[Music] welcome to the wind and the word i'm so glad that you have joined us today and we're very excited to have pastor joel ershen with us pastor of tree of life church in cincinnati ohio pastor ursian we're so glad that you have joined us today on this uh little program that we have started again that we think will be a blessing that we're calling the wind and the word you know the bible talks about how we're to worship him in spirit and in truth and certainly the wind in the word of god represents the spirit of god and then of course the word of god so first of all i want to just say thank you so much for joining us and uh how are you guys doing up there in cincinnati we're doing quite well thank you and it's an honor to be a part of the wind and the word of broadcast today and uh i'm excited about what the lord is doing i know these are challenging times they're challenging here i know they're challenging everywhere but god is on the throne and he's doing great things in our midst so we're doing well and it's it's an honor to be here with you today you know pastor erskine we were we were just talking a little bit uh before we started filming about how we were doing this about a year ago and um how much fun we had just being able to connect by um zoom and by all of this technology we have to to be able to just communicate and minister to each other and then to to just be able to uh have an audience you know that we could connect with a lot of people were homebound and we thought we were going to be through that and here we we find ourselves sort of back in that again with this delta variant and all that's going on in our world and our culture what are you feeling spiritually about the season that we're in well it's a unique season for sure and i do remember those days you're describing of course we we all do and we have some um maybe some uh trepidation about uh what that was and what what is to come but uh we saw god move last year and i want to say particularly to you pastor myers and east wind just amazing work you all did last year i mean while everybody was scrambling trying to figure out exactly how to address this and how to proceed you really put out such great material revival content educational content encouraging content that bless both east wind and the body of christ at large and so i appreciate that so much and i know we're in the middle of this new wave of the delta variant so it's affecting different regions of the country in the world in unique ways right now but i just feel like this is our our red sea moment this is our walls of jericho moment this is this is the time for this generation to face whatever challenges may come our way and say to god be the glory the lord is my light and my salvation we're going to go forward and do what god has called us to do we're going to step into this challenge not be afraid of it and i'm seeing that i'm seeing that i know that we're having to make adjustments and people are needing to do what they need to do to face this and whatever that turns out to be uh you know is of course understandable but but at the same time i see great faith and great courage within the body of christ to meet this challenge and face it head-on yeah absolutely you know i was thinking there's a scripture in acts that talks about how that the lord chose the period of time when the children of israel were in captivity in egypt he chose that environment in that season to fulfill his promise to abraham that he would make him the father of many nations and that his seed would be as the sand of the sea and the stars of the sky and it's interesting that the lord uh seems to work in an adverse environment and and sometimes i think we get caught up in the world that we're in and and the uh all the challenges of it and the environment that we're in that's seemingly hostile to the gospel and yet i think at least from the precedent in scripture that that's the exact season that god thrives to work in because we have to recognize that it's him that's doing the work it's not us and it's not anything in our culture but yet it's almost like god rolls up his sleeves and really begins to make his power known in a time whenever there's crisis on the earth is that what you guys have found oh absolutely and and you're so right about the scriptures bearing that out uh you know as you were speaking the scriptures came to my mind uh where jesus told his disciples and and at the sermon on the mount he said blessed are you when men shall revile you when they shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for my name's sake they shall deliver you up to councils and he said now when they do this rejoice and and you're not expecting him to say that he says rejoice rejoice for so did they to the prophets that were before you and great is your reward in heaven so you have two reasons to rejoice whenever you face these hardships and even the hardships like you said of hostility toward the gospel you have the reason to rejoice in the sense that you're in good company every prophet apostle the lord himself was persecuted uh for the gospel's sake and not only do you have that reason to rejoice but you have the reason to rejoice that great is your reward in heaven and so so we every time that you encounter that stiff opposition on earth you do it for for heaven's sake you do it for the kingdom's sake and i think too of the scripture in acts where after they were beaten and commanded not to teach or preach again in the name of the lord the bible says that they again they rejoiced that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name and they proceeded to preach and teach in the name of the lord