welcome back to the channel today we're going to be focusing on making Melodies today I'm going to be making three different types of Melodies I'm going to show you how you can build out pain Melodies dark trap Melodies and R&B Melodies From Scratch and I wanted to make this one like a three-part series to kind of cover all the different types of Melodies that I make on this channel so why not do all three of them give you the midi and make it like the best full Melody making guide let's go and the first type of Melodies we're going to go over is a little bit more of like an advanced one it's like those pain Melodies that are like real Soulful and kind of crazy I'm going to show you how to build this out inside the piano roll to make it easy but I'm going to play a little bit on the midi so you can kind of have an idea of what we're going to create inside the piano [Music] roll so let's bring up the BPM to like 150 160ish then we need to choose a scale to work in to make this easy we'll use a minor or C major so we can just utilize all the white notes on the keyboard and really all I'm doing to create those types of chords is using the root and the fifth of a Triad so pretty much that just means if we were to build out like an A Minor triad right here right and we drag this out let's go something like this so we have the a we skip a note Place skip a note place and this is the A Minor triad chord it consists of a root third and fifth so what I like to do is actually just utilize the root and the fifth and delete this middle note right here and then what I'll actually do is take this a right here and bring another one up here and then we have this so from here what I like to do is kind of get like a little bit of a rhythm going so if you hear when I play it on the keys I start with the two higher notes first right so we go like this drop it down so something as easy as that and then just build out from there and all I do is add in higher notes so this is going to be the bottom of the chord and then you just kind of get creative with it so we can go like this see what I'm saying we could also go like this that sounds pretty cool so let's just mess around with that and then we'll go and switch to another chord but let's just keep building this out so I'm hearing like a e and then something like this and then we can actually have this note repeat right here so we can just bring this in bring this out here and then we can add in a little bit more Melody here so Place one here here skip this place skip place and then we'll take this out and then we'll utilize another G so let's go right here and do something similar go like this and we can even bring this up another octave too just do something like that and all I'm doing is kind of just placing notes honestly to figure it out cuz I do play it on the midi keyboard a lot so I'm just trying to see what sounds cool and once you get like that core Foundation down you could really just build out and place notes like randomly watch we'll just see what happens I want it to kind of go down and then back up that sounds good and then we'll drop down one more note so let's go over here and watch when we add them in like a whole lower octave it'll sound even better so let's just bring this here and again Skip One Note Place Skip One Note Place take this note out and then we'll take both of these shift click over and then control up Arrow like that and we'll have them both maybe take this one control up one more and let's see what we could do with this let's bring this one in like this maybe [Music] I'm like hearing like [Music] that and then we can drag this over here and go back up so all we need to do is take this same chord right here and bring it here and we can mess around with [Music] these and then maybe bring this up an octave and then bam we already have a chord progression that sounds pretty Advanced just off building like a Triad and utilizing a root and a fifth and then bringing in like little bit to Melody that we he so now let's take all these root notes Here control click Over Control down arrow and then we can randomize this it obviously sounds better when you play these but if you're not going to play them or replay them just like all R try to randomize velocities mess with timing uh you can even strum some of these going here alt s let's actually take this over here contrl B and since this melody kind of goes up we'll build up even more Melodies over here [Music] down oh wait wait wait hold on that's [Music] fire [Music] something like [Music] [Music] that it's getting there hold [Music] on okay yeah there it [Music] is and then watch we could change this to a different key so we'll just hit control a and then shift up and down let's see that's fire [Music] ooh so next we're going to jump into some R&B and then we'll get into some dark trap let's go all right now for some R&B so I did bring the tempo down to like 96 somewhere from like 90 do 100 will be cool for this this one we're going to go with like simple four chord type of progression but I'm going to show you how you can utilize dominant seventh chords to really build out these chord progressions to get them to sound good so I'm going to show you like a nice cool easy trick and a nice cool chord progression that you could use so let's change this let's go to something like B minor for this right so we're going to build out on the one of the scale which is going to be B so let's just place a note right here and now we'll skip every other note in the scale so skip right here Place skip Place skip place this is going to give us the B minor 7th chord and another way that we can know that is there's two spacings here and then three spacings here that's going to be the structure when you're building out a minor chord is two spacing and then three if it were to be major it would be the opposite so it' be three spacings right here and then two and another way to check that is just come to the stamp tool and we're just going to go to major right here it's going to give us a major chord and then we can place that and boom and if we were to do a minor chord which is going to be right here and place that here here you will see that that matches up with what we have here except we added the seventh so anyways when we have that we have two spaces three and two that gives us a seventh chord so now it sounds like this so let's skip a note right here Place skip Place skip Place Another seventh chord but let's bring this over here so now these are going to be our two [Music] chords and you can already hear that these want to resolve to something right they kind of already have that iron be fed to it so this is where we're going to get into building a dominant seventh chord so what I want to do is go from this chord to a dominant seventh chord right here and that dominant seventh chord resolve to the next chord that we're playing which is this F minor 7th chord so to make this easy what I'm going to do is take this is going to be a