this video was sponsored by Verve [Music] [Music] regular show it's anything but on September 6 2010 a bluejay in raccoon would define a modern golden age on Cartoon Network expanding 261 episodes across eight seasons what happened to such a great show and why do people enjoy it so much well we're not there yet in a little town called Hanford in California a young James Carlin Quintel would help change the landscape for what we consider modern Cartoon Network he developed an interest for film early making projects in Hanford high school being influenced by The Simpsons beavis and butthead the Moxie show and 1980s rock a lot of these inspirations would later manifest themselves in the Regular Show however when it comes to the main duo who we know and love you can attribute that to toe jam and arrow [Music] during this time quintal had a lot of minimum-wage jobs a movie theater job a job at a bookstore to name a couple quintal knew the school that he wanted to pursue his passion in the California Institute of the Arts also known as Cal arts after all he was in California and this was a highly received institution at the time he would send in his application and fail Quintel attributes his family to a lot of his support at the time saving in interviews that they simply could have told him to get a real job he would end up attending a college of the Sequoias in college of the canyons in Valencia for two years getting his general studies out of the way before focusing on his real passion however after two more tries he would finally be able to say that he was accepted into Cal arts the year is 2004 and after lots of hard work and networking Quinta would obtain an internship after growing Cartoon Network Studios to work on the TV series Star Wars Clone Wars being one of his first steps into the industry it was actually only a part of his rise towards pitching his own show however let's split it down the middle between the creations and the collaborations there are two shorts that are generally considered to be indicative of regular show's roots naive man from la Leyland and - and the am/pm the naive man from la Leyland revolves her on a round headed optimistic and jolly man who pays the people around him in lollipops as you can see there is no color and not that much sound in fact not really much of a background either the plot is simple an animation is very rough however it creates a character that will go on a journey with all throughout the upcoming decade the other short is called - and the am/pm it revolves around two clerks each of which resemble JG quintal and Sam Morin who would go on to be the voices of pops muscle man and Benson this is crazy you may have noticed within this short that both Mordecai and Benson very early versions of them appear and that's not a random cameo quintal is very laid-back apologising for everything and essentially being absent-minded slipping his more anxious and rule-following friend candy laced with acid I didn't want to do acid but even if I did I'd much rather be told about it and slipped some stupid milk chocolate pinkie this is a very chill Mordecai and Benson of equal rank going on an acid trip as you can see this has more backgrounds and it's a little bit more ambitious with this animation however it's also explicit the naive man from lolly land would go on to win the student animator award and producers Choice Award at the 2005 next toons Nicktoons Film Festival for the next three years from 2005 to 2008 quintal would have the role of a revisionist on Camp Lazlo and work on an episode of Phineas and Ferb titled jerk Desilu throughout this time he'd mean a lot of people however the two did I would like the center in on are a thorough Van Orman and Pendleton ward Orman was a year ahead of pen and pen was a year ahead of Quintel however they would form a close relationship that would allow for opportunities to spread Orman would pitch a show about two best friends who seek adventure and get into weird situations all for the pursuit of candy living in a whale in a town called storm along harbor that show is called the Marvelous Misadventures of flapjack whoever goes to the bathroom first loses uN after pitching multiple times dating back to 2001 Orman show would become a reality bringing on the likes of JG quintal Pendleton ward Patrick McHale and Alex Hirsch all four who would not only create shows themselves but have people who worked on those shows create shows there's a lineage that forms here where the creation of flapjack and a team surrounding it would create three highly influential shows that would also go on to create even more successful shows and influential shots this is why I personally believe that it was the Marvelous Misadventures of flapjack that is a seed as to why Cartoon Network and the 2010 television animation would take a massive shift we had the Adventure Time side and their Regular Show side now they had two shows it was cool to see Penn went to school right after thorough and I was right after Penn we were all next to each other year level wise we were all going through it seeing each other's work and hearing about what it's like in the industry and finally getting pulled in and actually getting some shows just getting to work with your friends is crazy fun that we actually get to do this to make cartoons that make us laugh and then actually see it on TV it's really really fun Cartoon Network would develop a project led by Craig McCracken and Rob Renzetti that essentially provided a showcase the animation without any focused testing and executive meddling it would be 39 shorts led by Cartoon Network's executive Rob sorter that was announced in 2008 this project would be called the hard-to-pronounce cartoon stitute sonny production in 2009 multiple shorts were created with plot such as the sole normal child in a family of circus performers must undergo training to prevent the family title of the Walla Walla wild men from being taken or a barbarian attempts to become a kind and gentle person with the help of a forest elf or or even when two best friends a bluejay and a raccoon play a game of rock-paper-scissors over a couch and leads to dangerous results well what did you you're playing rock-paper-scissors grab on don't you know that's an Evo game this project would actually be deemed a failure even though it led to the green light of two shows Uncle grandpa and regular show the project never made its a TV and was originally uploaded to YouTube the channel to this day is deleted at this time Cartoon Network would break records in the fourth quarter of 2008 Star Wars Clone Wars became the network's highest-rated series premiere and the top show for boys 6 to 11 on all TV Cartoon Network would go up 10% for boys while Nickelodeon would go down 3% and Disney Channel down 9% the growth for Cartoon Network was evident and led to the rapid expansion of new territory unveiling 19 new quote programming ventures the president of Cartoon Network Stewart Snider would go on to say these exciting new projects represent the next phase in Cartoon Network's ambitious ongoing strategy to reinvent the network and we energize our youth business overall we built tremendous momentum over the last year and through our thriving digital businesses so we're thrilled to introduce new content that our audience cannot find anywhere else today marks the next big step forward in evolution that is helping us reach our goal of becoming a dominant youth culture brand the brand she's talking about is an era that many people do not hold near and dear to their hearts when these two words are mentioned negative memories pop into people's heads memories of a network who had a crucial switch to their programming strategy go down horribly that era is seeing real this was a time period in which Cartoon Network would explore a medium in which it wasn't known for live-action on the whole Disney and Nickelodeon would have live-action programming and shows that I remember to this day fondly The Suite Life of Zack and Cody Drake and Josh Zoey 101 and the Wizards of Waverly Place name a few so the idea of introducing not just live-action but live-action targeted towards boys isn't exactly a concept that can't work here what adventures that were announced in a 2009 war media press release so we start off with seven comedy and action-adventure animated series Adventure Time would Finn and Jake stoked Total Drama Action Ben 10 evolutions which was a working title sym-bionic Titan generator x and scooby-doo mystery Inc five shows would return in the upcoming year Star Wars the Clone Wars chowder the Misadventures of flapjack the secret saturdays and Batman The Brave and the bold however it isn't called CN rail for nothing it also introduced six alternative live-action series the other ciders survive this destroy build destroy headrush working title dude what would happen and Bobbie says in addition for live-action and or animated original movies were plan Ben 10 alien swarm scooby-doo the mystery begins firebreather and the Tigers apprentice to scripted live-action pilots were also being produced unnatural history working title and prepped which was also a working title the press release would call this quotes the largest commitment to new content development in Cartoon Network history nearly every live-action show is doomed out of the gate with an incredibly negative reception and short shelf life on almost every show mentioned within the two years of that press release headrush now called brain rush would end after six episodes all within the span of a few months Bobbie says would also end after six episodes dating from August 19th to September 23rd a little over a month unnatural history would end after 13 episodes despite Cartoon Network thinking that the ratings and popularity was more than sufficient tower prep would also end after 13 episodes leaving the series on the cliffhanger the other ciders would end after 23 episodes due to its negative reception survive this with M after 26 episodes just going over a year production the later announced incredible crew ran by Nick Cannon would end after 13 episodes and that's just live-action the new at the time sym-bionic Titan would end after 20 episodes for financial reasons chowder would be canceled due to the network not feeling like this show fits its demographic for older boys Total Drama Action while not canceled was not as well received as Island receiving a more polarizing reception and creating the pattern of Total Drama seasons being less and less popular stoked while receiving 52 episodes over the span of four years would not grab as much attention as 16 or total drama cementing its legacy to casual viewers as the forgotten one of the trio the experimentation of live-action programming went down largely as a failure the only two live-action shows that did decently well were destroy build destroy and dude what would happen Batman The Brave and the bold and the secret saturdays would also do decently well but compared to their large expansion of animated and live-action ventures these are the exceptions to a largely unsuccessful run the live-action programming block would end in early 2010 Cartoon Network at this time wanted to shed its identity leaving the nudes of the previous decade for new bumpers a theme and a tagline [Music] it was time for Cartoon Network to create a new plan a new identity for if it didn't it'd be left behind for Nickelodeon and Disney Channel to pick up the pieces this new lineup of shows such as the amazing world of gumball the Looney Tunes show Ninjago masters of Spinjitzu Ben 10 Ultimate Alien robot Amy and regular show would form the beginnings of a new age some may call it the Golden Age this is the rise and fall of Regular Show speaking of Golden Age I want to give a shout out to today's sponsor ERV in the age where it's still hard to watch older cartoons I partnered with verve to create this rise and fall there are different channels which have different animated shows and I wanted to focus on boomerang if you're a big fan of Cartoon Network verb features an ad-free experience for shows like codename kids next door Camp Lazlo curse the Cowardly Dog and so much more however it offers other channels as well like NYX flat or cartoon hangover you can start watching on your computer and finish watching on your phone or vice versa who knows I may have gotten to binge a certain show on there and me do a rise and fall on it so if you want to try it 30 days ad-free use my link Verve dot ce o-- / alpha j to give a 30-day ad free trial of Verve premium it's a great service that has tons of great animation all in one place that anyone can appreciate so the pilot was released in 2009 however it was retooled for an episode of season 2 and 2011 so rather than covering that let's stick to the first episode that anyone would have had their eyes on which is season 1 episode 1 the power alright beef burrito I'm gonna give you one more chance to take back what you said about my mom right off the bat we see liberties taken here that isn't necessarily given to other shows this show is rated tv-pg in the first season that had mildly offensive language and double entendre z' what came about this was the network wanting to step up from the more child oriented fair you want us to put the hurt on you I think he wants me to put the hurt on his I think he wants you to put the hurt on him you think he wants me to put yes I do because of quintals easygoing nature in real life he had to learn how to yell effectively as a voice of Mordecai Quinton would also state that a lot of the plots are based on writers and quintel's personal experiences which would explain