a Ned rig has to be one of the most used finesse presentations in the bass fishing world right up there with a wacky rig and a drop shot with well there are so many different Ned rig presentations out there that you and many Anglers have experimented with but one of the downsides is it usually does its best once we have an area figured out or have some fish located it's not always the best method for searching or covering water well on a recent trip I really wanted to challenge myself to use the Ned rig more in a search mode than really I ever have in the past you may be thinking why would you do that there's so many better baits out there in presentations for searching well the fish were extremely finicky on this particular trip and it seemed like a Ned rig was about the only thing that they would hit so I had to try to maximize its use the best that I could so I decided that I was going to use a steady reeling retrieve just keep that little lure moving I'm reeling that spinning reel handle and and just keep it scooting along the bottom and that way I could bring that thing through weeds and rocks around wood all that type of stuff and figure out where fish were located and then stop it or do a start stop presentation when I had a group of fish found now the actual setup that I used is this little jig rig I've done a couple videos about it and talked about it just a couple weeks ago basically it's a miniature scaled down jika rig but what I really like about it is the hook is Texas rigged so as I'm coming through those different types of cover it doesn't get snagged up and I can just drag it and move it along feel a stick bring it up and over feel a clump of weeds pull it right through and have the confidence that most of the time it's going to stay free of debris and the other thing I was really trying to imitate as recently in the last few months I have seen multiple times bass really rooting stuff off of the bottom are actually swimming through the water column with weeds in their mouth from something that they have picked off the bottom so I thought if I could bring this Ned rig a little bit quicker and not worry about if it started to get bound up in some vegetation or move through some cover that it was going to attract the attention of bass that are in the area and their Natural Curiosity was going to bring them towards it where they'd want to check it out and being that the hook was weedless my thought process well there's a good chance it's going to pull through that stuff and not be all hung up and dirty but after I have watched fish just go in and get stuff out of vegetation my confidence level in this particular Retreat style was a lot higher than maybe it would have been a year ago now if your Waters mainly have a rocky bottom composition well then a traditional Ned head is going to work really well for this steady dragging retrieve and I'll tell you this little lure just scooting across the bottom caught a lot of fish for me over three days as a matter of fact it was the only lure that I caught fish on if you haven't tried just a steady reeling retrieve maintaining bottom contact and scooting that lure along the bottom go ahead and give it a try and see what you think let me know how it works for you and hey if you want to watch a video that talks about a huge mistake we often make when we're fishing lily pads go ahead and check this one out right here and make sure to go ahead and encourage someone today you never know how you might just change their life for the bass fishing life I'm your host Steve Rogers
