that we might rightly divide the word of truth guide our hearts and minds that what we communicate will be clear and those who receive it will receive it for your glory and your honor we ask in jesus name amen amen amen praise the lord the eyes of the lord lesson number four the biblical worldview sabbath afternoon introduces to us our memory text for the week and it comes from proverbs chapter 15 verse 3 and the bible says the eyes of the lord are in every place keeping watch on the evil and the good so there's many texts in the bible that clearly communicate that you can't hide anything from the lord he sees all he knows all and i like how the lesson kind of opens up a little bit of a poetic wording to kind of get us established here polish poet and i hope i say this right cheslav milos good job cheslav milos i think that's correct he wrote a poem which began with his writing about imaginary animals so we're talking about like talking rabbits and talking squirrels and things of such and he actually says about the poem he says they have as much in common with real animals as our notions of the world have with the real world then to the end of the poem he wrote this he says think of this and tremble so i'm going to read that one more time because i kind of stumbled on my words there he wrote he says they speaking of these talking animals that he wrote about have as much in common with real animals as our notions of the world have with the real world and he says think on this and tremble and i think he's emphasizing the fact that we live in a world today of vast scattered opinions and ideas and ideologies perspectives uh and when it comes to world view or in this case we're studying the biblical worldview because that's ultimately what we want to achieve is a correct accurate biblical world view according to what the bible teaches us there are so many different worldviews and for have been for thousands of years for example the best educated people thought more than 2 000 years ago that the earth or over the last 2 000 years up to a certain point that the earth was flat and this and also was the center of the universe some of the best educated people so they had kind of a twisted world view in that particular perspective and of course speaking of today many of today's most educated people believe that human beings evolve from monkeys or from all other sorts of you know small microscopic microscopic life and so and we tend to see the world through filters that impact how we interpret and understand the world around us and of course this is called a world view how you view the world and different aspects of the world around you is what is quickly quickly defined as world view and that's what we want to establish today we want to adopt a correct biblical world view and that's essentially what the lesson is about so i'm going to dive into sunday's lesson and kind of just to set this up as i was looking into this lesson and studying it kind of brought my attention back to something that i saw a couple of years ago um celebrity actor jim carrey many people may not know who he is but he's a very popular celebrity in in the america in america nation and he actually had an interview in which he said of his world view and his perspective and kind of a twist of reality he said we don't really exist speaking of human beings we don't even matter he says and and i thought that to be interesting but then i ran across another interview with the chief designer of spacex and of course the ceo of tesla his name is elon musk and it's interesting because in a podcast a public podcast interview he said speaking of his world view and his perspective of reality he said we are most likely living in an alternate reality or some kind of simulation this was this was or this was not this was there was no sarcasm there were not this was a real thing where he was dead serious and his world viewer his picture of reality is that you know right now as i'm speaking and as people are living and walking and talking and existing around the world today that we're probably living in some kind of alternate reality or or maybe we don't even really exist or maybe it's just some kind of weird you know digital assimilation of some kind but you know those are just examples of some of the modern takes and some of the mentalities of what people are thinking of in reference to the world view and how the world exists and what reality is but at the end of the day we need to make sure that we have a proper biblical world view even recently an oxford university professor can this goes to the point that i was making at the beginning an oxford university professor and i think the lesson brings this out has theorized that we the world and everything around us none of it is real wow instead we are the digital creations of a race of aliens with super powerful computers and again these are real people educated people with real ideas and ultimately what we need to ask is what is the nature of reality and i and and really it comes down to two possibilities again some people may think more complex outside of this but it comes down to two foundational possibilities as far as the the realities that are out there today in the in the average mind of people and so the first one is and here it is we've heard of this many times the first is that the universe okay and all that is in it including us just is nothing created it nothing formed it it's just here it is simply a brute fact according to this particular line of thinking there is no god there are no gods there is nothing divine reality is purely material purely natural in other words things just are something potentially came from nothing but at the end of the day it just is versus the second uh true aspect of reality which is where we fall in line is that you know what there's a divine being that created it all there's a divine intelligence behind it all and there are several biblical texts this is where we kind of get into what we believe to be the correct biblical worldview we have to go to the word of god and ask ourselves what does the bible say and how can we today as christians as believers fit our thinking and our understanding in harmony with what we