how the episodes come from a simple hole in the wall however at the same time being inspired by 80s music games and cartoons growing up you can see why majority of the episode focus is on this keyboard watching this episode has somewhat of an alien experience with me Mordecai and Rigby freak out over busing a hole in the wall panicking that they may be fired it would only be about a season or two where they do similar things of this nature and not worry about being fired it's easy to forget that the show started off from the perspective of them being new and inexperienced Rigby was formed as quote a character that's kind of not that responsible and kind of the jerk character to go with the straight character that Mordecai was kind of becoming according to quintal himself so in this episode we see a lot of Mordecai wanting to do the right thing but being dragged into doing the fun thing with Rigby also learning about Pops's previous encounter in a naive man from la Lille and you can see a clear reason why pops would give Mordecai and Rigby butterscotch lollipops after they try their keyboard performance on him the reason why the keyboard seems magical is because it is with Rigby stealing it from a wizard what are you doing you guys have been working harder I think you deserve a raise we can negotiate your new rates later in the week but for now how's 20 bucks sound rather than using the keyboard responsibly they get into more trouble with it sending skips to the moon it is actually this sequence here of them performing with the keyboard kicking it to max power that a lot of people would remember from this episode it seems so simple now but it is these little moments with the duo that led to them being considered one of the best Cartoon Network duo's around another foreign feeling in this episode is the amount of times Benson gives Mordecai and Rigby the benefit of the doubt later we'll get into this character more but it's amazing to see that at first he actually just thought that they were potentially hard workers who just goof around a tad bit more than her like some skips speaking of they traveled to the moon to get him after Rigby accidentally sends him there this is when the episode gets into its signature level of unrealistic a lot of the episodes start out fine however it is when they get into the weird and wacky that make them a regular show style episode you often notice how rough some of these drawings are and how they still have a lot to do to make them look polished it doesn't look bad but it's clear that their level of detail will go up soon the action here is also not to the level of a normal episode it has some ways to go but from a retrospective look everything about this just makes me weirdly nostalgic for a time that honestly feels like it was only like a year or two ago they end up saving skips using a conveniently placed plug in wires and we get to our first Benson blowout let's have it what the $40 you two caught out of me with that stupid keyboard crap and to top it off the episode ends with Mordecai just putting a poster over the hole in the wall and that was the power the whole first season aired in the same timeslot Mondays at 8:15 p.m. the show was a complete success with not only kids enjoying it but also adults when Quintel knew about this here were his thoughts on it I see a lot of comments online from a lot of parents who actually watch it with their kids I think that's something that we really wanted to have happen but I wasn't sure that it would because the show is pretty out there and it's a little weird and it's cartoony but the fact that adults were able to sit down and watch it I thought that was really nice you can attribute regular show signature style to five different things so let's go through them aka let's start off with the rise Regular Show has a pretty unique art and animation style compared to its peers while having these fantasy based characters there also are just a lot of regular human characters without animating them too stiff it gives off a relaxed style the show isn't too bright using a lot of dark colors actually not only that but the episode knew when to blow something up to give it the feeling of being large or shrink it if it's small within for example Benson Rigby and pops have very short stubby arms and legs whereas skips has huge arms Pop's has a big head and muscle man has a large frame the show has around 40 members on its production team pitching story ideas until the best ones are chosen the ideas are then sketched in to post-it notes that cover the walls of a conference room this story is then refined into boards 250 pages per episode once it's colored and labeled properly it sent off overseas to st. ROM animation where episodes are animated a single episode may take upwards to nine months to produce and there's usually 20 episodes in production at once after that it's taken to a post-production studio such as sabra media studios for SFX and music then it's sent to air on Cartoon Network when you look at its peers while it retains an unrealistic image to it it generally feels like a realistic slice of life most at a time and I think that adds to the general aesthetic of regular show unlike many shows on Cartoon Network regular show was commonly permitted to use licensed music for their episodes giving them a different feel than some of its contemporaries that generally use in-house compositions or music library quintal would state that there's a lot of subtle innuendo and we're referencing the 80s alive and using licensed music from the 80s and I think there's a lot of kids that may have never heard the songs before but their parents definitely did however it's not just 80's music sometimes they can dip into the classical music category or just whatever fits this makes certain scenes memorable almost as if it was edited for a meme because of the way the song fits for a situation take over the top for example an episode revolving around rigby using a robotic arm enhancement to defeat skips an arm-wrestling once skips learns the ruse and once i go down to confront rigby on this rather than having skips easily beat him with the show's production music they switch over to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's dies array apologies if I butchered that [Music] and it takes this regular scene and turns it into something magical however speaking of regular show has a well-defined episode structure that doesn't limit it but rather creates very creative ways to make the concept fresh in almost every episode the episode starts off very realistic usually revolving around something that is relatable working overtime to get tickets for our concert getting scared by a scary movie playing basketball however over time they evolve into something that isn't realistic at all such as making a deal with a coffee bean to get more coffee to complete their work seeing the scary monster from the movie in real life or a basketball king helping by giving them powers after realizing how poor their basketball skills are it ties the general concept of the show being regular but it's anything but the show is also pretty well known for its concept of fantasy whether it's a giant floating head that plays video games or a giant Karen that turns into a monster of people don't do the job under her ruling the show has created memorable good guys and bad guys when you combine this with the art style of the show it's clear why even some minor characters still carry some love to this day take fuzzy dice for example the animatronic characters reminiscent of Panov or five nights at freddy's a popular video game are widely considered to be one of the most memorable minor characters due to the scene involving shooting real guns they'd come back and steak Me Amadeus and continue to coast off of their popularity the show knew when to use a human character or a superhuman character and it made for memorable beings that made the show a lot more unique for its time here's another quote I grew up in the 80s a little bit and I was definitely a product of that as far as videogames and all those cartoons from back then they weren't part of my life then and maybe it's cyclical maybe they're just coming around again Quinto would add when talking about the influence of the 80s on regular show whether it's the licensed music or the montage music or what Mordecai and Rigby are generally interested in from making mixtapes - from wrestling to 8 or even 16-bit video games to hard rock there's something nostalgic about the show even if you didn't grow up in that time it feels like a show that has and sended being tied to any time because while you can say it belongs to the 80s it can equally belong in the 2000s or early 2010's because it isn't completely tied down to the time period the 80s aesthetic isn't used as a blanket aesthetic that Quintel thought would be cool it's thoughtful and seamlessly integrates into the episode cleanly as to where you can easily not know that it's the 80s and still enjoyed a series because it was built to be a good series before it was built to be a good series that is influenced by the 80s I have a plan and it is the single most perfect plan in the history of plans Mordecai is one of the main characters of Regular Show voiced by the Creator while using his natural voice quintal would state on numerous occasions that Mordecai is an extension of himself during his cow arts days of the - the show has focus on him using him in nearly every episode until the lunch Club a Rigby and Benson censored episode a slacker who's known to lie he's actually a little more responsible and intelligent than his best friend Rigby starting from season one there's episodes such as grilled cheese deluxe where his lying skills gets him caught up in a giant astronaut brouhaha however it is his lights of Benson that really shows why he's a little more smart than Rigby while Rigby would explain the entire situation because of its absurdity and low chance of happening Benson doesn't believe him but when Mordecai lies about a more probable situation Benson believes him fully we ran it over by accident see was it so hard to tell the truth well Benson may have a bias towards the duo he's not pulling this out of nowhere in the episodes just set up the chairs and the season 2 episode peeps he alongside Rigby aren't exactly hard workers and will go out of their way to not do work in impressive ways like in the episode beeps when Benson puts cameras all over the place Mordecai and Rigby placed the camera to face a television which led Benson to believe that they were working but in reality Benson was just watching a dishwashing video if there's one thing what akai loves it's video games in the episode highest score he'd end up achieving the world record with Rigby in an arcade game title she would also get into a lethal altercation over a role-playing game in the episode but I have a receipt warriors carries the immunity sword which is rule changes [Music] there's also the very early episode Rage Against the TV where a video game turn rolled would prove to be a hard battle for Mordecai and also the crew if it wasn't for his quick-thinking skips may have been finished [Music] Mordechai is also known Rigby since they were very very young in fact you can see a flashback in this season 1 episode dawn he ultimately has good friends of Rigby more than any other person in the park likened dawn he quote thinks of him as his brother because he embarrasses him and he thinks he's awkward to look at and sometimes he wants to trade him in for someone else but he doesn't because brothers always have to make do with each other they do fight a lot due to Mordecai's higher level of responsibility but also because Mordechai can be even more selfish than Rigby generally due to his own insecurities this comes up the most when it comes to Mordecai's relationships which we'll talk about when we talk about arcs however Mordechai would go out of his way to do things for Rigby like an excellent Mordecai promise me that whatever happens you'll get me that hat what please just promise you'll get that for me ok I promise one small but interesting part about Mordecai is that he's an artist it comes up just enough when talking about his character it was revealed that Mordecai went to art school and camping can be cool but later dropped out it brings me back to the episode bad portrait where Mordecai is a science of pain a portrait of Benson so you're like an artist yeah I mean I'm at school so so could you like draw me oh yeah sure it's also talked about in episodes such as camping can be cool meteor moves and fool me twice where he reveals he never graduated from art school a parallel to Rigby not graduating from high school Mordecai has different but distinguished relationships with the different members of the park for pups he respects and enjoys pops company however in the early seasons they don't have that many direct interactions in the season 2 episode a brain eraser Mordecai saw more of pops than he really wanted to I found your mustache monthly you'd have a great relationship with skips but they don't have them any episodes that are censored in on them in fact one notable one video game Wizards has skips just be the voice of reason somewhat a kind Rigby's personal drama skips I can't do this not without Rigby yeah it's about time you changed your mind you mean you're cool with stepping out now yeah these video games are too easy anyways well he does play a major role in the episode it isn't to establish or further their relationship besides skips is generally called upon to fix things and if it were a casual meet-up it's generally with