what's up y'all Shuffle and Welcome to our first region guide for darkest dungeon 2. today we'll be talking about the sprawl and so in this video I'll talk about the enemies what they can do and I'll go over the boss of the lair and alongside all of that I will be giving you tips on how to deal with them and good Heroes to bring there are some important trademarks that the sprawl possesses this is usually common with all of their enemies or the majority of them and they are burn damage go figure the place that's on fire does a lot of fire damage there are a lot of accuracy issues so the enemies can blind you and they can also gain Dodge there's a little bit of movement from a couple of the enemies as well and finally the enemies aren't too tanky in the sprawl they have rather modest amounts of HP outside of their Dodge but the biggest mechanic is ignite not all of the Fanatics have ignite but the ones that do are very dangerous when it happens one what ignite does for the Fanatics is it gives them a little bit of HP and then it also unlocks a bunch of new moves for them usually these are Juiced up versions of what they already have a couple things to remember about ignite also is that they cannot do it on turn one except for the emulatist and her lady ship which we'll talk about in a sec and for the Fanatics that can use it it is a free action which means they get to attack immediately as far as I understand it there isn't really a pattern to when the Fanatics choose to use ignite it's just as long as it's not turn one they have a chance to do it and sometimes they don't and sometimes they will the first enemy we'll talk about is the Whipper these are pretty much the foot soldiers of the sprawl they're more annoying than anything else but they can put out a decent amount of damage their unignited moves are very tame so there's whip crack which can be used from the front it does a little bit of damage two to five without any other Buffs next is whip trip which is kind of an annoying move because it pulls your people around in your party and then it can immobilize them so you can be locked somewhere that you don't want to be and this is normally their most common attack they have one more attack called fiery haze from the back which blinds you and this is pretty unthreatening but the most dangerous and annoying attack that the Whipper has is called infernal Taskmaster this is a move that hits your entire party for only a couple damage but all the secondary effects on it are pretty loaded it can inflict stress it can inflict burn and it can lower your burn resist while the Whipper isn't too threatening you don't have to kill it first you do want to kill it relatively quickly especially if it ignites the next enemy we'll talk about is the flare this one is pretty brittle it doesn't have a lot of HP the base is 12 but it also spawns with Dodge the mere fact that it gets one humble Dodge token is usually enough to deter most players from not even trying to attack it however I would say that you should try and ignore the Dodge or get it off as fast as possible and kill this thing as quick as you can the reason is it goes down in two hits it doesn't do too much damage or really anything when it's not ignited but once it ignites it starts putting out a lot of damage there's a lot of damage over time it gets reposed it gets dodged it gets all these other secondary effects that are just a pain in the butt to deal with so you really should down this first if it's there there's not nearly as much Nuance to the flare as there is the Whipper because the Whipper has a couple utility attacks and the cleave and all that the flare just does damage everything it does usually hits your front line it does burn sometimes bleed stress or blind and then it gets you either Dodge or a post and since these can be two tats like I said before they should die first next is the sacrificial which is a very straightforward enemy all it does is try to slowly walk to the front with a giant bomb and then show you the new sun which has a ton of damage when the bomb goes off it does between 6 and 14 damage at a modest 10 crit rate while doing a bunch of burn damage and stress obviously this kills the sacrificial but you know what he did his job the sacrificial spawns with two Block Plus tokens which makes it a huge Target for damage over time like poison darts since it doesn't have a lot of HP outside of the two block tokens really you can just hit this with like poison darts and play Grenade once and then just leave it alone and it will melt I guess pun intended to the damage over time before it reaches the front one thing to be careful of though is the immolatus can destroy corpses to heal its teammates this is important for two reasons one it can heal the sacrificial before it dies so it can actually get another turn to keep walking and the other is if it destroys a course in front of the sacrificial sometimes they will end up in rank 1 and blow up before you realize it next is the shaman another enemy that's not really that threatening until it ignites unlike the flare it doesn't spawn in with any Dodge or block like the sacrificial so it's a very easy target to kill first if you just need to get rid of something I wouldn't say they are high priority