the remix feature in mid-journey sounds like it would be the most powerful tool you could use but it often doesn't work how you think it should let me show you the best use cases I've learned along the way first off if you want to access remix mode you can find it in the settings or you could hit forward slash remix and toggle it on or off here when remix mode is on you can hit one of the variation buttons or the re-roll button and have the chance to change your prompt while keeping the foundational picture the same are you following so far so let's take this medieval Knight in armor simple prompt what can we change about it I think number two is going to be the best example for what I'm about to show you so we're going to hit the variation button now theoretically you could change anything you could rewrite the prompt but I'm going to warn you don't do that what I think remix works best with is changing the colors so medieval Knight in armor I'm Gonna Change to medieval night in Galactic neon armor just like that don't worry about the two asp effect ratios that's just because I have 16 by nine set as a suffix the aspect ratio you see first is what mid-journey will focus on so we're going to hit submit and boom you'll get something like these the galactic neon look it's that same night as before that same armor similar armor I should say but it lets you spice up the pictures with a bit of color now that I think is the best way to use remix but it doesn't work all the time let me show you this next example and then maybe you can tell me what I'm missing I try a lady in a suit unsplash I thought number three would be okay so you hit variations and then I wanted to see her in a white suit but it definitely does not work like at all so what's up with that why did the armor remix well to a different color but here I couldn't change the suit at all let me show you two quick tips I learned that honestly don't work that well but it's something you might want to try and they basically just involve re-running the prompt you can hit the re-roll and and just hit submit run the exact same thing and what it does is basically make a new prompt as if you had just asked for a lady in a white suit now this is not a remix of the picture we were looking for so is this helpful I don't know I don't think so but it does give you something a little different or you could hit the variation and hit submit again without changing anything and this gives you something a little closer to what you were looking for but now the model is zoomed out I don't really know why it does that so why did the remix Feature work so well for the armor but you can't change a suit color I really don't know maybe you can help me out leave a comment below I've got four more examples of use cases for the remix feature this first one is a little frustrating a beautiful view of an ancient Roman cyberpunk city little prompt whatever I like these pictures but let's take number two and I wanted to see it at night time so we hit the variation button and then no matter what I did I could not get it to be nighttime a beautiful view of an ancient Roman cyberpunk city at at night definitely not at night but what's kind of interesting is these little lights in the city it's as if it is night time but the sun is still out like normally you wouldn't be able to see these glowing lights right if it was daytime so that's kind of interesting but I would say this did not work at all I tried getting extra fancy with it splitting it up into a multi-promise cyberpunk city at night colon colon night time colon colon point eight did not do anything I tried even more I tried nighttime shot of a beautiful view of an ancient Roman cyberpunk city at night colon colon night time two nothing pure daytime what is up with that why can't I change the time of day am I writing it incorrectly what am I missing I tried re-rolling the prompt again with remix on keep that in mind if you turned off remix and re-rolled the prompt you would get these exact same pictures basically but you keep remix on you hit re-roll you hit submit without changing anything and you get something like these these are a cool City at night but it's not not the view of the city that we had before so again is this helpful I don't know I don't really think so but here is a use case that actually works and works pretty well a young woman dressed in ancient Native armor sure these look great I thought number three had a good composition so we hit variation and I changed this to an old woman and this is what it came up with I would say that worked fairly well maybe like 65 percent well because this is clearly an old woman with the same composition that we wanted before so Color Works kind of day versus night not really at all but changing the age yeah I'd say this works but I also would say I didn't think this old woman really looked like the younger woman do you see what I mean so there's one more thing we can do we go back to our original prompts and we hit upscale on the image we're going to remix we get this picture we click on it copy image address and we're going to use this as an image prompt in the remix We Go remix again I'm Gonna Change to an old woman but at the front we're gonna paste a link to our reference picture and we get these which I think turned out really well it looks a lot like our original model however if you look really close at the armor itself you're getting four different designs and if you look at the original picture none of them are actually that armor so is that a bit of a problem yeah remix is not a one to one style transfer unfortunately but I still think that turned out all right one more quick example of remix working fairly well a woman wearing a black silk scarf we're gonna take number three and we're gonna change the prompt to a man wearing a black silk scarf and it comes up with these I would say these aren't that bad but they're not that great I thought number one might be the closest so what I did was hit variation and without changing anything I just hit submit again and it comes up with these These are pretty good to go from that girl to this guy I think that's a pretty good use case of the remix but if we wanted to go from this guy to a robot we get something like this so maybe this was a half step of the way there we do that little trick of not changing anything but running the remix again and we get these I think we're getting somewhere it's not an exact science and maybe I'm missing something please let me know and this whole video got started because I got a comment from Sharon CEO on YouTube where they told me about re-rolling the remix again without changing anything and they gave me this example a Whimsical abstract cow that they would then change into a tiger while keeping the same style so I tried it out I wanted to see more animals in the style of number three so we hit V3 and we change it to tiger and this is what most people are going to encounter it's not going to work you're going to look at this and be like wow that did nothing but what do we do we hit re-roll and we don't change anything just hit submit and you get these which again I don't think is very helpful it's not a remix of that original cap it basically just reruns The Prompt again like you saw earlier so I tried using that technique on the variations and I think this turned out a lot better I'm starting to see the tiger especially in number one and number three even number four so I try the re-roll technique again it variations hit submit and you get these These are much closer to being a tiger and here's where I want to show you two different things you can do you can turn off remix and hit the normal variations I use that on number two because number two is kind of nonsensical and I find that when you use the regular variations mid Journey can kind of correct itself so this turned into these and I would say that did a pretty good job of bringing the tiger out but I also tried the re-roll trick with remix on and it came up with these thought number four was pretty great so there we're kind of keeping a consistent Style by using the re-roll feature with remix turned on is this perfect no it's not perfect it's not going to work every time but it's still a feature in mid-journey and maybe there's more we can learn about it just for the record I tried taking this tiger and remixing it into a scientist obviously it didn't work on the first try so we run the re-rolls and then it kind of gives us some new some use track definitely Whimsical versions of the prompt yeah it's not great not great at all there's your quick lessons on the things you can do with the remix features some of them work really well and some don't I'm not quite sure of all the rules and regulations that go into it again if I've missed anything please let me know we're all learning this together I hope you're doing well take care and I'll see you next time peace