everyone else involved rather than just Mordecai and skips exclusively it wouldn't be a dissection of Mordecai without talking about Mordecai's awkward relationship with love although I'll expound on that later when I talk about select arcs consider this the appetizer to that deep dive Mordecai and Rigby fight about a lot of things but one of their biggest disagreements is about how Mordecai handles his romantic interests when Mordecai has a crush on his good friend Margaret it has been the spawn of countless fights and even Rigby's death in the episode it's time Mordecai gets fed up with Rigby getting in his way when it comes to him asking out Margaret on a date Rigby would end up asking Margaret out just to show Mordecai that it isn't that hard however in a jealous rage Mordecai would sabotage Rigby's date and end up killing him [Music] there's also a pretty confusing bad kiss episode where through a series of warped and possibly contrived time-travel bordick I would end up undoing his kiss with Margaret and I'll expand on that later as Mordecai's interests are an entire section of their own Mordecai is one of the faces of Regular Show and it shows with his multifaceted personality that comes across as a cool and relatable but also funny or admirable at times Rigby is one of the main characters in Regular Show he's a raccoon who's a party animal rock-paper-scissors master hamboning enthusiasts and a frequent liar he's a troublemaker however he's known Mordecai's since he was little and they came to the park together generally known to slack off until Benson her skips comes around he's known for generally causing the trouble between the both of them being Mordecai's best friend his lack of a high school diploma and his crush on Eileen he goes through a lot of turmoil in one of his most notable episodes trash boo it is this episode that has some changes name to trash bow which leads to a serious case of public ridicule even from Mordecai and his friends at the park it's actually a pretty tough episode on Rigby leading into him trying to get away from it all this would also happen to a lesser extent during the journey to the bottom of the crash pit it's an episode that features Mordecai Rigby muscle man and Hi five ghost mostly however it's built around this moment because of how funny the guys thought of this moment Rigby was made fun of quite a bit it also led into the meeting car locks and unknown species that lived in the crash pit in the park they possibly survived off muscle man's beef jerky and similar things thrown into the pit their surviving six members were the first and last of their race relying on a ball and stick as their entertainment until the recording of Rigby came along I also want to highlight the season 7 episode California king we're after Rigby wins a king-sized bed he throws away his trampoline bed that he had all throughout the series but later goes through extraneous links to get it back although Mordecai is in this one he's more of an afterthought although it may seem redundant I do want to talk about Rigby's relationship with Mordecai just from his perspective Rigby is generally the troublemaker between the two convincing Mordecai to do things that he wouldn't normally do this isn't always the case but it is often like in the first episode I talked about we have more episodes than I can personally go over with these two I don't want to make this video too long so I'm just gonna highlight some of the ones that I think are the best episodes that show basically them so Rigby is known for making things worse like in the season 1 episode meet your maker in that episode Rigby continuously makes things go from bad to worse by not thinking before he does things dude don't force it there's also the episode more smarter we're because of Rigby's lack of a high school education he gets ridiculed and thus wants to prove that he is just as smart as water kind leading into a situation where he becomes too smart to understand anyone Mordecai seems very unsupportive of Rigby in his attempts to become smart and independent it'll come up again in the episode lift with your back but I'll talk about that in a second however there are times when the duo band together like in the season 2 episode appreciation day I'd better clean this mess up starting now or you're both fired what miss we did all the jobs you asked us to do but he has a lot of respect for Mordecai and will show her Morse if he pushed Mordecai too far bet to be blond is a season 3 episode in which he cheats on a bed which leads into Mordecai having to go blonde although initially upset he learns to enjoy his new hairstyle which turns into a lifestyle hanging with a new group of people Rigby shows incredible remorse in this episode chasing him down and trying to call off the bet he even with the skips for advice and did not follow it Mordecai has also done his fair share of harm to Rigby in the episode live here back we have Mordecai essentially tell Rigby that he's no more useful than being his chump multiple times within the episode so not even like a heat-of-the-moment sort of deal well I mean there was the time with the chairs the limousine the pretzel you're basically the opposite are useful pretty much anytime we do anything this lease into Rigby quitting and the employees treating him like an afterthought which leads to him getting a proper job which nearly destroys him but he does earn a paycheck at the end of the day with no help however Rigby isn't so innocent himself with episodes such as whoa buddy where he completely sells out Mordecai and the episode acts like Mordecai is at fault Mordecai and Rigby get yelled at for essentially having a very trashy room however the trash is exclusively from Rigby sin which leads into Mordecai getting in trouble for him Rigby tells Mordecai later on that he's upset that Mordecai sold him out when in reality Rigby sold Mordecai out by getting Mordecai in trouble for his mess Rigby doesn't have that much of a relationship with other people in the park however here are some highlighted pisode to be enjoyable there's the episode muscle mentor where Rigby must prove that he can finish any job by being mentored by muscle man a task that proves to be very straining for him it's a really good episode that tests the endurance of Rigby especially with the personalities such as muscle man's big baby repeat lessons one into lesson one you stay calm lesson two is be cool stay cool yeah stay cool all right forget those two lessons Rigby and Eileen would have a rocky start to their relationship some highlight episodes would include the ending of diary where Rigby would claim they'd have more run-ins like in the episode do me a solid where Eileen was shown to have a crush on Rigby in the episode tense pops gives Mordecai and Rigby tense and they ruin them Eileen works on a broken chance and Rigby stands up for her leading to this however if you were to ask me what is the best episode that shows Rigby's affection for Eileen I would go with Eileen flat screen it's an episode where Rigby went out of his way to watch Eileen at a contest in this contest she'd win a flat screen that Rigby would not only bring to her house but also install Mordecai and CJ would be very impressed with this however not after showing another instance of Mordecai being irritated of Rigby bettering himself and trying to be independent of more nakai what's up with the whip it's my utility whip it has a thousand uses Eileen and I got it at a Renaissance Faire when did you go to a Ren Faire and why are you two always hanging out without me when it comes to Rigby it can be easy to brush him off as a person who has very little redeeming qualities but his character has certainly aged well throughout the series as a growing young man who may not exactly be ready to give up all the partying slacking and being messy but will make things better in the end always well most of the time [Music] I've chosen skips skips can fix anything if you need something done go to Skip's he's part groundskeeper and part otherworldly immortal man who fights for people who just couldn't make it with him he's a Yeti who lives in a golf cart garage so what makes him special well he has a reputation for being extremely dependable hardworking and wise although some would say all knowing skips has been around for a long time due to a deal that he made with these otherworldly beings called the guardians of eternal youth promising the defeat of monster known as klorgbane the destroyer every 157 years this was also the way that he was named skips because his original name was walks in universe although he's generally seen as compose he's had a very rough past after being expelled from other schools for his aggression and stubbornness he's given a new chance to which he already makes friends but also enemies he sees himself as an adventurer rather than a man who wishes to be educated he would also meet his high school sweetheart Mona a girl that he would promise to stop fighting and getting expelled to stay with however after a nasty fight that ends with skips victorious against a much younger klorgbane Mona would not make it through however for his valiant effort and never quit attitude as a mortal he was granted immortality immortality has a prize you will outlive your family you will see loved ones come and go I've already lost the one I love in fact while in many episodes not directly involving skips he may seem wise he's actually kept the wild streak of arrogance in the episode Skip's vs technology and over-the-top he becomes hell-bent on solving an issue even if it means coming across a little unlikable he's very protective over the reputation he has both as a guy you can come to today can fix everything but also the strongest of the group in fact it over the top he ends up killing Rigby over his frustration to learn that Rigby has been cheating at armwrestling however that episode leads to an interesting dynamic towards the end skips and death they don't seem to be on the best of terms most likely because skips is immortal in more than a couple of instances skips us cheated death not just for himself before the people around him this has led into death being vengeful of skips even going as far as the threatened to tell why his name went from walks to skips death that's not who I am anymore if that secret came out it could ruin me yeah I guess he could see the game Aion I won't tell he's very protective of his pass like in the episode diary we're after releasing his secret on his name origin when Mordecai asked what can he do to repay the favor the only thing that skips once from Mordecai and Rigby is to forget about the name origin however of the few times he's confronted his past publicly the best example is in a skips in time he's shown to be incredibly empathetic to his former self who was known to be an adventurer with no sense of manners or empathy he actually views his past self fondly understanding that while he was a brute he would just need to meet the right person who would turn his entire perspective around sometimes this level of exposure and restraint has backfired on him like in the episode clips here he seemed to have so much respect for his family that even in the face of the bad Juke telling rude quips he's not direct in fact he does more to convince his friends that quips isn't that bad then he talks equips about how no one wants to hear him try out his new material although in the end he'd not only confront him on the matter he'd go out of his way to find quips a better audience to perform in front of Skip's as a whole is actually a very private guy which in return has not created that many skip centric episodes he's seen helping out in a ton of episodes whether as a mechanic muscle or just a friend to talk to but when it comes to him being the star that's just not the way he rolls he did have one episode skips in the saddle where he attempted to find love again but it didn't work out for him for he skips for one lady and one lady only we may not know much about his life but rest assured that he's a valuable member to the park who can just be like the guys but also have sides to him that bring a difference but much-needed mood to the park excuses excuses how am I supposed to trust you when all you get me more excuses what are you two gonna learn figure actions have consequences Benson is the manager of the park he's the boss of every worker except possibly pops he probably came from the short film the naive man from LA Leland when the early form of pops called his chauffeur Benson which explains their relationship he's generally characterized as angry having a short temper towards Mordecai and Rigby's actions however I would describe him as a hard worker who generally wants the best of all of his employees including Mordecai and Rigby in fact in many episodes that involve Benson it's usually his dynamic with Mordecai and Rigby let's go back to that initial speech with Benson it actually comes from the third season episode 27 busted car it's about how Mordecai and Rigby crashed a cart and need to get it fixed in time however they end up making things worse when they decide to go to the arcade rather than staying on course to the mechanic what's interesting about this scene is that while they weren't supposed to go with Benson and Benson would refuse to let them drive multiple times it shows that he does not trust Mordecai and Rigby all that much in normal situations he wants to and he'll show that in other episodes however it's clear that he tries to avoid being mad by lowering his expectations and give them simple jobs rather than a job of driving on the highway to get