targets but they're also easy targets so if you are spamming attacks that hit multiple ranks like flashing daggers play Grenade Abyssal artillery and stuff like that it'll go down very fast before it ignites it only has two attacks it can blind you and Deal One stress and then it can shoot you for a little bit of damage once it ignites however it becomes a very strong support unit the main skill it has is called blazing Aegis which will heal one of its allies it'll give it self to dodge as well as heal itself and then it will guard that Target there are some pretty nasty combinations that this can pull off such as guarding an ignited flare or a her lady ship or pretty much any other huge threat in the sprawl it's other signature ignited attack is called burning beads which it can use from Rank 4 thankfully so sometimes you'll see a shaman in Rank 4 that will use Aegis and then skip its next turn because that is nothing else it can do again nothing super threatening just more of an annoyance which is why I don't usually Target them first next we'll talk about the signature enemy of the sprawl all the Fanatics are signature enemies but the amylatus is the one that really stands out among them she is both a support unit as well as a respectable damage dealer so usually she should be your first Target unless there's a flare the main reason the immolatus is so threatening is her signature buff called The Fire Rises shout outs to The Dark Knight Rises we see you Bane and this move instantly ignites any other fanatic that can be ignited even if the enemy can't be ignited though it still gives them Dodge plus as well as strength interesting enough she cannot be ignited herself which means all of her attacks are available to her from the start of combat outside of the buff with Fire Rises she has funeral prior which heals the other enemies on the field and destroys a corpse so this is important if sacrificial is there just flaming lasso which hits the back two members of your party for a little bit of damage as well as inflicting stress burn and blind then she has a very strong single Target hit called Firefly which melts your face does three to seven damage at 10 crit as well as inflicting one stress and three burn even though I talk about killing the flare first just because it's so easy it is definitely still a good idea to kill the amylatus as soon as possible and if you want to kill her first go ahead the elite version of a sprawl enemy is the amylatus and is called her lady ship she functions mostly the same to the amylatus except she does a bit more damage and she has one new attack that is called combustion this attack was seldom seen until a recent buff made it so she's more likely to use it and it has a few conditions first of all you have to be on fire and you have to be comboed if both of these conditions are met then she can use combustion combustion does 200 of the remaining burn damage and then removes all of the combo and fire effects hit fighter is just a big dude that's on fire and he likes to punch the heck out of your team he only has two moves they are called Pummel and jawbreaker and jawbreaker has a cooldown so he can't use it back to back there is one other thing that's interesting about the pit fighter before we talk about the attacks and that is the accelerant buff hit fighter will use accelerant on turn two and it gives itself an increasing speed and burn damage applied buff so that means the longer it's alive the harder it starts to hit and the faster it's going it only has two attacks there's Pummel that hits for an okay amount of damage and then there's jawbreaker which has a cooldown of one action so it can't use it back to back but usually it uses it once every turn because pit fighter has a lot of HP it's pretty tough to bring it down first when you're fighting it as an enemy so normally I would recommend killing the other two enemies that come alongside pit fighter and then just doing your best to weather the onslaught and keep your team in formation if it starts using jawbreaker it is also worth noting that thankfully pit fighter cannot ignite now it's time to talk about the boss of the sprawl the librarian who can be found in the great library after two waves of phonetics and as a boss he's relatively straightforward but there's a little bit of nuance and we'll talk about that now the first thing you'll notice when fighting Librarian Is that he spawns in the back of the enemy formation in front of him will be three stacks of books and the HP values on the stacks will range from 15 to 30 or 45. the books are the most important part to understanding this fight and so librarian will use its first action every single round to use something called page burner what page burner does is it reduces a stack of books by one tier it doesn't actually do 15 damage to the books so if you accidentally or intentionally hit a stack of books for a little bit of damage you're not going to mess yourself up for the rest of the fight thankfully once librarian has destroyed all of the book Stacks it will ignite this is important to understand that there is a distinction if it reaches rank 1 it doesn't ignite then but only when there are no more stacks of books this means that librarian has an enrage timer