THE ULTIMATE CHALLENGE - train vs. plane, Glasgow to London, Virgin v BA / FLYSGSKAM flight shame

hi everyone today I'm going to try a travel experiment I've often wondered what was the quickest way between Glasgow and London whether by train or whether by plane so today I'm going to do it I'm gonna race myself the distance is around 345 miles or 555 kilometers and I'm gonna take you along I'm gonna be racing myself yes I'm going to be racing my itself Team Blue on British Airways and team red will be travelling on virtue west coast the challenge is to see who can get from the centre of Glasgow here at George Square to the centre of London to power square the quickest I've already brought this out on paper and believe it or not it's exactly the same time whether you go by train or fly five hours in 25 minutes there's no cheating but there will be a few tweaks along the way I'll explain what they are shortly so on paper it's a tie but who do you think is going to win team red on virgin west coast or team blue on British Airways I'm racing myself so we'll be a true competition and we'll be no bias where we do have stop watches so you're ready we have a flight and a train to catch and you're coming along so what is ready 1 2 3 go 1 2 3 go my tweet will be to have sitting of the front of the train so I can make a sharp exit at Euston station I don't want a couple of hundred passengers ahead of me slowing up my progress my only tweak will be to pay for advanced seat selection on British Airways that way I can get off the aircraft quickly at Terminal five without having to wait for ten minutes for everyone else to get off before me I'll also be using the Heathrow Express between Terminal five and London Paddington it's a lot quicker than using the underground [Music] [Music] well wouldn't you know it I expected my team blues flights to London to be delayed in fact it's my train that's been canceled I've been rebuilt onto a train one hour later but the stopwatch is still running so that means Team Blue is actually going to win on this occasion but as long as I get to London that's the main thing [Music] [Music] another two week I'm giving herself is the check-in time here at Glasgow Airport the VA website says two hours for domestic check-in and I believe in hour and a half is enough safety [Music] I can't believe that chambers canceled I really thought I was in with a chance of beating team blue today oh well [Music] like accident Preston wicked Northwestern warrants 13 plus accommodation he's up the front of the train in coaches GH gym but in jazz the penstock this service is Carlile where would you to ride at 11:47 Carlisle our first stop Mickey well here is a challenge [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] but for those customers destroying a variable welcome aboard has been share mates like to learn new folks going to be buying it to help us get to real-time feeds and show your hand back to safety this way kudos automatic anchors checking [Music] the air can't be talked up by using this mouthpiece and there's a whistle and light for attracting attention do not inflate your lifejacket - you are not side the aircraft [Music] I get down closer to take off please [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you God with grace needs for that date please [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] welcome on board Virgin Trains we'll be travelling to London Houston calling at Preston Wiggin Northwestern Warrington banky biggest asset until the fasten seat belt signs have been switched on Emma no Mia can receive calls raises all data services on your handheld electronic devices but it's safe to leave your seat I'll take care when opening a head lock as items may have moved a critical amount of cause injury [Music] [Music] thank you doors to buy a new one cross-check [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] Circle Line trains leaving from this muscle will show you the destination of barking once again [Music] for over 34 minutes Team Blue [Music] don't you want marketing [Music] make sure you have all your luggage and belongings with you and please mind the step down to the platform welcome on board Virgin Trains we'll be travelling to London Euston [Music] [Music] good afternoon lady john silver's just passion when we stadium alone there were about seven or eight minutes from the destination point hello London [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] while I made it with a time in six hours and 16 minutes which is pretty good going considering of delayed by an hour in Glasgow five hours 15 minutes it had been one time and not canceled and I estimated it would take five hours 25 that was pretty good which of these two journeys was more stressful traveling by air or traveling by train don't forget to hit that like button and subscribe because it only encourages me to make more of these videos well four hours and 34 minutes is a little quicker than the estimate of five verse 25 in actual fact it was a hundred minutes quicker than team red on Virgin Trains that is partly don't the fact that the morning train was cancelled it would have been a forty minute difference which is still substantial but I've done some calculating here on a bit of paper there was a hundred minutes quicker but it actually cost eighty pounds and more to travel by air they cost forty pounds to travel by rail it cost 120 pounds to travel by plane which equates to and I like this statistic every five minutes you're paying an additional four pounds just to arrive here early if it hadn't been for the delay this morning a 40-minute difference I think I would still travel by train because at least you get a rest and if you don't like the person next to you you can go somewhere else so hope you enjoyed this video like he said press the like button and subscribe because it will only encourage me to do more see you next time you
