i don't like long introductions in youtube videos wasting minutes explaining stuff we already know for the sake of getting to the point sure it might be essential to grab the viewer's attention and keep them hooked but it's just a waste of time you've already read the title you saw the expertly crafted thumbnail you know what this video is about i'm gonna talk about different colored ps2s that's it the ps2 had quite a few variants but it also had a few distinct models the fat ps2 the slim ps2 the super slim ps2 the fat ps2 was the launch model released in 2000 it's notable for being fat discs were front loaded it had this expansion bay that allowed for hard drive support and internet connectivity the slim model was released in 2004 it was lighter smaller quieter and it didn't break down as much it has a top loader and removed that expansion bay so you couldn't use a hard drive but it had ethernet support however this meant a few titles were unplayable on this box but most games that required the hard drive were japanese exclusive in north america it means final fantasy xi is unplayable don't fret though the servers were shut down so none of that really matters the super slim released in 2007 after the ps3 was released it kind of looks like a weird ps4 with the glossy and matte two-tone finish also the back and power system is completely changed now on to the fun part the variations of all these boxes as always a lot of this information comes from consolevariations.com also footage credits are in the description so let's go first off the basic launch black what do you want me to say it's probably the most common variant of any console it's just a standard ps2 fat slim super slim it's all matte black generally these go for 100 to 150 bucks used and of course cheaper ones exist and more expensive ones exist it's just a wide range of ps2 prices usually they'll be 500 to a thousand dollars new it just depends on whoever buys them i guess now in terms of score the reviewing system i've had so far i know it's terrible but i want to improve it ever so slightly i'll give the basic model of any console a 2 and any variants better or worse than that we'll get the score as such our first variant is the satin silver colors these released in north america japan and europe for both fat and slim models and it's not rare at all millions were produced so they don't go for too much on ebay about the same price as a standard ps2 you know brand new pretty much all ps2s seem to go for the same general price now in good condition they can actually be quite shiny so i'm giving this a solid three out of five it would get a better score but this thing is quite common next up is ceramic white ooh ah the fat model is exclusive to asia but the slim model is available in the united states and canada with the sing-star bundle the asian models are quite a bit rare with at most 200 000 produced in total but the north american release had about a million or so these go for about the same price as the others i don't know if that's interesting but i gotta say it so i did i'll give it a 3.5 out of 5. we have the zen black console which was japanese exclusive it's clear and black it looks like a normal ps2 but worse i guess there were up to a million units produced so it's not too rare and most units hover around 100 to 200 bucks maybe a bit less i'll give this uh i don't know i'm gonna give it a 1.75 out of 5. i can't decide whether i like this thing more or less than the basic one but we got to try out the system somehow right pink this console is pink it released in japan and europe and asia i mean australia only as the slim model though the japanese version had up to a million produced the pal version was less common at around 60 000. no american release i'll give this a four out of five three out of five two out of five three point two out of five ocean blue this is your peak 2000's nostalgia ps2 blue clear clear blue japanese exclusive up to a hundred thousand produced but i'm gonna give it a four out of five because it's just so blue red cinnabar red to be precise these were japanese exclusives as well only available with the super slim model up to a hundred thousand were made and pricing wise they do go for a bit more than the average ps2 i'll give it up 3.99 out of five midnight blue japanese exclusive again up to a hundred thousand produced it's clear in blue but dark clear and blue not like the ocean blue goes for 150 to 200 bucks slightly more than the average ps2 but yeah it's just fine and that inexplicable quality of just fine earns this a solid 4 or 3.5 or just pick one pick your own score for this one well it's gold a golden ps2 but not really gold it comes bundled with a gundam game japanese exclusive what a surprise and it's fat up to a hundred thousand produced and they actually go for quite a bit more than the average ps2 200 to 400 bucks strange since it's not that rare but it's gold so that's cool i think i'll give it a 3.555 out of 5. this is toy blue which is an appropriate name since it was a toys r us exclusive it's a matte lighterish blue not see-through only 5 000 were made only available in fat pricing is hard to find for some of these rarer ps2s but i imagine each of these rare variants could fetch over the 500 mark