is filled with corpses it seems that infected people attack the branch earlier and an even worse situation emerges Tess has been bitten by a clicker and is infected with the virus she has about a day before turning into one of them having experienced the infection herself Tess understands ell's importance even more she entrusts Joel with the mission at this moment an infected person in the branch Ellie's words she takes the opportunity to grab a knife and kill one of David's companion ions before making a run for it later David chases Ellie into a diner she tries to attack him with the knife but he manages to overpower her and knocks her to the ground at this point David's true intentions are revealed he was actually interested in Ellie's body and had intentions to sexually assault her in the end Ellie fights back and kills David she goes on a frenzy Rampage repeatedly striking David's body out of extreme distress after a while Ellie leaves the diner eventually Joel finds Ellie who is still shaken by the events let's go back for Te years there's a pregnant woman who is being chased by infected people even while giving birth she's attacked and bitten by one of the infected luckily she manages to kill the infected person and gives birth to a baby afterward a woman named Marlene finds the pregnant woman her name is Anna and she's Marlene's best friend Anna un trusts Marlene with the B baby and even names her the baby is named Ellie unbeknownst to marline and that is actually Ellie's mother because Ana has already been infected Marlene tearfully kills her concerning Ellie's birth circumstances Marlene insists that her team keep it a secret returning to the present Joel and Ellie finally reach Salt Lake City according to the map the hospital in the city is the fireflea space strangely Ellie seems a bit down occasionally lost in thought soon the two unexpectedly come across a group of giraffes in the city the scenery here is exceptionally beautiful and it brings a smile to Ellie's face At Last At This Moment Joel senses Ellie's worries the vaccine research might have some unknown risks so he asks Ellie if she wants to give up and head back to Jackson however Ellie says that too many people have sacrificed for this cause and she can't give up for their sake finally Elli opens up about her future plans saying that after they're done with all this they can go wherever she wants whether it's two tomies the Sheep ranch or even the moon she's willing to go anywhere with Joel next Joel continues to search for the Firefly with Ellie suddenly they are attacked by a patrols bomb and are knocked unconscious when Joel wakes up he finds himself at the Firefly base it turns out the patrol was actually Firefly members Marlene is here too and thanks Joel for getting Ellie here safely at this point Joel can't find Ellie and Marlene provides an explanation it turns out that Ellie is about to undergo a surgery by the researchers she has been carrying a fungus in her brain since birth they coexist this fungus acts as a vaccine making Ellie immune to the infection researchers plan to extract Ellie's unique fungal infection cultivate it and distribute it to save Humanity but this also means Ellie will lose her life because the fungus is located in her brain learning about this Joel immediately wants to take Ellie away however marleene disagrees and claims she has no choice Marley not only disarms Joel but also sends two of her men to watch as he leaves the Firefly base if Joel resists Marlene authorizes them to shoot reluctantly Joel is escorted out by the soldiers however at a corner of a staircase Joel stops he ambushes the soldiers taking them down surprisingly Joel chooses to save Ali he takes the solders weapons and confronts the Firefly base alone Joel remains eerily calm and ruthless killing every Soldier he encounters eventually he reaches the operating room luckily Ellie is only unconscious and hasn't undergone the surgery yet Joel shoots the surgeon and tends to Ellie's wounds he prepares to leave with her however in the basement Marlene appears with a gun she threatens Joel to put Ellie down and offers to spare him Jackson They even catch sight of Tommy's town from a distance here Joel plans to retire and start a new life suddenly Ellie stops Joel she talks about her story with Riley and admits that the first person she killed was the infected Riley now Ellie thinks about Riley Tess and Sam she doesn't want to let their sacrifices go in vain and believe she has a responsibility to save the world however Joel advises Ellie to seek a new kind of brightness he believes Ellie can find a new purpose to live for
