Linda was last definitely seen at about 8:50 p.m. on 26th September 1998 she was 19 years old this year is the 20th anniversary of Belinda's disappearance it's really hard especially just not not knowing what happened she was sure that somebody was trying to kill her there were people that turned up at the doorstep at 2 3:00 in the morning I belied that there was fail play involved right from the start she was taken from us unfairly rumors were going around kba that somebody was standing over her why did he disch charge me with murder very initial police investigation was deficient we'll never know whether or not they're telling the truth it's made it one of the trickiest inquests I've ever done I am here trying to tell the truth unfortunately I think she's dead 15 years and you got nothing on me nothing did you kill Belinda p somebody knows something that's a simp that you know it's not a um disappearing with the fairies that only happens in Alice and Wonderland movies somebody knows something he believe she disappeared on the 26th of September 1998 but but that's really a belief all we can say is that's when she was last known to be alive we don't know what happened the following day and thereafter because there's been no trace of her since then who was Linda Paisley what was her background history what were her relationships whether or not the evidence will establish that she is deceased the fact is she had a family she had an aunt that she was close to never contacted her had a mother never contacted her had two young children never contacted them had people she associated with hasn't contact with them I still can't be 100% sure but everything is leading to the fact that someone has hurt Linda unfortunately um so yeah I'm hoping though I have hope that maybe she's out there somewhere it's been 14 years before it's got before a coroner you know which is a ridiculous amount of time for a a missing person come murder investigation doesn't get any easier as the time doesn't heal any wounds in fact I think it's worse than not knowing I think you know you can never ever have closure the most obvious challenge in this inquest is the lapse of time between the holding of the inquest and a disappearance and so a lot of the evidence has gone cold that's something I hope that the coroner does deal with and hopefully makes recommendations to the police department pick up where when a person is reported missing his action it's straight away Second Challenge is that we're dealing with a community people who lived in the Blue Mountains who by and large were drug addicts now the fact that people are drug addicts and commit crimes doesn't make them unreliable but it means you got to pay extra attention to what can corroborate their evidence I was so fraud I don't remember much at all you use heroin because you don't want to remember things you that's why people use thin and related to that is whether that particular group of Associates is willing to actually assist or cooperate I don't I don't I don't care I don't I can't stand this going nowhere [ __ ] nowhere with this [ __ ] investigation you're a [ __ ] prosecutor mate you're really nailing my ass aren't you they the bosss that [ __ ] charge me or something will leave me alone did you ever no don't shout at me stop accusing me of [ __ ] I believe that there was a foul play involved right from the start Sharon what about you do you miss her immensely she's like a daughter so yeah I'm 20 years old I have no idea what happened I have no idea what even um they think happened it's even if I can get maybe a little bit of closure or something the role at the beginning of an inquiry is to look at all the persons who might be of interest and then look at the evidence available so as to determine whether some can be [Music] excluded when you can't assume that the allegations and the brief of true that they there to be tested that's the whole purpose of an inquest silence please all stand this corer cour is now sitting your Honor's role at the conclusion or suspension of this inquest is to hand down findings as to whether Belinda died and if she died the date Place Manner and cause of her death her death may have been violent and unnatural would you describe yourself as having had a close relationship with Belinda yes and can you describe that to the court please I spent a lot of time from her from the day she was born and then that relationship continued through the years right up until before her um Disappearance in '98 she was such a lovely little thing she was one of those kids that was always bright and happy she was always a really outgoing type of kid that would do anything to please you she was a real little sweetie yeah and especially her mother she was always wanting to do things to help you know Leslie even from a very young age making a Cups of Tea and helping out with things around the house she had a lovely person ity um very outgoing girl very likable girl she grew up without a father for a big part of her life Leslie my sister had mental health issues back then so that kind of been easy for blinda as well to have to deal with and by age 50 she was expecting my first grandson you are the father of Cody Peasley yes your relationship with Belinda did that last long after Cody was born it um was over before Cody was born when Belinda had Cody she lived with me in Lawson and at that time was when she met Andrew my my grandson Billy's father I was 21 when I met Belinda I thought she was 18 cuz that's what she told me uh turned out she wasn't I think she was 16 she might have been just before her 16th birthday which I had no idea cuz you meet someone that's got a kid and you know she told me she was 18 so I believed her you know we