The ULTIMATE Lore Guide to Childe / Tartaglia // Childe Summary (as of v2.2)

hey guys it's lady and welcome back to this series of videos where i break down everything about our favorite gentian characters from stories unlocked via raising companionship levels to voice lines said by other characters to appearances and event quests and so on in other words whether you don't have a specific character can't be bothered to raise their companionship levels need a refresher or just want the basic tldr of a character's text then this ultimate lore guide is for you thanks to his third rerun and inclusion in patch 2.2's main event in this video we'll be focusing on the friendly yet dangerous fatoui harbinger child so let's begin by going over the lore in his character stories unlocked via companionship leveling i just think this info will provide better context to child's actions during his actual appearances in game that we'll discuss later so with that said probably the most notable thing about child is that he's the youngest of the fatoui harbingers his 11th position being the most recent addition to their ranks his cheerful demeanor can be deceiving though since underneath lies a deadly swordsman who is one of the most dangerous of all the fatoui you see tartaglia has weathered countless battles since the young age of 14. he survived these terrible and fierce encounters and has honed various forms of martial arts to a deadly precision the only thing that's more terrifying than his skill in combat is his sheer passion for it you see terrifying foes only serve to exhilarate him and his cavalier nature guides him towards increasingly treacherous challenges so as you can see child is a fighter first and foremost which puts him at odds with his harbinger peers all of whom prefer to keep low profiles and resorting to deceit and treachery instead but unlike them child has no problem making himself known in public and somehow always manages to stir up unwanted trouble so much so that the other harbingers constantly get him sent on missions to places as far away from snezhnaya as possible to avoid the fallout but child's frivolous and confident personality belies the hesitant and frightened boy he once was this was before he was known by such names as child or tartaglia but by ajax a name given to him by his father now i'll talk a little bit more about this namesake's link to greek mythology later in the video but yeah back in those days ajax and his father would spend hours out on the ice chiseling away so that they could drop their lines into the water to fish it was during these long hours that his father told him all about the adventures of the hero whom he was named after the young ajax listened to these tales with wrapped attention and secretly envisioned those kinds of adventures for himself someday the child of the present has fond memories of ice fishing because of this and it still is one of his favorite hobbies to this day however nowadays he views time spent fishing as an opportunity to train further instead focusing on honing his endurance and reflecting on his combat techniques while waiting for the fish to bite but returning to the topic of his childhood believe it or not ajax was no combat whiz from birth in fact his path to becoming the battle-hardened warrior he is now is quite the tale when ajax was 14 he fled his monotonous life with nothing but a short sword and a bag of bread though unfortunately for him he became lost in the snowy forest and quickly became the target of wolves and bears with the beasts on hot pursuit ajax lost his footing and fell into a bottomless crack in the earth's surface here in the strange ancient world he met a mysterious swordswoman it appeared that this dark realm somehow sensed the burning passion in tartaglia's heart and so it sought to nurture his havoc making side within three months the swordswoman taught tartaglia how to pass through this abyss entirely unhindered though back in the real world only three days seem to have passed by the time his worried mother and sisters eventually found him in the forest tartaglia would never speak of what happened in that darkness to anyone and this first adventure of his would mark the end of his youth and the beginning of his days as a warrior his family was shocked at how drastically his once hesitant personality had shifted now the confident ajax acted as if the entire world and battle existed solely for his own sake fights and squabbles followed him wherever he went and overall he brought much havoc to the once quiet seaside village of maurepasok all the while ajax reveled in these brawls which continued to escalate until at last his father had no choice but to turn over his troublesome third son for a conscription into the fatoui he hoped the strict military training would hone his son's temper but he was sorely disappointed when ajax easily defeated squadrons of fully armed troops the boy's skills caught the attention of the fifth harbinger pulsinella though who had ajax officially inducted into the fatoui's ranks telling him to take up the duty of serving the tsaritsa with that tartaglia took it upon himself to vanquish the fatoui's foes until at last he was chosen to be a harbinger donning the mantle of child tartaglia became one of the most powerful figures in all of snezhnaya and so this brings us to the topic of his delusion child's companionship lore uniquely stands out from the rest of the playable gentian cast so far because the spot that would normally be dedicated to a character's vision has been relegated to describing a delusion instead this section notes that child still remembers with perfect clarity the day he received his delusion jester the very first of the fatoui harbingers pinned it on child's person as a reward for slaying countless numbers of snezhnaya's foes but for child it was the sight of the tsuritsa on her lofty throne that really stirred his heart that day not just because she had opened the way to even more exhilarating battles for him but because of her cold yet pure gaze one which signaled that not only was she the sacrosanct cryo archon but was a true warrior also from that point on child swore an oath of fealty to the one and only tsaritsa of snezhnaya or in other words total simple alert but now i think it's a good time to move on to child's appearances in the actual game starting with a recap of his major role in the main archon quest in leeway child makes quite the entrance by helping