if you're familiar with that from MMOs and the like where if you do not kill librarian relatively quickly it will ignite and then you will die instead very quickly the HP values on the books are randomized but on average you have until about turn seven for librarian two ignite so you want to kill him in six turns librarian doesn't have a ton of HP either but he does like to spawn a lot of Dodge and blind your team so if the RNG is a bit bad against you you may not actually kill him until he ignites librarian alternates between a couple of attacks it does page burner on its first action every turn which deals a little bit of stress and then after that it uses mandatory reading which does a modest amount of damage between four and eight and it can stress you as well as burn you the next move it has is pretty annoying and that that is called smokestack thankfully you can't use this back to back it's got a two turn cooldown and what smokestack does is it blinds the target gives them two blind tokens it vulnerables them and then librarian gets dodged this can be devastating if it hits your damage dealers because damage is so critical in this fight the next attack that librarian has that is actually pretty cool and interesting is called categorize at first this may seem like a random shuffle on your party but actually what it does is it organizes your party in right to left alphabetically by their class name it has a massive cooldown of eight actions and you will not see this more than two times a fight normally in fact the way the fight plays out I don't think he can use it a third time because he's usually too far up by the time it would happen what's nice about categorize is because it does alphabetize your party some of your back row characters that like to stay in the back row like vessel or plague doctor usually stay in the back where it can be kind of devastating is for your mid-ranks and your front line characters so if you're running something like leper Highwayman grave robber and plague doctor guess what uncategorize your leper goes straight to rank 3 which means that if you're going to fight librarian make sure that you understand how your team is going to alphabetize when he uses categorize and that you have a plan for it the final attack we'll talk about is called burning bright this is librarian's signature super cleave move it hits your entire party and it applies Burn by itself it doesn't do a lot of damage but considering how many actions librarian gets and how much burn it's already throwing at you it does start to stack up when he's doing it every couple rounds one feature to also note is that librarian applies three extra burn damage over three turns like his trophy when he hits you with a critical hit so if he's popping off and scoring crits then the damage really starts to ramp up the final thing to note about burning bright is that when librarian reaches the front and he ignites he will only use burning bright even though it doesn't do a ton of damage per hit the fact that he's using it three times a turn means that if he does get to the front and ignite your party is going to get wiped in about two rounds and that's being generous even though librarian heals for 24 HP when he does ignite you don't automatically lose when it happens but you need to pretty much have the fight done by the time it does happen he actually has one more attack that I forgot to mention and that is called burnout so if librarian reaches rank one but there are still book Stacks alive so he can't ignite he will use something called burnout which is going to send him back as far as he can go in the enemy formation give himself a bunch of Dodge and then burn whoever it hits one look at librarian stats is enough to tell you that the boss itself is move immune you're not gonna be able to move it with any of your skills but the books are not move immune so the way you get librarian to the front is to knock the books behind him the easiest attack to do this with is leper's Purge now that we know what librarian does let's talk about how to beat him the easiest and most consistent way is to get some blight damage on your team go figure the starter team unusual suspects is pretty good for this and just Hammer them as much as you can as he makes his way forward there are other things you can use as well like big single Target damage hits that are not damaged over time such as iron Swan or burning stars but in the case of something like burning Stars occultist runs the risk of getting blinded by smokestack on the turn he's going to shoot it or librarian gets dodged so for that reason some of the big attacks that either have big cooldowns or need to power up and stuff aren't as ideal for this fight you just want consistent damage that you can throw out every single turn another strategy if your team has a lot of Frontline damage is to try and shove the books behind Librarians so you're going to need something like Purge or Rampart in order to get this done I don't personally like the strategy as much because you're still dealing with all the normal stuff like the blinds and Librarians Dodge when he does get up front as well as the random resist that the book can have so if given a choice I would much rather recommend that you use a