ROG Zephyrus G14 & G16 (2024) - Razer Blade Killers?

I think I found the best laptop for 2024 seriously uh this is probably going to be one of the best selling laptops period because I'm impressed so what am I talking about well right in front of me I have two amazing laptops from Asus more specifically the RG zephrus G14 and g16 I had to give huge props to Asus for flying over to Toronto and briefing us on these two new designs uh they're super excited about this guys because uh they've completely resigned it from top to bottom and they're you know some of the new features are pretty cool but let's Ki things off with the r zis G14 now as you all know G14 has been one of the best selling gaming laptops I mean we all love G4S the first G14 was just a banger laptop with the ryzen chip but this one over here is the 2024 model and as you can see it's completely redesigned from top to bottom so first things first the material choice on both the G14 and the g16 have been revamped from mag aluminum to CNC aluminum so the whole chassis you'll find a combination of regular aluminum and CNC aluminum and that alone makes a world of a difference in terms of the fit and finish of the product uh it feels like a razor blade a proper razor blade 14 competitor this time they've also taken a step back from adding too much flare into the top ID or the top lid of the laptop so as you can see you don't see any of those um holes that are covering the chassis the anime Matrix display is gone but instead they've actually replaced it with a slash LED Matrix light bar which can be customized to RG Armory crate which I think is a really nice character it adds a nice character to the laptop and yeah I mean it comes in two colors you've got this really nice silver chassis and the um grayish color tone I'm not exactly sure what it's called probably is Eclipse gray I personally like the white model but the black one is also really cool Earth she is beautiful I have my favorite spots in nature to observe and visit and I'm sure you do too and I feel we all need a little beauty in our daily computer life something that reminds you a case can be special too feeling proud of your process to get there partially to Showcase your lifestyle with this one component that is surprisingly organic both in design and Hardware fitment it's not just the case it's a Terra available only on our beautiful Earth I want to touch base on the smaller detail dets of both these chassis because it actually makes a world of a difference when you're using this on an everyday basis so first and foremost the G14 and the g16 they're thinner and lighter compared to the previous generation the G14 is 4 mm thinner and 200 g lighter the g16 is 6 mm thinner and 450 G lighter compared to its previous generation so really good stuff in terms of portability that's definitely a huge bonus taking a look at the interior space and once again Asus has completely redesigned the keyboard deck so they've relocated the front-facing speaker grills from the bottom to the left and right hand side so it's close to the actual keyboard which definitely helps with sound projection they've added more speaker grills and they've expanded the tweeters in fact uh Asus did mention that these are probably going to be one of the best sounding speakers on a Windows gaming laptop now I did take a quick listen at the g16 and they did mention that the drivers need to be tuned up a little bit but they actually sound really good so super excited about that can't wait to test out the actual production model when I get it in the studio but yeah good stuff Asus now the switch from magnesium alloy to CNC aluminum allowed Rog to expand the size of the key caps so they're slightly bigger but they've also didn't they haven't taken the actual characteristics of the switches they still feel awesome compared to previous generation I love how they have great amount of travel feedback good sounding characteristics and yeah it's just an overall well-designed layout huge huge upgrade compared to the previous generation I can't emphasize that upgrade part because this is just a insane looking laptop the trackpad has also received a generous upgrade this year they' made it slightly bigger on both the G14 and the g16 uh the surface you're still getting Precision Glass and they fine-tuned the left and right buttons which actually sound a little bit more satisfying compared to uh last gen which is really good stuff you can only use those two bottom portions for clicks the top area actually doesn't do any clicks and it has I mean it doesn't really have any haptic feedback but it still sounds so good all right so let's talk ports and what can I say Asus has finally listen to our prayers so first and foremost you are completely saying goodbye to the barrel style DC connector in fact now it's a slim proprietary reversible power connector which is awesome and it actually just looks really cool um and it supports fast charge so you can charge the laptop from 0 to 50% in 30 minutes which is great you get HDMI couple of USBC and USB type A ports audio jack back and a Micro SD card reader I really wished if the G14 came with a full sizee SD card reader but if you do need one do not be afraid because g16 has a fullsize SD card reader that is hs2 compliance so if you're a Creator this is a pretty great option and I got to say the g16 is also kind of growing on me because I love the size you know you're getting bigger speakers trackpads really huge but yeah the fact that it's comes the fullsize SD card slot is that's that's pretty big moving on to the displays R did make the shift from mini LED nebula HDR