[Music] all right back here buried is the yamaha raptor 700 this project has been on hold for a couple weeks because i was waiting for some new parts a couple of videos ago we bought this thing for i think it was 1750 is what i paid for it for raptor 700 that's a pretty good price we actually got running to and figured out the no spark situation if you guys want to go watch those videos those are all on my youtube channel um of me picking this up getting it to run getting spark and then we did the tear down on it because the case was split very badly on this thing i think water got in the case somehow and split the case or cracked the case i should say but you can see the crack right there pretty bad and then a chunk of it is out of it right here and the other case half is over here you can kind of see how bad the damage is that crack went all the way big chunk of it out right there so we ended up ordering new cases off of ebay they were 900 but they're used and in very good condition not a single thing wrong with them that i could see and then the bearings came with it all new bearings so everything is perfect on this thing and all we really have to do is get the crank back in the crank is sitting in the freezer right now i just got that out of the other case half over here which was pretty tricky to do so this raptor 700 when i split the cases for the first time the crank was stuck in this side with the bearing so what i did to get that out was i put this whole thing in the freezer overnight this whole case and it and the crank was in there and the bearing was in there put that in the freezer overnight and then i took my torch propane torch and i uh torched the ares around here around the bearing the aluminum so that that would expand outwards this way and then the bearing was cold so that was expanding in so i put pressure on it with the crank puller right there and i just continuously dip the area around here and eventually it popped and the whole crank came out with the bearing which is what we wanted so right now the bearing and the crank are in the freezer waiting to uh get installed into our new crank cases right here which i already got the transmission back in here which was pretty exciting to do there are three shift forks in here one right here one right there and one right there so it's a little bit tricky to get in but now we've got a very smooth transmission here and everything is super smooth shifts throughout the gears as far as i can tell right now we'll test it out once we get it back together then we got the counter shafts in both of those in nice and smooth in there and i lubed everything up with uh assembly lube so all the bearings are good to go and lubed up for reassembly we're gonna wait for that crank to get out of the freezer and then we're gonna install that get these cases closed and start assembling the rest of the engine hopefully today we will have the first start on it and then the first ride so stay tuned for that we've got a ton of work to do so let's get going on that all right so i had to weld up this adapter um the adapter that came with the kit was not big enough i'll kind of show you ones that came here so these came with the kit and that hole is not big enough you can see the diameter so that fits on over the crank and we're going to pull the crank into the bearing so you kind of need a good puller for that so what i did was take one of these i had right here weld it onto the nut and then that should fit right onto the uh the crank right there so hopefully those welds hold all right we're gonna heat the aluminum right here where the bearing's gonna fit in and we've got the bearing in the freezer so we'll quick get the bearing from the freezer and drop it in and it should just drop right in if not we've got the puller and we can pull it on if we have to oh gonna heat this up all right that's heating up let's go grab the crank hopefully we can just drop this right in [Music] i might have to get the puller set up now a so oh man all right we're close all right i think we've got her all the way in one more tug here yeah i'm gonna take a feeler gauge and see if that uh gap is closed all the way yeah that's all the way off all right we can back off this tool now if i can that was on there tight hopefully the crank spins smoothly still it looks like our little tool held up so that weld held up pretty good there's a lot of tension on there all right crank spins i think oh yeah all right crank is in place i put the transmission on this side where the crank sits because it was easier to install that way so the transmissions here everything is perfect spins smoothly a couple things to note you want the double pin with the o-ring gasket right there in there that is for oil so if that's missing um you're just gonna have oil not pumping through the top of the engine and then double pin right there double pin right there and then this reverse um gear right here that needs to seat flush with the gear right there so there's like a certain position it has to be in down there it kind of matches up with the tip of the shaft right there to the case so that'll sit flush like that and then um we want the drum to have the dot right there so that you can put the reverse knob into there so we can tighten the bolt without wrecking the transmission so everything is in place you can see all the shift forks are in place so it should shift smoothly and we are ready to get gasket material along the case i have