Youβre telling me a $4 meal at a sit-down restaurant isnβt sustainable?
FWIW, they bragged about their βhand-dipped milk shakes,β but they were scooping out shake base, not ice cream. And they were soooo overpriced.
I loved Steak and Shake. I have heard there is still one in St. Peters. Here's the thing though, when I can get my shake from shake shack in 2 minutes, it's hard to compete.
Side note, has anyone had the 2 dollar shakes at schlotzsky's. Those things are insane. And supposedly they are opening even more locations, last I heard they were adding one in Ellisville and Sunset Hills
I grew up in St. Louis, and when going back to visit family a few years back I took my wife. I had hyped up Steak n Shake, about how much time I spent in high school there, and how it was real food prepared quickly, not fast food.
Enter her one and only experience. She orders a grilled cheese with tomato. She gets grilled cheese with bacon. Sends it back, as she's vegetarian. Gets grilled cheese and tomato on the next try, only the cheese wasn't grilled - it was just slices of cheese. Sends it back. Finally manager brings out a grilled cheese with tomato.
She refuses to go back to any Steak n Shake.
Can someone who watched the full video provide a recap? Iβve tried, but the announcers voice annoyed me enough that I had to turn it off.
I have always liked Steak N Shake. Still do, but (as everyone here knows) their service absolutely stinks. Iβm only going to wait 40-minutes in a drive though every once in a while. In terms of their food, I have never once had an issue. I would eat there more often if I didnβt have to commit so much time to it.
EDIT - was out running errands tonight, hadnβt eaten dinner and happened to be near a Steak N Shake (Telegraph Road). Four cars in front of me in the drive though and I still had my food in 5-minutes. $4.00 Double-Steak Burger with Cheese and a small chocolate shake. A+ experience.
I guess I'm a bit spoiled. Steak N Shake near me (Elm & Watson) is still around so I've been in this bubble not realizing that it's one of the only ones in the area when there used to be tons more.
My ex was a GM at a Sns in St. Louis: he told me that franchisees/owners would routinely go into the computer system to erase hours that had already been worked (aka wage theft). It happened so much that there were eventually lawsuits over it, which Sns lost to the tune of 7 million, but decided that closing stores were preferable to paying up, which is why almost all the St. Louis locations were closed down.
Sardar Bigliari is the epitome of βhuman trash.β
What's with the dude emphasizing words...'pattieeeeeees,' 'ingredientsssssss,; successfullllll...'
