and my husband.</i> <i> When we moved in,</i> <i> we started experiencing
these unexplained,</i> <i> strange things.</i> I so deeply want whatever
has been happening to end. You work so hard as a parent
to protect your child, and it's so scary
to not know what's there <i> and feel so out of control.</i> ♪ ♪ - I'm in New York City
in Harlem. It's one of the biggest
neighborhoods in the city, one of the most historic
neighborhoods. I'm headed over to meet
with Alysia Reiner. Alysia is a really good
character actress. She's currently playing
in the hit show "Orange Is the New Black." And she plays a very corrupt,
strict, mean warden. She bought a brownstone here
a few years back, and from what I understand, there's a lot of activity
going on in this home. ♪ ♪ But this is a very old
neighborhood. I definitely feel like there are
some lingering spirits here. ♪ ♪ - My husband and I
were in a-- like, a 500-square-foot
apartment, and like any couple who wants
to make their family bigger and have a baby,
we had to look for more space. <i> We looked
at over 106 properties</i> all over New York City,
and we found this place. It had no windows,
no doors, no electric, no plumbing,
and pretty much no roof. But truly,
I saw the bones of the place, so we bought it. <i> And we did
this gorgeous renovation,</i> and we did build
this incredibly beautiful house. In 2008, my daughter was born. For sure it was the best day
of my life. Fairly shortly after that,
I was home alone a lot. And I would hear things. There would be door slams,
and it wouldn't be windy. I was too scared to go look or try and figure out
what it was. [knife chopping] ♪ ♪ [footsteps tapping] Many times,
I would hear footsteps. <i> It's a three-story house.</i> If I'm there alone,
nobody's upstairs. <i> And that totally
freaked me out.</i> - Hello? - All of it really started
to add up. Like, something lives here. ♪ ♪ When my daughter was tiny, tiny,
tiny, I lost my wallet. <i> I had to go
to the police department</i> <i> and fill out a whole form,</i> and the officer there
said to me, "Oh, you live on the block
with that green house." Now, that green house was mine. <i> He goes, "I found a dead body
in that house.</i> "Strawberry, the prostitute,
was killed with a screwdriver right in the middle
of her head." Now, I'm a sleep-deprived
new mother, and really
one of the worst things you could have told me
at that moment was that a prostitute was killed <i> in the middle
of my living room floor.</i> ♪ ♪ <i> Over time,
Liv started to talk.</i> <i> And one night,</i> <i> I walked
into my daughter's room,</i> and she's, like, whispering to things that are not there. - Sweetie?<i>
- And I was like...</i> - Who are you talking to?
- Avaletten and Det. - She was so clear on it. It was like,
"Avaletten and Det." - Who are they? - Those are my friends. - And I was like,
"Where could she possibly get these names from?" And she would talk to them
and whisper with them, <i> and she would have a whole
secret life with them.</i> ♪ ♪ <i> Not long after that,</i> she started talking about
these "funny walking things." - They play with me. - She would describe it as,
like, this cloudy figure. She said the arms and the legs
were really straight but that it had no face. Like, she didn't know the word
for "ghost," but what she was describing
was a ghost. She saw them as such fact. Like, she was
so literal about them, <i> and she wasn't scared.</i> And I got chills
all the way up my spine. <i> I started getting
really panicked.</i> <i> What are these beings
telling her,</i> <i> and how are they affecting
her psyche and her growth?</i> There is nothing more primal
than protecting your child, nothing,
and the fear that something could hurt her
is the scariest thing there is. ♪ ♪ One night, I had just
put my daughter to bed. My husband was in L.A., and I was leaving her room,
and I was on the second floor. ♪ ♪ All of a sudden, <i> I looked.</i> ♪ ♪ There was a definite--you know,
there was a figure. <i> Super long,
straight arms and legs</i> <i> and no face.</i> It really looked just like my daughter's
"funny walking things." ♪ ♪ <i> My heart was pounding.</i> - [screams] <i> - And I screamed.</i> And then I, like, looked again,
and it was gone. ♪ ♪ It was really scary. ♪ ♪ I think more than anything,
I want to know who or what these spirits are,
and quite frankly, I want them out. ♪ ♪ These occurrences happen
to this day. Three days ago,
my daughter talked about the "funny walking things." ♪ ♪ <i> I have no idea
whether they're good or evil,</i> <i> and that's--
I think that's part of why</i> I'm standing here
right now is, I-- I want to know, and I want
to protect my daughter. ♪ ♪ - Alysia has a young daughter, and that's when things
start to concern me. Because the spirits like to prey
on vulnerability. ♪ ♪ As I drive through
these streets, I am feeling a lot
of history here. ♪ ♪ My psychic vision
is showing me dirt roads, covered wagons,
horses. I see the old-fashioned way
they used to dress. Like, the women
are wearing bonnets. They remind me of
the Pennsylvania Dutch people, like the Amish. I keep getting a vision
of children. The oldest girl looks like
she could be maybe 17, and the youngest boy looks like
he's about 5. I'm feeling their emotions. I can feel the anxiety
of the girl. Somehow there's a very deep
message today or significant message
for Alysia. But I'm not sure what it is. Ugh,
I need some air. Whew. The energy's already starting
to build. ♪ ♪ [exhales deeply] I think we're here. ♪ ♪ Okay, here goes. ♪ ♪ This is exactly
what I was afraid of, multilevel home, which means there's a lot more
nooks and crannies for the ghost to hide. And that top floor, that's telling me something
up there. That's calling me. I have to definitely
get up there. Something's up there. ♪ ♪ This might have been... abandoned for a while. Something--I-- I'm starting to feel... ♪ ♪ I see this all as farmland. ♪ ♪ And I smell, like, fire. Like, I see smoke.