know to be the biblical worldview and there's a few texts that i believe help us line this idea out psalm chapter 53 verse one you got to start there okay let's just let's just make this clear from god's perspective from the divine perspective psalm 53 verse 1 says the fool has said in his heart there is no god okay so let's just start there the fool has said in his heart there is no god yet we live in a in a reality uh pastor loma king knows this very much as we as we get out into the world today and we begin to do evangelism you're going to meet many many more people around the world some of the ideas that come out of some people's minds is just amazing to me and more and more from the atheistic perspective more and more from the the questioning the skeptic mind of where did everything come from and there's got to be an answer for everything and and at the end of the day it leads someone to question even the very reality of we as we have clearly seen that we are living in proverbs chapter 15 verse 3 this is another one and this is actually our uh memory text for the week the eyes of the lord are in every place keeping watch on the evil and the good so this is this is looking into the omniscience and the the the the all-powerfulness of god the all-knowingness of god god knows all he sees all and so there is a reality in which god the divine being created all he knows all there's an intelligence behind creation and that's what the biblical world view teaches john chapter 3 verse 16. now this is where we get into more of a a the spiritual aspect of the biblical world view because we're not talking about just some random all-powerful being that's out there we're talking about a real being that has real feelings that actually is much different than the way the world portrays them notice john 3 16 for god so that's an interesting word to use in in reference to a divine being for god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life god loves i grew up in school or going to school i grew up hearing year after year they taught they taught this greek mythology roman mythology and the idea that these gods you know they're just these all-powerful beings and they all have different attributes and different powers and but the one thing that was consistent with them all is that they really could care less if they had any interaction or any connection with the human world or the lesser world of the humans and so you would the common theme you see in greek mythology and even you know these polytheistic uh religions around the world where they serve many many gods it's this aspect that there's the gods they're out there and then there's us and they really could care less about us in fact many of them wage war against the humans or try to wipe out and destroy humankind but yet christianity is different in the sense that right here the biblical world view of who god is he's not just some divine god up there in the heavens sitting on a cloud with a you know powerful lightning bolt in his hand waiting to just fry the earth as you might see in the story of zeus and some of these other ones but the bible says that god so loved and that's strange right isaiah chapter 45 verse 21 tell and bring forth your case yes let them take counsel together who has declared this from ancient time who has told it from that time have not i the lord and there is he says have not i the lord and there is no other god besides me a just god and a savior there is none besides me we serve a savior so the biblical worldview we have to also consider that not only is god the divine creator of all and that there's a divine intelligence behind creation but also it's very very important that we understand who god is amen i think that's very very powerful and i i i have ran out of my time but i just want to make this clear in the last few seconds that i have here christians have a responsibility to make god who the bible says that he is to clearly communicate who god is from a biblical perspective because many of us are getting in trouble and presenting god to be someone that he is not and it messes up the world view of who god is amen powerful lesson ryan thank you so much beautiful foundation for the biblical worldview and who god is on monday we have leibniz's question now i hope i pronounced his name correctly gottfried wilhelm leibniz was a german philosopher logician and mathematician of the enlightenment he lived from 1646 to 1716 and his question this is part of his argument for the existence of god his question is simply this why is there something rather than nothing that's the question for monday's lesson why is there something rather than nothing he says the sufficient reason is found in a substance which is a necessary being bearing the reason for its existence within itself meaning god has the reason for existence within himself why is there something rather than nothing this is the fundamental question of metaphysics metaphysics of course is that branch of philosophy that examines the fundamental nature of reality which is what you talked about reality including the relationship between mind and matter and substance and attribute and potentiality in actuality so why is there something rather than nothing this provides the setting for our lesson which is all about creation looking at creation go with me to genesis chapter one as our biblical world view the lens through which we view the world there's four points i want to make first god created something out of nothing genesis 1 verse 1. that's right in the beginning god created the heavens and the earth the existence of god is simply assumed no explanation for his existence is given no reason for his origin god is simply given that's right in the beginning god god did what god created that word created in hebrew i love that word bara the verb is used only when god is the subject god created and it's always linked to divine creative activity here it's used of god's ability to create something out of nothing it reminds me of hebrews 11 verse 3. paul says by faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of god so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible it means that god made something out of nothing by what