The Seed of David: Christ Throughout the Old Testament | Romans 1 | Lesson 6

all right let's go to Romans chapter 1 we are way behind I don't know I can be behind you don't have a schedule but we it's not looking like we're going to get through five chapters by December I can tell you that Romans chapter 1 Romans chapter number 1 let's read starting at verse 1 but we're gonna talk about verse 3 tonight Lord willing Paul a servant of Jesus Christ called to be an apostle separate under the gospel of God which he had promised the for by his prophets in the holy scriptures concerning his son Jesus Christ our Lord which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the spirit of holiness by the resurrection from the dead tonight we want to talk about the first of these two from he is made of the seed of David according to flesh and then Thursday night Lord when to the second of these he's thus declared to be the Son of God with power so as he David's son as he God's son is he man is he divine and the answer of course is yes but we'll go back to our last lesson as we move forward into this lesson verse 1 Paul said I'm called to preach the gospel and verse 3 says that gospel concerns his son Jesus Christ then he says I'm preaching that gospel based on the scriptures verse 2 and those scriptures concern his son Jesus Christ so let's just say something as we head in this fall season as exciting doing the bulletin and looking at the the college football games where we preach in and the public ministry each week and and and all of that as I traveled and church the church I am in in three days and sometimes five days I am trying to get a church interested in serving the Lord and and I'm not saying this be critical of any pastor in a church I'm just telling you the norm is that serving God is going to church and the pastor is doing everything he can just to get people to go to church and we got people go to work and then go to Bible School and then study for tests and then go out knocking on doors and then go to Bible School and study for a test and then and then go out on a street ministry it's just a blessing to have so many people so devoted to reaching the world with the gospel I mean that's a it's a great blessing but I just I want to I will say this to remind all of us to remind all of us if you are going to go to Daytona Beach on a Saturday night or someone's house on a Sunday afternoon or stand in front of a football stadium 1-1 for autumn Saturday afternoon what you tell those people should be concerning his son Jesus Christ it shouldn't be social issues it shouldn't be political issues it shouldn't be what they're wearing or how they comb their hair or whether or not the whether or not you like or don't like their tattoos or we should be telling people about Jesus Christ you've got one minute if they slow down you've got five minutes when they have finished hearing what you've got to say they should know how to be saved and if we have if what we tell them is not concerning Jesus Christ we've not done the job let's just make sure that our door knocking our street preaching our personal work with lost people let's make sure it concerns Jesus Christ you know this we joke about that last election had we gone from door to door and given out literature for one candidate or another and those people went and voted for our candidate and died and went to hell we failed them if you're gonna give them something to read you want to give them something tell them how to be saved Jesus Christ same way if you're gonna talk to him I've got listen I got views on everything I get views on things I don't even know anything about I just tell me what it is and I'll give you a opinion on it I have no idea what's going on North Korea and you don't either if what they say is happening over there is happening now I mean here's your leaders what they say all options are on the table you know what that means that means they don't have the slightest idea what to do or how to do it that's that's what that means that means if somebody if God Almighty would come down here and tell me what to do I'd sure appreciate it cuz I don't know what to do so I can give you my opinion on on that you give me your opinion on that but nobody's going to go to heaven or go to hell based on what you think about North Korea so if we're riding in the car let's talk about that amongst ourselves too we're saved but when we get out of the car to talk to lost people let's give them the gospel telling about Jesus the Bible concerns Jesus Christ darlin I know y'all know that but it's just good to keep saying those things all right so what we're told here is if the Holy Scriptures verse 2 concern His Son Jesus Christ then as we've said many times and want to keep saying the cross was not an afterthought and the New Testament church was not a new idea what Paul was sent to preach concerned the same thing the Old Testament Scriptures concerned the work of God and the saving of sinners now let's read some verses quickly together Luke chapter 24 Luke 24 and all of these verses we're going to look at the first few minutes here tonight had to do with the Old Testament Scriptures teaching what happened on the cross what happened in the garden three days later and what is happening today with Christ saving sinners through his finished work wants you to see this we read some of these the other night won't hurt to read him again Luke 24 verse 25 then he said unto them o fools and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets spoken ought not Christ have suffered these things and to enter into his glory and beginning at Moses and all the prophets that's Genesis through Malachi he expounded unto them in all the scriptures that's