- Oh, my God. This is not something
I expected. ♪ ♪ He doesn't like
what goes on here. He doesn't like how it
influences your child. ♪ ♪ <i> [eerie music]</i> ♪ ♪ - I see this all as farmland. ♪ ♪ And I smell, like, fire. Like, I see smoke.

- Very nice, very nice. - Thank you. - Let's talk a little bit about, what's the reason
why you called me here? Like, what are your concerns?
What do you hope to happen? I know a little bit.
- Okay. - I know you have a daughter.
- Mm-hmm. - And I know there's activity
in this home. - When Liv was a baby, strange things
started happening-- door slams, unexplained noises,
like something lives here. - Okay. - And in fact, one time,
I lost my wallet, and I went
to our local precinct, and the detective told me
that someone had been murdered in the house. - Really?
- Yeah. - Did the detective tell you
any other details of that? - Yes.
- Okay, don't tell me. - And obviously,
we didn't know that buying it. - How long have you been
living here? - We bought it 2005;
we started living here 2007. - So you renovated it?
- Yeah. - Okay, that can stir things up
that might have been dormant. - Okay. - When you renovate a home, entities and spirits
can actually get very upset and angry. I see needles. - Yeah, lots and lots
and lots and lots. - I just see a lot of needles
and tourniquets and-- - And in fact, my husband,
when we were cleaning up, got a needlestick injury. And we had to both get
hepatitis B shots. And it was intense, yeah.
- Whoa. - Yeah. - Whatever activity's
in this home, does this feel threatening
to you? - I--yeah. It scared the daylights
out of me. - Who do you feel the target is? - I think Liv. - What makes you say that? - She's seen the most. ♪ ♪ - Your daughter has abilities,
like, big-time abilities... - Wow. - Where she can communicate. She can feel the emotions. Do know what an empath is? - Yeah.
- She's total empath. A sponge from the word go. She can feel everything
everyone else is feeling. - I so believe that. - I was one of those children,
and I can relate. Does she tell you about it?
- Yep. - Matter-of-factly
or frightened? - Matter-of-factly,
not really frightened. - Okay.
How old is she? - Six. - How long has she
been seeing them? Since, like-- - Since she--
as long as she could speak, she's been talking about them. But before she knew
the word "ghost," she would say
"funny walking things." - Really?
- Yeah. Hold on a second. So you know that as I tune in
to your home and I tune in to the block, I'm also a medium
that can tune in to people that you've lost. - [distorted speech] - I have a man here
who keeps telling me to say hello to Terry. Does this make any sense to you? - Yeah.
Terry's my mom. - Terry's your mom?
- [laughs] - Oh. This is obviously your dad. - [laughs] - He's very clear in my ear.
He's a great communicator. ♪ ♪ So he's giving me a visual
of a scar on the shin area? - When I was little, he had
an infection on his shin. - Do you remember the scar? - Yeah. - That's one of his ways
to validate that it's him,
obviously. ♪ ♪ - [distorted speech] - I can't see
what you're wearing, but he wants me to point
to what's engraved on your necklace. But it's important to him,
and he wants to bring it up. Does that connect to him
in anyway? Or did you do that for him? - My sister made this for me, and it says,
"I love you forever. I like you for always." - Okay, he wants to bring
your sister into this. That's why he brought up
the necklace. Is she your half sister? - Yeah.