were deeply in love I thought it was going to be for life that kind of thing and I'm pretty sure she did too but as relationships go you things just didn't work out when I was a bit younger I used to imagine what she was like like what she was like back then I'm watching you might be like now but um I sort of stopped doing that cuz then pretty much every time I did it seemed to just loop around to me just getting sad just realizing that it's never never going to happen so that was I don't really do that much anymore now I wasn't around when Belinda was born I remember knowing like lat that Leslie was pregnant with Belinda but I was very violent in those days um I drank a great deal and she shut me out of her own life and disappeared I was living at Lema and got a phone call one afternoon until he died and it was actually quite aming is not the word she said he sitting down I said well yes she said good she said you're a grandfather I said what she said twice so that was that was quite a shock do you know why why you were contacted out of the blue by Belinda on that occasion she wanted to um reconnect after a a very long estrangement what was your attitude to towards that I was stunned and excited at the same [Music] time you were aware that Belinda received about 150,000 as an inheritance is that correct that's correct and do you know how that money was administered yes I believe she purchased the property at 17 Trail Avenue was basically once she moved into her own home that things went downhill because she started on the drugs mixing with the wrong crowd my stance on drugs is well known can't stand them and she was involved in that sort of circle and um any interference or any suggestion of getting out of it was met with hostility every single time now was TR Avenue in effect a shooting gallery it was pretty much a droing center and uh you know for for a lot of people she got associated with at the time she was quite sick of this a lot of people just dropping in and using her place as she referred to feels like my place as a public toilet there wasn't a lot of females back then who I really connected with but I just really connected with blinda and um and she was a lot younger than me um and she had a little baby Cody and so I was didn't really feel like I was her older sister what did she confide in you about she had this fear that she didn't know how to love someone properly so she was reaching out to me to try and teach her how to be a better mother and be a better person so you knew that she was a drug addict yes during the time you knew her is that right yes the whole time you knew her [Music] yes after we'd separated blinda had bought her house at Kumba we went up there for um I'm pretty sure it was Billy's birthday uh we were supposed to meet around 12:00 so we caught the train up there we were waiting for her till about 4:30 5:30 and then she came home she yeah she she was all aggressive not she looked sickly yeah she didn't want to talk she just rushed herself into the bathroom stayed in the bathroom for about 20 minutes or so and then came out of the bathroom all happy so you I can only assume she was doing drugs in there so we ended up getting in the taxi going to leave I had Cody begging to come home with me just wanted to leave and come with me so I was in tears I was a mess and Cody was a mess yeah so yeah ended up having a pretty sad [Music] day did you ever give money to Belinda Peasley uh for her to buy drugs yes and on how many occasions did you do that a dozen I suppose if not more and why did you do that when you didn't approve of her taking drugs maybe that that hit might may have made her feel better to say yeah get out of bed you thought it was better to give her this short-term fix [Music] yes so the very last time I saw blinda she was in quite a state she was um fearful for her life and she was sure that somebody was trying to to um kill her now I want to ask you about this conversation you had with Belinda mhm at gry stains when she when she said that she believed that Jeremy Douglas was going to kill her and that he had a weapon correct and did she identify what kind of weapon he had she said he had a gun is there any reason why you didn't tell the police or docs that information that Belinda had come to your house looking terrified stating that she believed Jeremy threatened to kill her and that he had a gun I don't know what the reason is maybe that I was under the assumption that she was going to take off and do what she said change her identity I want to ask you about a telephone call in July or August 1998 she rang you up and was very upset and mentioned something along the lines that she dug a hole for herself do you recall that uh yes she started by telling me she wanted me to know that she loves me um myself and my son she wouldn't tell me what was wrong she wouldn't tell me what was going on uh I asked her to come down and stay at my place she wouldn't but you wrote a name down why did what was the purpose of writing the name I said to her um well if something happens to you and we need to go to the police who do we you know we' got to tell him someone which was Jeremy Douglas and you say you wrote that name down yes do you remember her using the the words she dug a hole for herself and she was trying to get herself out at the time it made me think she'd already spoken to police cuz it didn't sound like something should [Music] say because of the custody case that year I was keeping a log of every Fone call and every conversation we had which unfortunately got destroyed in a flood but yeah I read it numerous times and I added in quotes like she dug a hole for herself and she was trying to get herself out why did you read the log entries