Micah that's Amos that's lamentations that Psalms that's Kings that's chronicles in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself I see that so when we read the Old Testament it's not just law it's not just Israel it's not just Commandments it's not just history there's plenty in there about Christ on the cross and Christ on the throne and don't miss Christ when you read the Old Testament now Luke 24:44 and he said to them these are the words which I spake unto you while I was it yet with you then all things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of Moses and in the prophets and in the Psalms concerning me and that interesting Luke 24 27 concerning himself Luke 24:44 concerning me Romans 1:3 concerning his son Jesus Christ you can't put Paul over here in the Old Testament over there both of their concerns were the death bell the resurrection of Jesus Christ and Christ coming in glory with a crown on his head that's their concern it's always been God's concern couldn't come to John chapter number 5 John chapter 5 Matthew Mark Luke and John John chapter 5 verse 39 when Jesus says these words search the scriptures what scriptures could they have searched nothing but the Old Testament in fact it wouldn't have even been called the Old Testament because there's no New Testament it's just the Scriptures the written word of God search the Scriptures for in them you think you have eternal life and they are they which testify of me now how would you think you get eternal life from that from searching the Old Testament Scriptures well if you would search them properly you would find out that you get it from Jesus Christ not from the law look at verse number 45 same chapter no not think that I will accuse you to the Father there's one that accused with you even Moses in whom he trusts for had ye believed Moses you would have believed me for he rude of me but if you believe not his writings how she believed my words now the only way you could say that Moses wrote of Jesus is if Jesus is the I am Moses never called him Jesus because that's the name of his human incarnation but if he's God manifest in the flesh then what ever wrote about God Moses wrote about God he's writing about Jesus Christ and whatever Moses wrote about a deliverer a redeemer a promise or who keeps promises a king who rules a a scepter a star a a manna coming down from heaven a river of living water all those things are picture forms and representations and promises of Jesus Christ is well that those those men didn't see those things well well people read the New Testament don't see those things but that doesn't mean they're not there come to come to John 3 John chapter 3 just give you one example while we're in the neighborhood we read these verses this morning look at 16 for God so loved the world he gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life but look at 14 and as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness even so must the Son of Man be lifted up that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have eternal life so in the wilderness the people are complaining God sends fiery serpents the Serpent's bite the people they begin to die Moses puts a serpent on a pole and lifts it up and says if you'll look to the serpent on the pole you can live ask your doctor next time you go to his office why his medical insignia is a serpent on a pole ask the nurse and then you can witness to them that's the healing from numbers chapter 21 now anyone who reads that is supposed to understand there's no man amongst all these serpent bitten men who can help me I've got to lift up my eyes to something God provided and I hope if I will believe God enough to lift up my eyes as God told me to do God will heal me and I won't die now that's all through the Old Testament so when Jesus Christ comes into this world and is lifted up on a cross they all should have got it and if they don't it's not God's fault for 39 books he said this is what I'm gonna do this is what I'm gonna do this is what I'm gonna do this is what I'm going to do then for three and a half years he walked this earth and said this is what I'm gonna do this is what I'm gonna do this is what I'm gonna do and then he did it and then when you wrote when he accomplished it then he sent men out to tell him this is what he did this is what he did this is what he did this is what he did if people go to hell it's cuz they want to can't blame God so what about those people those other countries you mean the people using their cell phones to watch basketball games and dirty movies they could take that same cellphone find out how you get saved if they wanted to and you can you could make that argument back in the day when you got people sitting on a hut somewhere with a with a satellite dish in the middle of their village and they're sitting there watching Dancing with the Stars don't tell me it's God's fault if they go to hell all right like we better press on acts 17 acts 17 so Paul's gonna go out and preach something brand new something nobody's ever heard of before something that's not in the Bible anywhere because it's Paul's gospel we'll get to that later in Romans 1 in case you're planning on quitting before then Paul said according to my gospel about three verses in the neighborhood of saying my god well if Paul had his own private gospel then he must have had his own private God or you're just pulling a verse out of context to argue with acts 17 so here's Paul and the Bible says in verse number 1 now when they had passed through em pitiless and Apollonia those are the two starting guards for a football team oh those are talents they came they came to Thessalonica where was a synagogue of the Jews and Paul as his manner