[Music] explain the reason why we line the walls before why we line walls before we pay so people think intensive think that we line walls took over really badly damaged walls and walls with a lot of imperfections they choose to learn walls instead of doing the necessary preparation now that's one thing we wanna clear up straightaway that is totally not the reasons of what line walls and so if you come to a situation where you think do you know what I can't be bothered doing a hole the filling I can't be bothered doing all the sudden to get the walls in good condition and make them good along the walls instead now that is the time when you do not use lining paper goes that is not the reason so I know people say it outward but if you're in the trade you know what you're doing it's a no-no now all walls must be practice before any painting store before any wallpaper in stone this is the most important thing in painting them decorating if you cut that corner if you miss that little detail oh the end product will never be able end product it's all in the preparation guys so I just want to explain the reasons why we use lining paper so first of all if I come so this is a good example this room has been stripped it was previously wallpapered before now they want the walls need better aiming for the tends to movement so I've stripped it back I analyzed the the walls and I've come to the conclusion that the walls don't need any major filling there is space for what you can see on these walls is a coat of contract amount which is what they put on these walls when the first bill and he's basically it's not finishing plan it's just the paint not the contractors put on over new pasta and I've done another video on that everybody about silica or a misko knew and of a new plasma and porous services you can take a look at video now that's all that is so when the new tenants do move into the new properties after twelve months is recommended you don't decorate for twelve months because of settlement and stuff like that then we can go over with the finish coats which give the walls a better protection so yeah like I say that's a very very thin coat of paint now this is the only type of imperfection that lining paper is going to cover but even so the walls need sanding and so on and on another video I've actually demonstrated we sanding with an orbital sander just to further off the edges if these any rough edges of painting on the wall and you get a nice smooth finish there very very slight imperfections that is the only time learning paper is going to cover long short so like I say this is a good situation where line paper can go on now the lining paper that you use is important as well there is different grades of mining paper the gold from 600 which is very very thin to up to 2,000 which is like cardboard it's very thick I don't ever recommend you ever recommend using the thicker ones especially if you're going to be painting over because the thicker you go with the lining paper the more chances the seizure is very important so for me I would recommend not going over 1200 grade which is what this is today girls that's a 1200 grade lighting paper now this is a wolf of mining paper so this will when you paste the paper it will expand and then as it dries it will contract so you always allow that's what soaking times come coming useful so I will do another video on soaking times but that is essential that you read the instructions you will allow the paper to soak for a minimum of 70 minutes with a so leave it for a minimum of five minutes before I put the paper on the wall is important the paper expose the paper and then it starts to dry it shrink the paper to expand and that will do all jobs where I choose to line the walls don't forget walls have to be in good condition if these walls were in bad condition they would get filled and sanded they would be in good condition before any planning later on so I'll go through the reasons why I'm alone so one of the main reasons of joining the walls painted and we would line the walls if there was inconsistent touches of filler if there was inconsistent like this you've got one color and then another color so not too long the walls because they even finish to go over with your charms and paint finish so you're not gonna have a patchy look with two coats of pen because the lining papers system the same all the way around a little one is consistent porosity so when you're using wallpaper paste and you put the wallpaper paste on the wall if it's an old house it's got original walls you've got different levels of porosity and absorption on the wall so when you put your pace which is the same all the way around the wallpaper is gonna the walls are going to absorb the pace differently in different parts of the wall you're not going to get the same even everywhere so that's another reason why we use lining paper is falling system porosity so this is the main reason I would say is which is very important so a lot of what wallpapers coming generally two different times they're coming pasted the wall and paste the paper so if you buy wallpaper and it's a paste the wall now if your walls are in good condition and it could be like this this is good enough condition well there's no major if filling required I have a couple of pinholes which you need to fill etcetera etcetera you sum them level you can go straight on so you size the wall if it's not if it's been previously painted before you will have paint residue on the wall you can just dump them down the wall and that is normally sufficient but to the first fatal safe is to think you paste that you're using very thinly and give and go over the wall first you'll see it's sinking and drying really quickly and this just helps single any porous parts on the wall and don't forget you someday etc is refundable you've taught the layer of page stuff so it needs resizing resealing so that's one good example so when we come to do a paste the paper which is the normal standard wallpaper that we should all be familiar with paper so now these papers expand and contract just like the lining paper does but because it's a finished paper it's going on the top and it's going to be seen what we don't want is where we bought the two papers all together we don't want when it shrinks so the gaps or because that's where you're gonna notice it where the two papers mean then gaps all the not slightly all can do all depends on the paper that you use it and those are trades people with even with the vast experience that we have putting wallpaper we don't always know which ones are going to do it which ones I'm gonna do it so we don't know so what we have to do is we will always line the wall and it will give us an assurance because when the paper shrinks the gap will open now what this lining paper does is it's so funny it was on the paper will go a long way just like a normal wall paper so you imagine what this was is if you wallpaper it over you cross lining it so you put wallpaper vertically top to bottom that's how you hang wallpaper but with what we tend to do is what we have to do is we cross line the wallpaper so the wallpaper and the finders are going that way when you put your all paper on top of them finders the cross-hatched so the fibers on the lining paper will counteract the fibers on the finish wallpaper and minimize the amount that that can shrink back because the fibers stuck together and it will stop that's the best way you can explain it that's why we cross line before we hung normal pace the paper wall coverings so the only other one is is color differences if you've got a white or a black ball just for an example and you want all you all the same color now sometimes rather than sticking an expert in colors on that wall sometimes it's easier believe it or not just to line the walls and give it can give the room consistent color so that when you put in your paint on top it's gonna cover in two coats which is a normal system so there's four reasons why we line walls guys not because the walls about don't let anybody tell me about you know you don't know what they're talking about if that's what they're telling you listen to the professionals so that is wine so I hope this helps I hope this explains a few things if you you know think you weren't sure about and so today I'm going to be lining this wall I will do another video on the preparation of lining walls look out for me all the videos there are videos of me walls and so on and so on I'm sorry about my phone's going off and so anyway subscribe please like my videos if you've got any questions please ask I'm here to help everybody I can always do a demonstration on a specific thing that you want to learn about so until then everybody take care I'll see you soon [Music]
