The Ultimate Ford 3.5L Ecoboost Upgrade!

hello and welcome back to the for check make your loco channel today we're going to talk about a new upgrade heck i would say the ultimate upgrade for the ford 3.5 liter duratech engine both the naturally aspirated and ecoboost models and that is drumroll please yes smelling has finally come out with a high volume oil pump for these engines it's the m9 m390 hv oil pump and it's a 20 higher volume oil pump over stock okay it's a direct bolt in simply bolted up in place of the stock pump on there the pickup will match up everything matches up on there now the pump does include uh a 100 psi i would call it racing spring in there i would not use that spring in a stock engine but they do include the 85 psi release spring in the box usually swap that out and you can use it in there now this pump couldn't have come at a better time okay because these engines they're getting older now higher mileage and they're great little engines but they're going to need a higher volume oil pump to make up for those excessive clearances in there a lot of these have chain wear issues especially in the f-150s uh and then of course the upper end vct units there's four of them now and they need all that whale volume up there to make sure they can work as these vehicles and these engines age now the great part about this pump is that it covers a lot of models and a lot of years so for instance in 2007 when this engine was first introduced in the ford lineup and the edge it applies to that engine all the way up until 2020 in the ford flex okay so you can see it covers a lot of miles and years just about the only par the only engines it doesn't cover um is the second generation 3.5 liter ecoboost engine that was first used in the 2017 ford f-150 as we all know the whole engine basically was redesigned dual chain setup etc and that has a totally different pump with the solenoid in it and all that stuff uh and there's no high volume oil pump for that one yet um and then in 2018 uh the ford expedition received that second gen 3.5 liter uh ecoboost engine also but otherwise just by every other model the pump has been the same okay so it applies all models now if you're worried about which model that you have and if it applies there is a melling uh part lookup that is great it's all been updated now he's punching your model and your event information in there and you can see if it applies to your vehicle or not now this pump right here uh is one of those things that i would toss in any time i'm inside of one of these engines the the transversely mounted engines they have a lot of issues with the internally mounted water pumps failing and you're pulling the whole front end of the engine apart just to get the water pump swap it out great time to change the chain tensioner and this freaking oil pump upgrade the oil pump while you're in there the f-150 models and even the expeditions a lot of chain stretch issues and we're issues because of the extra weight they're lugging around that's what it all comes down to really um so they're having a lot of issues like that well this pump's gonna provide the extra volume in there to help with all that and plus these engines like i said they're coming out now and they're they're they're been out since you know oh seven uh and they're starting to get a lot weirdo so they can really benefit from a high volume oil pump the other part of this upgrade is that um well starting in technically made of this year may of 2020 uh the api has released the new oil spec sp they had sn for a long time sm plus for a while to address the lspi issues low speed uh pre-ignition issues um and now they have this sp oil they jumped right over oh because it's called standard oil in canada or something like that so they went from n to p now uh this new p oil is actually specifically designed to address a lot of issues that the ford ecoboost engines whether you guys know it or not so when they were testing the oil the api is testing it and the oil manufacturers testing it they were testing it they had to test and pass chain wear issues uh and a lot of other issues on the ford ecoboost engines that was their test mule okay because there is enough issues out there so what was happening is the older oils weren't protecting enough with all soot and blow by uh coming past the piston rings on it because they're low friction piston rings on there unless it was getting into the oil circling around around around and it was creating a lot of wear and the pins and rollers on the roller timing chain on there and the chain as you guys know in the first gen was like six seven feet long if you guys stretched it out maybe even longer it was one timing chain went through everything on there so he had a lot of pins and rollers on there to actually wear out so if you're going to go in there and change the pump out or even before that and you're going to do oil changes look for the new oils out there that have the sp rating on so i was pleasantly surprised because i haven't seen it really yet come out i mean may it was released and it starts filtering out the different uh stock they deplete old stocks and they start expanding the different weights and stuff like that so i was pleasantly surprised to see the standard oil right here basic oil from pennzoil i know you guys can't see that uh is actually sp rated on there so we're starting to see it even coming down to the basic pennzoil on here uh so that's something you want to look for when you're changing oil on one of these engines especially the ecoboost models because it's going to prevent a lot of wear so i just want to let you guys know that these uh items are out there the sp spec is out there we're starting to see it filtered down and m390 pump is out there it's real this is a real milling box and this is a real pump and the reason why i say that is because if you type in google right now you look up m390 hp pump you're not going to see anything at all there nothing comes up not even the melling press release on this pump there's nothing uh so but trust me it's out there and it's available uh i'm they're working with their suppliers like jegs and summit and amazon to start selling it and i'm gonna start working with uh northern auto parts uh on amazon to start selling it and making it available make it easy readily accessible let's just say you know amazon's so easy to order from um and once i do i'll be linking to it down below in the meantime i'll i'll link to the press release and the mailing parts look up on there so you can see