and so you know we just really do have to realize that this is kingdom business and we're up against a stiff challenge right now something that's very difficult has been for the last year and a half but god is taking us through it and he will see us through it and and we must be like those early apostles and believers that we rejoice counted all joy whenever we fall into diverse temptations we counted all joy and we do it for the glory of god you know you're right pastor orson i was thinking about the scripture that we read about in luke chapter 21 where it talks about the season that we would come upon when nations were perplexed and when men's hearts would fail them for fear and he says when these things come to pass look up and lift up your head for your redemption draweth diet and when i was thinking about that i thought that is really a description of the season that we're in now nations are perplexed uh men's hearts are failing them for fear you have people that are fearful of the virus and you have others that are fearful of the vaccination but but fear is rampant over all of the earth and yet the lord says that those are signs of the time and when you see these things come to pass then to lift up your head for your redemption draweth nigh and uh i you know i think it's interesting to your point what you were saying earlier that this is really a season that god has chosen to do a mighty work but the challenge is how do we get that perspective and sort of move beyond the the natural voices and messages that we hear through the media every day that could really put even the body of christ in a sort of a posture of despair yeah you know when you're talking about that great work that god is doing in the middle of all of this i think again of daniel the bible the bible speaks of daniel and the three hebrew children being in that babylonian captivity and uh the scripture says that the people who know their god are strong and do exploits and we really we really were shall i say uh spoiled we kind of took for granted so many liberties and so many uh opportunities and now those things we still have them but they're challenged right now and i think it's a wake-up call to us to recognize that these are this is where we're living and it's not unlike what the people of god through the centuries have faced and and this is the moment for us to rise in this generation to face those challenges and as far as the messaging from the world we really have to be mindful that our messaging comes from god and it comes from the word of god and and you know the paul that's one things he dealt with telling them to avoid profane babblings avoid vain babblings uh avoid foolish talk um he even said whatsoever things are pure and true and of good report and honest there be any virtue if there be any praise think on these things the scripture says blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly nor standeth in the way of sinners but nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful but his delight is in the law of the lord and in his law doth he meditate day and night so that you know that's meditation day and night that's thinking about it through the day that's reading the word absorbing the word tuning into a broadcast like this and letting your your soul be enriched by hearing the word and then going to to sleep thinking those same thoughts so that you you're filling your mind with the truth of god let god be true and every man a liar and we have to when we face challenges we have to do so with the perspective that god would give us you know when joshua was about to go to the walls of jericho he went out alone and met this being that was an angel of the lord who was the captain of the lord of hosts and joshua was so fearful of what he was looking at it was such a powerful being he said are you with us or are you with them and that's a good thing to know you want to you want him to be on our side but what he received in return in response was i am the captain of the lord's host so the question isn't which side is the lord on the question is who is on the lord's side right and and that's where we want to be we want to be on the lord's side and the the media and the messaging that comes from all sides of these equations we're looking at today they will try to divide us into camps that serve their pleasure and serve their purpose but if we'll be on the lord's side if god be for us who can be against us if we'll if we'll believe the report of the lord and be on the lord's side then he's going to take us through these these challenging times yeah absolutely you know a few years ago as pastor we started talking a little bit about um our vision and our desire to have a conference for uh millennials and young ministers and you and i you know talked about what that would look like and we had no idea we would be launching this during an outbreak of a pandemic um across the world and uh so when it came time to do this there was there was some concern and you know we talked about this we prayed about it and uh we went ahead and went forward with it and what was amazing is how god just showed up in such a powerful way last year when we had our our first wins conference and it was almost like the wind of god just blew through that place we never had any reports of anyone getting sick getting the virus but the power of god was so strong it reminded us that god is greater than the climate that we're in and what do you see going forward with this conference we're getting ready to have a this wins conference again the week of october the 21st and uh what do you feel in your spirit about how uh this conference can be beneficial to