was when went in unto them and three sabbath days reason with them out of the scriptures now what scriptures you think he's using in 56 ad that would be what we call the Old Testament that's what they would have in a synagogue you're not gonna go in a synagogue and pull out a copy of Ephesians even if there was one so he pulls out those scriptures no atch opening and alleging what's the opening their scriptures correct open alleging that Christ must needs have suffered and risen again from the dead and that this Jesus whom I preach unto you is Christ so whatever Paul preached was around before Paul wrote it because Paul preached it from scriptures that were sitting in a synagogue before Christ came into the world and those Old Testament Scriptures are sufficient to prove to an unsaved Jew that Jesus died and was buried and rose again and he's that and that he's their Messiah and their Savior that's the Old Testament you want to suck concern it's concerning it's concerning Jesus Christ every bit of it not not the new part all of it it's all about Jesus Christ look at Acts chapter 10 Acts chapter 10 let's go back to 45 ad because somebody else in acts 17 Paul already written God you know Galatians and okay maybe did maybe didn't but he hadn't written anything in 45 ad just got saved in Chapter 9 here's chapter 10 and verse number well this is this is Peter here what's what Peter has say for but Paul just got saved chapter 9 here's Peter in chapter 10 going to Gentiles said to Paul nanny boo-boo I beat you to him verse 39 we are witnesses of all things which he did both inland as Jews in Jerusalem whom they slew and hanged on a tree there's Jesus death him God raised up the third day and showed him openly there's his resurrection not all people done two witnesses chosen before God even to us who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead and he commanded us to preach unto the people and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the judge of the quick and the dead to him give all the prophets witness [Music] that's Peter preaching from the Old Testament prophets and what's he preaching that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins you what Peter preached before he met Paul the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins through believing and he preached it to Gentiles and Jews from the Old Testament next time you read through your Old Testament you shouldn't just read through it you should read through it and Mark everything in there it's about Jesus Christ and you'll mark most of it he said it's all about him start to finish look at acts 13 acts 13 verse 27 acts 13 27 for they that dwell at Jerusalem and their rulers because they knew him not nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every Sabbath day how fulfilled them in condemning him though they found no cause of death in him yet desired a pilot he should be slain when they'd fulfilled all that was written of him they took him down from the tree and laid him in a Sepulchre but God raised him from the dead you're just set when those Jews crucified Jesus Christ and when Jesus Christ rose from the dead it was a fulfillment of the scriptures they had been reading all their lives so I'm telling you that the Old Testament is as much a testimony on behalf of Jesus Christ as is the New Testament it is hallelujah a whole lot easier to see Jesus in the Old Testament with the light of the New Testament and the indwelling Holy Spirit but that doesn't mean it's not there - two examples here when when you were a child maybe your your mind maybe you didn't have the problems I had had are you kidding maybe but there were all the things in my room at night they couldn't be under the bed because my bed was on the floor my brother had a bed and I had a mattress that you pulled out from under his bed nice so so things didn't get under my bed but they got under his bed which was right next to my bed I mean I'm on the floor and there they are and there were things in the closet and there were things outside the window and some of those things would come in the window and and some of those things would come down the hall and you couldn't call for help because of those monsters or wolves or rabbits with teeth and knives and anything if you if you yelled and woke dad up he'd say you think that's bad wait till I get there and but my mom bless her heart she would come down the hall and she would turn on the light and she would say see there's nothing here now the light there's still some debate she said the light didn't make those things go away it just proved they weren't there I'm still not so sure about that and I think I think at least some of them were there but anyway so that's the purpose of turning on the light if there's nothing there it shows you there's nothing there now that the flip side of that is if you if you go in a cave or down deep in the sea or something like that or you go out in in the in the yard at night and you turn on a light or shine a light that doesn't make something magically appear there it just illuminates what is already there so that you can see it it was always there you just couldn't see it until that light came and and I would say to you that's people think there's there's some salvation by works in the Old Testament shine some New Testament light on it you'll see that was never there and people who can't see the death brother is rich in Jesus Christ the Old Testament use Paul's flashlight not Paul use his flashlight and see what he showed you was in the Old Testament this woman woke her husband up one night and she said you you got to you got to get the ball back go down as a burglar down there and so he got out of bed and he got the ball but he went