The Ninebot S, S Plus, & S Max | Buyer's Guide

hey everybody it's dylan here with segway of ontario and today i'm gonna break down the ninebot s family and help you decide which one's the best fit for you the ninebot s s plus or the all new s max the ninebot s first landed in north america in 2019 and draws its inspiration from the segway i2 pt or as it's become infamously known as the paul blart segway the ninebot s is much more portable and affordable than the segway i2 likely a major reason why segway has decided to discontinue the i2 lineup and go all in on the s so how do you actually ride a 9 bot s self balancing board the collection of tilt sensors gyroscopic sensors and microprocessors listen to your body's every movement simply lean forward to go forward and lean backwards to stop if you continue leaning backwards after you've come to a stop you go backwards so to come to a complete stop simply stand upright turning is extremely intuitive on a 9 baht as self-balancing bore simply apply pressure with your knees on the knee bar pushing it left or right to turn with the s-max use the steering column to pull either left or right to turn let's start off with the two specs that riders typically care about the most speed and range no one wants to plan their trips around their device's battery life the 9 bot s can get up to 22 kilometers per charge the s plus can get up to 35 kilometers per charge and the s max can get up to 38 kilometers per charge [Music] in terms of top speed for these devices they're pretty comparable the 9 bot s tops out at 16 kilometers an hour whereas the s plus and the s max both top out at 20 kilometers an hour [Music] now it is important to note that these specs are based on a rider under 220 pounds in the case of the s and the s plus in the case of the s max the maximum payload is 187 pounds now you can push that limit but you will notice that the performance of your device differs from the advertised specs next up let's talk portability the 9 bot s comes in at 28 pounds which of the three devices is the lightest it has a handy hand grip on handy hand grip there you go no pun intended which you can grab easily and carry upstairs if necessary the 9v s plus comes in at 36 pounds so a bit heavier than its predecessor but that weight is really because of the larger battery it also has a handy hand grip to be able to carry upstairs if ever needed now the s max is significantly more heavy it comes in just over 50 pounds that being said with the steering column it is quite easy to pull behind you when the device is powered off when going upstairs however it is a bit more difficult all right now it's time to talk tires the ninebot s is equipped with 10 and a half inch pneumatic tires the s plus has 11 inch pneumatic tires now that half inch difference doesn't sound like a whole lot but that accompanied with the s pluses heavier weight makes the s plus feel even smoother and more stable than the 9bot s [Music] with the s max 9bot has introduced entirely new tires to this lineup the s-max is equipped with 10-inch solid hollow tires meaning you're never gonna get a flat tire ever again you might also notice that there is no tread on these tires why you might ask because the s-max has been specifically designed to be equipped onto the 9-bot go-kart pro no tread means even better drifting speaking of go karts let's talk go-kart compatibility [Music] the 9-bot s is fully compatible with the first generation 9 bot go-kart the s-max is compatible both with the first generation go-kart and with the all-new 9 bot go-kart pro you might also be excited to learn that when the s max is paired with the first generation go-kart it enhances its performance to be at the same level as the go-kart pro the 9-bot s plus on the other hand is not compatible with either go-kart not being able to take advantage of these extraordinary accessories might play an important factor in your decision making process now let's talk other cool features with these devices the 9bot s plus comes with a little secret built inside it tucked away inside the device is the smart remote the smart remote can be used to steer your device around while not riding it it also has the follow me function come here boy also built onto the top of the s plus is a camera mount pair that with the smart remote to get dolly style shots at a fraction of the cost now we come to the nine bot s max the s max is the only one of these three devices that comes with a hand controlled adjustable steering column the adjustable steering column on the s max is great for riders four feet four inches tall all the way up to six feet six inches tall there is an option to use knee bar steering with the s max which can be purchased separately and i know it's a small thing but i love the built-in kickstand on the s max the ninebot s as the first generation model doesn't boast anything that the other two models don't also have there is an option to purchase the hand controlled steering column with the 9 bot s but out of the box it comes exclusively with the knee bar the s plus on the other hand has no option to use a hand controlled steering column [Music] of course the final factor to consider in your decision making process is cost all of these costs are canadian dollars as of july 2021 tax is not included as you continue to do your research ask yourself how do i plan on using