- Okay. He told me to give a message
to her. And he said, "I did not miss
her special event. I was there." And I don't think it was
too long ago, a big,
life-changing event. To me, when I get that,
it's either a wedding or a baby. - She got married in May. - Wait. Wait. She will have a son
if she didn't already. - She just did.
- Okay. - [distorted speech] - And he said something
about your daughter. Even though physically
he said they never met, she can feel him. He said that they have
a soul connection. It's as if she knows him
and speaks of him. - She does, a lot. ♪ ♪ - I think your dad doesn't like
what goes on here with these spirits. So far,
that's all I know, but I just want to take
a quick peek-- I mean,
just vibing on your space. ♪ ♪ Could you tell me
if you have-- on this floor,
has anything ever happened? - Not that I've experienced.
- Not with you. - This is where, supposedly,
the murder happened, which is supposedly
over there. - By the living room.
- Yeah. - Okay. So far,
I don't see a murder. I don't, but I will tell you
what I did see. What I keep tuning in to
is this time period of what looks to me like Pennsylvania Dutch Amish
people. - Wow. - I saw covered wagons. I saw horses. I saw a young girl. In my vision,
she looked about 17. And she had on a white dress
with a blue--powder blue sash. And she had a little boy's hand, and the emotions
that I was feeling from this girl
was so much fear. ♪ ♪ The anxiousness of the girl is concerning to me. That same mind-set
is trapped in this house. ♪ ♪ Whatever is here, they started to attach
to your daughter. ♪ ♪ <i> [eerie music]</i> ♪ ♪ - The emotions
that I was feeling from this girl
was so much fear. ♪ ♪ The anxiousness of the girl is concerning to me. That same mind-set
is trapped in this house. So--but I think we should start
from the top level, because when I was
standing outside, the peak of the home
was really calling my attention. So I'd love to start with that. - Great. <i> [eerie music]</i> ♪ ♪ - I felt so drawn to the top
of the home standing out front. ♪ ♪ I'm sensing a lot of shadows. - Yeah. Many times in bed alone
at night, I'll either hear footsteps
downstairs, or I will--
sometimes I'll wake up, and I'll think I see something
in that area. I'll think I see something
near the chair. And when my husband's
out of town, that's when it--
that's when it's spooky. Like, when he's here
and I can just, like, snuggle into him and be like,
"What was that?" And he'll say, "Nothing." And there have been
a couple times he's been around, and I'll be like,
"What's that?" And he's like, "Oh, it's just
the house settling." - Oh, boy, if I had a dime for every time
someone said that. "It's just the house settling." But there's no doubt about it. There is something here. ♪ ♪ Your father is communicating
with me. I don't doubt for a second
you're seeing shadow out of the corner of your eye,
because it's his energy. ♪ ♪ - I mean,
that is my dad's chair, and so I would say
once or twice, I thought it was him. - [distorted speech] - He said you keep asking him,
"Dad, I need you to tell me. Give me a sign." There's something about a deal
or a work deal? Did you even ask him today
about, "Dad, I need help"? - I did. - Do you want to, like,
without-- you don't have to give me
your personal business, but... - Yeah, I'm trying to decide
between three things about a work thing. - [distorted speech] - He says,
"I want you to take the one "that is the most unknown
territory. That's the one you need
to take." ♪ ♪ Does it make sense? - It makes total sense. - [distorted speech] - And he said that he watches
over everyone at night. ♪ ♪ But I want to say that... - [distorted speech] - There's a side to your dad that has very strict boundaries,
meaning there's-- he doesn't like
what goes on here. These spirits
that are showing up, he doesn't like how it
influences your child. ♪ ♪ Okay,
I hear children again. - [whispering]
Stay right here. - But I hear them... [whispering indistinctly] Like, talking low so that nobody can hear
what they're saying. - [whispering]
Stay right here. - Did anybody ever see or feel
children in this home? - Liv feels. - Oh, really? - Yes. - Oh, and I just-- - [whispering]
Stay right here. - They're either hiding
from someone or... Just let me--
give me a second. - [whispering]
Stay right here. - They're just trying to make
a plan of escape, it feels like. And the older one needs
to protect the younger one. I feel that the adults
are preoccupied. I see, like,
smoke everywhere outside. - [screams] - There's--there's just screams
and... - [screams] - It sounds like terror
in the streets. - Yeah. ♪ ♪ - There's another part
of this house where there's the bulk
of the activity. - [yells] -<i> There is something going on
in there.</i> ♪ ♪ <i> [eerie music]</i> ♪ ♪ - I feel that the adults
are preoccupied. I see, like,
smoke everywhere outside. - [screams] - There's just screams
and... - [screams] - It sounds like terror
in the streets. - Yeah. - This happened
a very long time ago. But the emotions
and the anxiety and the fear is still so real in this place. Your dad is still with me. And he said something about Liv. Wait. Okay. He said that he's had to come
and actually interrupt some of the meetings
that she's had. Whatever is here, they started to attach to her
in a way that he didn't feel was healthy,
and he doesn't like it. He didn't like it. Because what started
to happen was, it started draining her energy
at one point. I don't know if you remember
when that was, where she was tired a lot
or maybe she was-- Was she getting a lot
of ear infections? - She had one
ear infection once. That was a big deal,
because it was the only time. - It was around
the ear infection time. So if you can pinpoint
when that was, and it was painful,
and she was miserable and-- he doesn't like
what goes on here. He doesn't like how it
influences your child. - Mm-hmm.