people that may be thinking about attending well you know last year's conference wow you talk about when do you talk about a breath of fresh air it came on the heels of a very long season of spring and summer where people were faced with some of the most unusual circumstances they had ever faced everything seemed just it seemed like an alternate reality to people all through spring and summer and all the camps were shut down and all of the conventions were shut down and when wins came around i think it was the first conference for most of the people that were there it was probably the first conference they had attended since the shutdown and i mean there couldn't have been a more aptly named conference it was a refreshing wind from heaven that swept across that place it was such a joy to be there such a joy to be there and it's going to be that way this year the preaching the singing the worship the fellowship the encouraging of one another i i just i came away saying that this conference was uniquely ordered of the lord tailored to this time to this generation to minister a refreshing wind and i loved it because there was a great emphasis on the word of god there was a great emphasis on the operation of the holy ghost the gifts of the holy ghost there was a tremendous emphasis on fellowship and and it set such a beautiful precedent for how the conference will continue uh as we go forward and this year i mean i look at the lineup that you have in place for wins conference and it's dynamite i'm so blessed to be part of it and i can't wait to be there and we've got a crew coming from our church to wins conference because it's just going to be it's going to be on fire and i believe again it's coming at an opportune time where people are in need people need a voice from heaven they need a touch from god and i'm so thankful for the boldness and the wisdom that has been employed and applied in bringing wins conference to palm bay florida it's going to be a blessing and i can't wait to be right in the middle of it enjoying every service uh we're so excited and of course your ministry is such a blessing pastor ursian to so many an anointed message that you preached last year and i know you're going to be preaching again this year and we the panel discussions and everything but you know when we were originally talking about the winds conference we we talked about naming it winds because of the the prophetic winds that took place when the lord took ezekiel down there to that that valley of dry bones and and you know we we called it a rise because we we felt like you know this was a time when god's army that the church was sort of arising as you mentioned out of this the shutdown and and and the tough months that we had prior to that and this year our theme is reconnect because you know what's interesting when you when you see the the the way that the lord illustrated through ezekiel and this basically this cemetery as it were and uh he he told him to prophesy to the wind he said really to prophesy to the wind which we see as the spirit of god moving it was something that happened secondary what happened first was that these bones came together and it seems like we're at this point right now where where god's wanting to bring us together and then when we come together there's all of these biblical precedent about how if two or three are gathered together and if if two or three can agree together they can ask anything in his name and it shall be done yes and it seems like the season we're in when we can come together in unity that then the prophetic winds of god blows and it gives us that uh confirmation in the spirit that that god is is bringing us to a place of unity and into a place of anointing uh for these end times that we're in and uh i think that that's kind of where the lord is taking us but i'm curious as to what your take is on that when when the the body comes together first and the bones connect to the bones and then he said prophesied of the wind and the wind blew and life came to them after there was that reconnection absolutely and and i think one thing we have not had up to this point is we we've been pretty self-sufficient in our corners you know we've we've all been doing our thing we love one another we fellowship with one another and we we want to be a blessing to each other but we've managed to to kind of create our our uh place and we we kind of see ourselves as being self-sufficient the reality is we need each other as the body of christ and so the apostle paul said can the eyes say to the ear i have no need of thee can the foot say to the hand i have no need of thee just because i have a different function in the body doesn't mean that i don't need the other members of the body to to be a part of this functioning body of christ and i think what this season has done is it is forced us into a position of needing one another it's caused us to realize hey hey we're stronger when we're together we're stronger when we are joined linked arm and arm and we we need one another we need to support one another we need to be in fellowship with one another to a deeper degree maybe than we have been uh in years gone by and i think that when when this is all said and done there's there's to be great positives to come from this because you're going to see more collaboration you're going to see more united fronts in the apostolic movement you're going to see more people who are setting aside maybe grudges that they perhaps have held against others for years and there's going to be great forgiveness a great revival of forgiveness and unity to occur and and we're going to accomplish what the lord has always intended