downstairs and turned on the light and sure enough there was a guy in the kitchen and he put the bat down and held out his hand he said I'm so glad to meet you my wife's been hearing you for 20 years one time there really was somebody down there so at our house it's like my wife will wake up so one of the dogs barking at they never stop barking go back to sleep you just you just heard him this time a leaf falls they bark the wind blows they bark a squirrel sneezes and they bark what do you mean one of the one of the dogs barking out so anyway the New Testament there are truths in the New Testament that are new hallelujah but Christ dying and rising from the dead and Christ being the king and Christ being the Savior and Christ being the Lord that's that's in 39 books before he's born in fact look at this first Corinthians 15 first Corinthians chapter 15 verse number 1 moreover brethren I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you okay here we go Paul's gospel everybody ready for Paul's gospel that Paul preached verse three tried to live it unto you first of all that which I also received how that Christ died for our sins wait according to the scriptures and that he was buried and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures so the gospel Paul preached is not contrary to the Old Testament Scriptures it is in accord with the Old Testament Scriptures praise the Lord in my library I've got a little a lot of books here and there about things about Jesus Christ in the Old Testament but your or so ago finally got a set of books I I had one of these books for so long a B Simpson he's the man that brought together the Christian Missionary Alliance he set out to study Christ in the Old Testament and ended up writing almost 30 volumes on Christ in the Old Testament that's he just he's everywhere he's everywhere back there in that book so so the New Testament concerns Jesus Christ the Old Testament concern Jesus Christ sincere men teach that when one dispensation failed God tried another and that one failed and then he tried another until there was no way left but to send his son that's not so the Scriptures showed that it was God's concern from the beginning to send his son to be our Savior thank the Lord for it liberals and infidels teach that Peter Paul in the early church leaders invented Christianity and hashed out its doctrines through the decades or centuries after Jesus lived on earth nothing could be further from the truth they preached as fulfilled what God had promised hallelujah you know before the Apostolic age fishermen grandmothers and common people saw hope of salvation through faith in the promised Savior let me read you some verses quickly Philip findeth Nathanael and saith unto Him we have found him of whom Moses in the law and the prophets did write Jesus of Nazareth the son of Joseph that's John 1 how about this one this is Paul writing to Timothy and that from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures which are able to make the wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus those are scriptures Timothy's grandmother had they had to predate to the coming of Jesus Christ but Timothy's grandmother figured out that salvation was through faith in Jesus Christ from the scripture she had before Jesus Christ came Philip found Nathanael and said you know the one we've been reading about in the scriptures he's right down the road so it was there it was there to be seen when Nicodemus the rule of the Pharisees met Jesus by night and Jesus said you're a master in Israel and you don't know these things how can you not know about being born of the Spirit he rebuked him for not knowing what people think you couldn't have known but you could you just had to believe the Scriptures people today in Baptist churches they read the scriptures they don't believe them you are you say well I don't know if anybody know that for sure well what do you been reading so it's one thing to look at words on a page it's another thing to let them go down in your heart and believe what they say all right so let's go back to Romans 1/3 Romans 1/3 it is so hard to get through this I thought we'd make make up so much time tonight all right so watch how this breaks down we will diagram a sentence that wasn't that fun how many remember diagramming sense at all is so much fun you know everybody's different you just got it listen you got to be who you are for Jesus you can't be who somebody else is I'm telling you right now I had I had a teacher in the in the ninth grade and the 10th grade and the eleventh grade three different teachers and then one in in my freshman year of college who sat down and said look here's how it works this line is a and this line is B and this line is ax and a minus B times X divided by C and they do that whole thing they say see how simple that is not one time in my life did I ever have the slightest idea what they were talking about I'm dystonia to this day I don't have a clue our kids homeschooled and and the smiling happy teacher would right on the board and and and explain the basics of algebra and I would say that's the most I'm gonna watch it with them cuz I'm old enough now I can probably get this it just it just it hit my eyeballs and just fell right to the ground I could I could not get that and and I get in an English class and the teacher say who wants to diagram this sentence and I go up and I diagram the sentence she's sitting out now when did you learn the parts of speech so I don't know the parts of speech but that just has to go there and that has to go there miss Toni everybody's got something they know how to do and a whole bunch of something they don't know how to do so just find out what you can do and hope