the cart fixed in fact diving deeper into the trust aspect we have episodes such as blind trust where Benson's trust is tested against Mordecai and Rigby after one too many times being shown to blatantly not trust as two slacker employees Pop's would give him a task to essentially get Mordecai and Rigby and Benson it's a bond in the forest while initially going over poorly in the forest Benson would be forced to trust Mordecai Rigby even with his life it's clear that there's a deep-seated trust between Benson Mordecai and Rigby provided the conditions are right Mordecai and Rigby would take quite a beating protecting the blind gumball machine this wouldn't be the only time Pop's intervened in a relationship between Benson Mordecai and Rigby in the episode think positive Pop's restricts the amount of aggression Benson can act upon when it comes to the way that he deals with Mordecai and Rigby this leads into pups putting his foot down when Benson can't learn to control his anger what I like about this episode is actually twofold firstly we get introduced the Benson's family which rarely makes an appearance in the series it's clear that at a young age it was instilled upon him to speak up for what he once and use anger in order to lead those around him however this goes awry when he bottles up his anger causing what appears to be an infernal of contained fury to be completely fair towards Benson Mordecai and Rigby are pretty careless in this episode and take advantage of Benson's restraint causing him to blow up even more according to the wiki quotes at the 2012 Comic Con it was revealed that following the episode Sam Marvin developed a migraine and lost his voice after Benson's tirade the reason he cares so much about what pop said is not only because he doesn't want to lose his job but also because he doesn't want any other job so Benson his job is his life and he enjoys exactly where he is in the episode 150 P skit it's shown to us that Benson had a previous lifestyle of being a rock star drummer however because he wanted to go in a different direction than his former bandmates here to the throne he would end up keeping his job as a park manager even after proving that he still has the skills to be a rock star dude what the heck man I know right working at the park blows I guess we'll never understand that guy and what's admirable about this is that it shows that Benson on some level is content with where he is although he have issues mourn - love the part his job is perfect for him and bear in mind that's not just a park but also being a manager it was shown in Benson be gone that if he's not the park manager he'd be more likely to slack off once he quits he temporarily enjoys his time off which shows that he's not a workaholic all the time it's just that when he's on work time he's gonna pull all of his effort into it it also comes from a deep really belief that he should never slack off in the episode party repeat it's actually shown that Benson in the episode for our large part is not the Benson they know this Venson isn't a partying but what appears to be a self-destructive amount once rescued he says this at the end I should have known not to cut loose on a weekday like that I guess I'll go back to sorting timesheets and multivitamin he is very hard on himself and it leads to him having a serious and unforgiving persona which is ironic because he would forgive Mordecai and Rigby quite often in fact let's talk about the season 7 episode lunch club it has a sleeping Rigby ruin a million-dollar cake which leads to the boss mr. maelard not Benson to set an ultimatum either Rigby or Rigby's boss Benson will write a resignation letter or they're both fired it's actually an amazing deep dive into the dynamic of Rigby and Benson something that is extremely rare most of their interactions generally devolve into Rigby being seen as a no-good slacker and Benson being seen as a strict uptight boss however once stripped down they both bond over the fact that they are misunderstood and their family has never appreciated them for being them it's actually a great look into Benson as a whole from a character that you would never expect it does show how much he cares about the park and being the boss under all of that park manager seriousness it's just a guy who wants to enjoy life and fit in we'd see this in episode such as weekend at Benson's where he was originally supposed to go to a party and ends up getting knocked out and thus not remembering anything that happened in the party until he wakes up in the middle of it there's also guitar of rock and sandwich of death where he is shown to be capable of the same short-sighted mistakes as Mordecai and Rigby whether it being as minor or moderate as breaking a guitar die was signed by a famous rock star or as major as eating a sandwich that can lead to death he just wants to fit in even with other park managers we'd see this in episodes such as bad portrait park managers lunch and the park II Awards we're liking the episodes such as world best boss his employees appreciation for him is strained dudes at Vincennes need to be placed in the park manager Circle however each and every time he is shown to not sell out his employees just to make amends with the park manager Circle you and your employees have truly displayed our core values welcome to the lodge Benson and that's the crux of Benson in this series he may be the boss but he's far from detached she can be a part of the guys as easily as he can be the grown-up in the room so when you watch Regular Show just remember that this combo machine is more than just a park manager so everyone pops maelard is the adopted son of mr. maelard who's the owner of the park he's this weird hybrid of a human being but also a lollipop and if you were to see pops from the outside you would probably think that he doesn't belong in this show he gives off this appearance that would imply that he's an outsider to the otherwise modern for its time character cast I know that skips is a Yeti but he doesn't exactly scream old-timey however pops is an invaluable member towards the group just an interesting character to observe it's clear that while his naive and weird nature hasn't stopped him from gaining the trust of the people around him like skips it's his history and his actions under pressure that reveal his true character the episodes start off very simple like in dizzy where while he wants to impress his dad who owns a park he is too afraid to give speeches and thus his father's request for him to give a speech is harder than he thinks while to Benton's disapproval many times pop says a lot of trust in Mordecai Rigby and sees them as good people you can look to episodes such as blind trust and think positive where they have butted heads on the perspective on Mordecai Rigby he's even backed them up for nearly being fired for good and really real wrestling as he snuck out of the house just like Mordecai Rigby and Benson assumed that they went together I cannot tell a lie Benson it was all my fault what I snuck out to the rest sling match on my own and Mordecai and Rigby had to come and get me I'm sorry yeah most of that is technically true somewhat in fact before we go on there are two interesting things that happen with pops within this episode on a minor note pops tries to be a part of the guys something that he would delve more into in the episode guys night speaking of real quick in that episode pops once approved to the other guys that he's one of them and spends a majority of the episode struggling with the hard challenge to prove his manhood it's a great episode 2 seed pops go through it's something that many people would honestly give up on [Music] but getting back to the main crux here and really real wrestling the reason that Mordecai and Rigby couldn't go the see said wrestling event is because they play too hard with pops who is much older than them and some would say also breaking down it shows that he doesn't want to see himself as old and definitely doesn't carry himself as someone who wants to be pampered and taken care of it's an interesting dynamic considering his high-pitched voice and the interest that he has but when it comes down to it he will be just as brute as the guys if needed the other interesting part of really real wrestling is the fact that pops accidentally ran over a huge head a wrestler that was showing up to the event late this led it's a huge head getting revenge four seasons later in the season 6 episode men in uniform that episode really isn't important even though in that episode the park is being threatened too close but it was Pops's arch enemy of no but giving away from the appearances in the strength pops is also shown to be cunning in the episode win that prize pups accidentally gives the TV executives great ideas to which they would latch onto him and never let him participate in the TV show when that prize it's a great episode that shows the funner ability of pops not being able to put his foot down all the time I noticed that when it comes to people trying to limit him then he can stand for himself like and wrap it up or dizzy where Mordecai and Rigby try to get him to do things their way but when it comes to people asking things of him he tends to go along with it like in this is my jam when tape asks him the dance and he reluctantly dozen getting back to win that prize pops shows an incredible sense of skill and smarts when he was able to get away with both making a makeup replica of himself and a makeup replica of the makeup guy so that they would catch the replica of himself and kick out the makeup guy who is pops the whole time he's a multi-talented guy he learns how to surf in catching the wave he's a great Baker and was shown to be in pie contests and he's shown to be great at the keyboard and harpsichord like in the episodes this is my jam return of Mordecai and the Rigbys and but I have a receipt well pops would become a staple towards the end in the first six or seven seasons he's really in the background he doesn't really run the park he's almost always a side character and is generally doing his own thing from bird-watching to poetry to whatever meets his eye so if you fancy a proper character that has more to him than its etiquette then Pop's is your guy well well sounds like someone needs some supervision you know who else needs supervision muscle man and Hi five ghost are almost like Mordecai and Rigby except more responsible and yet more wild if that makes sense muscle man is exactly how he sounds a man who prides himself on his muscles the party guy of the group he's often known for about three things his one joke being the muscle slash a big reactor of the group and his relationship with Starla in the beginning Mordecai and Rigby did not like muscle man in my mom Mordecai confronted muscle man on his one joke the joke of him seemingly making jokes about his own mother to which high-five ghosts only seems to enjoy despite being pranked with this from a naturally big reaction from muscle man it was actually preceded by a very heartwarming point guys I haven't had quality bro time like this in ages we should do this all the time I know I mess around a lot but you guys are the best it's something that he wouldn't say much more in the series however there's another time when he did say it it's just that Mordecai Rigby did not hear him any episode trucker Hall of Fame muscle man learns that his dad was not exactly who he appeared to be growing up with an admiration for his muscle dad being a truck driver he was actually a forklift driver which is seen as a lesser thing he would show like in many episodes when he's under stress that he's just as bad at handling it as someone as the likes of Benson he has a type of squeal that is mixed with throwing things and thrashing everything around him in a fit of rage and this episode understandably has him at his peak upset but besides honoring his dad's wishes as a master prank er he would end up repeating a similar compliment to a sleeping Mordecai Rigby will probably just be jerks to each other again tomorrow but I really see you guys as good friends pranks an insult to just tell my old man taught me to show it oh man I sound like such a wiener the reason I bring up muscle man when he's shown to be sentimental and emotional is because he's more than a brew I can give you hundreds of examples of muscle man of breaking things being gross being loud being your regular frat boy but a lot of these moments can blend together and not show the bigger picture muscle man was a bodybuilder winning many competitions before exiting the scene however as we'd see in power tower he's able to come back from that fun fact about that episode in the original airing of that episode it has some animation problems and made certain scenes look weird quintal would later confirm that your TV sets are not broken the episode just aired weird I don't remember this but that sounds amazingly rare to witness muscle man has been fired stabbed and dead aeneas seems to come back just fine at least for the initial six or seven seasons however the reason why I named this segment after two is because high five goes as a character almost always seems to revolve around muscle man they're inseparable we have episodes like new bro in the campus and the post card which feature him heavily in new bro in the campus it was shown that muscle man and Hi five ghost had a rocky start to their relationship with many people seeing Hi five ghost as the cooler one completely ignoring a younger muscle man in fact it has parallels the dawn another episode of Regular Show in which the main character was shunned for