The Wacky World of Rare Xboxes

this week i'm talking about the og xbox big enough to crush a small child and strong enough to shed no tears during the process just a quick disclaimer almost all the information comes from console variations.com and ebay and if i miss something or get stuff wrong please let me know and everybody else know in the comments okay first off we got the base xbox which is well it's an xbox the launch model in the us included the duke controller the s controller was developed for the japanese market in australian release a limited edition ultimate entertainment pack also included a special halo jewel on the controller so it's not really a full variant but whatever this is arguably the most popular xbox variant the crystal edition it's just a clear xbox slightly transparent less than fully opaque up to a million of these were produced making them not that rare you could find these in the us canada europe and australia and while some locations they were harder to come by they're still within the realm of attainability four out of five as far as common console variants go this one looks pretty great there's also a premium crystal model that was exclusive to australia it has a limited edition jewel with less than 10 000 produced so that one's actually quite a bit rare sadly most xboxes listed as limited edition and crystal are not of this variety so i can't easily find a price next up is the halo special edition xbox it's green very green it's also clear that's pretty neat you got the words halo special edition written right there on the front this was a us release came bundled with halo 1 and had a halo jewel on the controller 200 000 were produced making it kind of special honestly i'd give this a 3.5 out of 5. now there is another transparent green xbox without the halo branding the first year anniversary edition next is the skeleton xbox a japanese exclusive it's black but it's clear apparently 50 000 were made but of those just 10 000 were sold goes to show how bad the xbox really was selling in japan it came with a key to noting which number it was in the edition i tend to see these going for about three to four hundred used and upwards of 700 new i'd give it a 3.5 out of 5 just because it's neat that there's a clear black xbox but that's the only thing that's going for it now i know there's a fan favorite xbox variant out there and many of you likely expect me to talk about it that being the mountain dew xbox now this was a reward for buying a bunch of mountain dew and earning due bucks or something and you could buy this special edition for only a hundred dollars five thousand were made and there was also a hulk pepsi console which was very similar but only had about 36 produced and was available as a lottery prize in uk based movie theaters now these are just peak 2000s bright green not clear which is cool but see these weren't official releases by microsoft rather licensed by the company to another in this case pepsi this is a 5 out of 5. i really don't think i could give it a lower score this is the embodiment of not only the early 2000s but hopefully the 21st century for right now i really don't want to set the precedent of covering all of licensed consoles and i want to stick with official releases because most licensed boxes especially for the xbox are hand painted and given away in contests some like this halo 2 and fable console may be official but it's hard to determine in the future i'll likely cover all of these licensed or maybe even unlicensed but if i tried it today this video would be way too long next we start getting into the more elusive boxes the kasumi chan edition japanese exclusive about 5000 produced it's got a clear blue chassis silver jewel in dead or alive ultimate branding on the top controller is also clear blue with the silver jewel it came with a copy of the game xbox live starter kit and a dvd playback kit so it was pretty full featured oh and it also comes with the five foot long kosumi body pillow oh oh oh no there's quite a few listed on ebay for 500 to 800 and upwards of 1700 but none have sold so i don't know the ice blue a canadian release with only 5 000 produced it's identical to the kosumi channel be it with no branding it came bundled with halo 2 and a halo 2 headset another clear blue xbox exists in the form of the japanese exclusive halo 2 limited edition it's much like the others but it has a black jewel instead of silver both on the controller and console which is interesting somewhere between 5 000 and 10 000 were produced but it's hard for me at least to find pricing i can't find any of these on ebay the kasumi chan gets a 3.5 out of 5 because i don't love individual games branded on the box unless it's like halo or mario or gravity rush the canadian ice blue though i give that a a 4.5 out of 5. i i just i love it everything about it mostly the colors because i guess that's the only thing about it the japanese xbox blue gets a 4 out of 5 just because it has the standard xbox jewel and it's a little bit less special in that sense so this one is weird it's a green clear xbox which we've seen before but it has a limited edition hong kong 2004 written on the front that's right this was a hong kong exclusive release with less than 5 000 produced