you can make a living at it and just leave Lea leave the rest of it alone cuz uh-uh you people get math I admire you I really do I I just it makes no sense to me at all glad this Bibles not a secret numeric code alright so watch this concerning his son Jesus Christ our Lord under that which was made of the seed of David what in what respect according to the flesh semicolon so set that aside but we're not finished yet and declared to be the son of God in what way with power where's the proof according to spirit of holiness by the resurrection from the dead so here's the interesting thing he was made the seed of David which means there was a time when he wasn't the seed of David but he was see he was but he was not the seed of David he just was he was declared to be the son of God he was never made the son of God so what you have is you have a person who was always the son of God we're going to declare that to you but he was made that one was the son of God was made the seed of David and we're going to prove that to you same person this is why when one person reads the Bible and says well I believe Jesus Christ was a man well of course he was well somebody else reads the Bible so I believe Jesus Christ was God well of course he was and there's ample proof for both and the JW missis's deity because all they see is his humanity and and and some of the the systematic theologians they so emphasize his deity that they strike out on everything regarding his humanity but he's both let's let's try our best to tackle one of them tonight and that's the one here in verse three that he's seed of David the Messiah was promised that he would proceed from the royal family that's found throughout the Old Testament was expected by the Jews the Jews had no expectation that a prophet would be their Messiah they had no expectation that a commoner would be their Messiah they had no expectation that a priest would be their Messiah they knew that Messiah would sit on the throne and that those throne rights only belong to those in the kingly line let's try some of these very very quickly Jeremiah 23 Jeremiah chapter 23 Jeremiah 23 verse number five behold the days come saith the lord that i will raise unto david a righteous branch capital b and a king capital k shall reign and prosper and shall execute judgment and judgment judgment and justice in the earth in his days Judah shall be saved and Israel should dwell safely and this is his name whereby he shall be called the Lord our righteousness okay so are they looking for a savior a deliverer one who can bring peace and prosperity and health and all of that but they're not looking for him to come out of Aaron's line in the temple and they're not looking for him to come in this in the spirit and power of Moses or Elijah as a prophet riding in from the from the wilderness they're looking for a king coming from the family of David that's their expectation that's what they anticipated look at Psalm 132 Psalm 132 Psalm 132 verse 11 the Lord has sworn in truth unto David he will not turn from it of the fruit of thy body well I set upon thy throne that's really interesting wording isn't it now to set that's the place so he's saying I'm going to place someone on your throne of the fruitier loins but but look look again how he said it of the fruit of thy body well I set a king upon thy throne when I set a Sun upon thy throne when I set the air upon thy throne no he said well I set upon thy throne so I just think I'll sent there myself so somehow God is promising David that someone's gonna come from David's line who's gonna sit on his throne but it's not gonna exactly be someone from David's line it's gonna be someone who David called his Lord that's the expectation Matthew 22 New Testament Matthew 22 verse 41 while the Pharisees were gathered together Jesus asked them saying what thinkI of Christ that's Messiah that's Savior that's the Promised One whose son is he they say unto Him the son of David see that so the expectation of all the Jews who understood their scriptures and God's promises they expected Messiah would be the son of David so Romans 1:3 says according to the flesh he was the son of David when it comes to this body of flesh he's David's son he's that fulfillment ha but watch verse 43 he saith unto them how then the David and spirit call him Lord saying the Lord said unto my lord sit thou on my right hand till I make thine enemies thy footstool if David then called him Lord how is he his son we like to bash the Pharisees because they're an easy target if you didn't have the New Testament you didn't have the Holy Spirit if you weren't saved if you weren't in a church that taught you the Bible you couldn't answer that question even smaller than Paula shoulda known that how it is mind boggling for people who have been saved for decades because there's what he said who's gonna sit on the throne we know that answer David's son okay well if he comes from David how is David way back there calling him Lord back there and up here he's going to be his son and the Pharisees all said we're out we're done they just cashed in their chips left the table and went home they're done there they're not that they never placed another bet that they could whip Jesus now you know what the answer to that is if he's the son of God and we're gonna declare that but he's made the son of David he can come from David's line according to the flesh and beat David's Lord according to spirit and he is and if he's not none of these verses make any sense look at John seven John chapter seven you know and when Peter says those prophets wrote things and put down their pens said God what am I talking about can't you understand why David's got his harp out Andy and he finds a good