another character which formed the core of their disdain towards them which was never reciprocated there's also the postcard which is closer to being a genuine Hi five ghost episode where they insert a backstory on his love interest Celia they were to meet four years after Celia was done with University overseas eight year typical love story from that point on he gets the postcard he drives all around for her and at the last moment they finally speak it's a decent episode however it didn't tell me much about fives besides the fact that a lady has common interests with them and he's been saving himself for her for essentially four years his brother who was formerly a criminal but graduated from a police academy according to the episode gut model is a much more interesting character with better backup characters and fives this is why I paired them up with muscle man because a lot of his significance is associated with them even if he has roots of a unique perspective here there there's also the season 7 episode struck by lightning where a high-five from the both of them combined with an unlucky lightning strike causes them to lose memories of one another on the surface it shows the very clunky and prank heavy friendship between the two in which Mordecai lays it on heavy that without high five ghosts most of the man is just a weird dude at the park who no one really gets besides Starla he'd end up dragging high five goes to the crash pit the same one where their friendship really started and that's where their memories would come back even though it's a simple episode it showed a lot about how muscle man and Hi five ghost functioned both separately and together and revealed some harsh truths his relationship with Starla is not one to overlook he cares more about Starla than anyone who is not in his immediate family in episodes such as muscle woman fancy restaurant and bald spot he has shown to go through extraneous lengths in order to appease her not because he has no control over his relationship but because he cares for her so much that often times he sees himself as the person in Iran I still look like an animal a disgusting middle-aged looking animal it's okay Mitch it's what's inside this disgusting middle-aged looking animal the counts and the longest week it was a very stressful time for muscle man spending a weekend away from his girlfriend it parallels his appreciation for his dad in the end of muscle man he was willing to give up his old life of partying being a brute and loud and gross away to marry Starla however she would deny him and would much rather have the muscle man that we've all grown to love since then they were married in the season six finale jumped at the altar which seems to have peak muscle man he shown to care a lot about his family wanting to be guided by his father he shown to be very emotional at times being very hard to keep under control he was also shown to be very much in love with Starla what will remember most about you more than anything else is excuse me your passion muscle man your passion muscle man is a chaotic middle of a cool of an annoying frat boy with muscles under his fat and tons of connections but also a loyal to death family man who takes his relationship and his job serious and somehow we love him anyway you know who else loves him ARC's slash special events that happen within the show and I want to go over the three arcs and events that stood out to me firstly let's talk about love ironically I've had a love-hate relationship with the way that Regular Show treats love at the best of times it can prove to be one of the best moments within the show and at its worst it could be incredibly annoying to see a character run away from a situation that could have been easily mended with a few sentences sometimes it can feel like a grind to watch these episodes knowing that the only reason many characters do what they do is because they're young and dumb however when you're crafting these characters and you have full control over their direction I would imagine that you would want to make these characters realistic enough to believe but not realistic enough for me to have to suffer through the parts of real life that probably shouldn't be animated for entertainment you see this a lot with Mordecai and Margaret where Mordecai has a different mood when Rigby talks about Margaret and while many times it is okay sometimes it can be downright unlikable margaret is shown to have a couple of boyfriends in season one in episodes such as caffeinated concert tickets and Mordecai and the Rigbys Mordechai Margaret that was pretty cool what you said up there thanks Margaret oh hey have you met my new boyfriend angel if you don't remember from earlier I brought up it's time and do me a solid episodes from season 2 where Mordecai is very emotionally driven when it comes to conversations about Margaret Rigby learns of Mordecai's jealous side taking Margaret on a date just to spite him he also is very combative against the idea of Mordecai and Margaret because he still sees him and Mordecai as Broz inseparable you also have the cute foot akward episode butt dial where Mordecai sings a song about Margaret which he accidentally sent to her it leads into her hearing this song in a regular show style episode where everything gets crazy and supernatural towards the end in these first episodes involving Mordecai's feelings for Margaret it's volatile but also somewhat innocent depending on who Mordecai expresses his feelings to and how he chooses to act upon them he's the jealous type however he's known for not taking the next step in building a relationship something that the wiki would dub Mordecai his reluctance to make the first move which led to Margaret making the first move in the episode picking up Margaret don't freak out but those guys kind of want to kill me for using a cell phone what I can explain let me guess you asked a bed or did you hijack this car from some Argyll wearing crime lord it's Benson's car at this point Margaret resents the weird things that happen when she's around Mordecai not exactly knowing him perfectly well his reluctance would also be seen in do her diaper where Rigby and muscle man make a bet to see if Mordecai would make the first move and kiss Margaret or if you'll be Mordecai Inge honestly up to this point has been generally okay it's actually when we get to episodes such as yes dude yes the other episode from season 3 where we see Mordecai basically stalled for 11 minutes he lets his jealousy get the better of him which leads into him getting upset over nothing it's not a completely useless episode and in fact that would go as far as to say while annoying it's a landmark episode for the series because it introduces us to CJ Mordecai what's going on what aren't you taking me to that movie Oh what oh shoot Oh Mordecai what is she talking about umm wait hold on oh no how every age uses us at the beginning of the Mordecai Margaret and CJ love triangle unpopular opinion maybe but the way this was handled was not my cup of tea maybe because the situation never really gets handled until marketer CJ finally put their foot down and outer leave early down the law it's actually this arc that you get to see Mordecai at his most insecure generally went plopped down next to Rigby he's generally seen as the more responsible one however like Rigby who can where's emotions pretty visibly and be very stubborn Mordecai could be just as bad or worse the next instance of Mordecai Margaret worth noting his meteor moves where Rigby worries of Mordecai will always stay in the friend zone she'd also drop a hint that she may be going soon there's one reason I don't want to leave this is it she's setting you up just pull the trigger I I would really miss you Mordecai even though Mordecai was going to mess things up once more was prodding from Rigby and supernatural beings he finally initiates a kiss this would lead naturally into the season 4 finale steak Me Amadeus which follows after the events of fuzzy dice an episode i spoke about earlier which had the clip I guess it's show time yeah all of that so Mordecai market have become very close and after Mordecai initiated the first move in meteor moves he plans to take her on a fancy date and then ask her to finally make things official however things cannot be that simple I feel like I could be in a relationship that could actually go somewhere but there's day I got into my dream school in the background of Regular Show you would see Margaret go from working in the coffee shop with Eileen until she transfers to another college and get her journalism degree she'd be out of the entire fifth season except the first episode towards the very end in the episode laundry woes this episode follows directly after sake Me Amadeus Mordecai is seen very depressed after the rejection going directly into the obsession over getting Margaret's sweater sweater oh no don't do anything you're gonna regret don't do it yeah it gets pretty out there he ends up treating Rigby much of the same way he did in its time very angry and closing himself off creating this tunnel vision of being with Margaret who has moved on by now he finally decides that it's time for him to get over Margaret and go on and live his own life now you may have noticed that throughout most of this analysis it's been about Mordecai and Margaret that's because in the events of yes dude yes CJ leaves for a long time only to come back in the season 5 episode New Year's kiss we learned that in yes dude yes that Mordecai and CJ actually have quite a bit in common from my own perspective I see CJ as a little less mature than Margaret and thus a better fit to be around Mordecai she's into video game as mini-golf to things that motor kai has shown a great interest in and when Mordecai was not listening to any of his dates CJ went out of her way to accommodate him and his interests first which led to them building a bond they'd accidentally kissed at a New Year's Eve party but nothing much would come of it they try to mend things in the episode dodge this and portable toilet where towards the end Eileen says CJ jumped into a moving helicopter wow really well you know more like a portable toilet being carried by a helicopter ain't no biggie we're not the ones getting stuck in portable toilets whatever it was your bet it leads into episodes such as I like you hi We're Mordecai pretty much does the same events as butt-dial but with CJ however she becomes interested in Mordecai again after their falling out V of the episodes play day in real day aptly named in which they bond and you can see the type of relationship they have Mordecai is a lot more comfortable around CJ because she has integrated into the crew so easily there's not much friction however things can't be too good when Christmas comes around in the season six episode Merry Christmas Mordecai he goes out of his way not to face Margaret because he feels like he's going to be weird around her Margaret's back in town and as Eileen's roommate they finally talked after the events of sicne amadeus and also kissed in front of CJ showing some unresolved feelings so this is where the arc gets messy however I don't want to dive too deeply into it because a lot of the moments just end up being redundant essentially the love triangle is built so that Mordecai never picks and goes through season six even more confused in how he started we have the episode sad sacks where Margaret is written to get in the way of any meaningful conversation but also the episode a thousand chopper flight party where CJ's were instigating a way of any meaningful conversation they're both not bad episodes but it's clearly padding the only significant episode before the big episode that will settle everything is not great double date where CJ wants to give Margaret another chance learning that Margaret has a boyfriend now Margaret was shown to be lying because she did not want to open up old wounds and also said that CJ winning killer unfortunately at the end of the date Margaret was shown to not really have a boyfriend and also confessed feelings for Mordecai still why don't you just tell me right now do you still have feelings for Mordecai [Music] I think I do however to top things off we have the episode dumped at the altar where after learning that Rigby nileen are dating mind you in a stress-free relationship Mordecai trusts his gut attempting that dump CJ at muscle man and Starla sweating in public on a microphone it's one of those moments when I'm sitting and scratching my head that we're still dealing with this in fact Rigby is also puzzled at how Mordecai is still dealing with this you know last few months I've been really happy and I think you deserve to be happy too man I'm not going to tell you what to do but I will say I know you and I think you should go with your gut for once when Mordecai is trashing Rigby all the time a lot of it warranted it shows who can be responsible when it comes to relationships at the end of the day in fact it's quite interesting that the way that Rigby treats Eileen amongst anyone else it's almost foreign however this is the last episode before season 8 that I want to cover that deals with Mordecai's love interests as up to this point he decides to be just friends with CJ and in the obvious episode just friends with season 7 you can probably guess what he would be with Margaret but let's switch from this love blah to a little espionage that's right I'm talking about Thomas Thomas is one of the newest main characters introduced in season four in the episode 9 be more in this episode later he was noted to be a mama's boy a soft kid who didn't have