many [Music] times well she ended up missing I call Mark [Music] W do you now recall an occasion when you received a phone call from Belinda late at night when she sounded hysterical crying and screaming yes I do very much she rang and uh said to me can you get up and help me Jeremy's smashing the house up he's going to kill me and Heidi can you come up get some mates and get on the bike and come up and I do recall her asking me to bring a baseball batter a gun and some mates to help her I said no I said I'm not getting involved in that crap ring the police if you got a problem and she very politely told me to to get stuffed and uh told me I was an [ __ ] and that was the last conversation I had with her Sol please all stand cor cour is now resumed so I call Heidi Wales Heidi Wales was important a because she knew Belinda well so the other significant feature about heidy Wows that evidence as she had links close links with five other Persons of Interest including her boyfriend Jeremy Douglas did Belinda ever tell you or did you ever see Jeremy destroying things in her home I can remember her not wanting Jeremy to be around and him disrespecting that wish and did she say why she did not want Jeremy to be around because he was a very disrespectful person and just didn't care what she said and what items were missing uh the TV I think there was microwave and a camera did anyone tell you who had was involved in that Breakin yes who told you uh Barry Sullivan he told us that Jeremy and Heidi had robbed Bell and they needed him to on it over to Cash Converters because they couldn't you knew about that didn't you I did yes I think it was mine and Jeremy's idea and why did you want to do that cuz we needed money what for to buy heroin after Barry telling her who did it she didn't want the repercussions from after naming those people and what did she think the repercussions would be who knows nobody knew with them there were people that turned up at the doorstep at 2 or 3:00 in the morning you know they just turn up any time didn't matter what time of night it [Music] was Belinda had asked me to care for Cody which was not unusual I quite often babysat for her sometimes she would say she would go out for just a night and I may have Cody for a week the night that she was last definitely seen on that evening you met up with her didn't you yes and you had a few drinks with her yes so how long were you drinking for um all day and during that day did Belinda take any drugs we took some Valium anything else no just Valium and what were you talking about she was blaming um Jeremy and Heidi for breaking into her house and stealing her TV so at some stage you had a a bit of an argument with her is that right yes what happened there um she kept on turning up the radio and um Katrina was yelling at me because I um I was living there to keep the noise down so I said to Belinda look we got to turn it down now and I went to turn it down and she went to spit on me so I punched her I said look I'm going to ring you a taxi and get you out of here and um we'll talk about it when we saber her up did you notice that she was injured yeah she had a bleeding nose were you upset yeah I was upset what were you upset about I just said it turned out like that right so when you got there was Belinda there at par at the Park Avenue house so once I did get there I say told her that there was a commotion and that she had left so did you stay at the house for long or did you immediately go to look for her no I immediately left right and and where did you go after you left yes I found her sitting on a garden bed sitting there crying and did you notice any injuries on it redness around one of her eyes and to the opposite cheek so what happened then got a cab from Kohl's to Trail Avenue I was working in my backyard and just finished cleaning up it was just on just on Sundown and there was a hell of a argument going on I was a few met away from where I'm standing now fence has uh been replaced since end it was a little bit shorter and I was looking in this direction at Belinda's Cottage across the road I get a lot of broken glass a lot of things getting thrown around the house I don't know whether J say she used her hands or she threw something at the kitchen window and smash that one I then asked her what she was doing and by this stage you know she was yelling it's my house and I can do what I want after that went to the bathroom I could hear the the Smashing of I think maybe mirror and bathroom screen while she was in there could you see any blood at that stage around her hands yes cuts and scratches I suppose from the glass it seemed to me not to be an argument so much but more of a a drug rage at that stage do you know if she was under the influence of drugs uh yes she had told me that she had two valium tablets and 750 mil Bim beam did you know whether the she was under the influence of heroin not to my knowledge could you hear the male voice yell at all yeah only to Cal her down she was calling me a prick telling me to [ __ ] off she hated me do you know why she became angry at you no I don't no he must said something to her cuz I heard her say I can do what I want it's my house she went into the bedroom packed me a bag and threw it out the front door and told me to go where did you go to Alan Cameron's house did you stay the night there yes from time to time did stay at your house no do you recall ever staying at your house notle on on any occasion no [Music] [Music] [Music] that is evening Belinda rang me and asked me could I bring Cody up and because it was late in the evening and I'm not sure of the time I'd already given Cody his tea and he was in his pajamas and because we had to go by public transport