melody nice he's wanting to put some words to it he said Lord give me something give me something Lord give me something that I know is from you and Lord said okay write this down I'm gonna have a son I'm gonna have a son I'm gonna have a son I'm gonna have a son and that sons my lord I've been worshiping him for for all my life David put his heart outside and you get some sleep huh that didn't make any sense at all and he woke up the next morning Oort said write it down and then Jesus comes and he picks up that Psalm and he says okay guys explain this one how did David had us have a son that he'd been worshipping before that son was born the only explanation is God became man nothing else at work John chapter 7 verse 40 many of the people therefore when they heard this saying said of a truth this is the prophet others said this is the Christ but some sense you Christ come out of Galilee had not the scripture said that Christ cometh of the seed of David and out of the town of Bethlehem where David was see what they knew they knew that Messiah would come from David and they knew Messiah would come from Bethlehem how can you not know how can you say that and not know that thirty years ago all the male children in that state were killed to try and take out a baby that was born at Bethlehem that wise men and shepherds and Herod all either believed or feared was the King of the Jews did not come on there had to been more than just Nicodemus who went home and said this all makes too much sense he's got to be the one you're a lot of priests believed on him after his resurrection well how could you not everything's laid out in your scriptures and he did it all he's fulfilled at all what I want you to see is is the knowledge understanding they had from their scriptures of the Messianic expectation of Christ from David from Bethlehem that's what they're looking for and standing right in front of them is one from David who was born in Bethlehem who's working signs wonders and miracles how do you miss it I don't know how did people come here this morning and leave unsaved how do you miss it because you've got something else you want to believe acts 13 Acts chapter 13 verse 22 this Paul preaching from the Old Testament are reasoning out of the Old Testament let's start at verse 22 and when he had removed him he raised up unto them David to be their king to him also he gave testimony and said I have found David the son of Jesse a man after my own heart which shall fulfill all my will of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a savior Jesus see that Jesus Christ being the Saviour from David of the seed of David is the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies that was the expectation that's what happened now so when we read in Romans 1 3 that he was made of the seed of David according to flesh it calls to our minds that Jesus Christ is named the son of David 14 times in the New Testament God doesn't want us to miss that this truth is taken from Psalm 16 it's quoted in Peters first sermon in Acts chapter 2 it's quoted by Paul here in acts 13 we just read that so there's evidently a close connection between this truth and the gospel which affects both the Jews and the Gentiles well everybody would come on we're all still here it's all right Labor Day weekend come on back in focus back in here Luke chapter 3 Luke chapter 3 now this ground we've covered many times you can't cover it often enough I'll tell you what all those liberal churches and denominations have in common with the cults they all deny the virgin birth of Jesus Christ if Jesus Christ not born of a virgin you're lost I'm lost we're all lost he's just another man just another sinner who did some good stuff so Luke chapter 3 says this verse number 22 Holy Ghost descend to bodily shaped like a dove upon him voice came from heaven which said thou art my beloved son and in the I'm well pleased and Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age beating a watch being as was supposed the son of Joseph which was the son of heal I you know why he was supposed it was supposed that he was the son of Joseph because he wasn't he is just declared to be the Son of God by God speaking audibly from heaven now you can trace his his lineage verse 38 which was the son of Adam which was the son of God you can trace Joseph's lying back to Adam in Adam all died Adam past sinned unto all of his sons so if you say Jesus Christ is the son of Joseph and you run him back to Adam he's a sinner and he can't save you but if he was only supposed to be the son of Joseph because Joseph married Mary who gave birth to Jesus you can run Joseph's line back to Adam and it doesn't defile Jesus all right so let's take a look come to Luke chapter two Luke chapter two I want you to look at this because I want you to be sure this is in your Bible because it's if it's not in your Bible you got a problem in Luke chapter two this great word is spoken about Jesus and after it's finished the Bible says in verse 33 and Joseph and his mother marveled at those things which were spoken of him you see what the Holy Ghost just told you Joseph and his mother you want some of the modern versions say there because they're put out by people who don't believe in the virgin birth his father and his mother Josef's not his father God is his father Mary is his mother so the Holy Ghost calls her his mother but Joseph's not his father so the Holy Ghost says Joseph and his mother now if you turn the page to chapter three God speaks from heaven said this is my beloved son if you turn if you go later in Chapter three the scripture says it was supposed that he was from Joseph but he wasn't now how do you sit down and translate a modern version and you and you Trent