the traveler escape from the milith after the supposed assassination of rex lapis we get a quick glimpse of his water daggers making short work of our pursuers though we come to find out that he's actually one of the fatoui harbingers the traveler keeps their guard up considering the hostile encounter they've had before with los senora though child's intent to help seems genuine enough so they follow him to the northland bank to get out of range of any eavesdroppers here they're given a talisman called a sigil of permission according to leeway tradition these sigils prevent the adepti from bringing harm to the bearer since the leo chi singh have dispatched the milolith to capture all possible suspects of the assassination of the gor khan child advises us to seek an audience with the adept die since they are the only ones in all of leo who can clear the traveler's name now we report back to child once we've met with the adept eye and learned that in the meantime the chi singh has forbidden the public from paying respects to the xuvia's body and on another note paimon happens to let slip that we're trying to meet with all 7 archons so child promises to find someone who can help us with our predicament in more ways than one this is where i bring up a certain part of his companionship lore which is demonstrated here that being how he always keeps his promises so staying true to his word child finds us someone who can help solve the mystery as to why the chi singh is hiding the geo archon's vessel from the public we are introduced to mr zhongli a trusted associate of the fatoui courtesy of his ties to the wangshong funeral parlor zhang li is in charge of doing the last right ceremony for the geo arkhan's body so there we go thanks for hooking us up child fast forwarding through the shopping spree with jungley we see that child or while more like the northland bank is willing to cover all the costs for the expensive items needed for the ceremony and later that day child also gets a hearty laugh at our expense when he overhears chichi's mistake regarding coca goat milk though the next time we meet is after we've uncovered some shady research the fatoui has been conducting on the sigils of permission it turns out the leo chasing has hidden the xuvia's body at the golden house where they mint maura and that the traveler has arrived just as child is about to claim the geo archons gnosis for the tsuritsa the flippant young man of before is unexpectedly serious now adamant about fulfilling that suritsa's will but since we are here it looks like child will also get a taste of his favorite thing about being a harbinger after all and that's the pure unadulterated battle as we've seen in his companionship lore the traveler goes toe-to-toe with child's first two forms though he falls for a trick that allows child to get up close to the xuvia's body he admonishes our naivety telling us we should have expected trickery from him all along as he reaches for the gnosis only to find it's not there he automatically assumes we beat him to it so in a fit of rage he unleashes the terrifying power he learned from his time in the abyss or well at least according to the description of the shard of foul legacy drop sustaining this foul legacy transformation takes a huge toll on his body though plus he soon realizes we never had a chance to take the gnosis to begin with so once child has collected himself he moves on to plan b and summons forth a vast number of sigils of permission by concentrating the immense power of each one of these sigils into the single place it'll allow him to awaken the ancient god osyal and force the hand of the geo archon child truly never wanted things to come to this since there will be a huge number of casualties but he has no choice now and with that he takes off he's not seen again until the final scene of the leeway archon quest where he's lamenting his role as the bad guy who had the rug pulled out from under him seeing how zhong li the real geo archon had a contract with senora all along about handing over the gnosis now moving on to child story quest act one starts when the traveler spots a little boy playing in one of leo's dangerous ruin guard sights apparently this kid has no idea how dangerous this place is and even believes the ruined guards are toys calling them mr cyclops he's from snezhnaya and is looking for his brother who's apparently the top toy seller in the world so we take him to the northland bank to ask around when lo and behold the kid is child's little brother to sir all along we witness some touching family reunion time and find that tartaglia is quite the doting older bro though he gets uncharacteristically bashful and shushes us when we're about to talk about the fatoui harbingers turns out child's been telling cuser that he's a toy maker since kids love those things and he wants his little brother to think he's cool child hands a traveler a large money pouch and asks them to show to sir a nice time around leeway while he takes care of his fatui work tucsor tries to play along at first but it's obvious that he really just wants to spend time with his brother so unfortunately for a child he's interrupted during his little threatening session as a debt collector this quickly becomes a humorous pattern where tucser and the traveler always catch child at the worst time where he then has to play pretend as a toy seller instead of the ruthless fatoui harbinger he really is but finally tuser agrees to go back to snezanaya if his older brother lets him do one last thing he wants to see the place child says he works at the institute for toy research though really it's just one of the other harbingers de torres abandoned research facilities child still keeps up the toy seller act of course and downplays all the ruin guards as just mere toys though things become dire when twoser rushes off into the factory on his own the door shutting firmly behind him we urgently pursue via a separate route and when the paths eventually converge in front of the very last room we see that there are even more active mr cyclops eye to tucsor's delight to buy some time child tells his little bro that he's prepared a surprise for him though they'll have to play a round of hide and seek first then the traveler and child try to incapacitate all the ruin guards before twoser finishes counting down and opens his eyes but unfortunately for them there are just too many machines so as a last resort child tells tucser to