to clean this up with brake cleaner so there's no oil on the case anywhere same with this side so let's put gasket material on both sides and then mesh this thing together all right also cleaned up the oil filter right here that sits right in here and then i lubed everything up with oil all right let's see if we can get these case halves together so you can see cases there together let's get this thing flipped over and get some bolts going on this thing all right we got the whole bottom end basically together i'm just stacking some of these clutch plates right now but as you can see everything spins freely so right now i'm just oiling the clutch plates and then putting them back together we're just using the ones we had on there because they still look good putting a light amount of oil on them just so that they don't stick too much they've been sitting out for a little bit i thought they might be a little bit dry got the pressure plate so here's a pole piece right here for the clutch that goes down in and then out [Music] it's on there like that now we can just get the springs on there [Music] we're gonna try to get the clutch cover on here next we're pointing this thing this way towards the back of the engine [Music] c all right and we know the cover is correct because we've got that notch lined up with that notch right there so clutch should work great all right on to the other side all right we went ahead and get the timing chain on timing chain guide and then the reverse lever right here with the spring now i'm going to get the flywheel on now the woodruff key can go in so slippery i had to spin the one-way bearing backwards to get that to slide on and we'll torque that down all right so the whole engine is basically put back together we just have to get the gasket for right here um i have to order that up still i thought it had one delivered but i guess i can't find it anywhere so i don't know where that gasket went i'll have to look and see if it got delivered or not but gotta get that gasket um cover back on i think the cover is over here yeah the cover is still right there and then we have to do the top end i don't know if you can have the head installed before you put it in the quad but i could probably do the cylinder in the piston that will make things easy but yeah not too much more to go tomorrow we'll tackle the rest of it and do the first start first ride stay tuned so it looks like the gasket goes this way this end is going to go towards the carburetor side and then the little dot is going to be up there in that corner it's important you have that correct and i cleaned off the surface really well i'm gonna get the other pin in right there all right we're gonna quick check the ring gap um just to make sure it's within spec and this is the first ring it's at 15 thou so that's good all right second ring gap is that 17 thou it's just a little bit bigger for the cylinder i'm just going to clean it up a bit um i'm just going to use some wd-40 and a sky spray pad [Music] and then we'll just scrub this just to take off that first layer foreign still nice and cleaned up you can see finished product there looks really good all right we've got the dot pointing towards the exhaust side just slide that pin in so the piston is on make sure your ring orientation is um like 180 apart so top ring gap should be here second ring gap should be here and then your oil rings you want to stagger the gaps as well so no oil can leak through we're going to get the cylinder oiled up here just going to put a little oil on the inside of the cylinder to lube it up spread that around there i get the timing chain through here all right we got the bolts in there's four up there and two on the sides right here we're going to torque these to 11 foot pounds going in the crisscross pattern and then the 36 foot pounds after that so we're at 11 right now all right bumper up 36. head gasket here can only go on one way all right we've got the head on all right torque spec for the uh the head bolts 25 foot-pounds crisscross pattern to time this thing you turn to top dead center there's a little notch right there you can see the lines up with the notch right there that's lined up on the flywheel the piston should be at the top of the cylinder double check to make sure it is it is in fact so you go up here and you want to put the sprocket where this notch lines up with that notch right there so as you can see everything lines up perfectly timing is spot on right there not just perfect down here so our timing is spot on now we're going to uh get the tensioner in and that timing will be set all right valve specs for these um for the intake are 0.1 millimeters you can see those are perfect already adjusted them and these over here 0.18 millimeters so those are perfect as well so everything is good to go we can put all the caps back on and then get this installed into the quad all right engine is complete ready to go back into the quad all right this sucker's gonna be really heavy looks like everything it's hard to work around the nerf bars i don't have a good place to stand but we'll get in there all right she's in the frame in the correct position we got the spring arm bolt in where you can get the other engine mounts um in and then we'll start hooking up everything all right we got this thing back together all the plastics are on it nice and tight [Music] grab bar i tighten down got the pipe on i want to paint the pipe still and sand that down