for us to accomplish and i think that what we've been through lends itself to that to a great degree because it it makes you realize what's important and it makes you realize it real quick when you when you need one another and before long you you were united because at one time you were united because you uh it was a good thing to do but god will create a situation where you're united because you you need to be united yeah yeah absolutely i i recently was watching the podcast with you and uh your brother nathaniel and you guys were talking about preaching and it was so rich and i i would certainly recommend it to anyone that just enjoys uh understanding and you know being positively affected by really anointed preaching and what that is and how it works and you guys did such a masterful job and just dissecting it and one of the things that uh i remember that your brother nathanael was saying was that how that the the word is logos and rhema and he said you know logos is like the structure and rhema is like that anointing it's like that that wind as it were the the breath of god and you know it's funny i i as you were talking i was thinking about how i wonder if that same parallel could be made with the body of christ the the the bride of christ there's the logos there's the structure there's what we can do when we come together but then there's that rhema there's that essence of god and his presence the shekinah glory is how you know we used to describe when when the spirit of god would move you know in the old testament but there's that element of god's presence that no one can deny it had to be god and it seems like that comes with that special touch whenever god's people do what we can do and that is to be that structure to be that body well you see that when he formed man of the dust of the ground that's that structure then he breathes into his nostrils the breath of life and that's that that's that wind that's the word and the wind you see it in the day of pentecost they were all with one accord in one place that's that structure then there came from having a mighty rushing wind sound of a mighty rushing wind and you see it in ezekiel where you described earlier about the valley of dry bones the bones came to each other and then he said prophesy to the wind you know the lord showed me something recently too as ezekiel was speaking that the lord said can these bones live ezekiel said thou knowest and lord said prophesied to these bones that's the word that's the declaration of the word that's the power of the word and then he said prophesy to the wind and and the lord just kind of showed me that's prayer prophesying to the wind is what we're doing when we're praying we're praying to god but there's a point at which supplication gives way to declaration and and we're lifting our voice and we're speaking things that are not as though they were and and there's this declaration of life and so there's a prophecy prophecy to the bones and then there's a prophecy to the wind and that's the combination of word and prayer which is what the apostles said they must commit themselves to we must remain committed to the ministry of the word and of prayer in other words we must remain committed to prophesying to the bones and to the wind that's how the body is going to function when there's adequate word and prayer being administered within the body of christ and you know my brother and i we love talking about preaching and talking about the scriptures and we enjoyed last year being able to talk with you as well pastor myers and the interview that we did during the shutdown season and there's something special about it we we came along at about the same time i started preaching young and and he started preaching young and so we we kind of came along at the same time and uh and then we tag team preached uh together and then uh we still enjoy preaching together and we'll call each other once once a week or so and we'll just spend an hour and a half two hours just talking scripture and and it's always enjoyable to do that there's something powerful about the word yeah there really is and i i remember uh when you guys were talking about preaching and and you were talking about how you kind of started your ministry and your first revival in west virginia i got to thinking about that because i thought back to when you were around 16 years old and i i met you i think he was up in wisconsin invited you to come in and preach in palm bay and uh you you came and preached your first revival i think you were only maybe 16 or 17 years old but you know from from that time till now it's been uh it's been just such a joy to see uh how god has used you and your ministry and and how the lord just gave us this great friendship and and our families and our kids and we've we've vacationed together you know one of the great things that i love about our friendship is that when we're together uh we may be you know in chicago at christmas time but when i'm with you there's always this overflow of of the word of god and you know we'll start sharing about you know things that we've seen in scripture and it seems like i get several sermons just hanging out with you so it's beneficial for us to hang out at least for me it is you know but yeah you know one of the things i thought that was interesting was you know when we were talking a little bit about um you know the wins conference and how we wanted to have an atmosphere of the anointing of god you said you know it's important to have that doctrinal balance with the prophetic wind of god and i wonder if you could talk about that for just a second and how the doctrine the truth of god's word serves