little bit of music theory I'm going to take the fifth of this chord not the fifth not not the scale degree just the fifth of this chord which is root 3D Fifth and seventh that's why this is a seventh chord so we have the root the third and the fifth I'm gonna take the fifth right here and build out a dominant seventh chord before this chord happens right here and the dominant seventh chord is going to give us tension from here and then boom we get the tension so we're going to have a nice cord a whole bunch of tension and it's going to resolve here the reason why it resolves is in a whole another tutorial you could learn about that but let's just keep it simple all we're going to do is take the fifth of the chord which is going to be right here that we're going to go to next and build our dominant 7eventh so we got C right here to build out a dominant seventh chord all we have to do is place a note and then skip three spaces so 1 2 3 so we place one here skip two spaces place then skip another two spaces and place so you have three spacing two and two and that's going to give you a dominant chord some of these notes are outside of the scale but that's how we get that R&B feel and now our chord progression sounds like [Music] this so then to make make another little bit of tension here that will resolve here let's take this cord right here let's bring it over by shift and clicking and then all we're going to do is take this a right here so the third of the chord so we have roote third fifth 7th so we'll take the third and we hit shift and up to sharpen it this is building out another dominant seventh chord so you see again 3 2 and two and if you notice this F that we built out when it resolves to this chord it's actually that same thing it's the fifth of the cord we're going back to Route third and fifth it's that fshp and then the dominant seventh chord we built is an F dominant seventh chord so it's the same thing we did here by taking this Fifth and building out this dominant chord so we had C SHP as our fifth for this so we built out a c dominant 7th before this chord happened and it resolves nicely hopefully that makes sense let's hear what this sounds like [Music] now [Music] boom real nice R&B smooth feel to it now we can start to do some inversions to this and all that means is taking notes and moving them around different octaves so first thing I'm going to do is take all the root notes here take these bottom notes control down give us some more room to mess around with these chords and then we'll take this B right here bring it down see what else we could do maybe we could take this a bring it down let's hear what this sounds like down up get creative with it and this sounds nice you can mess around with this even more you could start to move notes in if you wanted to we can go something like this and then we can even add in like a quick little Melody like this [Music] right that sounds pretty nice I like that maybe we can strum this one so alt s to strum it and then we could take this all shift up one two three and then we will be in D Minor for this [Music] now oh so that's an easy way that you can build out an R&B chord progression with a little bit of Melody to it now let's get into the final one which is going to be a dark trap Melody let's go all right for this melody I brought the BPM up to 164 I did change the key to D minor for this so for this we're going to be focusing on using suspended chords and then the normal Triad and we can keep it on the same root note which is going to be the one of the scale right here so let's go right here to the stamp tool let's get a suspended two chord and let's click right here on the root note we want to use then let's get a suspended four chord click right here again and then let's build out the normal Triad so it's just going to going to be right here skip a note Place skip a note place so this is the Triad and then we have the two suspended chords so we have the root third and fifth to build out the D Minor triad so this is a Triad chord and then you can see for the suspended two all that happens is this third right here root 3D fifth the third gets flattened down one note in the scale you've seen this happen a lot when you have a Triad chord here and then you build another one right here and they just flatten the middle and you get this sound whenever you do that you're building out a suspended two chord and let's take a look at the suspended four chord all that's happening is the third root 3D and fifth so the third is going up one note in the scale obviously this note's not in the scale so one up would be here you could even build something out like this bring this over here one more suspended two right so now we have that going we can do that right here and we add in lower notes down here so let's Advance this a little bit now we can start to focus on tension notes in the scale which are going to be these notes right here and then these notes right here the notes that are right next to each other inside of the scale and that gives us tension so let's see what we can do with these may we com make them faster there we go bring this out maybe bring this over something like that and then we can even chop these up a little bit so let's go like [Music] this all right and then we drag this down one more octave so just bring this down here one more there and then we could build out a chord down here so root skip for the third skip right here for the fifth and then delete that bring this up one octave here then duplicate this over and watch I'm going to show you it's really basic right now but once you throw it into some effects and like a different sound and then like portal or something you can get real creative with this and then right here we'll bring this over but let's go down maybe to here and then bring this up one octave like that and then bring this in here then let's add a little bit of Melody right here then bring this back boom simple now let's copy that into analog Labs let's solo this let's go into my Gloom analog lab bank and let's get some type of like Bell or something and we'll throw a little bit of Reverb on it something simple like this and then what we're going to do next is throw portal on this so output [Music] portal right and then we can like render that out let's just do that real quick for [Music] fun so see just giving you kind of ideas of what you could do but using suspended cords is real cool if you want to build out like a quick dark trap Melody so hopefully this helps you create a couple different types of melodies for whatever beats your you're trying to make if you did like this video leave a comment down below and hit that like button let me know what tutorials I should do next as mentioned the midi for all of these Melodies is going to be in the description down below and of course if you're interested in any of my kits there'll be a link to those in the description as always appreciate you watching till the next tutorial [Music] peace