the chops to be with the likes of the crew just yet mind you this is the same crew who have already went through massive adventures together I can't wait to try those breaks coming he did serve to be a solution to the conflict in that episode however here's how quintal explains it JJ quintal explains that Thomas was created because many of the people that worked on the show have been interns I know that's another one where I feel like a lot of people didn't get it or didn't see it the way that we saw it a lot of us who work on the show have been interns in our lifetimes and remember those days and as an intern as an unpaid intern as most of us were you don't get treated with a lot of respect you're treated in a way that's not overly mean though it can be perceived that way but more you're going to the rounds of getting your chops busted and that's how you get into the workforce and then there's people that will accept you and you're brought up and then you're one of the crew but for now Thomas is kind of going through that phase of he's the intern this would naturally lead into the episode starter pack where he's officially initiated as being a park employee and no longer an intern Yotam saved you a seat right next to me bro oh thanks muscle man well that's not exactly true he's initiated by everyone except muscle man who goes on the prank cam more and more he'd pray come to the point where Mordecai and Rigby want to step in knowing how our braces muscle man can get they go to Skip's and try to get him to back them up but skip says guys I know you're looking out for Thomas but you gotta let him fight his own battle because of Mordecai and Rigby's failure to follow skips advice they get pranked themselves as muscle man goes on a rampage killing Thomas when in reality it was all a prank Thomas's car did get totaled though distant leave Thomas to have a sour relationship with Mordecai and Rigby at the end of the episode at least but nothing would build from that in fact later on they'd go on to save Thomas's life in the season 4 episode cool cubed whoa how'd I do how'd I do dude your brain was totally frozen you almost died Oh however life doesn't become better because of the fact that now Thomas is an employee and the episode Thomas fights back he's actually almost fired and has to fight for his job I didn't want to do this in front of everyone but you're fun wait I know I'm not the most important worker around here and during my internship here I've gotten to know each of you and I finally feel like you've accepted me I don't want to lose that it's a spotlight episode for Thomas as you see him essentially prove his worth to the crew in a mission where he has to get the park founders statue back he hints his true self multiple times in this episode having an elias named nicholas and saying mission accomplished at the end of the episode at this point thomas does seem like a worthy contender however it will always be a challenge to integrate characters late into a series as many viewers have become accustom to seeing certain characters show up and at this point we find out that thomas is just an intern who's a mama's boy Thomas is a Russian spy a Russian spy who has come to tear down the park by bringing it over to Russia and having each bit of US soil bone up bit by bit on Russian land it's a very weird episode even to the weird standard of Regular Show episodes but I found it to be interesting his quote unquote mom that he was talking to actually is not his mom he was abandoned as a baby and later taken by the Russian army he was led by partner / Russian spy Natalya who posed as Benson's new girlfriend she would end up revealing the entire plan to the crew and it's actually a pretty dark episode special delivery in fact this episode is so dark that it's banned in Russia and Ukraine it's considered to be pro-american propaganda and the wiki states that quote when Nikolai and his partners try to seal the park to replace Russian parks it possibly could be a reference that a Russia seizure of Crimea in March 2014 the wiki would go on to state that quote this episode is seen by some as a commentary on the then current political situation between the United States and Russia references are made to various nuclear-armed treaties and the Russian commanders reaction to being accused of stealing US land is similar to the Russian President Vladimir Putin's reaction when accused of assisting pro-russian Ukranian separates in the Ukraine crisis Thomas or Nikolai would have a change of heart and decide with all the time spent with the park crew he doesn't want to go through with the plan which ends up creating conflict with his accomplice after a pretty brutal fight she'd end up dying and Thomas would end up being wanted all over America as for an interview JG later explained in an interview that the idea of Thomas becoming a spy was not planned at the beginning of Thomas's creation but was brought up later on in the writers room deciding that there was more to Thomas and the viewers knew after seeing numerous fans online wonder if Thomas would develop more as a character and quote his last major appearance worth noting is the episode guys night to which rather than focusing on pops focuses on Thomas having his true night before going off into deep hiding for good old guys do that dog woody it's just me it's actually shown that he's remorseful over his past life and doesn't want to tangle up the crew in his mess this episode would actually have you think that he's going to die and if this wasn't Cartoon Network maybe he would have however it's only a ruse to get the Special Forces off his back and since then he hasn't had a major episode Thomas was a very interesting part of Regular Show seeing that he was a temporary character that grew much faster than his peers to me it feels like Thomas had so much more to offer but it may have been too late to fully integrate the idea of an intern and overall seem somewhat rushed although this would span across three seasons the major episodes involving him were pretty small in hindsight nevertheless the Thomas arc is one of the most interesting events that happen in regular show because of its volatile direction in temporary feel so the last arc I wanted to talk about was one that happens in season 7 it revolves around two aspects a dome experiment and Rigby's high school education so we start off season 7 with the great episode the dome experiments special actually that's wrong if the season went to start off the right way kinetically it would have but rather than that depending on your definition of premiere it technically started off with the episode dumptown u.s.a a pretty run-of-the-mill plot however that's considered to be a sneak preview considering that it premiered in late June and the rest of the season would start early August a month and some change later with the episode the party Awards a great episode however kind of counterproductive and I'll explain why in a bit the dome experiments special actually airs two more episodes passes who I already mentioned on August 27th 2015 it revolves her on a dome covering the park full of scientists that plan to study the park while the episode has this promise of mystery intrigue and a new chapter of regular show it kind of falls flat in the episode rather than focusing on the dome it focuses on Benson's recollection of the day in which the dome comes down this would be fine except for the fact that the episode revolves around isolating Benson from the same crew just two episodes earlier was showing that even if no one appreciates him or respects him that they respect Benson and appreciate him now you may bring up the fact that maybe the crew is being portrayed as to not care about Benson because of the fact that they find it ridiculous the hyper focus on a trivial manner such as what date the tome is supposed to drop either way it's still a bad thing to them even though as much of a fuss that they throw they seem to get over it uncharacteristically quick because of custom jackets and seeds however the episode makes a crew hypocrites because as much as their show not to care about Benson because of the fact that he's hyper focus on a tiny detail they also care about him so much and we go as far as to spot a fake Benson due to the nuances in how he spoke if that's the case and the crew know Benson so well then why would they expect Benson to get over the tiny details being wrong if you know that he's not known for getting over the fact that tiny details are wrong in fact as a crew who would have done everything together why wouldn't they stick with their boss and why would high five ghost be a great leader yeah in high school he was a cool dude who had a lot of friends but it wasn't because of his leadership he stumbled into popularity unintentionally Benson has also shown to not really care about his workers which also isn't how Benson rolls and to top it all off this isn't even a regular show style episode I know it looks like it should be but this episode is very generalized and would fit in with any other show at the time suppose Robin and his crew are trapped in a dome that fit around the tower and while others quickly assimilated to their new lifestyle Robin would find something fishy and try to figure out the truth that doesn't sound like it could be an episode right actually it does in fact it was supremest for many episodes including the one I talked about the bottle episode I wanted to sing a new song forget Teen Titans go for a second let's go back to what I talked about with the general aesthetic of regular show the art style the license music the episode structure the fantasy touches the 80s influence again if you look at this I can see how you would go this looks like a regular show episode because it has the art style however let's look at this a little deeper yes this has fancy touches again the art style this is a very futuristic episode for a show that's well known for going into the past in fact they don't even handle the episode in a way that portrays to them what the future would be from the past time like how the 80s would have viewed the future there is no 80's influence with a lot of this being inspired by under the dome a show that was airing the exact same time as regular show and the episode structure was completely alien it didn't have the montage where the main character did something for the plot it didn't have the moment when a normal occurrence has swapped over to the fantasy aspect and most importantly it didn't have the love for the park and freedom hell Mordecai and Rigby actually help out the park this is our regular show and I would even argue that this isn't even what you would consider to be a modernized version of the style that we got yes you would need to innovate and adjust to keep things from being sale that doesn't exactly mean that any change is a good change overall I may need to dedicate this arc to a video to save time but this episode is atrocious we would continue on the Rigby arc the Eileen plan a very heartwarming episode that shows Rigby going back to high school just to become the brilliant man that Eileen wanted back in the day it's not as straining on Rigby like with lift with your back a fantastic performance by Rigby but it does well with this concept the only part I don't like is we go to the Regular Show school of running away from a simple conversation a dance show to bring you soup if you're going to confront Rigby then why would Eileen run deeper into the cave you've clearly answered the cave from an entrance so to just go deeper into the cave fall and somehow even though it's depicted to the audience that Eileen felt through a hole there's a magic exit at the end it's honestly decent looking at these episodes they don't really show a promise for the season or the arc but let's continue on with hello China I have a very shocking announcement I'm gonna go to China and teach English for a month Benson do you even know any Chinese no this is an interesting episode that for the most part follows the issue of just being this average episode there's nothing here that really engages with me except for a tiny moment within the episode that I'll explain later this episode revolves around Benson getting this ridiculous change of heart wanting to leave the park and teach English in China for a year so much about this episode doesn't make sense why did the children in China love Rigby but the children in America hate Rigby how does Benson get this job and Rigby is immediately on the roll call why would they care about passing a test because Rigby said so moreover how come these episodes seem so regular you know I think that's the problem these episodes don't have that special sauce that made its first five the six seasons amazing the only engaging part is this you're still making the same mistakes as back home do you really want to have flown halfway around the world only to find out you're always gonna be the same no matter where you go besides this it's a nothing episode that continues the journey of Rigby only needing one credit to pass the class then we get you Blonsky which has been the worst episode of them all so far literally there are no redeeming qualities about this episode it poses us a Rigby gets over his bully episode but it's not it's a vanilla plan episode that has a very predictable structure there's no fantasy elements heck there isn't even really any 80s references it's an episode that any show can do and and if I look enough it probably has been done better what I dislike about this most is well Jablonski a cardboard cutout bully who has no interesting qualities built on this cliche trait