[Music] what do we want to try and make out of I'd like to see it go to eight eight thousand he got gas ties by Streetcar [Music] oh what are you doing trying to get the bars I'm lost yes PPS told me to turn left oh Bob's right there what what you're this Bob's feel [Music] we're here thank God I was lost foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] as you can see the engines on the Dynam we started up yesterday it sounded great it ran for two minutes and then we shut it off we always try to do that and just make sure let's take the valve covers off make sure there's oil getting at the top of the engine and we suspected there might be an issue when we were priming it because it took a really long time to get oil up into the heads and onto the Rockers and the tips of the valves and everything we shut it off after a couple minutes pulled the valve covers and there wasn't any more oil on the top of the motor and when we primed it so and we didn't get a lot when we primed it and actually all of the intake rockers were dry we weren't getting a little at the top and this is something that I've never had to deal with before I've never had a really large camshaft with uh I guess this is an issue when you have a really small base circle on a cam that's a solid roller so the oil passes through the oil galleys here for the lifters and it goes through and it goes through this right here but then to get up into here and go up to the push rod that has to go through this hole and if there's not a whole lot of uh clearance I guess they can't get through that hole and up through the push rod fast enough so you have to notch the lifter just a little bit now actually you don't have to notch it you just put a little scratch in it from that small hole to right here and some lifters have a hole like a big round hole and some of them have this groove but either way it's the same principle when you put that scratch in there it just allows oil to get up through and up through the push rod we basically tested it first we used a pretty large Groove and it was too much it actually it went from having no oil at the top to having a geyser out of the push rod that almost hit bob in the face like he had to put his thumb over it and that was it would it literally would have shot up and hit that wall like it was a lot and that's that's just with that little groove right there see that it's real it's a fine line it's a very fine line and then over here you can't even hardly see it but you can feel it with your the fingernail that was just enough you barely just scratch it and that was enough to get oil up through the push rod and onto the tip of the rocker the rocker arm and everything it looked really good on the drill when we were priming it it had plenty of oil flow through the through the push rod so what we need to do is this lifter we can't use anymore because we went too far on this one it's going to put too much of a lot of that one so we have to take a new lifter put it in this this spot and then massage all the other ones scratch all the other ones and then we're going to put the intake back on it refire it up and check and see if we we have good oil to the top and if we do we're going to go ahead and Dyno it we might do a couple heat cycles and then Dyno it tomorrow we might pull on today I'm not really sure I think Dad might come in and uh offer some help with the carburetor if we need it uh so when you say scratch it how are you what are you scratching it with like to make that little he's got a little uh first to use a pack of Dremel okay and then that was too much so he used his little engraving tool oh okay doing grave stuff and it just like basically vibrates really fast the little engravers enough just just barely touch it just barely touch it and it's enough yeah I mean I know a lot of people have had this issue before turbo John reached out and said he had to do it on his motor as well it's just something where some camshafts and some lifter combinations they just need to have that done I've never had to do it before Bob's never had to do it but we're also running a lot of new stuff that we've never ran before and the cam is pretty big base circle is really small so that's where we're at what are you watching oh this chick she's building an lt5 for Camaro just a chick yeah some girl I don't know her I'm not a fan or anything you know it's just uh this just popped up you know thumbnail she got you with that thumbnail the clickbait yeah she gets everybody with a thumbnails nope I didn't want to wear it fine I did it by hand but I controlled the the lifter going across the vibrator across that at your knife and I felt really comfortable about that but I just I'm still trying to be since yesterday I went too much I'm trying to find out what where it's at where's the old one that we went too far on yeah we're still in here and we did both sides on it right yes we did now this one here I've done both sides of here hold this in there and I'll compare this so you see here you can see that I I did was scratch it