Threads still scares the bejaysus out of me. I remember when it was first aired, in the midst of the 80s cold war terror and protect and survive leaflets still available at public libraries. It sure made childhood fun...
If you want more of a UK-centric view of things, I highly recommend the book War Plan UK by Duncan Campbell and try the BBC pseudo documentary The War Game by Peter Watkins.
