioned that oh i have a cardigan in my drawer for 10 years but i just barely wear it
