everyone thinks that sniping is just about uh like shooting in general there's a million one other things that have an effect on that shot reaching its destination your chosen destination i myself just keep more of a blank mind like i try not to over complicate things because then you'll start working yourself up and that's when you start ruining your shots [Music] this year the tri-service sniper championships took on a different form less competition more sniper symposium to share expertise amongst the nation's most skillful snipers today's test is an unscheduled shoot the snipers have no idea what is about to happen the sniper's going to come in they're going to enter this angle on the right hand side in there they'll find a casualty one of them will drag the casualty to the first aid point at the rear while he's doing that the other guy is going to be shooting targets out to about 40 meters from there then they'll move over to the next angle where they'll find another casualty that'll be extracted and then they'll engage a series of targets between 300 and 600 meters the top of the steps end will identify another series of targets to be engaged so the first set of targets end is going to be representing a enemy close onto the location shoot them and then they'll look into the far distance out to the front so there's two metal vehicles just off to the side those vehicles in front there's a series of targets that then shoots at range between 300 600 meters once they then shot all of those targets that then ends the event for the falling plates they're scored per hit for the targets just to the front they're scored on the scoring zones on the face and on the center of the target and then for the steels that we've got out in the far distance that again is scored per hit the shot's not just about pointing down range and pulling the trigger camera concealment stalking observation judging distance that all comes into the wider part of the sniper it's not all just about being a good shot so you've got your internal blistex you've everything inside the weapon then you've got external blasts everything in between the weapon and the target so you've got wind you've got things like spin drift so the way the barrel twists so when you fire the reindeer will naturally twist towards the right if it's a right-hand twist whilst the training of army navy and air force snipers is similar in the police they do things differently they have different weapon systems and different techniques their enemy is usually much closer and often amongst civilians they are more based around the short sharpshooter sort of variation of a sniper using short range distance really fine-tuning accuracy but then there's a lot less variation with atmospherics where we are trained to push our rifles out between 1200 1500 meters which then also has effect by wind humidity humidity is a big thing when you're in the jungle or if it's a dry temperature as well now if there's more moisture in the air be more drag on the round you have to compensate for your elevation if it's dry area the rain will fly a lot faster because there'll be nothing there nothing's stopping it nothing giving the friction to fly through there stand by go corio respect is the spinature of the earth and direction so obviously sun rises in the eastern sets in the west due to the coriolis effect when you're firing around 1000 meters onwards you've got to imagine where that target's going to be not where it is so it can only have a minor effect but 1500 meters if i was to put data on for a center mass shot it's very likely that shot then would hit left or right of the target due to coriolis effect this do you know what you're going to do now you're going to make your way to that staircase there with a safety who's handled once you get there you can draw your secondary weapon system and listen to the safety understand on the phone standby you're a young lad you're playing these roles on games and you're running about and you're just whipping the rifle up looking through your sight and taking this long shot and that's the cool side of it that just seems like one of the best things you could ever do the reality of it is that isn't the job at all yeah that type of thing does happen very rarely but there's just so much more to it stop by 10 rounds each engage with the final team through the scores are totted up albeit for bragging rights only sharing skills amongst the nation's snipers is the most important lesson of the day hannah king forces news in sunny bridge wales if you enjoyed this video don't forget to like and subscribe to our channel you