to OLED on both the g16 and the G14 so the g16 comes with a Quad HD Plus 240 HZ panel and the G14 is a 3K 120 HZ panel uh they're both 16 X10 so you've got plenty of real estate to you know get on and game and also get into productivity and if you want to create videos this is just a gorgeous panel to look at I actually love the fact that it's super sharp you got the deeper blacks and it's glossy it's not matte but to be honest I feel like glossy screens are just a tad bit more sharper compared to matte and you know it just ties up the whole laptop as a premium brand um which I guess is pretty good trade-off now in terms of peak SDR brightness levels they're both going to be around 400 nits which is the usual number that we're seeing with olet panels uh which again is not as bright as what You' get with mini LED display but the trade-off is of course the gorgeous just you know colors and just the overall visual experience so yeah I think it's a pretty cool change and I think you're also going to like it now when you hear about OLED the first thing that comes to my mind is okay e it's probably going to have burning right well RG has implemented certain Technologies within software to prevent that from happening like having pixel sense or pixel shift technology so oler panels especially with modern ones I don't think Burnin should be that much of an issue and again these are some of the best panels that you're getting on a laptop uh it's in collaboration with Samsung so it's some of the best stuff that's out there now let's get into the meat and potatoes of this video and that's the specs of both these laptops so the g16 is going to feature Intel's meteor Lake CPUs uh particularly I believe it's going to be the core Ultra 9 chips uh and the G14 is going to feature amd's hog Point CPUs so this one in particular is going to feature the ryzen 98945 HS at 35 wats with the AI cat phases if you know what that means now in terms of the GPU we're not going to be getting any new chips this year guys unfortunately we're still sticking to the RTX 4000 series um so the G14 starts with a 4050 goes all the way up to 4090 and then the g16 I believe is going to start at a 4070 4080 and you get a 4090 variant I'm going to leave the tgps respectively on the display so you can take a look at it but yeah these laptops they have incredible specs packed under the hood I'm really excited to test out the g16 because of the meteor Le CPU since it's a brand new architecture and Intel has built in some efficiencies into that chip which should theoretically mean better battery life now while we're on the topic of battery life uh because these new laptops are thinner and lighter Asus did take a slight hit with the battery on the uh G14 so it's gone down from 75 I believe to 73 W hours and the g16 give me 1 second is going to feature a 90w battery um so it's still going to we probably going to have really good battery life but that's something that we have to validate when we get the production samples in the studio for the full review so definitely stay tuned for that you know so stay subscribed and lastly I just want to quickly go over the upgradability options on both these laptops now G14 only comes with a single m.2 slot which is already going to be populated with your operating system and unfortunately there's no access to the memory slots because the memory is going to be slded on on to the PCB now you might be wondering eer why did they do that but hey guys you got to think about it this way they had to completely redesign the chassis from top to bottom to make it super thin and pack so much performance into this form factor and so you are going to make sacrifices when it comes to upgradability that's just something that you have to expect now if you absolutely need upgradeable memory rogg will happily still offer and they're still expected to sell the previous generation G14 and g16 alongside the newer models but obviously at a discounted price point so you do have that option if you really need that the g16 also has onboard memory but you do have access to two m.2 slots which does allow you for storage expansion I do want to point out that the 4080 and the 4090 skew on the G14 and the g16 are going to feature The Vapor chamber cooling system uh with dual fans whereas the other SKS are going to feature asus's new triplet of fan design which essentially consists of three fans uh with you know generous amount of heat pipes that's good enough to push power to both the CPU and the GPU now if you're wondering about pricing both these laptops are expected to sell around the same price point as the previous generation although as I mentioned earlier the previous generation is going to be slightly discounted so they're not going to be as significant or significantly expensive compared to last gen uh I believe the starting price for the G14 is supposed to be around 1,600 I'm not exactly don't quote me on that um until I you know have the full review for you guys the 49d SPC do version on the g16 is around $3,200 I think that's what um the repset Rog were able to share that's pretty much it guys those are the new G14 and the g16 from R I am super excited to test out these laptops I think you guys are going to love it because just the from the moment if you're coming from a first gen or second gen G14 and if you pick up the brand new G14 or even the g16 it is a world of difference you're going to feel it when you hold it uh and I think Asus they just knock themselves out of the park obviously the performance stuff that's going to come later on but yeah I am super optimistic about how these things are going to