I said to Belinda I'll bring Cody up the following day and that was the last time I spoke to belind [Music] what did you do the following morning went to her house why did you do that to see cuz people came back to Rain's house telling me that Wonder lines bashed her up so I walked over there to see she was all right and I found her house all smashed up so what did you you do when you got there I think that maybe when I found her bag and where did you find this bag um down between the back of the chair squash like did you look inside the bag yes I did what was in the bag her wallet was in the bag there was a syringe in the wallet mm that had been used and how could you tell it was used because it had blood in it yes I never done anything with the wallet I just kept it more so I kept the syringe because I thought if they ever found her or anything there's a little bit of blood in there that was hers it might be a bit crazy but that's what I was thinking at the time did you ever give the wallet to the police I don't think so because every time I went to the police station to ask them or tell them that my friend was missing they would just laugh at me for a best friend not to report something as significant as that naturally raised [Music] suspicion the front door was open a few more windows had been smashed was it usual for the door to be open no so what did you do had to look around for Belinda where did you look bedrooms bathroom went downstairs and then out the backyard and then under the house did you see any of Belinda's items I think yeah there was a handbag in the bathroom and would you describe that as the handbag she what always carried around with her or I thought so yes you saw a key card a westpack key card yes you took those two cards is that right yes why did you take her westpack key card on I took it sa for safekeeping you weren't stealing them no no I as I said I was just getting them for saf keeping I was in the company of another officer and from memory there was glass in the front windows what did you do upon observing that damage to the the house called the cumber police I don't know what happened to her but it I was concerned for her safety when the police first came to her house there were no forensic tests under taken even though there was blood there and so the most important part of an investigation is the beginning part and if that's deficient then you're in trouble from the word guy Leslie and I went up to the house to see if you know we could get a bit of an idea of what happened and the house been trashed the shess had been smashed there was you know a bit of blood around the place it was a little bit confronting to deal with during the following week there were people coming and going from the house all males no females and they were taking stuff from the house this continued on for about a week and then there was nothing there was no one turn up and for the next 5 weeks you made a number of withdrawals from Belinda's westpack account yes and the bank record show that the total withdrawals were was $1,772 yes were all of those yours yes did you think at the time you should not be withdrawing that amount of money that amount of money from Belinda's account at the time I I knew I knew it was wrong yes he did have an explanation for that which was that Belinda owed him money he felt he had a right to do that and he didn't tell the police because when it was discovered that the police were involved he obviously was afraid they done something wrong did you go around to her house many times after she'd been gone yeah to try and find out where she was did you um report her disappearance to the police no when you're a drug addict you don't talk to police you get labeled as a dog and so on because I had that struggle at the beginning with going to the police station and constantly telling them my friend was missing and getting no reaction from them at all it's just another lower person in society to get rid of or not to have to hassle or deal with I suppose the Code of Silence in many criminal activity scenes would be fairly significant I I have no doubt that there's more information that is known about what happened to Belinda people haven't Shar it yet did you ever show the police your log book no I told them what was there and they didn't want to know what gave you that understanding cuz I was told they couldn't give me information because I wasn't the person who filed the missing person's report uh then later on this is once it had gone down to Ultimo they went and looked into it for 5 minutes came back and suggested to me that I stop looking cuz some people don't want to be found is it your opinion that Belinda is dead I'm not too sure to be honest I couldn't say definite yes or no do you think that if Belinda was still alive today she would have contacted you at some stage over the last 14 years yes I do why do you say that because I'm her auntie and I was close to her do you think that if blinda had been alive at any stage during the last 14 years she would have contacted you or Billy yeah unfortunately I'm certain she would have wanted to have seen her kids if not me unfortunately I think she's dead small communities allow for people to know a lot more perhaps about other people that might occur in a big city good police officer will know their community and will'll be able to uh look at the rumors and get through the rumors to what is reality what was being said about who is responsible well people thought it was people thought it was Jeremy what else is I heard just crap like nobody knows everybody's name W everybody's name got dropped it's just rumors and inuendo did you ever say that night to I'm going to [ __ ] kill Belinda or or smash