you wanna feel it I mean I I agree that I haven't went as much as that but I didn't want to go as much as I so all I need to do is go a little more because I want to see us to get the flow with that push rod [Music] looks pretty good there dude wake up in the morning that's excellent things up there on that yeah yeah foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign foreign [Music] foreign I did it first person you're not right I'm just trying to make this pop so what do you think I think we rerun the valves you know check them all seal up this header leak over here are good shape now we got it to make noise a couple little leaks that I'm not extremely concerned with batteries so I ordered a K member from 417 Motorsports it's uh gonna have bumper mounts core support mounts already on it it locates off the lower control arm for your bolt hole so you bone it on and then you weld it in place you cut the frame off right right in front of the control arm and then I got some uh that k-member comes with control arms I'm gonna get it fully loaded without tubular control arms I'm gonna do a long travel kit it's going to be a lot lighter it's gonna have a steering rack instead of that cast iron steering gear box so I got all that stuff coming and then I also am going to uh I think I'm going to bite the bullet and do fuel injection I've already got the Holley Dominator I've already got injectors I think all I need is the uh the harnesses so I get the harnesses and all that stuff I'm not sure if I'm going to wire it off the key or if I'm going to do a switch panel like what's in the Nova yet I think it really needs to rewire the whole thing it's just it's a mess so it's going to be quite the project this winter we're basically redoing the entire truck except for the rear suspension hopefully it pays off you know uh probably gonna be 300 pounds lighter by the time we're done all around so it's it's definitely going to work a lot better on the street and it's going to make a lot more power I think got to keep up with everybody you know everybody's getting faster and faster and faster and we can't we can't fall behind got to do it and we've got time to do it this winter so we're gonna take the time and do what we needed to have been we've needed to do this for a long time you know the truck has always been a disadvantage Weight Wise and it's always been at a disadvantage tuning wise you know with the carburetor being limited to a lot of things not having any data it's time to step it up a notch you know that truck showed this year that it's still competitive even for the stuff it has can you imagine if I actually put some money and time into it like I put into the Nova the Nova will also be back together by Spring and you know once this motor's done once my dad gets his Motors done we're gonna hop back on the big block you know get it rolling again all we really need to do there is put the put the engine back together put it back in the car front end put back on it and it's it'll be ready to go yeah what are you doing now adjusting valves or yeah I'm adjusting valves while it's hot cam card calls for 28 hot so that's what I'm setting them at intakes coming up adjust the exhaust next to it I had a few over here that felt pretty loose that one feels a little bit tight actually so you'll finish up here and tomorrow we'll come back and likely make a pull on that or yeah so we've got a few little leaks we need to fix I need to run these valves I need to reseal this header because it's warped from where I welded it and uh be able to make a pull on this this stuff takes a lot of time you know something happens overnight can't get in a rush get in a rush you start tearing up foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] about what this test was and why you got a different carburetor on there yeah so yesterday we fired it up on E85 and Bob didn't really like how the oil temp was Rising a lot faster than the water temp we had about 180 degree oil temperatures and we were only about 140 degree water temp my dad mentioned that on when he put his car on alcohol back in the day changed it from gas to alcohol for whatever reason his oil temp the same day he changed it was like 40 or 50 degrees higher so for whatever reason when you're running alcohol or ethanol based fuel it puts more heat in the oil so we wanted to verify that it wasn't an issue with the engine we wanted to start up on gas with Bob's carburetor off his race car and see what the oil temperature did and it stayed lower today it stayed about 150 160 rather than 180 190 so and it Rose a lot slower it stayed below the water temperature the whole way so we verified that there's nothing wrong with the oil temp being higher it was just a fuel and we were probably going to pull it on gas just because Bob he prefers race gas over E85 it's just what he's used to what he knows more about in that carburetor that come off his race car should be pretty close there's a lot of unknowns about the the other carburetor we had on there it was sent to my dad as a test