by the word of god in the beginning god in contrast to atheism created alone in contrast to polytheism he rules over creation in contrast to pantheism matter had a beginning as opposed to materialism and the ultimate reality is god not humanity so point number one is god created something out of nothing point number two god spoke and it came into existence that's right genesis 1 verse 3. what did god say god said let there be light and what happened and there was light the phrase god said appears nine times in genesis chapter one god spoke and the worlds were framed and things came into existence it reminds me of psalm 33 let's jump over there psalm 33 verses 6 and 9 by the what's that the word of the lord where the heavens made and the host of them by the breath of his mouth he spoke and it was done he commanded and it stood fast by the word of the lord god spoke and things happened that's right light happened and plants and animals and trees and flowers you and i god formed us and created us but everything else in creation god spoke and it was done point number three all three persons of the godhead father son and holy spirit were involved in creation genesis 1 1. we already read that scripture clearly tells us god's involved in creation that's right in the beginning who god created the heavens and the earth but some people say well god was involved but jesus was not involved he most certainly was involved john 1 i love that that comparison between genesis 1 and john 1. john 1 verse 1 in the beginning was the word and the word was with god and the word was god now who in the world is the word the word is the lord jesus christ john 1 14 the word was made flesh that's right and dwelt among us in the beginning was the word meaning jesus pre-existed from all eternity and the word was with god meaning jesus is divine and the word was god father son together in the beginning verse 3 john 1 verse 3 all things were made through him and without him nothing was made that was made that tells me that everything that happened in creation jesus was involved in and had an integral part in that creation ephesians 3 verse 9 and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in god who created all things through jesus christ god is the agent of creation but jesus is the one who actually made that happen created the worlds through jesus christ and as if that isn't enough hebrews 1 2 tells us the same thing god has in these last days spoken to us by his son whom he's appointed heir to all things through whom also he made the world now the holy spirit was present at creation as well genesis 1 2 this earth was without form and void and darkness was upon the face of the deep and the spirit of god hovered over the face of the waters job talks about it as well in job 26 13 he says by his spirit he adorned the heavens now point number four god created this world in six literal days that's right that is an important world view we can have the world view that god created we can have the world view that god created something out of nothing we can have the world view that god the father son and holy spirit were involved in creation but if we do not have the world view that god created this earth in six literal days there comes a problem with our theology as we go throughout the word of god that's right let's look at that god's creation in these six literal days i see first in genesis 1 5 god's reference to evening and morning being a day he references that genesis 1 5 what did he say god called the light day and the darkness he called night so the evening and the morning were the first day in hebrew it reads literally evening was morning was day one now that's pretty clear would you say that's clear that that's 24-hour period evening was morning was day one if you were to translate into english you'd say and there was evening and there was morning one day it says the same thing in fact the new living translation which we don't usually quote from but it says an evening passed and morning came marking the first day we know that the jews understood this if you look in leviticus 23 32 the jews calculated a day from sunset to sunset right the same way that we keep the sabbath from evening to evening you shall celebrate your sabbath we can also look at the use of the hebrew word for day now that word for day in hebrew is yom and it's used for two different things sometimes it's used for a literal 24-hour period which we believe how it's used in the creation account other times it could be used for an indefinite period of time but when that noun yom this word for day appears in the old testament when it's used with a numeral it always refers to a literal 24-hour period of time which is in the creation account it's always connected with a certain day day one of creation or day two or day three you also think about the interaction as it were between the days of creation what i mean by that is the plants and vegetation were created on day three now if plants were created and it was eons of time until the light was created until not light but until the sun moon and stars were created you would have a problem if there was eons of time that's right that's how would you get photosynthesis and how would plants survive and how would anything survive without the sun for eons of time that's right the other reason is that we see the link between the fourth commandment the seventh day sabbath and a literal six day creation week that link's clearly seen in exodus 20 the fourth commandment exodus 20 verses 8 through 11. remember the sabbath day to keep it holy six days you shall labor and do all your work but the seventh day is the sabbath of the lord your god in it you shall not do any work you nor your son nor your daughter it goes on we jump down to verse 11. it says for in six days the lord made heavens and the earth the sea and all that in them is and rested the seventh day therefore the lord blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it we see here the connection between the six days in which we are to work the six days of six literal days of creation and the seventh day that god blessed and sanctified set apart and made holy we see that of course in the garden of eden genesis 