The ULTIMATE Terraria fishing guide (1.4.4)

Terraria has a lot of surprisingly in-depth side features like golfing and drones but fishing is one that you will need to do if you plan on 100 beating the game among other things and while fishing might not seem too complicated on the surface it ends up being one of the most complex parts of Terraria that's why in today's video I'll be going over everything you need to know about fishing in Terraria firstly you need to know what fishing power is fishing power is a stat your player has that decides how often you get bites and how good those fish or loot will be there are multiple ways to increase your fishing power which I go over throughout this entire video One permanent way to increase your fishing power is to eat a gummy worm which will increase your fishing Power by three to get a gummy worm you will first need to get a golden worm and then not throw it in a shimmer pool where it will bounce back out as a gummy worm another quick thing to note is that besides the normal fish you can also fish up crates which will drop random items like potions and ores lastly while fishing power is the main factor in deciding how lucky you are while fishing your Lux stat also decides a good bit of it so make sure to not kill any ladybugs nearby next we will look at what pools of water you can actually fish in and how the weather can affect it you're able to fish in Honey and water normally and with special tools you can fish in lava but we will focus on just water for now and come back to the other two options later for you to be able to fish the water will need to be at least 75 blocks big or 300 if you want the best odds for good loot the weather is one of the easiest ways to boost your fishing power with rain giving you a 20 fishing power boost and snow giving a 10 boost now while that is one of the easiest ways to boost your fishing power the best way for sure is to fish at specific times depending on what time you decide to fish you can either get a plus 30 fishing power or a minus 20 on top of the weather and time the moon faces can also affect your fishing power with it either adding 10 or taking away five percent and while this final event doesn't affect fishing directly the blood moon has special fishing themed enemies that will drop Chum buckets which will increase your fishing Power by a maximum of 20 percent at three Chum buckets thrown in the water now we will take a look at the fishing poles and bait the fishing pole you use can be a huge fact in your fishing power with the max fishing power a fishing pole can have being 50 percent and the lowest being five percent I won't go over all of the fishing poles to save you guys time since I already go over some of the important ones throughout this video but I will leave a link to the wiki that shows all of the fishing poles and how to get all of them and while you can have a good fishing pole it won't do too much if you don't have bait you are able to use most of the bug Critters as bait but on top of fishing power your bait will also have bait power which is another factor that decides how often you get a bite and how good it will be while I won't go over all of the baits here some of the notable ones are the golden bugs which have 50 bait power the dragonflies which all have twenty percent bait power and the worm which has a 25 bait power while you are fine to use most of all of the bait in the game game using ladybugs will actually hurt your luck stat since you are technically killing them and if you didn't know ladybugs can affect your luck in Terraria now there are some other baits like the lava Critters and baits you get from the angler but we will touch on those later in this video I'll close off this section of the video by quickly going over the Truffle worm bait which is just a truffle worm you can find in an underground mushroom biome but it will only summon Duke fishron when used regardless of its 666 fishing power next we will take a look at the angler NPC each day at 4 30 a.m in your game The Angler NPC will have a new fishing Quest available for you where you will need to go find a special fish these special Quest fish will only appear when you have their receptive Quest active and turning in the fish to the angler will get you various rewards these based on how many quests you've completed starting with the angler armor which you fully get after the 20th Quest each piece will give you five percent fishing power next you have a one in one hundred chance to get the hotline fishing hook after finishing 25 quests and finally you will get the best fishing pole in the game after finishing 50 quests which is the golden fishing rod now while those items all have specific quests you needed to complete in order to obtain them the next set of items do not require any specific amount of quests to be done and are just given up by chance starting with one of the most useful out of the bunch we have the fisherman's pocket guide which will tell you your current fishing power next we have The Tackle Box which gives you a five percent chance to not use your bait when you throw your line out after that we have the high test fishing line which ensures that your fishing line never breaks then there's the weather radio and Sextant which will tell you the current weather and moon phases respectively and finally we have the angler earrings which give you a 10 boost to your fishing power the final set of items you can get from the angler is his special bait which are the master journeyman and Apprentice bait which each have a 15 30 and 50 bait power so they end up being pretty useful the chances of you getting bait will increase as you complete quests with you having a 50 chance on the first Quest and it maxing out at 100 at the 50th Quest on top of the chances of you getting paid in the first place with each Quest you complete the amount of bait you will get will increase with it capping out at 7 bait with 250 quests completed now while that was all of the angular items that can affect your fishing I'll have a Wiki Link in the description which will show the rest of the items you can get from him now I'll go over the few fishing items that you don't get from the angular NPC starting with the fish finder this item will tell you the weather moon phase and fishing power and is crafted with the items I went over which are the fisherman's pocket guide Weather Radio and sexting next we have the angler tackle bag which will give you plus 10 fishing power make your line unbreakable and give you a chance to not consume your bait the next thing you need to know about are the three potions that can help you out when you're fishing the first potion is the fishing potion which will increase your fishing Power by 15 for 8 minutes the second potion is the crate potion which doubles your chance to pull in a crate for four minutes and finally we have the sonar potion which will show what fish bites your lines for eight minutes finally for our last section we will take a look at fishing in Honey and lava starting with honey you will want to have your pool of honey be 200 bucks big for the best odds while fishing unlike the lava which we will get to shortly you do not need any specific fishing gear to fish in Honey and we'll really only need to do it when doing specific angler quests lava on the other hand has some special requirements and some decent loot as well to fish in lava you will need either the hotline pole the lava proof fishing hook or one of the lava bug Critters which are the butterfly snail and fly you will have a chance to get the hotline poll each time you complete an angler quest after you have already completed 25. the lava proof fishing hook will drop from hellstone and obsidian crates and finally to catch any of the lava Critters to use as fate you will need to have the golden net the final item related to Lava fishing is the lava proof tackle back which allows you to fish in lava regardless of Rod or bait used but with it being crafted with the lava proof fishing hook and the angler tackle bag it's definitely something that you will have to get after already being able to fish in lava that wraps up everything you need to know about fishing in Terraria while I did try my best if there is anything I missed I'll be sure to cover it in the pinned comment on this video or in a future video another thing I definitely will be covering in the future is a video going over all of the angler quests but that's too much to fit into this
