THE DOBERMAN VS THE ROTTWEILER - WHO IS FIERCEST?

hello and welcome to animal watch and this week we're meeting doberman hello and welcome to animal watch and this week we're meeting the rottweiler hello last year i filmed both of the world's most powerful guard dogs the european doberman and the rottweiler both huge both driven and both incredibly strong but which one is the best which one is the better guard dog which one is the better family dog and which one is the most powerful watch today and see if you agree with animal watch on who is to be crowned the best guard dog of the two the european doberman a formidable guarding breed created by taxman louis doberman in 19th century germany to produce an imposing but dependable protector to accompany him on his rounds this notorious tax collector's dog quickly gained an international reputation as a working dog supreme he is banned in singapore and the bermuda islands with restrictions to the breed in spain ireland certain u.s states and the ukraine the usa have developed a finer bones show line so for this episode we will be concentrating on the heavier working line of the european doberman the rottweiler dating back to the roman empire he is a descendant of the ancient cattle herding drover dogs many years later the breed was brought to germany where they were named after rottweil a town where they herded cattle as well as using their skills as strong carp pulling dogs the wide mouths rottweiler is banned in ecuador and bermuda with restrictions to the breed in ireland portugal romania and singapore both huge both muscular both powerful with a bite that can sever a limb both also extremely trainable and family orientated with their protective powers stretching to caring for young children and animals these dogs are not only feared for their ferociousness but also revered for their trainability which makes them both exceptional breeds but which one is best let's start the competition intimidating appearance the european doberman tall athletically muscular slim elegant with rippling muscles looking like a fast ninja often seen with cropped ears and a docked tail adding to his spiky majestic appearance teeth huge and visible and a long muzzle equipped to bite down hard and long legs able to propel him through a private garden at such speed that a burglar would not have a chance the rottweiler large rounder and extremely muscular looking like a heavyweight boxer not usually seen with cropped ears but sometimes a docked tail his mouth is much wider than a doberman and his smile larger his powerful frame heavy and his strength lying in his takedown more than his speed which one would you fear the most on appearance alone which one would you run from more than the other we have awarded the european doberman five out of five and the rottweiler five out of five for intimidating appearance the doberman scores five as he looks so fast he could certainly outrun you no matter how fast you run teeth snapping up your rear the rottweiler however looks like those jaws would make mince meat of you and crush your limbs both extremely intimidating in appearance height and weight which one has the strength and size to be a formidable guard dog the tallest male european doberman stands at 28 inches at the shoulder long lean and muscular the rottweiler stands at 27 inches at the shoulder for the largest male so not only is he wide but almost as tall as the doberman the largest european doberman weighs in at 80 pounds 36 kilograms this is a great weight and means he can easily knock a full-grown man off his feet as his lean stature would mean he would be fast as well as powerful the largest rottweiler weighs in at 130 pounds 59 kilograms which is incredibly heavy perhaps he may not be as fast as our doberman but once he has you he has so much more muscle and weight than the doberman that the damage may end up being far more severe we have awarded the european doberman four out of five for speed due to his height and weight but the rottweiler wins five out of five simply because his weight makes him so much more powerful once he has apprehended his target so the rottweiler wins in heights and weight congratulations our rottie [Applause] trainability both these breeds have had careful breeding over hundreds of years to create trainable animals ones that are not only responsive but will follow a human's command immediately and with great efficiency if trained correctly however both breeds are banned in certain countries as the character of the dog is always down to the human and the way he raises them so sadly the dark side of both breeds characters have emerged when irresponsible humans have used them as a weapon or simply not socialized them enough so how about as protection dogs the european doberman is offered out as a protection dog all over the world due to his ability to be extremely protective and responsive as a guardian he is considered to be one of the most intelligent dog breeds he is an excellent watchdog will follow commands effortlessly watch him and be right on the criminal when he is needed to be he is considered to be more of a one-person dog and absolutely adores his owner and will lay his life down for him but one question comes up repeatedly why are not more doberman used in the police force and tend to be replaced by german shepherds and malinois the most surprising answer is actually because they don't have an undercoat and this causes them to not be so good at working in colder climes they also pause fractionally before executing a command whereas german shepherds tend to react before thinking making them quicker in action they are quite gentle souls underneath i want to please their owner at all times some protection trainers have mentioned that some doberman are not suitable for work as they can be borderline unstable and when errors are made it is often made by the doberman breeds they are training over their other breeds this is down to some being nervia in demeanor and sometimes fractionally more highly