count for 10 more seconds then uses his foul legacy transformation to demolish the remaining machines the traveler finds a severely weakened tartaglia right around the corner while teuser is still checking out the remains of the ruin guards child was still recovering from the toll the foul legacy took on his body from our fight with him back in the archon quest so what he did just now has only compounded upon his weakened state we also finally learn why he's been so adamant this entire time about shielding twoser's childhood dream child fiercely defends any promises he makes and that includes the one about the toys that he helped give his little bro in the first place but since he doesn't want tucson to see him like this he entrusts us with giving his little bro the actual ruin guard toy model he had made for him cuser really is a good kid and accepts his bros early departure as well as a return trip to sneshanaya and once he departs from lee away with his escort child sincerely thanks the traveler for their help and promises he'll show them around and introduce them to his family when they eventually reached nezhanya legit mihoyo don't be giving us these death flags like this but moving on to event quest now child has only shown up in one but he did have quite a big role in it so in last patch's labyrinth of fog event traveler xinyan and the amnesiac paper doll shikitai show enter the omyodo chamber only to find that someone is already inside since this would be shinyan's first meeting with the snezhnayin paimon jumps in before the latter can say anything and introduces tartaglia as a fellow adventurer they met in monstat this genuinely shocks child but he quickly goes along with paimon's story just like in his individual character quest we see how much family means to him since he can't help but think that his brother would love shiki taisho's cute model well xinyin reminds him of his little sister child's combat prowess proves to be a major asset anyway against the fierce monsters in this domain on the quest to help shikitaisho recover his lost memories eventually shikitaisho remembers he once served someone named harunosuke and child's response to that confirms the traveler's suspicions that there's no coincidence as to why the harbinger is here he must have been sent by the tsuritsa we continue to progress through the domain and one shikitai show finally remembers everything and it's about time to say our goodbyes child takes the traveler aside and fesses up about his true reason for being here it turns out that scaramouche has not been in contact with any of the harbingers even though he's already recovered the electro archons gnosis child thought this domain might have had something to do with him but alas he's back to square one when it comes to the balladeer before he takes off child lets the traveler know he really did enjoy this adventure together but now we've arrived at the final section of this video with that being tartaglia's thoughts on other characters and just miscellaneous thoughts about him in general starting off with zhong li child is still pretty miffed about having been fooled by mr g.o.r khan for so long so he's hoping to get back at him someday via a fierce duel speaking of people he's raring to go up against he hopes to challenge the leader of the knights of evonius the knight of boreas himself grandmaster varka at some point we can see in game how strong child is in present day but back when he was first training in the depths of the abyss he was so below his master skirks level that she was able to fend him off even while handicapped to just one hand and by the way if we take a closer look at child's elemental skill we can see how closely it resembles the hydro daggers wielded by the abyss heralds so it's thought that skirk must be of their rank now as for child's master in the real world the tsuritsa he senses that she's actually a gentle soul deep down but that she had to steal herself to make war with the world the implication here being that it's supposedly for the greater good potentially though we still have no real details about the saritza's goal still but even if it isn't based on child's background alone we can see why he'd have respect for someone who has had to steal themselves to become the strongest warrior they possibly can be but looking at child's lore there are also just so many death flags one of these being how his given name ajax refers to a hero from greek mythology in the mythos ajax had a half brother named two sir who was skilled with a bow meanwhile ajax himself was skilled with a shield and melee combat so it looks like mihoyo took some liberty with the mythos and just mashed it all into tartaglia like with him being least skilled with a bow but speaking of death flags ajax eventually dies with many iterations saying that he did so with remorse of some kind i know there's tons of speculation as to what this can all symbolically mean but i don't want to go too deep into the mythological symbolism in this video though i may release another video about child and greek mythology later if there's some interest but finally just to clarify child's names ajax is his given name or i.e his real name tartaglia is his name within the fatoui harbingers seeing as all of them are named after stock characters from the commedia dellarte a historically popular form of italian theater while child is basically just an alias nickname now to wrap up the current lore child is honestly just a super laid back personality despite his crazy bloodlust for battle he's not picky when it comes to food nor choice of weapons available to him with the voice lines on a similar topic indicating that he's quite content no matter what's going on in life so even though he and traveler are on opposing sides right now child still sees them as a true friend since anyone who's continuously seeking to become stronger is one in tartaglia's book but yeah i'd love to know if you learned anything new from this video or if you think i missed So I actually started playing Genshin during the first Childe banner and missed him then :( But got him on his 2nd rerun! Got C1 on the 3rd rerun (and also so great to see him in an event quest for once)! And JUST got my first 5-star bow ever, Skyward Harp for Childe while going for Itto weapon (since I also main Noelle & now, Itto lol. this definitely was a great weapon banner for me personally :P)

Can never have too many reruns of Mr. Worldwide in my book!