2 when god finished at the end of his creative work those six literal days of creation in the seventh day he blessed and sanctified it so why is there something rather than nothing it's because in the beginning god existent from all eternity created the heavens and the earth amen praise the lord thank you so much that was powerful you're always very thorough and as i'm watching your notes there it's like man you've got so much to talk about but that was a blessing my friends we're going to take a short break and thank you ryan and uh thank you those of you who are tuning in actually i'm going to continue on the biblical world view this lesson has been very been very interesting and if you haven't received a copy of it yet i know that you'll really appreciate uh when we could really open up and walk through the word of god together i'm on tuesday october 20th if you have your lesson just go along with me i'm gonna read briefly the introduction because world view is something that i really appreciate having traveled more than 60 countries i could sit here this morning and recognize that um you know i i know what's going on in australia i could understand what people are doing in new guinea i understand we've been to paris together and we've been there more than once parts of asia the caribbean i just recently saw i had the opportunity to go down to the virgin islands and when i saw someone's picture on facebook of the virgin islands i immediately got sick because i said i should be there and so my my mind i could sit here in world view it makes a difference in how you communicate how we think and how we are able to put a lesson together we start considering cultures and people how they think to be able to structure together and in the introduction of the lesson it says as said in the introduction none of us views the world from a neutral position nobody does one writer says when people say that they are not biased that's not possible everyone is biased everyone has a bias to something that's right right so when people say have an open mind that open mind is is is filtered by that person's world view right if we say how fast was he and i heard this example somebody talked about a snail versus a rabbit and they said the snail said that rabbit was fast then somebody else compared a car to a bicycle says that car was fast then somebody else compared a cessna 152 to a fighter jet and they said that jet was fast you notice each of the comparisons somebody compared a high school runner to usain bolt and they said he was fast so it all depends on the comparison what you're comparing it to so what i like to what i'd like to dive into is i like to use the gospels in the comparison of the worldview a lot of people read the bible for the purpose of using it to as a tool to argue with christians and they say well matthew mark luke and john don't always jive together they have some differences well consider the thought before i get into the lesson consider the following thought you're standing on one of the four corners where an accident occurs and a large crowd gathers and what is pertinent to the person who was injured in the accident and the person who was involved in the accident in america we use this phrase alleged we see alleged in other words until it's proven it's alleged but sometimes that irritates me because you know you can see video of a guy mowing down people with a machine gun and they say he allegedly shot them and i thought well did he have a stand-in that's him you get what i'm saying now now my world view goes now to uh to places like dubai or abu dhabi where in the very same context this is a kind of a crude illustration but it was on the news where a person with an extreme view took the life of an american school teacher in a woman in a female's bathroom in the airport and the only two people in the bathroom they saw this person coming out the cameras caught the face of the person they didn't use the word she allegedly took that person's life they said we got a video and she was hung three days later no due process all right what a difference in world view so when we went over to dubai my my wife was told leave your pocketbook on the table we went a huge massive restaurant leave it right there my wife said but my put all my bill they said it's fine leave it right there we were in a restaurant there were hundreds of people she said leave it at the table let's go to the bar and get our our food she said believe me leave it there nobody will touch it wow and no one touched it she said in this country if you steal something your hand is cut off oh in this country people take crimes seriously in america they allegedly took her purse in dubai or in the middle east oh we got you on video three days later you'll be you won't be able to wave goodbye any longer not to make light of that but the world view of justice is quite different when you think about the world they literally think of an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth so they said it's one of the safest societies in the world for women a woman could walk the street and nobody would even consider bothering her because they are thinking of the consequences what a difference in world view as compared to america now sometimes we think well we wouldn't mind having some of that but then again boy it'll really turn our world upside down right so when we think about worldview let's go to the book of jonah i want to show you something and i'm i'm kind of diving in a completely different direction than the writer because these questions that are asked in the context of jonah chapter one are very pertinent to developing a person's world view now we know the story jonah was told to go to nineveh he went to tarshish instead he went in the opposite direction turbulence hit the mariners couldn't control the ship the the passengers knew something was wrong and we start now verses seven to nine and if you follow the story uh jonah went down he went down he went down he went down the life of a person running from the lord but now verse seven and they said to one another trying to figure out why the ship is in such disrepair come let us cast lots that we may know for whose cause this trouble