hey youtube in this video i'm going to be talking about the abus bordeaux range of foldable locks and why you should absolutely not buy one i'm going to give about three main reasons save your money do not get these they do not protect your bike the back story is i'm seeing so many posts of brand new bikes in brussels getting stolen and they bought one of these with the new bike in the shop i don't know if the shop's recommending them giving them a 10 discount because they bought the bike there so the people feel like they're getting a good deal another thing i've heard is that people like it because it sits uniformly on the frame it doesn't like rattle around and like a u-lock can or the chain you can't easily put one of these big chains on the bike because the the lock keeps it in the frame so these are very they go on the frame easy they look nice they feel kind of heavy they're absolutely rubbish for protecting your bike for three main reasons first one straight away the steel is too thin it says it's five millimeters thick that's wrong that's incorrect it's five millimeters including this kind of rubber and plastic yeah which doesn't even go all the way through where you see this logo you can actually cut off this rubber and plastic with a stanley knife then you're left with about two millimeters of steel now i showed in my other video that you can cut through an abus granite u-lock in well it took five minutes but someone actually timed how long i was cutting for and it was between 60 to 90 seconds so do the math if that is 60 to 90 seconds to cut through and it's 10 millimeters thick this is about two millimeters thick how long is that going to take to cut through with a circular saw not long at all that's the image i keep seeing on facebook groups please check him out in your own areas um for yeah stolen bikes police aware whatever you will see lots of these with just a perfect cut all the way through because people can carry circular saw electric circular saw in their backpack and cut through these very very quickly so number one it's too thin here number two it shouldn't have all these links what's good about a foldable bike about a foldable lock that makes no sense at all it's weaker where each of these links are the good thing about a u-lock is the shackle is a uniform piece of metal it's more vulnerable here you can break it with a rebar cutter hydraulic rebar cutter or just huge bolt cutters they can go in there they can bust it out and just snap through in the middle so each one of these it's more vulnerable as well so too thin here vulnerable here the last thing is yeah it's handy that you can make it uh bigger that it can unravel all the way around to trap it around a movable object but the thing that does is it makes it much easier to cut through that you can position it so you've got it around your movable object but when you want to cut it if you're a bike thief that means you can position it away from the bike so the circular saw isn't going to damage the frame or other parts of the bike which lowers the resale value and makes it look stolen so you can move it into a nice position and there's also tension which you need for when you're cutting it through if you're cutting a chain it can move around a bit unless you put it on top of the frame and push down then you can slip and damage the frame this is perfect for getting in the right position getting a bit of tension between the bike frame and the wall or whatever and just cutting through in exactly the same place now the range it goes from 5 to 15 levels of security 50 to 100 euros that's all marketing okay the difference between them is that the core of the lock mechanism like someone's going to pick you know pick the lock no one's going to pick the lock they're going to use tools to break the log so don't spend money on any of them but particularly not the ones higher up maybe the ones at the very top they'll be called plus x plus or something where they use higher density steel again i don't think it's going to make that much difference against the circular saw so end of don't buy one of these i made another video where i talk about different types of locks that will protect your bike for longer against the circular saw like one of these please check it out any comments put them below thanks
