EGYPTIAN STREET FOOD: culinary HEAVEN! Virtual Egyptian tourism and Covid-19.

hi everyone today i'm starting a video the likes i've never tried before and in fact i've looked on youtube can't see anything like this so this could be totally uncharted waters virtual tourism here in the uk we have some fairly strict uh covered 19 travel restrictions you are discouraged from traveling overseas at the moment and if you do depending on what country you've been to you could face a 14-day quarantine period on your return that's not much fun so what do you do when you want to go somewhere exotic like egypt you bring egypt to you and that's what this video is all about i'm going to try and focus on egyptian street food i'm going to look for egyptian attractions i might even end up walking like an egyptian all here in the glasgow area tonight we're gonna have dinner we'll meet at six o'clock and we're going for an egyptian kebab okay guys thanks very much for joining me on the first leg of our virtual tour to egypt today's dining experience will be an egyptian kebab and i had to do some online research because i wasn't quite sure what to expect apparently egyptian kebabs usually are obscured but sometimes have pita bread i think this might be a pita bread one knowing this place down here hey what to expect well they're usually uh comprised of lamb or chicken and i had to write the spices down on a piece of paper here guys just for accuracy accuracy sakes a curry powder turmeric dry mustard and cardamom so this is going to have a real kick to it and i can't wait right let's get down to this kebab shop so [Music] well i got it that's the egyptian kebab it comes with chicken it comes with naan bread so that should be pretty good uh he asked me if i wanted extra spicy sauce on it and i said oh yeah so it should be a good one there isn't enough light in the town center here for me to fully show you what i've got here so i'm taking this home so we can digest and dissect this together well guys i've made it home and i'm glad i came instead of trying to find somewhere to do this in the town centre because the heavens have opened up right let's get this opened up but it comes in a styrofoam box look at that how cool does that look the the chicken was actually on a skewer but he took them off the skewer and put them in the grill i don't care this looks fantastic i'm gonna just try a little bit chicken on its own [Music] wow let's get a kick to it that is delicious try a little bit of an and bread even though it should be pitted i think i'm gonna have a bit more chicken you get the salad as well he asked me if i wanted the spicy sauce on it and i said yes [Music] that's my first experience of egyptian food and if that's anything to go by this is going to be a great virtual journey i'm looking forward to it right tomorrow tomorrow morning we head off into the center of glasgow we're going to look at a couple of um egyptian relics and then we might have lunch in a tea room have some egyptian mint tea and see what pastries and snacks they've got i can't wait see in the morning right let's get stuck into this that's so hot but [Music] wow hi everyone today we're going to visit two museums the first one is the hunterian museum which states from 1807 and is scotland's oldest museum we're then going to go to kelvin grove which is currently scotland's most popular tourist attraction both museums have some stunning egyptian artifacts then we're going to go for wait for it a full egyptian breakfast sounds fantastic anyway as you can see we've got typical egyptian weather today i'm heading in before i get sunstroke [Music] and now on our virtual trip to egypt the kelvin grove museum [Music] there are loads of things to see here this is a great museum but i'm here for one reason only [Music] so [Music] i don't know [Music] well i think that's enough culture i hope you've built up an appetite right we're going to find this tea room now and they do the full egyptian breakfast and they do it all day here in scotland if you stay at a hotel guest house bed and breakfast they will offer you a full scottish breakfast which includes a bit of everything what's in a full egyptian breakfast who knows but i can guarantee it doesn't include bacon right i'll see you when we get there [Music] thank you all right well guys that meal was absolutely amazing not the sort of meal you would eat in a hurry i was there for a full hour and i still didn't manage to eat everything it was such a great spread that two people actually came up to me and asked me excuse me what are you having fantastic meal very popular cafe i managed to get the last table and i could hear quite a few arabic accents in the cafe as well anyway i'm heading into the glasgow city centre now i need to check something out for you the next stop is so why was i showing you a former police phone box like the one appears on the tv program doctor who well there's a little man in there and he makes falafels and it's been rumored they're the best ones this side of the sewers canal but can you imagine my disappointment when i found the places closed that seems to be a fitting way of ending this video actually because very shortly glasgow and the whole of the central belt of scotland will go into a three-week lockdown to try and get covered 19 under control so there won't be any videos from me for at least three to four weeks for some of you that might be a good thing who knows anyway i hope to see you in december in about four weeks time stay safe see you then you
