When I was visiting family in Columbus a few years ago, I had my trumpet with me and a relative was a friend of the tuba player who was going to dot the I that year at the OSU-Michigan game.
He was nice enough to invite me to come participate in some practice and drills. It's incredible how musically well they play considering how quickly they put these shows together (some in a week's time or less) and with such marching accuracy as well. I was also impressed by how nice these guys were to some random 16 year old who just wanted to hang out with TBDBITL.
They're good.
That's got to make for tough decisions for the crowd. I mean there's a game, then the band at half time, when do you pee?
Ohio State should consider donating their band to a team like Southern Miss. Give the poor fans a chance to get excited about something. If not the band, donate the football team. What are they up to? A 19 loss streak?
Man, John Williams has composed some classics.
Well, this makes me feel inadequate..
Its videos like this that really make me wish we actually had a good drill writer.
Every time I see a show like this I wish the MDB would do something half this entertaining, even if just once in a while. I was a band geek in high school, so I know and appreciate how difficult it is to learn new music and drill every few weeks, especially while doing a college workload. However, the demographic for people who would actually enjoy the musical selections of the MDB and the demographic in the stadium are very different. Stevie Wonder isn't who most people under the age of 40 choose to listen to.
I wish we had a cool Marching Band..
As a UofM fan, it pains me to say how awesome that was... But damn that was pretty cool...