has come to us so they cast lots and the lot fell on jonah then they said to him please tell us for whose cause is this trouble upon us now notice the questions these are all worldview questions what is your occupation okay second one where do you come from third what is your country fourth and of what people are you and his sheepish disobedient response i am a hebrew and i fear the lord the god of heaven who made the sea and the dry land then if that's in fact the case jonah why are you going in the opposite direction not a good time to testify about your relationship with the lord when you're in club partying oh right or when you're at a magazine stand looking at what you shouldn't or when you're buying something that has alcohol in it and the person next to you says i watch you on three abn now that hasn't happened i just want to make that point very clear but um i noticed i was in it i was in a store uh this is years ago in california i don't know cap i had on dark sunglasses i had on shorts it was a sunday long before 3am but i had been on television on tbn with heritage singers and somebody said hey is that you and i turned around startlingly they said hey i watch you with heritage and i said to my wife you know now our slogan is we cannot do so we can't be disobedient anywhere in the world because you never know we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses so when you think about that think about the the questions asked to jonah and that when you begin to answer these questions you begin to understand the impact of your life on a world stage because jonah's life what is your occupation i know years ago the question was asked to a pastor on an airplane what do you do and he said to the person hey i'm a i i am a motivational speaker what he didn't know well that person was going to the same place he went and they both ended up at a camp meeting and that lady who was not a christian said i saw him on the plane he told me he was a motivational speaker but he's a pastor what is your occupation are you a christian all the time are you a christian all the time when you think about our responsibility i can't be a pastor only when i'm in a church i've got to pay up be a pastor all the time so i'm challenging you as a person who is um a christian most of you watching are christians many of you watching our seventh day adventist you must understand your position mindset of who you are all the time must be applicable to the witness that you give of christ because the way that you demonstrate would affect people's world view about your occupation amen the other one where do you come from now this is a very challenging one because west indian people i know that if you say to a person that's from jamaica they're from trinidad it's an offense or if you're from uh puerto rico and they're from spain it's an offense people look at where they're from as highly a thing of pride but the christian must look at where they're headed yeah so that that shapes my worldview more than where i'm from because as you can tell i go to the virgin islands and come back with a tan like this and many many shades dark and people think i'm from india as somebody once said is your husband from india no well what is he and my wife went through the litany he's filipino white black and native american they said never mind but my world view is i am a christian where am i from is not as important as where i'm headed that's right the third on what is your country as a christian the answer is very simple my citizenship is in heaven thank you but my location is on earth so when we consider our citizenship once again it affects our worldview that means we should be christians wherever we are and we never know who is watching so make sure that you're representing the citizenship of the kingdom where you're headed rather than where you came from and also finally what people are you what people am i i'm a seventh-day adventist christian now i take that with a sense of spirit is there such thing as spiritual pride be careful be careful that's a tight that's a tight rope yeah maybe i should say appreciation yes appreciating the foundation of my spiritual conviction allows me to appreciate everyone else's conviction because jesus says your worldview affects how you communicate with others other sheep i have that are not of your fold so me keep that in mind when you represent the christ of what people you are of america thank you you know i was thinking as you were talking about this comparison part of our problem even as christians is that we have been infiltrated with greek thinking you know we're trying to prove something this book the bible is a hebrew document primarily so hebrews you know when it starts off in the beginning god it just tells it assumes god existed doesn't try to prove that he existed but the first 11 chapters of genesis cover 2 000 years of history but then the next 39 cover 150 years of history heavily weighted toward the abrahamic covenant so this is a book of covenant and boy our world view if we don't look at this from a hebrew perspective we're going to miss a lot now i have wednesdays worship the redeemer jill you covered pretty well we were supposed to cover john 1 1-14 in the beginning was the word was he was eternal and the word was with god that means he was distinct from god you've got two persons of the godhead right there and the word was god he is divine he always has been the word became flesh and he dwelt among us i want to take you to philippians 2 5-8 because if we think about worshiping the redeemer we've got to recognize who this redeemer is we jill did such a beautiful job of covering him as creator there are people even in the christian world who think of jesus the person of jesus christ as the son of god they think of the son of god almost in a secondary sense like there is priority god the father god the son maybe then the holy spirit but let's look at this philippians 2 verse 5 let this mind be in you which was also in christ jesus who being in the form of god and the word there in the greek for form denotes an essential unchanged character of something so paul's right here saying hey jesus eternally has been god he said he did not