i think it looks good or bad 1.9.1 out of four now some models may or may not be duplicate colors of other models but marketed differently such is the case for a feel a heart bundle which included this white console that appears identical to ceramic whites and it was japanese exclusive but it did come with this fancy box and you know that's something i do appreciate about a lot of these special editions they have genuinely great box designs now here's a special variant or several of them to celebrate 50 million ps2 sold sony released several special edition consoles these include aqua blue metallic silver and sakura pink aqua blue looks similar to toy blue but has a more glossy finish upwards of 5 000 were produced and released in both japan and europe metallic silver seems very close to satin silver but maybe it's more shiny than satin silver i'm not entirely sure japanese exclusive 5000 produced sakura pink is a lighter shade of pink than pink and it's by far the most common of these editions with up to 50 000 produced it's hard to find good pricing details on blue and silver but sakura pink seems to go on for standard ps2 pricing maybe a bit more i'll give aqua blue a 4 out of 5. i think it's an improvement over toy blue sakura pink i'll give a 4 as well maybe 4.5 imagine that metallic silver i'll give a 3.5 out of 5 2.5 out of 5. i don't know it's kind of hard to tell whether it's just another satin silver even if it is shinier that's all dependent on condition and whatnot but who cares next up we have a similar albeit arguably rarer bunch of consoles the 20th million celebration releases also called the automotive edition this included the aforementioned metallic silver along with super red astral blue light yellow and pearl and or snow white these were available worldwide with estimates of 2 000 produced for each color these are very glossy which makes sense for the automotive edition i prefer this red and blue variant over all the others so 5 out of 5. the yellow looks great as well i'll give it a 4.5 just because i don't love you i don't like yellow that much but if i did this would be the best yellow silver and white are still similar to satin silver but whatever 4.5 out of 6. now there was another ps2 variant but it wasn't available to the general public the gran turismo for ps2 this was given out to various retailers in europe for quote selling a lot of copies of the game or something end quote up to a hundred were made and while it's not the flashiest box having any branding at all on a ps2 officially licensed is still quite a sight obviously there's no good way to value something with so few consoles released but just look at it i'll give it a four out of five maybe a three out of five like it's rare but it's just a matte black a few stickers on it probably maybe they printed it on it i don't know i don't own one i'll give it a gran turismo 5 prologue out of 5. now even if this is the rarest ps2 it's not the coolest ps2 let me explain the system was massively popular to a point where sony integrated it into other devices notably in 2010 the system was well past its life cycle but still being manufactured in europe there was unsold stocks only one to get rid of so they put it inside a 24 inch smart tv the bravia px300 it has a longer name but don't worry about it it was a 22-inch smart tv released exclusively in europe it has a fancy x-cross media bar online functionality hdmi ports and a ps2 at the base the models that were available sold out fast and now it's pretty difficult to find a willing seller up to 10 000 were produced making it not super rare but the feature set especially at the time made it very desirable sure you can't use the expansion pack or the ethernet and you're stuck with this 22 inch 1080p display but still it's an actual playstation tv and not like this one or that one i'll give this a 5 out of 5. four five five out of five finally we have another anomaly the psx this was a japanese exclusive dvr released in 2003 while it includes all the functionality of a ps2 and a ps1 it's mostly just a dvr the base model cost about 370 i mean 730 us dollars adjusted for inflation you could either get a 160 or 250 gigabyte hard drive model and it was the first use of the x cross media bar interface so that's cool gotta shout that out problem was reliability issues this thing today is mostly just sold for parts because most of them don't work no more it came in white and silver and there's possibly around a hundred thousand produced in total but there are actually a few other colors i haven't seen referenced before that's right maybe this is an exclusive maybe it's not i don't know but looking at the original announcement of this device a few other colors can be seen at a show floor including red yellow blue i imagine these are still somewhere in a sony warehouse if they still exist at all but given that they never saw official release i guess these are the rarest ps2s out there fives all around the additional colors get i don't know more than five more than five out of five so yup that's it that's all the ps2 colors probably i could make some drawn out ending to this video but i don't like those much either most viewers just click off before i get to this point anyway so end of video this