if you signed up for an 18 month contract with a broadband provider you had a chance to receive this box for this honk kong xbox i'll give it a 3.5 out of 5. maybe if it was a different color scheme it would earn higher and while that hong kong decal is cool it's not enough to cover up the fact this is just the halo green edition the pure white xbox not clear just white it was made for the second anniversary of xbox but also released separately in japan with less than 5 000 made i can't find any recent prices for the pure white xbox and well that makes sense when you start getting into super rare territory the pricing is fairly arbitrary either way it looks amazing and i'll give it a 4 out of 5. we have the panzer dragoon orta xbox this is a white not clear box with interestingly a black jewel it also has some interesting decals with the panzer dragoon branding a japanese exclusive you could apparently win this by pre-ordering the game through sega direct and it came with the game a soundtrack and a necklace i give it a 4 out of 5. and the reason for that is well if you haven't figured it out yet these scores mean absolutely nothing like i've already changed my mind about half of these now the rarest model that was ever released to the public is this the hello kitty mission rescue bundle just just look at it wow 550 were made reportedly this was sold through an unknown retail shop in singapore given away when customers bought a 5 000 tv it's a standard clear xbox but the x on top has well this it's priceless five out of five we have the ea xbox live thank you xbox this was given out to ea employees it has a white chassis an xbox live jewel and ea special edition written on the front now that might seem arbitrary and weird but it makes sense when you consider that this was given to ea employees by microsoft themselves 110 were made and frankly beyond the console variations listing i can't find anything about this three out of five out of five here we have the launch team xbox this was given away to xbox team members in microsoft higher ups it appears to have been signed by bill gates with special edition written on the front and a personalized message on the jewel the clear green seems to have been a favorite for microsoft in these console variations and having that with the custom xbox launch team jewel the signing the limited number well this is a solid 4. i'd give it a 5 if it were say the mountain dew xbox color but you know reportedly less than 5 000 were made probably way less and they go for around 900 to a thousand dollars at least recently on ebay 4.5 out of 5. next is the conquer xbox hand-painted given away during a conquer tournament in sydney reportedly this was made by microsoft themselves and possibly only one exists i'm not gonna rate this because it's just a hand-painted xbox it'd feel like i'm rating the arts so nah just enjoy it now this one on the other hand this is probably the worst console variation i've ever seen it's the midwest executive briefing console given away to microsoft employees during what i assume is a midwest executive briefing it's just an xbox with a tag on it one out of five next is a real treat it's the halo xbox hand-painted 10 of these were made and given away in europe to celebrate the release of halo 1. yeah i bet that goes for quite a bit we also have the msn console which is a clear xbox given away in norway now it's kind of hard to see but yeah this is special because it has the msm branding on the front three are known to exist and nothing else seems to be known about them 4.5 one of the rarest xboxes is just orange just the clear orange xbox five are known to exist some of them have the halo branding on front and some do not metal jesus rocks definitely broke the story here at least to a lot of people with a collector named emilio finding this at a yard sale in seattle reportedly it was made to test different shades of the xbox chassis before somebody took it home and sold it eventually some have valued this at around fifteen thousand dollars but i don't know i mean there's so few can't really put a price on on that five out of five now this one always sticks in my head as one of the coolest console variations ever made it's a one-off given to ed freeze of microsoft freeze was integral to getting xbox the support it needed from microsoft higher ups it has a specialized jewel with ad-free special edition listed and a personalized message gotta give it a 5 out of 5. finally while i don't cover prototype consoles in this series and maybe i will have a future series about all that i still want to cover the stuff that the general public has already seen just to avoid confusion i think nothing exemplifies this more than well the best of the xboxes the x the xbox what i don't know i don't know what you want to call it it's a big x made out of pure aluminum the jewel glows green light it's heavy it's big and located now in the microsoft visitor center producing it cost eighteen thousand dollars but value-wise it's priceless these were demo units used to show off the xbox for the first time at gdc 2000. since the xbox development team was on a very tight schedule several of these were produced and most of them failed so i guess i'm giving it a 10. it's a 10 out of 5.