consider it robbery to be equal with god because he was god but he made himself of no reputation taking the form of a bondservant coming in the likeness of men and being found in the appearance of a man he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death even the death of the cross jesus christ crucified resurrected is at the center of all we believe so it's important for us to understand the triune godhead to me when we say first john 4 8 first john 4 16 says god is love this is the essence of his being but you know to love you have to have a recipient of love if god were just we don't believe that it's god one plus one plus one that would equal three but it's god the father son and holy spirit one times one times one one cubed one to the third power and his presence is in the cube think of the holy of holies was a cube the the new jerusalem coming down is a cube so to me that's excited to understand that god came down to become the son of man to become the son of god it was god who went to the cross why should we worship our redeemer he is our creator matthew 1 23 repeats the prophecy of isaiah 7 14. it says behold the virgin shall be with child and bear a son they shall call his name emmanuel which is translated god with us it was god who came to earth to become a man hebrews 1 8 says to the son he says your throne this is the father speaking to the son interesting language your throne o god is forever and ever speaking to the son you see our creator became our redeemer and he paid the price to free us from the bondage of sin what happens according i love this scripture now that i've done more study on it i really first corinthians 15 45. first corinthians 15 45 will help us understand the person of jesus christ it says the first man adam became a living being the last adam is a life give became a life-giving spirit it's wrong to call jesus the second adam he's the last adam see this is covenant language adam was called the son of god when god came down to become the son of man when he was incarnated born of a woman he became the son of man and the son of god he was the last adam the covenant is all about a succession of covenant sons when we think of the word the son of god as i said adam is called the son of god david was referred to as the son of god the son of god is a covenant term so god in the person of jesus christ became the son of god as the second and the last adam excuse me when we use the word firstborn in the covenant language it doesn't necessarily mean the order of the chronological order of your birth as a matter of fact in exodus 4 22 let's look there exodus 4 22 this is god speaking and he says you shall say to pharaoh thus says the lord israel is my son what this is covenant language israel was the son of god he says my first born see firstborn just simply means it's the channel through which covenant blessings are going to pass israel wasn't the first nation but god chose them for a covenant purpose look at deuteronomy 32 18. and the reason i'm wanting to stress this i hope i don't confuse you this is just to introduce you to this concept but in deuteronomy 32 verse 18 god says of israel or speaking of god he says of the rock who be got you begotten yes the word can mean that you've given birth to a child but in covenant language when it is used did god give birth to israel no it means they're set apart for a covenant purpose so when it's talking about jesus being when he said the lord said to him today i have begotten you the important point is to remember it was god who went to the cross for us that's right it wasn't some secondary situation here first timothy 3 16 says great is the mystery of godliness god was manifested in the flesh justified in the spirit preached among the gentiles believed on the world and received up in glory he is the eternal person the second person of the godhead who became the last adam and died for us i think that is amazing now let's we want to tie that in and i really didn't have much of a chance to look at the lesson for thursday but the thursday's lesson is talking about the law of god let's begin with exodus chapter 3 and verse 2. just turn in your bibles to exodus i hope i can get where i want to go with this but exodus chapter 3 and verse 2 says this the angel of the lord appeared to him in a flame to moses in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush and he looked and behold the bush was burning with fire the angel of the lord the word angel there means messenger it means who's in this burning bush take off your shoes you're on holy ground this is god this is jesus christ who is in the burning bush the angel of the lord now also we know that if you turn to i've got i did write a note down somewhere here real quickly if you turn to exodus 19 and verse 4. let's turn there in exodus 19 4 i love this verse god says you have seen what i did to the egyptians and how i bore you on eagle's wings and brought you to myself this is covenant love language god had already redeemed them from is from egypt he had already brought them out he'd saved them they'd come through the red sea now they've come to he's telling them gather before me on mount sinai and what does god do he comes down with shocking aw pyrotechnics there's fire there's smoke he's going to show them they've forgotten who he is that he is good that he is just that he is holy and when he speaks his ten commandments it's not in that tone of thou shall not i'm sure the voice of the lord they say is like the many rushing waters but these are 10 promises he's going to show them his love and on the first tablet he's saying to them hey when you're in covenant relationship with me my saved ones you will not have other gods before me you will not make idols like they did in egypt you won't bow down to those you won't take my name in vain you are going to be so excited about the sabbath you will remember the sabbath you will come to me to fellowship you will not you will honor your mother and father you won't murder you won't commit adultery you won't steal you won't bear false testimony and you're not going to coven covet why because that's what covenant relationship with me is like you know i want you to look at the preamble