consistent range damage strategy that just keeps hitting him as he makes his way forward if it's your first run or you're very early in your profile and you need to fight librarian I would recommend using grave robber and upgrading her poison darts with your Mastery point if you're using the starter team unusual suspects dismus also has the added benefit of being able to combo librarian with his repost which gives gray robber a huge 50 critical chance boost if she hits a combo Target with poison darts if the blight is able to stick from poison darts and it crits without any modifiers I believe it's 29 damage you get 9 for the on-hit and then 20 for the blight so this is really good to kill librarian with some other things that can help when you're fighting librarian are combat items so there is a burn resist count about item called a blade of powders that can be really good anything that cures burn can be good healing salves can be good blind cures are very helpful and we actually can't sleep on throwable combat items so things like bear trap even though they aren't likely to really do anything when they hit librarian the fact that you throw it gets rid of your own blind token and it gets rid of Dodge on librarian at the same time so this can be really helpful another General strategy to have for Librarian Is to have some kind of tank that can either guard or taunt the reason you want to do this is not only can the tank absorb more damage from mandatory reading in the crits and stuff you want the tank to soak up one of the smokestack attacks so your other damage dealers don't have to deal with the blind that's really all you need someone that can take the smokestack hits a plan for the damage usually range DPS maybe some combat items and understand how categorized is going to alter your party if you can solve those issues usually librarian isn't too much of a danger to wrap up the video we'll talk about the best overall Heroes to take to the sprawl most of these are the starter team go figure I don't know if that's intentional or not but they do fit pretty well and match up against the sprawl enemies first is Highwayman since a lot of the enemies in the sprawl get Dodge he can get his upgraded tracking shot to block Dodge gain for a couple rounds which is nice he has repost which can help deal with the Dodge again as well as applying combo for your teammates and it gives them a bit of reach to hit things he normally might have trouble with depending on your build he has some other added benefits as well since there is strength gain and Dodge plus and repost that possibly show up in the sprawl if he has a lot of his unlocks he can use highway robbery to steal them or destroy them that's always nice to have and then finally he has Tay game Take Aim gets rid of the blinds it gives them a little bit of Dodge which is nice and if he has crit tokens he can usually one or two shot most the enemies that aren't pit fighter if someone else can apply combo during the librarian fight he has a really good chance of stunning him with an upgraded pistol shot too the next character we'll talk about is grave robber she's really straightforward for the sprawl it's mostly just the blight damage especially for the boss and the ability to control corpses so they don't get to use funeral pyre and heal themselves she can also give herself a lot of Dodge or speed depending on what you have unlocked and even stealth so she's a very reliable damage dealer if you use poison darts next character is again from the starter team we're going to talk about plague doctor plague doctor's Main benefits are being able to cure burn and she can stack blight pretty well she doesn't start with play Grenade but it's one of her first unlocks so if you're able to get play Grenade then librarian becomes much easier and something that's a bit underutilized is she starts with ounce of prevention which can do a really good job of blocking the constant burn damage from the enemies especially if it's upgraded it's even really good in the librarian fight because librarian gets three actions per turn meaning that your ounce of prevention essentially is stopping nine attacks worth of damage over time across those three turns that it's up one other really nice thing about plague doctor 2 is when you're fighting librarian categorize usually puts her in the back of the party so she's not that big of a risk to take the final really good hero to take to the sprawl is Bounty Hunter and it's not because Bounty Hunter is so just naturally strong it does help when you're fighting any of the enemies here but Bounty Hunter's best thing to do is actually to swap in for Runaway Runaway has a horrible horrible matchup against the sprawl enemies but runaway does want the burn trinkets to come out of the region they can make her very powerful so if you're able to swap her out with Bounty Hunter when she comes back in the party she can get some really strong gear and then carry the rest of the run all right y'all that's gonna do it for this one thanks for watching let me know what you think Down Below in the comments if anything helped you if there's any tips that I missed and feel free to let me know about the video format because I haven't done a region guide like this before so