strung this is why it's important to source stable dopamine from good european working line kennels the rottweiler is also offered as a protection dog but you see him less advertised on websites instead we see more doberman kane corso and the german shepherd why is this this is apparently down to recent poor breeding contributing to less strong and highly driven working lines these once powerful dogs have been ruined by breeders injecting poor dna resulting in far less solid working lines available we asked some protection trainers and this is why they said that they don't use them so much as it's hard to source really good working lines these days whereas it's far easier to source great european doberman cane corso and german shepherd instead however if you look hard you will find some out there which have come from the few solid working lines there are the rottweiler is used less as a police dog these days due to aggression problems lack of agility lifespan and a dangerous bite the police opt simply for guaranteed trainable dogs which mean german shepherds and malinois tend to get selected these days over the other breeds so which one wins for trainability we are awarding our doberman five out of five for trainability and the rottweiler four out of five simply as the european doberman is used far more in protection work and reacts quicker with more stability than the rottweiler congratulations our doberman you win this round safety in a family environment both breeds have the ability to be exceptional family pets and will protect children with their lives but again this is down to the line they come from and the training and socialization they receive when growing up firstly both breeds need to be sourced from a guaranteed stable background where you can meet both parents and request a dog with a character suited to a home environment for this sourcing from working lines can create more highly strung dogs who need exercising hard so they can relax at home the european doberman need for family runs through his soul and this is the single most reason he will want to protect you and your family he will need to be raised with kind and gentle children as he will tell them off if they hurt him it's not fair to have a child kick and hurt a puppy then expect it not to react the doberman will respect the children and see them as an important part of his family but it's up to the parents to make sure the kids are kind and gentle american doberman owners have experienced some clingy nervous and highly strung specimens which has affected the way people view the doberman in the usa around children calling them unpredictable but they are not the same breed as the european doberman whose grounded personality and solid demeanor means he is calm and strong around his family if you want a really calm family pet then i would seek out the german and european lines however if the doberman feels that a friend of the family or a relative seeks to hurt a child he may just let you know that that's unacceptable so please be careful the rottweiler can be an incredible family dog and recent breeding in the uk during animal watch encounters have met responsible breeders who have showed us dogs that are very balanced and will live with children very easily and protect them however statistically worldwide rottweilers have far more attack fatalities than the doberman which can be attributed to bad breeding lines and irresponsible handlers some puppies can be reactive with badly behaved children and people keeping a rottweiler are advised to train the children in manners when it comes to handling the puppies as causing a puppy pain could result in a protective bite when all the puppy is doing is telling the child that it's unacceptable to hurt him also rotties can be boisterous with play which can result in a few bumps with small kids they are protective of their family and will make sure they will defend their pack but the humans need to be kind and respectful to the dog so who wins this round for the reason stated we will award the doberman five out of five as a family pet and the rottweiler four out of five as he just pips the roti to the post here as slightly more stable in a home environment congratulations our doberman ferocity statistically the rottweiler has been responsible for more attacks and fatalities worldwide than the european doberman however the u.s doberman has been responsible for many nervy bites on humans due to his more nervous demeanor but our european doberman is far more stable and listens to commands rather than acting on how he is feeling this is why the u.s line of doberman is not used as much in protection work recent bad breeding in rottweilers which have contributed to them being used less in lines of work means that currently he is probably higher than the doberman for ferocity and unpredictable behaviour but breeders are working very hard to rectify this and many exceptional rottweilers are being bred and the poorer lines are being bred out the european doberman is considered to be very stable and trustworthy he is also ferocious as a guard dog and protection dog but reacts more to command than gut reaction so for this we will award the rottweiler five out of five ferocity and the doberman four out of five as he simply is more in control of his behavior which is a good thing i would say congratulations to our rottie but scoring five out of five for ferocity really isn't a positive hopefully the brilliant breeders out there will help him regain his solid working reputation of old in the years to come so let's talk up the points the doberman scores 23 out of 25 and the rottweiler also scores 23 out of 25. so both breeds are winners congratulations our european doberman and rottweiler both breeds excel better in certain areas which shows that in fact they aren't that similar and quite different dogs to have as a pet or as a protection dog as we mentioned here on animal watch socialization and training makes for a safe and solid pet that you trust around your