this is my beloved God the Father spoke this is my beloved son he was supposed to be the son of Joseph and then you go back to Luke 2:33 and make Joseph his father that's that's a careless mistake if it's a mistake it's a vicious attack on the virgin birth if it's not a mistake but it's important we understand that that the lion that goes back to Adam Joseph's Senate but Jesus is not in it note Adam sinned Adam's sin done pass to Jesus okay now come come to first Timothy Chapter three and Matthew chapter one first Timothy three and Matthew chapter one now again I want you to look at this verse it's important that you look at this verse because I want to make sure that your Bible says what it's supposed to hear first Timothy chapter 3 all of those sons of Adam leading up to Joseph did they that they live in bodies of flesh where they manifest in the flesh all of them were all them were so if Jesus is born of Joseph he would be someone manifest in the flesh but so are all of us so watch what your Bible says 1st Timothy 3 verse 16 and without controversy great is the mystery of godliness God was manifest in the flesh [Music] that's significant that's powerful that's essential if you're gonna have a savior it can't be just anybody manifest in the flesh it's got to be God manifest in the flesh there are modern versions of the Bible that take God out of that verse and they say he was manifest in the flesh what does that mean every one of the billions of people on earth is a he manifest in the flesh that's not a great mystery it's pretty simple procedure we all know how it happens but it's a great mystery if God's manifest in the flesh so these things matter matter he's declared to be the Son of God he's not made the Son of God he he is made to be the son of David now look at Matthew chapter 1 Matthew chapter 1 in accord with the flesh it was necessary for Jesus Christ to become a man and that as a man he had to be in the line for the throne of David so let's let's take a look at this Accord Matthew chapter 1 verse 18 now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise when as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph before they came together she was found with child of the Holy Ghost so boys and girls when you get engaged you still keep your hands off of each other until you are married that's what the Bible says hmm no just stick with the Bible you'll be happy all my mom didn't my grandmother didn't I know and now they're saved and they wish they had don't throw their sin in their face when they try to help you don't drag up their past when they try to keep you from repeating their error thank God he saved them in time to deliver you from doing some things you'll regret that you drank with you you turned out okay I'd have turned out a lot better just tell him so I don't turn a lot better if I'd listened to God who knows more about it me or you well you know you kids 16 he does but try try anyway give it your best shot my dad said one time he said have you ever noticed I never asked your opinion on anything [Laughter] they sound like a rough man he wasn't really very roughly verse 19 then Joseph her husband being a just man and not willing to make her a public example was minded to put her away privily no ID man I hate to get off track but we've done almost far as we can go tonight did you know that in those times the public would have shamed a girl for being with child and not having a husband they say what's it now today we're progressive that's not progress that's not progress that's that's going the wrong direction going wrong today if a girl is pure and clean she's ridiculed made fun of fire classmates Hollywood laughs at her and mocks her in every movie and TV show they make I'll stay with the Bible God loves you Hollywood doesn't love you God loves you those reprobate singers don't love you stop taking their advice for living you know when you get messed up or you you you get dirtied up or you get diseased up why don't you call one of those singers and say I did what you said in those songs and I'm not really happy right now see if they'll come comfort you don't you listen to Lord you listen if somebody loves you if somebody cares about you all right anyway verse 20 while I thought on these things behold things and the Lord appeared unto Him in a dream saying Joseph thou son of David fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost and she should bring forth a son and thou shalt call his name Jesus he's never called Jesus till he's born that's his humanity for he shall save his people from their sins and all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the Prophet see it's in the Old Testament saying behold a virgin shall be with child I'll take you there in a second and she'll bring forth a son and they should call his name Emmanuel which being interpreted is God with us then Joseph being race will sleep that as the angel Lord had bidden him and took unto his wife and knew or not till she had brought forth her firstborn son and he called his name Jesus you know we're doing this tonight let's just stay with it would you please look at verse 25 the Roman Catholic Church the largest religion in the world that calls itself Christian they teach the perpetual virginity of Mary they pray to the Virgin Mary they hope you will never read the verses in the Bible that name Jesus brothers and sisters you know 1st Corinthians 7 says that if Mary stayed a virgin she defrauded Joseph and was an evil woman you're praying to somebody God said was working with the devil where's that all you husband's know it but you you you what his 1st Corinthians 7 its it Mary had other children but so you want the Holy Bible says till she had brought forth her