to these ten commandments god's speaking them he says i am the lord your god who brought you out of the land of egypt out of the house of bondage oh blessed be the name of the lord he is telling them i'm your savior so they're not going to have to obey these 10 commandments to be saved they're going to obey them as an expression of covenant love and loyalty because he's already saved them now this is interesting we know that james tells us james what is it 2 8 that if you break one you break them all the ten commandments are linked together as a body you can't break a chain in the middle and still be keeping his commandments so let's look at the fourth commandment because the very one that god says remember is the one everybody forgets in commandment number four this is exodus 20 and verse 8. this is the longest commandment he says remember the sabbath day to keep it holy six days you shall labor some people need to hear that six days you shall labor and do all your work but the seventh day is the sabbath the lord your god i want to pause genesis 2 2 3 mentions the seventh day three times in creation it says god rested on the seventh day god bless the seventh day god sanctified the seventh day only god can sanctify a day setting it apart for holy purposes and then he goes on to say in it you shall do no work you nor your son nor your daughter nor your male servant nor your female servant nor your cattle nor your stranger who was within your gates i remember i didn't grow up as a sabbath keeper i was 50 years old when god called me to full-time ministry he told me i i'm praying and saying lord you gotta show me what you want me to teach and you know what the lord impressed upon my mind is come sit at my feet i will teach you he started me on the study of the sanctuary i found out his ten commandments were written on stone inside the ark that meant permanence then i found out that the book of the covenant all of the rest of those regulations in which the ten commandments was the heart was on the side pocket of the ark and all of a sudden i'm going there's only one commandment that i'm not keeping and i studied the sabbath commandment i have never been so excited the first time that i celebrated a sabbath the sabbath is a memorial of god as creator but the one it's a memorial that he is the one who is recreating us in the image of jesus it's a memorial that he is our redeemer that he is our savior the sabbath also god says in exodus 31 13. he said my sabbath i gave to you as a sign that i am the one who sanctifies you if you don't know what the word sanctify means actually it's a synonym for holy but both of those words just mean to be set apart that's right for god so all of my life i had grown up in a new testament church then i had gone into a full gospel type church a non-denominational church but you know what all of my life i performed for god i tried to earn his favor it was not until the the day that i began celebrating the sabbath i remember that first sabbath day as it rolled in i was just like oh lord thank you that i am not only justified by grace through faith but you're the one that is going to sanctify me you are the one is philippians 2 13 says who is working in me to will willing to do your good pleasure you are the one as philippians 1 6 says that is going to complete the good work you've begun in me you know i have to say this to my friends out there first john chapter 3 and verse 4 says sin is the transgression of the law if god intended to do away with his law if he would have changed his sabbath day we know that daniel 7 25 says that there is going to be a power who thinks to take change times and laws that's right the only time that we find in god's law is the sabbath time but if god intended to do that he would have announced it and he never does the new testament is the outworking of all of god's covenant promises and he promises you that you will walk in loyalty and obedience if you just understand how much he loves you amen wow praise the lord that was powerful shelley thank you so much well we have just a little over two minutes left let's get some final thoughts from the panel i had monday leibniz's question why is there something rather than nothing and why is that because in the beginning god created and he not only created this world but he sent his son jesus to die for us because he wanted to redeem us so that we could spend an eternity with him okay and mine was on the biblical worldview when i narrow it down to the biblical worldview i think that is so easy when we talk to people that may not believe what we believe we can narrow it down to say here is this the the reality of the biblical worldview is we all are born we all die and we all need a savior and when we when we approach it from that perspective people will begin to see that it's not your viewpoint nor your opinion but we are at that beginning point of birth on the same plane and each one of us is in need of a savior amen and mine was wednesday worshiped the redeemer why should we worship him because he is our creator remember the covenant language when we talk about the son of god it's the son of the covenant the firstborn is the preeminent it doesn't have anything to do in covenant language about the uh chronology and begotten doesn't in mean to be birthed but to be set aside for chosen for covenant purposes and then the law of god oh this is god's way of putting boundaries around us so that we will walk in his blessings and avoid sin's consequences amen praise the lord there was a section from sunday's lesson that i didn't get a chance to read but i want to read it now because i think it ties everything together it's essential to any christian education is the reality not just of god but of the kind of god that he is a personal god who loves us and who interacts with us and i think that's powerful when we know who god is and we have the correct biblical view then everything comes together and makes sense so thank you so much for joining us this week on 3abn sabbah school panel we hope that you join us next week for lesson number five jesus as the master teacher so you have a blessed day and we will see you right back here next week god bless [Music] you