- And it does. I don't know if you know how
much it influences your child. I think it's more
than you even know. - Wow. - And I think that between
what's going on in this house with these whispers
and these kids, it somehow is tied
into what you're seeing. But I want to get more
to this story. I feel like I'm just getting
bits and pieces. There's another part
of this house where there's more activity
or the bulk of the activity. And I feel it's downstairs. Why don't we go down there? - Okay.
- I'll follow you. ♪ ♪ - So this is the hallway. ♪ ♪ - Hold on a second. There is something going on. - [yells] - I feel there's a lot
of commotion. It's louder than when it was in
your room, from what I can hear. - [grunting] - So what happened here? - So I was walking out
of Liv's room... - Right there?
- Mm-hmm. I was walking out there,
and then I feel like I saw something there. - Was it the daytime.
Was it the night? - Nighttime. - Like, what did you see? - Like, a misty figure. I've never seen a face. And it was, like,
right in this area. - Does it disappear right away? - Yeah, pretty much. - Have you ever tried
to communicate with it? Or was it too fleeting and too fast? - Too fleeting,
and I get really scared. - Which--they feed off of fear. - Yeah. [man grunting] - I see those children. They're running to get away. My heart is pounding,
like, out of my chest. If I am them... - [screams] - There's a dark room
I feel that they're
huddled together in. They're even afraid to breathe. They're slouched down. - [gasping] - Oh, my gosh. - [screams] - I see ladies being pulled
in the street by their feet. [gunshot] I smell gunpowder. I feel like they're in
the middle of some kind of war. ♪ ♪ These spirits are just, like,
coming back to the scene wanting to live
through your daughter. ♪ ♪ <i> [eerie music]</i> ♪ ♪ <i> - I see those children.</i> They're running to get away. My heart is pounding,
like, out of my chest. If I am them... - [screams] - There's a dark room
I feel that they're
huddled together in. They're even afraid to breathe. They're slouched down. - [gasping] - Oh, my gosh. - [screams] - I see ladies being pulled
in the street by their feet. [gunshot] I smell gunpowder. I feel like they're in
the middle of some kind of war. I see Native Americans. They're going in homes,
and they're grabbing-- they're grabbing people--
children, adults. It doesn't matter who they are. These children are petrified. - So scary. - I think they're looking
for safety somewhere. I'm sure you didn't plan
on hearing about that. - It's--it's amazing. It's wild. And it's scary, you know. - It's sad.
- It's--yeah. - It's so sad. - What do we do? - Well, we'll talk about that,
but I still want to see where your daughter
has had her activity and where she's had
her experiences. - Her room is right here. ♪ ♪ - So tell me,
what is the theme? Does her story change? Is it always the same? - She would talk about the
"funny walking things" a lot, <i> and they would talk to her
at night.</i> And, you know, I would say
my question for you is, there have been two names
that keep on coming up, which are--and we--
David and I always were like, "What are these names? I've never heard of these names
before in my life, so-- - Is one an A?
- Yeah. - Okay, what is it?
I can't make it out. - Avaletten. - Avaletten? - Avaletten and Det. D-E-T. - Okay.