carburetor for his Malibu so it's probably not jetted appropriately for this engine so I think the gas carburetor is going to be a lot closer and we were able to see that the oil temp was just a result of changing fuels around so we're going to make a pull on it once it cools down a little bit and if she does and then we'll make her do it to Nikki can we get everybody's horsepower predictions real quick I'm going 559 I'll be happy if it makes 525 just like 406 didn't but at a higher RPM that must be generous what do you think Bob 580 wow all right um it sounds beefy those heads and that camera personal yeah and it's got asymmetic compressions [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign foreign it was like yeah here we go holy it wanted to keep going yeah I didn't see the egts get above 800 900. wow 566 at 72.50 200. oh yeah because I mean 7 000 it went from yeah see when it makes these dogs it's going too fast for the for it so I have to slow it down here on the mechanical side but 7200 566. yeah it was still eaten yeah 570 yesterday I think it might make 600 if we go to like 80. it's probably going to go to 8500 well I let off of it it's still it the fuel that was in it yeah cool it works all over the freaking noise outside yeah [Applause] um oil pressure stay consistent right up through it's really good yeah so so we literally just took carburetor offline race car yeah and did nothing to it um yeah the EG Keys here we've got to a thousand degrees so it's plenty rich but you gotta look back here at six thousand where we're where we were talking at this cam was going to work so at 6200 basically you're at 500 horse so it was green but it was going from 6 000 I'm sorry 6000 to 500 horse 200 and 500 horse up through 7 300 this will make a horsepower up through here so this motor would Peter off about where that for this starting to go on front right now we need to make some adjustments here to slow this down to get more of a basic number or more fill in these spots but this gives us a rough idea that you're still in that six thousand pan yeah yeah because it's still making good power there yeah it's still making good power but it's flaming so when you're going when you put boost on this with that RPM It's Gonna Fly yeah laughs so you know we got a lot more to genos I will make more fun on ethanol for um it just means it's cold on the carburetor I haven't done any testing on well and the flip side of that is is what we're after is some basic numbers and making sure it pulls up here now the other thing you can do knowing this would be is is is what we talked about when we as a symbol in it that we may need to take and uh you know try to get some more low end out of the camshaft possibly know to try and bring this number down because this thing's still playing up here it's kind of what I wanted it's fine the number eight was going to be conservative wasn't it on that phone it just kept going I couldn't I mean it was like it was I was like it was going up so fast I don't know I understood but I mean it took them so slow down the load factor or the release part of it but see the thing is when I'm loaded this thing up here on on the low side and I I can't get I gotta get it up so I can load it because so let's start it back up again [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] frequent report right now wow I hear a lot more out there so by the sounds of it out there you ain't gaining power till the doll it's all no your your dog dog dog well it is 6500 or 6 000 yeah well I don't know how you'd slow that down 76. and you're still building 599 and you're still good God it's still making power a lot too I mean 7 400 it's 570 that's picking up like what's that 10 12 horsepower within 200 RPM I don't I don't I don't know how you slow down the top well you mean for that on that yet to go up from there you don't want to free run it past that I mean you know basically free grab it I mean as you get 8 000. with a load on it you're gonna kill it in the bottom oh yeah I know but that's why you know when it started out slow it has much load on well I didn't want to let off of it because I needed that and I thought about actually taking I couldn't turn the trigger off I'd like to slow the motor down on the D cell valve on the water so it would have gave more to it but I needed to go more numbers actually pulled harder and harder and harder and harder it'd just sit there and stall them no but what I'm saying is this is so on the water valve on the set I go two turns in this bar well I'm going back up two turns so I let less water on the beginning and then turn the meter off on the top so the meter down steady 88 pounds so go run the egts over so you run the screen over here turn this over yeah this is this is about a step and a half above dolls yeah it is all on the low 1000s so it's plenty Rich yeah it's plenty rich I mean it's really about what do we want to try and make out of it I'd like to see it go to eight I want to see where it stops making power do you listen to it out there goes it's crazy