The NBA Logo Needs A Change

the NBA logo the prestigious logo that appears on every Jersey poster and Pisa merchandise the NBA sells the logo itself looks great but the silhouette inside may become very problematic for the NBA Jerry West the logo himself has been quoted as saying he doesn't even want to be the logo anymore so to respect Jerry West's wishes in this video I'm gonna help the NBA out and give my top 5 NBA players of all time that I believe could and should potentially be the new logo of the NBA I made this list based off if the NBA decided this offseason they were going to change the logo who would they change it to realistically so obviously somebody like a LeBron James meets every requirement to represent the NBA but realistically he's still playing in the NBA today at a very high level and it seems very unrealistic that they would make a current player the logo nor do I think they should the same thing can be said about Steph Curry regardless of how impactful he was to the NBA and how much he changed the game it just wouldn't make sense so with that being said let's get into the list starting off with a player who for a long stretch of time was the NBA's all-time leading scorer until some guy in the Lakers had to break his record easily in my opinion the greatest Center to ever play basketball and a resume very few can even imagine Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Kareem was a dominant big man during the 70s and 80s playing 20 years and doing things the league has never seen I think Kareem is a good mention for the new logo because of how highly regarded he is amongst the NBA greats as well as for the fact that out of anybody I could mention Kareem has the easiest trademark silhouette possible for his logo his signature Skyhook people cannot mention Kareem without bringing up the sky hook he perfected and would use constantly and it would be a pretty cool design for his logo being a six-time champion former all-time leading scorer a top three player of all time and a perfect image for the logo Kareem is a very solid choice but I don't think Kareem is who I would go with my next pick is another retired big man that may surprise a few of you I believe one of the best players they could use for the new NBA logo is none other than Shaquille O'Neal Shaq is widely regarded as the most dominant player in the history of basketball he isn't like Kareem in the sense that people rarely mention Shaq in all-time rankings but he still had a absolutely amazing career winning four championships and being one vote away from being the first ever unanimous MVP in league history and again truly being the most dominant player we've ever seen so why do I think Shaq would be a good pick for the logo besides his career accolades well after his retirement Shaq has become a very well-known person to people that don't even watch basketball from his roles and movies to his commercials Shaq is one of the most famous people in the world outside of basketball obviously not that that means everything but it could definitely help his case due to his Global success and marketing ability as well as for the fact that he had a amazing career a problem with Shaq being the logo is obviously what his silhouette would be what first came to mind was him dunking but a center dunking the ball is not a great representation of the league in 2023 I could also see Shaq being the logo causing problems across NBA fans so I don't think Shack is who I would go with either beginning with number three you all probably saw this coming regarded by many as the greatest player to ever touch a basketball Michael Jordan you guys already know the MJ stats so I won't bore you with this long list of achievements but the 6-0 champion would be a very high choice for the new logo Jordan came into the league well after Jerry West was selected for the logo Jordan took the NBA to a whole other level after Jerry West retired Jordan's impact on the NBA is unmeasurable it's sad to see that the Michael Jordan vs LeBron debates honestly took away a lot of what Michael Jordan did for the league when thinking of a new logo for the NBA Jordan seems like an easy pick everybody knows Michael Jordan at this point and again most people consider him as the greatest to ever do it one problem that would arise is the fact that Michael Jordan's silhouette is already widely popular because of his Jordan Company the NBA obviously wouldn't use the Jordan logo as the silhouette but there are many other images the league could find and use of MJ another problem is that NBA fans today may not enjoy Jordan being the new logo in the 90s and early 2000s everybody idolized Michael Jordan nowadays again due to the goat debate and the evolution of the game Michael Jordan is just not as loved as he once was that's why I believe this next pick would make as much sense as Michael Jordan and I believe out of everybody this is who majority of NBA fans believe should be the new logo I'm of course referring to the late great Kobe Bryant as many people know in January of 2020 Kobe Bryant was tragically killed in a helicopter crash at the age of 41. this tragedy put the NBA World in shock as one of our grades had passed away as young as he was Kobe had a amazing NBA career playing 20 Seasons winning multiple MVPs scoring titles five championships and even scoring 81 points in one game Kobe has always gotten a lot of slack for pretty much playing identical to Michael Jordan but not being as productive to a lot of critics and fans and while a lot of the critiques on Kobe's career as a basketball player ring true nobody cared more and put everything into the game of basketball like Kobe did his passion hunger and willingness to succeed deemed its own name in the Mamba mentality Kobe Bryant is a inspiration to me as well as so many other people that got to watch him play when Kobe passed away in 2020 as sad as it was it truly felt like the first time the basketball world all came together at once to mourn and reflect it was a time we all took a step back and appreciated the greatness we got to witness that's why I believe that the NBA decides to change its logo Kobe is one of the top picks I'm sure his silhouette would be his signature fade away or possibly one of his dunks but either way I think it would be a great way to pay homage to Kobe Bryant and a great representation of what the NBA is and stands for but now that I've given my four possible candidates it's time to get my number one pick the best option the best choice for the NBA's new logo drum roll please is nobody absolutely nobody now I know I know very anti-climatic answer I'm sorry but I truly believe the best move for the NBA is to Simply remove the silhouette from the logo and just have the NBA sort of like what the NFL does or majority of sports leagues out there to pick make one single NBA player and Grant him as the NBA logo is unfair to every other all-time grade even if the NBA wanted to make it Kobe which I think out of all the players is the most reasonable and would be the most well received knowing the NBA world and media they would still absolutely get backlash and we'd probably be having this same discussion after the change on if Kobe deserves it or not basketball is a team game and a team sport and the game has evolved to a point where it's simply illogical to have one player represent the league on its logo so I believe the NBA logo should have no Silhouettes at all should the NBA change it to a player should they remove the silhouette completely or
