The History of Juno "The Hatchet" - Borderlands

having made her debut in borderlands 3's third dlc bounty of blood a fistful of redemption juno represents the tale of redemption a character seeking to right the wrongs of her past gehenna is a very lawless planet on it are a gang known as the devil riders they're a group of individuals who live life according to their own law they'll steal they'll kill they'll do anything they need to survive the only real rule they follow is the survival of the fittest the strongest live and the weak die juno's story begins already a part of the gang her past and early life are largely unknown but she lived as one of them she would fight and she would kill she would do what she needed to survive she used a hatchet as her primary weapon she killed many people with it so much so that it earned her the nickname juno the hatchet though she didn't like it she was never a fan of killing she only did it when the situation called for it but there were many situations that called for it nevertheless it was still enough to earn her a nickname she had gone on plenty of raids plundering towns and villages for resources and supplies one of which was the town of vestige they had come to learn of her and her reputation as time went on but over time the devil riders saw a shift in command the group are led by the strongest and to become the strongest you have to kill your way up to it and this is where butcher rose comes in rose had motives of her own under her command the devil riders became a much more bloodthirsty gang killing more and more and less for the need of survival this didn't sit too well with juno the devil rider's next big raid was to the town of vestige in order to claim an egg that sat in the center of the town as that's what rose was looking for because of how valuable that was the town was set to be a slaughterhouse they would launch a surprise attack and kill most if not everyone then claimed the egg due to her reputation rose sought out juno thinking she'd be on board for this you wanted to see me i did boys around here say that when you want bloody work done the hatchet's who you call now listen close we're going to make another run on the town and i want you by my side when we do all right what are we going for got plenty of munitions food stuffs don't seem short on supplies oh this isn't a supply raid that's the old way of doing things i want you to take the town and i don't expect there to be any survivors you understand me that's bloody work i'm the butcher and you're the hatchet frankly i don't see how it was gonna be any other way in reality rose couldn't have been more wrong juno had enough of the bloodshed and saw the wrong in the killing of innocents so she rode off alone to warn the people she was of course greeted by the ends of barrels the first person she spoke with was the deputy titus we got you surrounded don't you kill me yet i came in my own accord to warn you just kill her kato we can't trust her guns down tomodachis we'll let the sheriff sort this devil rider out fine but don't you change guards you've got a traitor in your midst and the town's in danger dawn that's when they'll come riding like ruin you'd better be ready for him while he had no intention of trusting her the sheriff was much more open-minded he chose to heed her warning and as chance would have it she told the truth the town of vestige set up a defense with their men and when the attack came they were prepared this marked a cornerstone in juno's life she had officially betrayed the devil riders and made an enemy out of all of them while being given shelter in vestige itself rose was furious at this and put a bounty on juno willing to pay anyone to kill her with a bonus if they could do it with her own hatchet the sheriff figured she'd earned a spot in vestige meant so long as there was something he had to say about it she'd be safe under his protection you saved our hides that's what you did but the town don't see that they want you gone or dead can't blame them they know my name what i am what i've done we wouldn't be here talking just now if not for you so you can stay in town if you want don't know which is safer sheriff oh there devil riders will hunt me down but if i stay in town who's to say i go to sleep one night and don't wait to see the day break i'll keep my people at bay just do your best not to provoke them no one's gonna forgive you hatchet but if you're looking for redemption sure is ruined you can fight for it the rest of the town folk didn't see it that way her reputation demanded she suffer the consequences of her actions but the sheriff laid down how it was i see the damn devil rider sheriff the hatchet did you forget where she is or do we need a new serif you saw me sir what ruin is wrong with you it'll mend and it's for the rest of you take the wool out of your ears i ain't a fool i know what she is but any one of you lays a finger on her without my say i'll shoot you dead and put you outside for the devils to clean you hear me we hear you serif we won't cause any more fuss good but if anyone here wants to challenge me on this well go ahead and make your play otherwise get out of here we got better things to do than bicker amongst ourselves but even the generosity of the sheriff only went so far he meant what he said and juno would be safe but he never took his eye off of her just in case he made sure titus also keep a watch on her you called for me sheriff it's about juno sheriff i don't know where you heard but whatever it was she started it duly noted now listen titus i ain't saying to trust her but she's like one of them devils turn him against your enemy and she'll tear him to pieces we can use her controlling devils that's the rider's game sheriff you've said so yourself only a matter of time before one turns on you well right now we need all the help we can get even if it bites us in the long run keep an eye on her but keep her safe all the same i don't like this one bit sheriff i don't expect you to like it titus but i do expect you to follow orders heron titus also never saw eye to eye sheriff says you saved the town but i think a snake went and slithered into the hen house you ever see a snake as thick as me look i'm not trying to pick a fight deputy and i am not asking any of you to forgive me for what i've done good cause you ain't gonna get nothing from me or any of these folk why if i gunned you down town folk would call me a hero you take another step towards me titus and you'll lose a hand wouldn't be the first notch in your belt now would it yeah i bet that hatchet of yours has cut down plenty of law bringers like me over the years just know i'll be watching you same here deputy and this is where the events of the dlc take place juno had a place of her own in the town but on the outskirts where everyone could feel safe including herself she really meant what she said she wasn't stirring up any trouble she was keeping to herself but still the town never came around to her when the vault hunters arrive to take up the bounty of blood to stop rose and the devil riders the group lead yet another attack on the town only this time they pull it off the egg is obtained and the sheriff winds up getting shot through the chest his dying request is the passing on of his badge he chooses juno as his successor the characters honor this and meet her where even she is shocked that he would do something like this she tries her best in leading the people sending the characters off to find the deputy titus who'd been kidnapped where they are successful in this but titus cannot believe the sheriff's decision and it causes even further more friction between the two that badge should be mine there's no way sheriff gave it to you there's just no way well that's what the bounty hunter said and why would they lie they don't owe me dirt why'd sheriff pick you then huh what the hell did he see in you i don't know didn't have a chance to find out but if you want to dig up the old bastard and ask him yourself by all means go ahead titus gotta shovel out back you can use now you listen here the only man in town who ever trusted you is dead i know it and you know it i do know it i've lived with it every damn day since i got here now if you're looking to scrap titus take your shot i got some grief to work out well i'm right here titus oh i'm thinking about it you just let me know despite the lack of faith in her juno continues acting as the sheriff using her knowledge of the devil riders from her time in it they slowly but surely unfold the plan of roses she mainly instructs everyone where to go and proves herself a capable and trustworthy leader even turning titus around to see that she is on their side of course rose would be thwarted by the characters and thanks to the leadership of juno she redeems her past actions in the eyes of the town thus fulfilling her journey for redemption