- Yeah. [indistinct whispering] - I'm very confident that what
she's been communicating with all these years
are those children. - Wow. - They've been talking
to your daughter for many years. She can hear them very clearly and see them
and understand them. - Right.
- It's mind-to-mind. The funny floaty walky things,
it's these children. ♪ ♪ I--I feel like... ♪ ♪ I think there's a little bit
more to their story. - [screams] - I see the children... ♪ ♪ And they're... ♪ ♪ They're just grabbing them. They found them. They got them. ♪ ♪ These poor kids, they need to be released
of this fear. I feel the perfect person
that can help is... ♪ ♪ <i> [eerie music]</i> ♪ ♪ <i> - I think there's a little bit
more to their story.</i> I see the children. ♪ ♪ And they're... ♪ ♪ They're just grabbing them. They found them. They got them. ♪ ♪ These spirits are just, like,
coming back to the scene, maybe even looking
for their moms and their dads and wanting to live
through your daughter. They know that she
can hear them, being the empathic child
that she is and the intuitive old soul, and she's wide open,
like a funnel. She can hear, see, feel
since she's born, and it's probably going
to get stronger, believe it or not. - I was so worried about the-- the crack addicts and the... - It's nothing like that. - And the prostitute
that was murdered. But it has nothing to do
with any of that. - There's no doubt that there
was drugs going on in here, and like I said,
I saw the needles right away, but I wouldn't say that
anything's lingering like that. These poor kids, they need to be released
of this fear. How do you feel
about knowing this, and how do you feel
about letting them go? - I so want to let them go. Like, that--you know,
that's my deepest hope, because, you know,
I think, as a mom, the biggest thing
that you ever want to do is to create a safe space
for your kid and to protect your kid. - Absolutely, and I-- - You know, that's why--
that's I invited you here. So that's, you know-- - And not only for your kid
but for these kids. - Yeah, yeah. - They deserve to be
with their family. They deserve to go
to the light. And I feel--
I feel the perfect person that can help is your dad. He wants to protect
your daughter. I feel that maybe
he didn't do it thus far because this is--
this is big. Like, you needed to find out
what this was, have me come here,
enlighten you about what's been going on
with Liv. I think your dad
may just need you to give him the green light, and I have no doubts
that he would whisk them away or at least convince them that it's safer to go
where they belong and they don't belong here. So with that, I want to explain
to you a little bit about how you can really
teach Liv boundaries. It's necessary.
- Yeah. - Although I feel Dad will take
these children to the light, it doesn't really change
the fact that she's wide open
to this dimension. Yeah, and I feel
that it's no coincidence that you called me here now,
because this a real pivotal age, pivotal time for her
in school. So we could go sit down
and talk a little bit more about what I would do
if I were you. - I would love that.

- What do you think about today? - It was absolutely-- like, I don't have words. I am speechless. - I feel your dad
showed his presence today, like,
every step of the way. - In spades, yeah. - And I have to say that I know
it would be his pleasure to assist the children. - I so want him
to just take them to peace. - To peace.
- You know, that's-- I think ever since
things happened in this house, I wasn't at peace,
and I wanted to make sure mostly that Liv was at peace and that those spirits
were at peace. Hearing like, "Oh, yeah, your dad can bring them
to peace," so... - Well, because
he's coexisting here... - Yeah. - Watching over you guys, loving you guys
from that dimension. But there's too much fear here
from these children, and I don't ever want
your daughter to feel that fear and not know what it is
or where it's coming from. You know,
she is school age now. She's starting to socialize. I'm sure that at some point,
she may feel very different and not awkward
but maybe left out. - Yeah. - And I have to tell you, the key to teaching her
how to control this is, number one,
get her talking. Don't wait for her to tell you
when she has an incident. And that's key,
communicating everything. When I started communicating
my visions with my mom, I felt so much better that
I wasn't holding this all in. And when I realized
that she was supportive, it felt like I could
breathe again. Because this gift
will not be going away. It will only be getting
stronger. And I think your daughter's
going to be just--just fine. As a matter of fact, she's gonna be teaching you
a lot of things about the spirit world
and about life. You're very blessed.

was surprising and amazing. When she was talking about
these really tortured souls, it was very scary for me, because it was like,
"Well, what are we gonna do?" She came up with the solution,
you know, and that the--
full circle of it all, that, like, my dad's the one
who can help, was just amazing. <i> And to feel like I have tools
to help Liv,</i> <i> it brings me such peace.</i> ♪ ♪ <i> - Looking back,
