howdy and welcome to another free webcast Western brought to you by Wild West toys the only manufacturer of american-made Western toy cat guns the movie you're gonna see next is called the proud rebel it's the only Alan Ladd movie that we have the rights to post Alan Ladd is also one of my favorite western stars he's in the top 10 in my way of thinking although in Alan Ladd's way of thinking he was quoted as saying he didn't know why the success that happened in film because of his size and stature Alan Ladd is most notably remembered for shame and rightfully so Shane was a fantastic western one of the best movies ever made but Alan Ladd did westerns before and after Shane one of my personal favorites is a movie called Brandon made in 1950 and that's a very colorful Western very colorful scenery it's it's a wonderful Western to see and Alan Ladd plays a fantastic part if you can pick up the movie branded or find it somewhere to watch I would recommend it it is a fantastic western movie but Alan Ladd also made other wonderful Western movies he made a few movies after this one proud rebel is also in some in with my one of my favorite Alan Ladd movies it's not quite as spectacular as some of his other westerns but it is in Technicolor and it was directed by Michael Cortese and it is a really good very well-done movie and you'll see David Ladd in this movie David is Alan lads youngest son and David was also with him in another movie called the big land which is also another fantastic Western that he's in with Virginia Mayo Alan Ladd had kind of a rough childhood his father died when he was four and his mother had a rough time from then on Alan Ladd also was known as tiny when he was very small and when he got grown up also and he started a hamburger stand of all things called tinies tinies burgers I believe but also in this movie is Olivia de Havilland Olivia de Havilland was in probably the most notable thing that we all remember her for was the Errol Flynn Robin Hood movie and Olivia de Havilland in that movie is writing a very famous horse she's riding trigger if you look close you'll see that and this movie is just a wonderful good family movie I'm not going to explain the plot to you because you'll see it soon enough but Alan Ladd and Olivia de Havilland and David Ladd all shine very much in this movie also in this movie are henry hall very colorful person no matter what movie he's in he was in the Jesse James movie with Tyrone Power had a colorful part in that very over-the-top and then there's Dean Jagger Dean Jagger plays a pretty good bad guy in this movie you don't like him at all and then there's some other colorful characters in this movie that you'll enjoy watching but also notably is the dog the movies quite a bit about the dog I believe the dogs real name is King and in this movie his name is Lance and Lance has come from a kennel in Georgia and it's a southern kennel that is gone now really because of the war and apparently Lance is one of the last out of that kennel and he is a fantastic sheepdog and that a lot of things circle around that in this movie get ready and enjoy the proud rebel with Alan Ladd and Olivia de Havilland and we'll talk a little bit more about it when it's done [Music] morning sir you talking about the next town is aberdeen aberdeen not scotland it's got settled that's how i come and got the name there's two miles over that rise they're pretty big town no big enough to have a good doctor I hope to tell you man or animal doc Davis is the best got his office right across the street from the barbershop can't miss it thank you sir just a minute that Bridal if my eyes are as sharp as I think they are you're a southerner that's right well now ain't that funny Here I am headed south and here you are headed north kinda evens things up well I hear you're going in the wrong direction mister here's a lot of money to be made down there I don't know anything about scavenging scavenging you're pretty heavy for a grey bag ain't you the war's over mister [Music] there we are come on [Music] surprise [Music] why do [Music] come in [Music] dr. and throw him to the ground yes sir all right you can step down stay on your feet Chandler and hear the verdict and the fact that you were read back nothing to do with my decision the court has days are you done I haven't got $30 all right in 30 days Donna I have a boiler look after that has nothing to do with it most everybody has sentences you got children if you'll give you a little time can stop them I don't want to hold anybody back but I don't want anybody hold me back either the burly's or anybody else I'm just doing this for the boy if you so concerned about the boy why don't you just take him it wouldn't work that's what I thought at first but after watching him no you can't separate them well I know what you're doing I tell you I know people especially Reb drunks they're troublemakers it doesn't look like any troublemaker to me besides the boys have it your own way give me the fine give me the $30 judge I haven't got the money either what's that what's that you say and then I'm saying haven't got the money but I think I might be able to pay you $10 a month when my prop comes in do you mean you deliberately lied to me out there in the courtroom I mean I just couldn't let you separate them now I said I'd pay you the money and I will and besides with somebody to help out the finally begin to pay no whole that far he'd be a guns act better off if you got rid of the place move hit the town and do what be a third or a waitress or an overworked hired girl no I'll stay with the farm Lee you are still a mighty handsome woman and I won't stay young forever this is no laughing matter people are beginning to talk about you and they ain't gonna quit talking under your respectably married people don't tell me about people what am I supposed to do fly riding the arms the first man off in the lawful marriage just to please them poor Linnet we're all alone on that big fun as though it were a crime to live alone because I'm a woman and not a man I'm not a man starved old maid judge morally now about the money later do you know that before the war your father and your brother Ernie were very good friends you wouldn't be doing what you were doing if they coming by in the field she'll be ready for sitting in a few days it's hard to make the ploughed again with the ground surprised it's funny how different the furrow looks when you're siting it over somebody else's plough even if it doesn't belong to you it's a great satisfaction to have a straight furrow heels hood you didn't come in to dinner still on stove guess I wasn't hungry look Chandler I know I said there was a lot of work to do but you don't have to do it all well I want to do as much as I can before before we leave you know of course well if you change your mind about eating you hope you enjoyed the proud rebel starring Alan Ladd and Olivia de Havilland and you probably noticed a cameo by John Carradine as the traveling salesman with the wagon something else about Alan Ladd is the first movie that Audie Murphy was in was an Alan Ladd movie called beyond glory Audie Murphy had a part in that movie as a roommate as a cadet and a roommate about him lads Alan Ladd was nicknamed tiny as a child and the half understand he started was called Tiny's patio and Alan Ladd and his family moved to California around the Great Depression time and Alan did all kinds of things to to help out he delivered papers and picked fruit and did all he could and he was just apparently a pretty good hard worker and then he discovered track and swimming and he was training for the 1932 Olympics when there was an injury that just kept him out of that also Alan Ladd was drafted in 1943 but a ulcer and a double hernia got him discharged Alan Ladd had three children Alan Ladd jr. Elena Ladd and David Ladd and he is the grandfather of Jordan lab although Alan Ladd never enjoyed popularity with the critics he was always a favorite with the audience with people and that's what makes a star critics don't really make a star it's the people in 1947 Alan Ladd ranked 10th in a popularity poll with the motion picture Herald and in 1948 through 1950 he ranked number one thank you for watching the proud rebel brought to you free on the web by Wild West toys if you want to shop with Wild West toys go to WWI gun town calm Wild West toys is the only sure of american-made cat guns you know there was a cap gun a cap gun made back in the 50s that was an endorsement product for Alan Ladd and the cab gun actually said Alan Ladd on the box with his picture and on the gun in the middle that said Alan Ladd not one of his character names like Shane or something like that or like other character names like Matt Dillon or the Cisco Kid or Gene Autry gene was his own self in his movies but Alan Ladd I always played another character but yet it's curious that there was a cap gun made that said Alan Ladd on the cap gun and today it is one of the most desirable and sought-after toy cap guns by collectors y'all have a great day thanks for joining us and we hope to see you again on down the trail
