The Dutch Army Canteen with Belgian Cup and Cover

hello everyone thanks for joining me today we're in the green swamp today doing a little day hike and I wanted to take the time while it's here to show you this the Belgian Army canteen so sit back and enjoy the review okay so this is the Belgian canteen and as you can see it has a very unique camouflage pattern on it they call it on the Internet at least a jigsaw pattern and it's really cool I think it's a I like it a lot there's I've seen a lot of people different people wearing the shirts and the pants from this this pattern which is pretty cool it's kind of let's start with the cover kind of got these unique snaps here which is kind of cool you pop this one off pop this one off and the cover it's got a scene here it opens it up alright and the inside is insulated so you got this canvas cover on the outside and the inside is this kind of foam rubber type insulation which is designed to keep the canteen water either cool or keep it from freezing a little bit but it's pretty neat okay so it adds some kind of insulation for sure the actual canteen we'll set it here ok so I've got a cup down in here too which is supposed to go with this set it is a little bit difficult to get it out especially when old camera okay but there's the cup thanks and now you can see all the way down side that insulation goes all the way to the bottom which is really nice thanks on the back is a kind of a unique system for attaching to equipment I have used it on my belt that's what I walked out here I carried it on extra on my belt coming out here to this camp but - if you want to slip it over something like maybe even Molly straps I haven't tried that but it unsnap right here and then you would slip this out like that hopefully you can see that - trying to my best with the Sun coming in here but you could slip it over some kind of loops or whatever and attach it to different kinds of equipment yeah has a drain hole in the bottom so if it does rain on you that it would drain out for some of the water spilled inside okay so let's go on to the cup the cup is a little different than the usgi version number one it's made of aluminum most usgi cups or stainless steel there is a few aluminum versions it has a rolled edge which is very nice for drinking out of okay and as butterfly handles it's very similar design to the French military canteen cup as a matter of fact it's super similar especially way to these go in I suspect it was made by the same company because they're closely related but this cup is definitely smaller than the French military canteen cup okay on the bottom see if I can get this on film it says baby I brought my usgi canteen cup today as a comparison but you can see hopefully you can tell on the film that this usgi cup is actually larger than this one okay they're about the same height but the inside part is smaller okay there's not even much of a fan see how this has a lot of bin and this one is kind of more flatter than the other one if you take a this is my now gene I brought today but it's the same size as the 1 quart usgi military canteen basically you try to put it inside it only goes that far so it's not it's definitely smaller cupped in the usgi version right if you slip the canteen shop stove over this it sits on there but it's pretty loose so it's not an exact fit for this guy either some of the some of the stats about this cup it holds two and a half cups all the way to the rim of water okay so filled all way to capacity or 600 milliliters the cup by itself weighs seven point seven ounces or 218 grams that's the Belgium canteen cup okay so let's go lastly to the actual canteen itself it's made of a hard plastic very similar to the usgi one green in color at least this one has some have a black lid on it this one actually has the the green one I think the black one if I'm not mistaken has the place for the gas mask to hook up to so you can drink while your why you have your gas mask on markings that are on it I'm not sure how to say that but that is I think is Dutch for do not heat right here knit ver warming I might please don't make fun of me for for them but I tried my best but but that does mean do not heat just kind of like the usgi canteen has don't use a fire don't using the fire also there's a KL and a zero zero so I believe that this canteen was actually manufactured in 2000 so some other stuff about it it holds three and a half quarts or 800 milliliters okay so it's a it's definitely smaller water capacity but I think it's perfect for a day hike like this you're just gonna go out and spend the day in the woods there's it's you know just a half a cup short of of the usgi capacity okay so lastly I just want to talk about how much it weighs away with canteen empty no water in it it weighs one pound and two ounces that's with the canteen the cup and the cover all together and it's 508 grams so I've seen a lot of these on the market now but most of them that I've seen on the market only comes with the cover and the canteen I had to find the cup separately okay and the first the first cup ordered I got from military surplus here and in the US I forget the name of it sportsmen guide I think they were selling a Belgian canteen cup set you had to buy three of them and they actually turn out to be French once that's how closely related these are when I put this canteen inside of it was just flopping around it was totally loose so it wasn't the right one I found this one overseas on eBay and I knew it was the right one because you can see inside of here you can see that the butterfly handle wear pattern that the soldier carried it was like this and the ones I got from sports when God did not match that wear pattern inside of here but it does match this pattern so I know I've got the right set and plus also the actual canteen does fit correctly so if you want to be if you want a canteen that's totally different than anybody in your group you know what this nice camo pattern with an insulated cover like this okay but you don't mind it being half of a cup short of water then I would highly recommend this set it's a it's really cool to have it's different I always get comments about especially you know they asked me what kind of set is that I've never seen that before so it's really cool well I did decide to make something with it I'm gonna add to this video just gonna make me some coffee right now cuz we're not really ready to start cooking yet so I'll use my canteen SHOP stove here add some water and I only have instant coffee with me today that should do it right there put it up on there now I don't think my my canteen I've got the one from the Pathfinder school probably at least sit on top of it yeah it will sit on top of a release and and then decrease my ball time but you can see how much more bigger the lid is in this actual cup so I'll be back in just a minute okay I'd say that's hot enough whoa bumblebee okay so it's didn't take very long at all to get hot okay over here I just changed my mind I'm gonna have some hot chocolate I made my own hot chocolate mix and this has got actually got coffee in it which is pretty cool okay then you're gonna need a glove when you grab these handles because those handles are aluminum also so let me get my glove on here all right here we go and there you have it nice hot chocolate for a cool day here in Florida so anyways this time I am signing off check out this canteen if you would like to if you want something different like I said before and I believe you would