as a foundation for the anointing of god's word that's a great that's a great observation and and there is something about the identity of god that really sets the stage for everything it sets the foundation for everything else he said to moses you tell them i am hath sent you and that understanding of him being the i am was so necessary to what moses was going to do in bringing the children of israel out of egypt and it really emboldened moses it him understanding who god was took away the insecurity of who he felt he was you know there was something that moses kept saying to god when god would tell him all that he was going to do there in speaking to pharaoh moses would say who am i who am i said that a couple of times who am i and i think that's an interesting question because god's response to it was always i am i am so the the response to our insecurity is always his identity we have to stop worrying about where we may be inadequate and just start looking at the sovereignty the power and that the glory the omnipotence of god and in genesis chapter 1 you know the scripture says god said let there be light spirit of god moved upon the face of the waters and god said let there be light that word let there be is the word i am it's the same word that he used when he told moses who was sending him into egypt it's the word i am to exist the self-existent one and so when god said let there be light what brought light to the earth was his identity i i am light and then the whole world was illuminated the whole world is not illuminated by the sun the moon and the stars those were created on the fourth day there was light before there were there was a sun or a moon or stars it's the light that shines above the brightness of the sun as it did as saul was riding down the road to damascus it's not the brightness of the sun it's above the brightness of the sun and that that's that's that doctrinal truth the identity of who god is if people can really understand who god is uh as best as we can through the word the revelation of the word it really gives people the wherewithal to let him move in their life it puts everything in perspective if they know who god is it begins to help them know who they are it helps them to know who they're who they're not they're not what the devil has said they are not who the accuser has said they are because the more they understand about who he is uh the more they'll understand who they are and the more his spirit will have opportunity to truly perfect and and perform the work needed in their lives you know pastor ershan um you you mentioned that last year when you were at wynn's conference you you determined then that you were going to bring some of your young ministers and staff back this year and i thought you know it's interesting whenever we as pastors look at a lot of different conferences we can attend but we try to target you know what's going to be beneficial to our church what's going to equip our staff our young ministers why is it that you think bringing your staff young ministers into that kind of atmosphere really equips them for what they need in this season that we're in right now well the father seeketh those who worship him in spirit and in truth and at winds that's what you have you have that balance of spirit and truth and so you have a a demonstrate a demonstrative move of the spirit and then you have a articulation of the word and then you have panel discussions that break it down even further and then you have this fellowship that that just kind of helps the seed to find good soil to me that's the environment that i want my ministry team in i want them in that environment because that's the kind of environment we want to duplicate in our local church that's the environment we want to bring to our community is the environment of spirit and truth and so i i want them to hear the word compounded over a period of days and i want them to feel the spirit move and operate in that move of the spirit compounded over the period of a few days and i want them to network and get to know the members of their generation that are of the same mind and that are of the same goal because as i mentioned earlier we need one another and they need they need access to these various ones who are just like them but in different regions of the nation i want them rubbing shoulders with people who are of a light precious faith like-minded in mission and and to begin to gain those experiences and those relationships and you you just mentioned the relationship that you and i share and that heidi and amy and our kids we all share that relationship and that's been building for many many years 25 years plus and i want that for i want that for the ministers of my team i want them to begin building those relationships that serve as a an apparatus where with they can join forces to do something great for god and that's what's offered at the wynns conference that type of a friendship those types of relationships wow that is so good pastor hershey and it's so true well you have been listening to pastor joel erschen as we've been talking about the upcoming wins conference in palm bay florida the week of october the 21st you can register online for that at winsconference.com and i know you'll be blessed i hope you can come and join us we're going to have a great time we're going to have great uh singing and worship and preaching and it's just going to be a great time of discussion and fellowshipping together and i hope that you can come and join us i know you'll be blessed well until we meet again we pray that god will go with you and bless you and we'll look forward to seeing you soon god bless [Music] you