we're gonna be like them fire Punk guys I'm gonna do it but the Boost yeah I think I think I would like to see what it would do if we if we played with the camshaft model what torque number did it make that time yeah they're still about the same I think I think I understood it isn't a lot of torque it's just a lot of horsepower because that's what he's trying to accomplish is like minimum torque yeah it's not moving I think it's minimum sport I mean it's not a big cubic inch whether it's for the torque I would think so unfortunately yeah only 420 foot-pounds of torque I mean but but the horsepower out there I think we're gonna try to help you to get that probably around 460 to 470. on to work because if not I think it's going to kill it too much down low I I I I like I mean what did the last motor make torque wise I think they usually are fairly equal so it's they make 5.7 it may probably 500 pounds a tour yeah that's who I was there that's what I was thinking like with this stuff is is kind of equal to a degree if it's set up right screw it at you it's only 76 yeah all right but it's just how fast it's accelerating it's I'm telling you I've always I'm normally on that side of the building so I listen from that side of the building and it is day and night different sounding from out there than it is in here yeah I mean it sounds a lot worse out there where's your butt it could be a bit much if you want to advance the cam timing a little bit I'm cool with trying it see what it does I'll try to I don't know how much you want to do yeah I mean I I think it would I think it's a good idea yeah and I we suspicious me to do that and it's easy to do we just got to take the water out of it there was a that was eight hell yeah foreign [Music] still climbing characters [Music] 607 at what 8 200 200. so so quit making power in 8200 that dropped off 604. you're right you're exactly right that's that's exactly what you want yeah that's exactly what you want what was the torque number it seemed like it didn't lay there as long I don't know 4 30 this year 4 32 435 435 yeah so where was it before 420 so 420 422 I believe so I picked up what 11 pounds and 429 434 is the highest 434 35. that helped both ends yeah you're gonna film about that's what I'm here for now tell me does it sound different outside than it does in here it does I told you had a good thing or a bad thing hey it may sounded good you know out there I didn't know how high you went out there because I didn't sound like 8 000. at all it was eight thousand eighty two fifties four so now you know if it's making Power 8 200. with that cam timing yeah which I certainly don't need to rev it any higher than that so what do you guys change in between those last two runs so we Advanced the cam timing from a 114 and a half center line to a 112 right right and it picked up 15 oh like 10 15 foot-pounds of 12. 13 pound-feet of torque and then but the arc the the horsepower stayed it stayed pretty good and then it it made 607 that's 8200 so it picked up it was what 590. well it lasted 598 so 17 horsepower I picked up my back by advancing at two degrees well plus we grabbed it a little higher right love it God's engine it's truck done let's go thank you Bob it's been a pleasure now again I know it's been a pain oh it's just it's part of what I do yeah yeah it's what I do and stay out well you're saying where's the next one at right where's the next one at you learned a lot with this one though you learned more oh I learned every day every day I I'm a dumb guy you might be fine I'm just a common guy trying to have a little fun and learn me too you know that's what I tell everybody I'm just a normal person I am not I'm less of a normal person yeah as Tustin would say everybody else wants to do it because it's fun it's me I guess we can take a ticket [Applause] it's meat oil temp and the fuel thing that's so weird I don't understand that I I don't know I would be curious to see some engineer explain why that the 85 maybe one of the YouTube experts in the comments could answer why ethanol or alcohol fuel creates more oil temperature now I ran a couple engines in here on alcohol and I've now ever experienced it or seen it to the dramatic part that I seen it yesterday with your dad yeah and he was quick I would have thought that it makes it cooler I would too or nothing you know but I really like running racing fuel on the dyno and I was told and by some other Dino guys that they they don't like alcohol because it keeps the cylinder too cold for sealing the Rings and making a good job and I would agree and uh because Plus for me it's a sound I like the sound of music it's crisp but that's on what I'm used to so I think the Ring's fully sealed up when we had it on me no I had some oils in the spark plugs well yeah and I even wondered if that wasn't some water left over fuel for when your dab was not flooding it but you know and the trick part of getting started because everyone's like every engine there's a trick of how many pumps you put on an engine to get it started yeah