of still living in his glory days it's mentioned a handful of times and shown zero times in his actions the climax is boring and once again this seems too regular but Rigby gets his final credit to pass so that's something oh look we have a romance episode next Rigby goes to prom and hopefully they don't do the exact mistake as though bro would you Joe pipe down I'm trying to polish my picture of my prize and they do the exact same mistake as the episode I just watched Rigby's father is just jump Lansky there's such a samey structure here that it's so off-putting I honestly wonder why no one has talked about this this entire season is so alienated from the style of Regular Show I don't know what happened but I thought maybe a Rigby and Eileen episode would never fail but here we are I do think that the Rigby and Eileen parts were at least watchable but oh boy do I get a fantastically bad episode no matter don't push this button we're as hello China Jablonski and Rigby goes to prom were in offensively bad the button is offensively bad so remember the dome experiment where Benson was extremely out of character which led the decisions that just prolong the inevitable well that episode is like high score and fuzzy dice compared to this crap storm the dome gets placed back over the park again and Benson just resets at a time where he never called out maelard on his actions thus making us watch the same episode again we have Benson not trusting people and this time the antagonist makes it crystal clear that they are evil and no one does anything about it for once they're actually acting like pawns it's such a shame that I cannot go into detail even though this video is already so long but I want to talk about this season it's one of the worst seasons I've seen from such a great show and I watched spongebob gumball Fairly OddParents king of a hill it's unfunny it actively punishes you the more you watch it every time you ask why or guess what nothing gets answered so why are you even watching this imagine watching these episodes as they premiere I'd be one of the most frustrated fans of the series I'm beginning to think that people dropped off from the show before this so many people don't know it happened here and that's why people enjoy Regular Show as a series and I think that the whole thing was good hold me to it season 7 remind me of it I want to discuss this in detail but then there's pam-i-am Benson hangs out with the dome worker named Pam that's all you need to know then we get the finale Rigby's graduation day special and only now do I realize why am i doing a generalized version of the fall of Regular Show one of the most acclaimed show's last decade I realized that if anyone's going to believe me if I say season seven has actually been absolutely horrible I'm going to have to show you so guess what scrapped the fall that I was going to do this is what I'm going to do now we're going to cover the last episode the finale rig V's graduation Day special as the fall so let's get into the fall this is when we get to the height of these issues their regular feel for the show the lack of questions answered in an arc the same a structure that happens in every episode the just-because attitude spent towards important issues that dangling of potential moments just to rip them away from more regular moments all of this comes to a peak in the episode Rigby's graduation day special I know we're so long into this video but I want to dissect this more than just a paragraph so sit back this episode starts with a dandelion blown by Hi five ghost which is funny because as it blows in the wind you see other characters doing things of their personality pops catching butterflies muscle man and Starla stuffing each other's faces and skips fixing his car but then you see Hi five ghost just blowing a dandelion even though he doesn't have many if any episodes where this is a thing it shows you that with over a hundred episodes at this point Hi five ghost is still underdeveloped as a personality as the dome workers are packing to leave Benson is going to ask Pam out and Mordecai and Rigby are chilling on the roof gaming I'm graduating tomorrow and we got partay you ready for my grand party dude of course I'm on the planning committee cool man you can definitely see the attitude between a normal Mordecai response and this response it's very underwhelming and it falls suit with how Mordecai has been acting in Eileen flat screen and left with their back where there's clearly a fundamental shift in Rigby a Mordecai's dynamic Mordecai has been relying on the fact that at least he isn't Rigby but this is not the Rigby from more smarter this is the Rigby that is going to graduate from high school and that means Mordecai has less excuses it's actually the one part of this season that is subtle that they keep consistent and honestly it is only hurt water Kai's character more than helping because over this season having him just be as that guy is going to get annoying it's going to get old and without redeeming episodes that showed that he's just sour on that point he just comes across as a character who was really tarnished this season so the twist in this episode is that Rigby must deliver a graduation speech on live TV which naturally freaks him out throughout this we see a very optimistic Rigby a change from the angry lazy high school dropout that we all knew I understand that we needed a conflict and it can just be 22 minutes of Rigby graduating with no pushback however there's a couple key components missing - just turn Mordechai on a whim like this was naturally going to cause some whiplash maybe I would accept it if his friends were ostracizing him and made it seem like now he's going to be the odd man out but literally no one has treated him differently they're just giving the graduation more attention for the same reason that anyone gives a graduation more attention because it's a graduation in fact if anything they don't react with apathy or anger to the new Mordecai but actually confusion when Mordecai makes it clear that he doesn't think this party should be a big deal it's all this really necessary I mean graduating from high schools like the least a person can accomplish but it's a big deal for Rigby I can't believe I have to explain this to him he's your best friend dude see confusion because Saddam they understand that this is Rigby we're talking about here this is not something that he could just roll out of bed and do it's a dedication so it makes Mordecai look uncharacteristically jerkish Mordecai would need more justification of portrayed his perspective better and it's just not here not only that but come on it's the last episode of the season I know what's going to happen and even though it's a very predictable way to get Mordecai to the ceremony they even mess that up meanwhile Benson is looking for Pam and he just uses the right words to convey the pain and agony of being just away from his one true love for so long ah what Oh spoken like a heartbroken soul another problem with this episode is says they keep coming back to Benson but there's nothing there he's going to find Pam they're gonna speak anyway so you have to make this journey entertaining and they don't because they are most definitely operating on that same logic that you know that Benson will find Pam Mordecai would then blow offering the as he's freaking out telling him that he's busy I don't like to say that because this is peak running away from your problems which I do not like from Regular Show forget when Ilene ran in the cave forget when Margaret ran from Mordecai and a cold forgetting Merry Christmas Mordecai where Mordecai just kept trying to get away from the situation and it was so annoying Mordecai is literally written so just run away when it's pretty clear that at any time he can sit down and deal with this this is not tension to me this is annoying come on dude you gotta do this for yourself I can't do everything for you I've been doing stuff for myself all spring I haven't needed your help all spring now that one time I do and you're not doing anything for me at all yeah that's right I'm not doing anything for you for Rigby to handle Mordecai like this so well shows the growth and diminishment of their respective characters it's almost like he was waiting for an excuse for Rigby the flip out so he can go oh well you shouldn't have flipped out on me when Rigby has been so accommodating to this sass again maybe this could have worked if you made Mordecai a bit more human and explained things but because he showed off to both the characters and the viewer I honestly couldn't care less for his behavior it's not like Rigby is not going to want to do dumb things with his bro anymore after he graduates he's still going to be here it's just that he's slowly moving up in the world and doing something for his girlfriend mind you which is something that's completely okay nothing is holding her back nothing changes Rigby's perspective of Mordecai and no one's treating Mordecai any differently or Rigby any differently so this honestly comes across as Mordecai being a jerk we're gonna bring every drop of sentiment from this kid in 5 4 3 2 oh and where did this come from so remember how I said they'd even mess up this part of Mordecai coming back to this ceremony think about this for a second Mordecai is a afterthought to his own explanation of his attitude they bundle it in with the pep talk so you don't even really get to understand Mordecai side more than I didn't want you to be successful but now I do when did he get the soda by the way did he throw it out and then get it and then wait for Rigby to mess up in order to offer it to him because he only had this change of heart when he saw a Rigby struggle which was miles and miles past when he threw the soda ow so it's not like he went back to get it within the span of what like a couple of minutes the speech was alright not as good as the one Benson game at the party Awards which fits better as a Season Finale speech than this but I get it it's supposed to play up the cheesy inspirational bit but it's also a built up 2 season finale that has a major shift towards everything so this excuse doesn't fly with me also if you blinked for one second you might have miss Eileen running out of college this scene is actually very important they literally spent more time with Benson bragging about Pam then Eileen running back to the house beautiful animation on Rigby you can see they went all out here also a nitpick and I don't care Margaret Starla Rigby's family and the crew we're all not in the same row on the bleachers I don't know but we better check it out in case Pam came back I mean in case the scientists I mean Pam imagine me shot up into space because your boss has a crush on someone but yes they run into the dome and in all fairness the crew does play up the eventual launch by showing a beautifully animated shot of the camera rotating to see all of them push the button together however yes they get shot up into space because Benson wants a girlfriend essentially that's the big twist here mr. maelard also never explains his actions so far in this episode because why explain anything why explain why Rigby's father went from being angry for wearing a tux because he didn't see this as important to being super proud of his son in the same ceremony why explain why Benson would ask Pam to attend the graduation party and not the graduation which would have fundamentally changed everything why explain how Mordecai actually has some problems that can be solved in this episode and refuses to do so nope because people see space and I think whoa cool without going into the logistics why should I care if they get shot up in the space also how come the only thing Mordecai did with urgency in his 22 minute episode was get back to the dome even when skips me at a great point that they didn't have to go back to the dome this science workers were packing up they were done all of this on top of the bare minimum in the fantasy and 80's aspect a semi structure that I've seen for about 10 episodes in this season and let's just spice it up with the irony that Eileen got to the house early even though Pam could have done the exact same thing because in this episode she did so but whatever barren space so regular show in space obviously they freaked out about being in space and confusingly it's Mordecai who was the most composed one to get them back on their feet the crew alongside Aileen takes stock of everything trying to find a signal and get supplies in case they may be here for a few days so pops and Eileen how about nothing well we found an unusual amount of small foods baby carrots baby corn and some fingerlings so we only have dirt vegetables eat baby food well what did you guys find actually you should tell them about the meat locker which has a bunch of frozen meat in it sounds like you're trying to keep it all for yourself so remember when I said that Mordecai was the one who seemed the most composed well space carts entered a chat and now they're goofing off it would have been an easier transition if they were to acknowledge that they shouldn't goof off and succumb to the awesomeness of the space card slowly so they figure they can take these space cards to a satellite for a better signal however remember this scene of the carts going into space they are standing in this spot with no helmets however it is very clear that there's no oxygen here so Mordecai and Rigby get a text saying trust no one very ominous and they won't tell the crew at least in this episode the climax is pretty lame with Mordecai and Rigby essentially crashing and