what did you think of this first season of this TV series The Last of Us based on the video game did you love it did you hate it did you think it was wonderful and a great video game adaptation I would love to hear your thoughts and comments down below click that like button and subscribe also don't forget to hit that Bell button to notify you when I release more videos today I'm doing something that I don't use usually do very often on Mr teach film preach and that is a television show review but because the last of us is a little bit of a special show for me and I'm such a fan of the video game I thought it would be appropriate to review season one of 2023's post-apocalyptic TV series The Last of Us just so you know this video has spoilers you have been warned created by Craig Mason and Neil druckman starring pager Pascal Bella Ramsay since the beginning of this harsh post-pandemic world where people will become infected by this fungus Joel who is a Smuggler in Boston has to take young Ellie and the two of them are brought together by harsh circumstances and must survive a brutal journey across the United States in this dangerous world where it's not just the infected who are dangerous but even more so the humans who have survived so far based on the great Sony PlayStation game which I own both games I love love the first one and the second one and I'm not the biggest video gamer person but I had a great time and especially working on this with my wife playing this game with her we bonded over this game in this story so when I heard the TV show was coming out I was so excited when Pedro Pascal was announced as Joel I thought that was awesome casting so first of all the performances are amazing in this buyer two leads and our Supporting Cast as well Melanie Lewinsky from Yellowjackets is incredible and I loved her performance and specifically her episode episode 5 I believe where they're in Kansas city is one of the best episodes of TV in a long time wow episode 5 episode 8 and episode 9 are kind of right at the top there episode 7 was interesting to go back in time lash out Ellie's backstory her character where she got bit how that happened and that's one of the best things about this show is that it focuses on characters and characterization and we see how people react and respond to extreme situations and I love seeing that through both Ellie and Joel and what they're willing to do to survive and that is one of the things that this show is really trying to nail in and I think they do a superb job of exploring that theme Greg Mason who did the miniseries Chernobyl and that show was fantastic and I actually hadn't seen that show until I was like episode two or three into the last of us and I absolutely thought it was incredible him and Neil druckman who was the creator of The Last of Us video game collaborate and created this television series together which was so smart and I'm glad that they made him a part of the creative team because the Last of Us games are such great stories great storytelling genre pieces that is just happens to be as a video game instead of a movie or a TV series I remember playing The Last of Us games and thinking this would make a great series and so when they finally announced it that HBO of all companies is doing it I was just absolutely stoked and they did not let me down this is the best video game adaptation out there not just because the TV showed us a carbon copy of the game what it does is it builds off of the game and it has very similar beats and some episodes are almost verbatim from the game because why wouldn't you do what the game did the game is so well written so well done and so cinematic and so dramatic and intense some of the character things some of the directions they took or how things happen those are the details that they change in alter and mix and give us more characterization less action and I thought that was incredibly smart you're so smart why aren't you rich so well written the directing is fantastic the action when it happens is visceral and intense just an absolute feel of Doom whenever these infected people are around and then you pivot to the people and the world that we're in and the harshness and the authoritarian State some of the militia civilians like in episode five or to the cannibalistic Society in episode 8 the world is so interesting to explore and to explore that world through these great well-developed deep emotional characters the CGI is well done they blend it really well together whether that's from the infected to like some of the outdoor scenes where you know the buildings are all crashed and falling apart and you know half the city's blowing up I thought the CGI and the visual effects are stunning in this show the locations they shoot in are beautiful the production design is astonishing and so detailed I thought it was just absolutely incredible but of course it is it is HBO after all he expanded upon some of these characters like Bill absolutely played brilliantly and amazingly by Nick Offerman one of my favorite episodes as well of this season was Frank and Bill and their love story and how they came together and their life together throughout the pandemic since it started we don't get that as much in the video game and I love that the creators focused on that and really it was such an emotional episode I'm trying not to think about it are you gonna cry no you're gonna cry and so well crafted and beautiful and depressing and hopeful and inspiring and that is really what this show is from beginning to end very beautiful storytelling the chemistry between Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey between Joel and Ellie as it develops over the season it's perfect like it's not rush but it's not fake it seems very authentic and beautiful and sweet and you see how he comes to care for her and love for her and how she just trusts him and just has him as like this really like a father figure and she is a daughter to him because he lost Sarah and I just love that Dynamic so much when a show focuses on character and tension and drama and doesn't focus on the action and the visual effects that's when to me TV shows and movies are at their absolute Peak and their absolute best keep going for family I'm not family no your cargo they give like Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker and the people who voiced like Joel and Ellie and Tommy in the video game they gave him roles in the TV show because why not they're actors they did such amazing Voice work on the video game they deserve something to be for this TV show to give them some recognition for their faces for their beautiful and amazing motion capture voice performances for the video game if you haven't played the video games I highly recommend it this was one of those ones that will always stay with me I'll never forget the experience of playing both Last of Us part one and part two for the first time now if you had to put a gun to my head and say pick your favorite episode don't kill me I think it has to be episode 8 because you see what Joel is willing to do to preserve that love he has with Ellie that father-daughter relationship you see the brutality of the world but you also see Ellie and Joel and their commitment to each other and it just culminates in this really stressful intense Thriller dramatic episode when they have her captured in the cage and she's interacting with the cult leader of that group and then you find out they're cannibals and they're gonna butcher her and how she gets out of that situation and then the bar scene with the flames and just all of that whole episode was so well developed so intense and I loved it so I think it would have to be episode 8 then episode nine not finale what Joel is willing to do for love they focus not just on the light and the lovely side of love but a sacrificial and the mean and the Dark Side of love and what we're really willing to do to save the person we love to save that light that we have in our life that little flicker of Hope Joel he might be right in some regards but he's also wrong in some regards and there's that really great gray line that he decides to cross at the end of this show and he's probably crossed before but we actually get to see him do it in this episode and I think that's why it's so intense and so heart-wrenching episode 5 is probably number three great Zombie Breakout scene under the ground with the Army and the civilians of Kansas City and Joel's up in the top of the building and he's sniping everyone keeping Ellie and Sam and Henry safe TV production at its absolute best this is hands down one of my favorite TV shows I've ever seen I think it's in my top five and I cannot wait for season two trust me so overall I'm gonna have to go ahead and give the Last of Us season one and a plus yes [Applause] it's a top of the class Bravo what did you think of the Last of Us did you enjoy