firstborn son did you know that some of the modern versions take out the word firstborn now you want to know which of all the 5,400 manuscripts from which our Bibles translated guess which one doesn't have firstborn in it the Vatican manuscript well there's a shocker all right anyway let's stay with this so here's Mary Joseph Joseph is going to marry her but Joseph is not going to father the first of her children the first of her children is going to be the working of the Holy Ghost overshadowing Mary escorting the Son of God into a body prepared in a body Mary's form in a body God Jesus Christ son of God is going to move into that body now you know you know the other reason why that's important if he's always been God but he's going to be made the son of David then Mary is not the mother of God because he was God before Mary entered the scene so I have to say it so dogmatically because there's so many people who teach lies and you have to speak forcefully to get anybody's attention but Blessed Virgin the mother of God everything about that's wrong you just everything you believe is wrong according to Bible well according to the Holy Bible the Bible a lot of stuff taken out of it that's that's the whole different matter let me show you one more while we're at it the prophecies fulfilled it okay watch this verse 22 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the Prophet saying behold a virgin shall be with child does everybody's Bible say the fulfillment of the prophecy is that a virgin shall be with child everybody's Bible say that all right come to Isaiah chapter 7 Isaiah chapter 7 verse 14 here's the prophecy therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son and shall call his name Emmanuel that's got with us first of all some of the modern versions say the fulfillment of the prophecy is that a virgin shall have a child and when you go to Isaiah 7 they change virgin to young maid suppose I told you tonight God's gonna show us a miraculous sign a young maid is going to be pregnant I'm pretty sure that happens every day that's no sign but if a virgin is pregnant that's something you better stop and think about so that's the prophecy and it's fulfilling now isn't it interesting that in order for you to have a savior God has to be manifest in the flesh and born of a virgin and almost every place in the Bible or that doctrine is taught the modern versions change it so it's not talked I think it's significant I think it's important I'm not one of these guys thinks everybody with the modern versions full of the devil I think I think people have been misled by nice people that they trust and to try and get you out of that God sends you someone who's not so nice that would be me to say you can't believe in the virgin birth if your Bible doesn't teach it you need to have a Bible that teaches God was manifest in the flesh or when somebody says oh yeah show me that in the Bible you can't it's not there so it's important all right let's go back all the way out the first prophecy and we'll finish up there Genesis chapter 3 oh no no I'm sorry Genesis 3 and Luke 3 no no I was Genesis 3 Matthew 1 Genesis 3 Matthew 1 that first prophecy Genesis 3 and verse number 15 powerful powerful powerful see what see what the reference is there and I will put enmity between thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed just as simply as we can we don't want to harm any boys and girls when a man and a woman produce a child the seed comes from the man except in one case here is a woman and she has seed and there's no man it's the seed of the woman the first promise of a savior Messiah King deliverer Redeemer is a promise of a virgin birth in Luke in Genesis 3 verse 15 and it has to be because in Adam all die now in Matthew 1 Matthew chapter 1 this genealogy includes Joseph and the Bible says in verse 16 jacob begat joseph the husband of mary kama of whom was born jesus kama who is called christ see again the virgin birth is guarded jesus isn't born of joseph he's born of mary and and the wording is very precise and here's why look at verse 1 the book of the generation of Jesus Christ the Son of David the son of Abraham you can't you can't make Joseph his father Joseph did not generate Jesus Christ he's in the line he's in the line to the throne but he's not generated by Joseph he's born of a virgin God's his father so tonight according to the flash he's of the seed of David Lord willin Thursday night but declared to be not made declared to be the Son of God so we got his humanity tonight Lord willing we'll get his his deity on Thursday night and he's both he's God he's man right there right there one all only one all right let's pray father thank you for the Bible prayed priests help us tonight Lord to understand things that are beyond human understanding you said faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God and Lord help us help us to have faith in your word in what you've written and will thank you for it thank you for sending Jesus to be our Savior Lord I pray that tonight there's been a day of prayer in our nation and Lord there's some people that have prayed because they were asked to do so they've been some people prayed because it was a disaster I pray Lord then be the start of their turning toward you to trust you with their lives and and with their ways and they'd come to know your son Jesus Christ I pray for the Christians and the preachers that are in in that Texas area even now and and trying their best in the midst of all this disaster to use it as a way to witness and when their friends and neighbors to Christ I pray that many souls would be saved through through this trouble and these these trying times well thank you for it in Jesus name Amen