muscle man and fives having to save them it had some interesting developments like seeing fives and muscles fight to use a joystick our Rigby and Benson fighting but when skip saves the two duo's by opening the moon door only then is there oxygen in a dome and it's a thing it's pretty confusing I also didn't enjoy how sloppy the writing is with them fighting and arguing then temporarily stopping the fighting and arguing and panicking just us all the plot it's almost as if the people who are writing this believe that those two things can't mix they meet another floating ship and we get into episode 2 whoa whoa whoa sorry we didn't know anyone was in here so these robots entered a ship and come across as nice guys when they are harvesting the plants in the dome for some black market I loved how when the twist comes they say it rather bluntly as if the average person couldn't figure out that they were stealing remember the one thing they say about regular show was that it was very mature for its time it's a tried and true plot where of course everyone but the people who saw corruption see them as completely good with them winning nothing in return seemingly it takes these other guys who probably came from the basement order moon roof considering that the actual entrance that a dome seems to be occupied and a giant in-your-face robot for people to finally understand that these robots should not be trusted I guess you can chalk this up to the crew thinking that Mordecai and Rigby are being paranoid but I cannot see that as smart writing considering that if anyone wants to get off the dome the most it's Mordecai and Rigby considering how season seven went for them so they would take every opportunity if they think it's worth it Mordecai and Rigby are done but they aren't written to be self-destructive in dire situations those robots really are as bull it's like my father always told me if someone's being nice to you they probably have ulterior motives it comes across as insulting when one of your main characters is completely self-aware with how you probably shouldn't trust someone's overly nice gesture at face value and then completely trust someone's overly nice gesture at face value episode 3 has some finally get rescued for the spark initiative with a volunteer to create a space park and train for something that's classified for some confusing reason after nearly dying in space for some people twice they're all pumped to be a part of spark Benson the only one here who is acting in character doesn't want to volunteer for this why can't Benson see that this is gonna be really cool you were all ripped away from your normal life on earth from your family's loved ones and basic freedom without your consent from a boss or father that just wants more money and you're confused as to why Benson wouldn't want to just live a new life voluntarily so then they act as if the freaking out in Episode one was silly and for nothing muscle man what about Starla Starla would be proud besides I know our love will stand the test of time if the casein why did you need to call your wife so Benson decides to leave and go back to earth where spoilers it was actually the simulation room he never left the ship and this was a simulation of what would happen if he went back to earth there are so many major problems I have here couldn't it just be a simulation that's designed to convince Benson to stay on the ship you're telling me there's only one way that Benson going back to earth would go what if he answered the reporters what if you found a job he likes what if he decided to work with another Park this all seems ultra contrived to make Benson finally be on board this episode has the characters at their most uncharacteristic why would any of them be so on board with this if you take their history into account this is brute force writing at its laziest so episode four just deals with the crappy love triangle that offers nothing in the grand development of the story wife ones husband husband says that wife only wants necklace husband and wife fight wife gets caught husband saves wife and they live happily ever after this is not regular show however I do want to say that this episode said that Mordecai and Rigby's spaced credit balance is negative 200 space crime and yet they only receive 500 each how much do these cost 500 space creds if I had a dollar for the amount of inconsistencies so far then I would be able to buy hover boots for the whole crew Episode five deals with them rescuing a wallet it's most exciting part happens when Mordecai almost marries a praying mantis and wonders how there could be a king if all the marriages end up with the husband being consumed look I don't know everything ah no they don't have an answer for this but maybe a youtube comment will nothing happens that's important to the seasonal arc in fact nothing happens in Episode six either but episode seven is different but you have a minute to fill out this form name an address this is when we get pops seeing a mystery man this mystery man would be integral to seasoning pops would have bad dreams about the man no matter how much they try to solve the problem even though the retro references are ones that I know and appreciate I can't help but think that they would have a little more nuance riding wise we find out that this alien was a messenger for someone who looks like pops it's actually a fairly told story that involves a lot of focus story riding with each character being in character for once good job we get a lot of episodic moments all the way until episode 25 space escape it's actually a very cool episode that shows the first instance of anti pops who so far has not revealed his motives but just once the capture pops this is when the episode shifts pops into the main character of the show with everyone else sort of playing a supporting role he decides to not escape while he can as pops is a type of guy who wants to save everyone on the ship the episode after shows the gravity of the situation having a bounty hunter on their tail showing how valuable Pop's is we get to the 21st episode the ice team were decaying travels to find the origin of pops mr. maelard found him when he crashed landed on earth and took care of him like he was his own son he came with the scroll that explained that his job was to combat the evil counterpart of him it was actually a very heartwarming part of the episode the only part I don't like about it is that it had to be littered with three other people who kept flinging themselves into danger it's too late for me just jump it I could give it a try I suppose the episode is exaggerating the whole sacrifice to save yourself sort of deal but considering how this season ends it's kind of self-defeating to portray this so close to the end I'll explain that later so now pops is training remember guys night when pops had the show endurance to be one of the guys this is basically that but a lot better we get to see pops pushed into his I don't want to say limit kind of like 3/4 of the way limit he's trained by doing mundane things as the crew have a very disapproving opinion on pops ish trainer Earl Earl is a very interesting character he sent the train pops as he son all the other times the universe was at stake which is apparently many times even though billions of years is a duration between these fights it's shown that anti pops can destroy everything very easily if Pop's does not fight back he's still in this state where he does not wish to fight this we'll come back later we get to probably the best episode so far no train no gain in which pops is shown to go through training montages it's a film technique in which a collection of shots cut with wipes and dissolves in quick succession is used to condense space and time which leads to him being a stronger version of himself it's a meta episode that actually breaks down the concept of a montage I recommend it considering how it's a very creative way to animate a simple training montage and it's also very well written it's funny how the episodes in which they have a focus are generally the ones that I like not the ones where there's 30 things going on at once knowing fully we'll of each other in the episode kill him with kindness a throwback to the second episode where the Brobot said that phrase it shows that pops really wants to settle things peacefully and not use violence however his brother would show that he has no capacity for any good-natured actions and nearly finished pops off if it weren't for his friends distracting him and Earl sacrificing himself fulfill your destiny pops [Music] it is actually a very intense scene it shows how anti pops is nothing like pops at all and shows how pops is truly all good wanting to resort to violence only if need be but never has the first option however it is as naivety towards this situation that has severely burnt him it is then when the recovering pops meets the seer in the midst of the other formats HD DVD blu-ray real she seems like the type of person who oversees the entire universe of regular show started off really strong but when Mordechai started date Margaret things leveled off a little I was always more of a CJ fan myself every Halloween with a spike in interest but lately that's been a little weak as well to me she represents the viewer as if they were in the show her calm attitude towards the situation gave her a very different feel than the characters we have seen so far she instructs pops to finished a deed as it has been done before and will be done again after a nice party and recollection of memories it's time for the big final fight they traveled to lolly land which brings everything back to full circle we see the remaining civilians of lolly land are still not fully recovered from the last fight this leads into anti pups being a little late which allows for a sneak attack to be arranged and that's what they spend most of Part 1 doing setting up the trap only for anti pops that come out on phase from they're actually really brutal attack showing his massive power I should also note that pops once more tries to settle things peacefully we finally get to see some major action within the second part as now many of the minor characters from before have come to fight the good fight you're about to get a whole lot of exclusive HD content [Music] dude's tawdry meet up with your pup's mentions more than once in this part alone that he still wants to settle things peacefully the action here is pretty well and I think it could be worth the wait however in all fairness if you take some liberties and skipping out on some of the episodic parts of season 8 it's a much smoother experience I think the transformation while nice was a little I guess the fighting giant robots was and may so be a big thing but maybe if it was better choreographed then we'd be able to get something you know else goes really big to show their dominance but it's actually really small deep down but yes muscle man and fives die which lasers of pops finally witnessing someone that he's close to get destroyed by anti pops which finally lights the fire in him he finally realizes the weight of this situation fully as many characters get swept away and now it's just pops anti pops Mordecai and Rigby the latter to fly directly into the twos fists which leads us into the final part the final part makes a full circle back to the first episode the power even having the same title card which can be confusing to a few it's surreal because it has the old animation and switches it a new animation pretty cleverly in fact of all the time travelling and dimension warping I think this might be my favorite because it involves such a slick way of getting them to remember even with the time capsule that was just dug into it proved to be a source of continuity that was planted pun intended for it to flourish when the time was right pops is also still defending more than fighting which is in character and shows the amount of restraint even to a god-like lethal level the show starts to deteriorate which shows the civilization of the end of the show having pups fly through the letters and post-it notes however the greatest part is quite literally the end of the fight I'm gonna sing let me go I'm gonna flash you and enough so I'm not going to let go no y-you quite simply it wouldn't have done the show justice just to say all of this however with both of them gone time moves on normally without resetting we have everyone aged and leave to live on their own separate lives to me this moment represents what a lot of us think about when we think about how the characters would go on past the end of any show I think it wasn't needed but it shows the level of care from the staff to show more than they need to because of the connection we have with the characters it ends with the VHS tape ejecting with the regular show label and that's is the end of regular show this finale a regular epic final battle was the last episode in production airing January 16th 2017 to the largest audience of the season over 1.3 million viewers eight seasons 261 episodes JG quintal would cement his legacy by creating one of the most popular Cartoon Network shows of the 2010s and possibly of all time since then Quintel has been working on another show it's about a millennial couple the young daughter and their divorce friends who live with them and in Los Angeles suplex set to air on HBO max it looks to be what regular show would be if we're on a non kid-friendly network it has been announced as early as May 2017 and appears to be coming out in 2020 it's not regular show but it is close enough thank you for watching take care laughs out