and so um I mean there's even more power on the table there what were the egts yeah we didn't really looked at them how about it cleaned up they raised so we were at 12 almost 1200 degrees at 82 40. so we're pretty close we're pretty close I mean you're a thousand 1100 down here so actually that cam timing that key in timing kind of helped the they put a little more compression into that cylinder yeah and we were kind of blowing through it you know and I think we had to you know the timing might have been Advanced a little bit on the last ones yeah but I don't think it would have made a whole lot of difference other than some small numbers but I mean every day I run one of these this thing I learn and it's not the most latest model high-tech piece but it seems to give consistent data to where we can evaluate how good it performs and that's all you need I don't care The Big Numbers the Little Numbers if it's a number that it really sounds good and makes the number you think it should on this Dyno because everyone's different yeah yeah and and yeah remember it's the small cubic inch it is curious and see how it's done you know what I mean we're gonna work on his motor for his truck yeah imagine his 421 with a big cam in those heads yeah that's probably going to make near 700. and truly this was probably the close to the smallest small the the most horsepower small block that I've had here but it sounded different and I told you that yeah I guess my number was a little higher than the rest of you because I thought it sounded a little meaner than the rest of them I've heard in here biscuit cams trick for heads man well I'll tell you what that that uh those heads are huge I mean those things can pull some air and it's uh they're laundry at 4 15. or my 13 degree yeah or that too yeah good stuff I mean 607 horsepower out of 372 is pretty damn good and this and that's a turbo cam it's not an all motor this is conservative Dino I mean you I think you put it on a lot of other ones it's going to make 650. yeah you know I think I got my combination a little better on that pole because it was a little more steadier I didn't think it took off as near as bad but now even you know what it done it changed on breath and that's where I've been telling you all along cam timing can really change how you can tune well today was a great success and I'm extremely happy with everything it's given me a lot of motivation to go and work on the S10 I've got a lot that needs done you know we've got that k-member coming we've got suspension parts coming I'm going to go ahead and get the harnesses coming for Holley EFI we're gonna have to rewire it and it's going to be an all winter project but that motor hearing it in there today is going to give us a lot of motivation to get it done and get it running okay and make it right it's going to be right and it's going to be far better than it ever has been it's gonna be pretty much a purpose-built street race vehicle at this point it's not a I'm an underdog anymore um you know 3 300 pounds and I got you know stock this and stock that you know we're doing something now and that engine made almost 100 more horsepower than the 406 did just on the motor with less cubic inches it's gonna scream it really is and I'm extremely excited to see how it runs with some boost a big shout out to iski racing cams and big shout out to trick flow Crower Wiseco without those companies I couldn't have done this there's just no way no other way to put it those guys have given us a lot of support throughout this whole build and um very grateful for that big shout out to Uncle Bob done it without Uncle Bob for sure I mean we've had so many roadblocks along the way to building this motor I've lost track of how many roadblocks we've hit just we've had like three different engine blocks and different variations of rotating assemblies and okay I'm sure just yeah camshafts I mean it's just seemed like if you'd get three things right one thing would be wrong and then you couldn't get the right part to make it all come together in time and I think you know a lot of it was probably having to do with if I had something together you know obviously I bought that 408 put in the truck just to make the mega cash station I thought I'd be good you know that engine will last at least a month no it lasted two passes really it probably hurt the Lifter on the first pass but you know everything was leading and leading up to me not going to that race and I was fighting it and fighting it fighting it and eventually we just said let's just take our time and I think it's it's starting to pay off um not being in a rush getting stuff done the right way you know those lifters that was another thing that we had to learn you know grooving those lifters just a lot of stuff we've learned along the way through this whole deal and I'm super happy with LA everything turned out you happy Bob I'm tickled to death I'm happy so with that I'm gonna close this video out thank you guys for watching appreciate it see you next time [Music] foreign [Music]