but i want to see if this thing starts first we're going to clean up the plastics next get out these stickers and then try to get this mole off of here you can see it's pretty rough unfortunately the piece right here is missing and broken you can see how broken that is right there is broken and then it's missing the piece for the gas tank which really sucks that's gonna be really hard to find for a special edition hopefully they have one just in black i can order up but i'll have to message the guy and see if he still has that piece because he said all the plastics were there for it so um but you know it's missing that one but overall it doesn't look too bad the engine is the best part of it so far so we're gonna get this cleaned up and then we'll do the first start stay tuned should be uh pretty interesting hopefully it runs because that was a ton of work we'll get the 09 sticker off first [Applause] so so let's see how that turned out here that's not horrible we'll do another pass but that turned out pretty good it'll clean up we're gonna go around the whole quad and do that and then we'll come back and see the finished product all right just got done with the plastics i think they turned out pretty good i think as good as i could get them so and i did the seat as well so yeah that looks pretty good not perfect but better than it was all right we've got to get the oil filter in there some oil in it some cooling in it and then we'll do the first start attempt since uh being rebuilt hopefully it shifts through the gears too wouldn't that suck if it didn't all right we got a brand new oil filter for it this is the only brand i had in the kind i needed there's a little o-ring in there that sits right here don't forget to put that in there so i think it can only go in one way here i don't think you can go in that way let's see yeah it's this guy going this way like that gonna fit all right all right so the raptor 700's take about two quarts of oil we're going to open the oil cap right here on the engine there should be an o-ring underneath there as well just make sure that that's on there sure enough it is we're gonna put one quart in the engine and then one quart in the actual oil canister right there so we'll do this one first get the engine all lubed up here we're using the lucas oil 10w40 formulated for wet clutches dump that guy in hopefully we don't have any leaks going on all right we're at the left side of the quad here take the dipstick out same thing we're just gonna add a court all right radiator cap is right there fill this up next and we're going to leave the cap off for the first start just so that we can get all the air out of it all right let's get the battery hooked up and attempt to start this thing all right here we go moment of truth hopefully my battery pack can turn this thing over smoking pretty good so that's all wd-40 burning off right there but i'm hoping after we run this thing for a while um i won't smoke but it could be the valve seals that are leaking still um because it didn't change those out let's uh check and see if the oil level went down and we'll see um if that oil circulating before we we run anymore here just going to crack that bolt right there so if oil pours out that's a good sign yup you can see oil pouring out awesome so most likely it's getting pumped through all right let's start this thing up again let it run for a bit uh still smoking a little bit there might be uh oil in the pipe though and water from going down in there running pretty good though no leaking at all yet so so [Music] so [Music] [Music] okay all right looks like it stops smoking so that's good sounds pretty good no weird sounds in the top end here question is does it move you can see how rusty the pipe is take a wire wheel just kind of clean up that rust it's really heavy rust see if we can clean her up a little bit you can see it's kind of coming back all right time to paint the pipe using the flame proof eht paint this stuff is like the best for painting pipes [Applause] a matte black it'll dry so it matches the factory paint perfectly on these [Applause] all right all dry you can see it kind of turned matte black just like the factory paint all right pipe is on looking pretty good no more rust on it and then i hit all the grease fittings on the arms and then back here there's one so let's uh take her for a little test drive and see if she goes into gear and then we'll see if reverse works as well [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right so that's uh that's a huge win um reverse works first works i don't know if second third fourth and fifth work but i'm sure they do um they do shift up into gear i'm just not sure if it moves into those gears but i'm i'm pretty sure it does um i rebuilt this thing and took my time with it to make sure everything was perfect so i'm sure it'll be fine but i'm pretty happy with it um all that work paid off and uh it's running perfect i mean it sounds really good no rattling in the top end no leaking super smooth going into gear so i would call that a win so next video we're gonna take this thing for the first ride stay tuned for that i couldn't fit it into this video it's just getting way too long next video we'll dedicate it to the first ride on this thing and it will be my first time riding a yamaha raptor 700 so stay tuned for that video should be pretty fun and uh hopefully you guys enjoyed the video stay tuned for next one and until next time [Music]