her [ __ ] headd in I don't know I could have did you ever say on any other occasion I'm going to [ __ ] kill Belinda smash your [ __ ] hid in I don't know how many times I said that about different people I I um was always carrying a threat so did you ever speak to Jeremy Douglas about Belinda and where she might have gone Jeremy's theory was that um was riding a bike and she fell off the back and sometime after 1998 you began a relationship with Jeremy Douglas is that correct yeah that's correct and you were together for about 2 or 3 years yeah yeah and did you sometimes walk to the methodone Clinic yeah that's right when we passed a certain area said um that he felt that blind's body was in the bush saying here is here whenever a person goes missing particularly in an environment of use of elcd substances and the like there will be speculation speculation is just that uh is there evidence to support such a such an idea the events had occurred a long time ago and although they were memorable people's memories about it were fragmentary and so it was difficult to separate rumor from hea biggest problem is probably that U there's so much drug usage in the past that uh we'll never know whether or not they're telling the truth silence please do you solemnly and sincerely declare and affirm that the evidence you shall give will be the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth please say I do I do have a say Do you ever call an occasion when Heidi Wales visit you shortly after blind's disappearance yes basically what happened was Heidi came um asked if Bill was there she appeared at the time to have a bit of a bruised eye she was kind of acting a little erratic pacing the floor quite a lot she had told us that Heidi Jeremy and yes had gone to Belle's house they got Belinda in the car Belinda was in the back Heidi was in the front yes things started getting ugly in the car I'm not too sure what she may have meant by ugly they came to a stop sign Heidi jumped out of the car and ran bill and I were both a little shocked with what we heard I remember Heidi coming to gem glow uh the apartment above there and being upset yes I do remember that what else do you remember I just remember being upset sitting on the lounge in the lounge room how could you tell she was upset she was frantic frantic is the word I do remember Heidi going to the toilet um and we both looking at each other shaking our head saying this conversation never ever happened so hardy came back from the toilet and then what then pretty much it never got spoken about ever again I don't remember that that's not something you'd forget is it I've always wondered what happened I cared about Belle she was my friend um I've always wanted to know what happened so for me not to remember B told something like that is odd to me so you're quite sure are you that you never told that to Carla Priestley positive there are a number of people who are definitely afraid of coming to court and saying what they know that's been so since September 1998 to that extent it's it's made it one of the trickiest inquests I've ever done um in terms of sensitiv ity in terms of the fear that people have and actually telling the truth for some reason I don't know why you guys gave him my my statement cuz I thought it was I thought it was um going to be confidential I've got kids if you speak up against anyone you know whether it be allegations or or fact you know you get marked you get called a dog you get threatened and have you been threatened yes by whom what's what are the threats my pick was in I'm a dog don't go to jail you're [ __ ] dead you can leave the witness box for the moment thank you it's contempt of cers to threaten Witnesses it's a criminal offense to I know but but uh that's under the Crimes Act isn't it and that that would undoubtedly include this and undoubtedly do you swear by almighty God that the evidence you shall give will be the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth please say I do I do when I first got the brief of evidence I hadn't heard anything about this whole investigation and I was quite shocked at all the people that had written statements about me and I had the [ __ ] shits and I put out there the Israel P dogs everyone years and I said I hope the fire rips through the place and kills a lot of is issuing any threats to any witness in this inquest or any intimidation either directly or indirectly is a serious criminal offense where most people go to jail and I'd ask you honor to assure this witness and any other witness that comes that by coming here and giving evidence they will not be the subject of threats or and if they are there'll be punishment as a result Miss Presley if you become concerned about any matter would you please immediately let uh police officer know of your concerns and I can assure you that your concerns will be followed up thank you I'll go if you think that I'm terrifying Witnesses right I'll go home and you call me up when you want me okay cuz I haven't said a word to anyone all right except 12 months ago I wrote something on Facebook cuz I had the [ __ ] cuz everyone was accusing me of something I don't even know about if you think I'm terrorizing people I won't be at the court you call me up when you want me thank you Mr pres thank you did Jeremy ever bash Heidi Wales yes and how do you know that I have seen Heidi with my own two eyes black and blue and she has told me that it was Jeremy that had bashed her now why did you leave the Blue Mountains I was scared of Jeremy is that because he had assaulted you in the past yes that you took an AV out against him as a d yes I did has he ever threatened to um strangle you yes has he ever threatened to kill you yes when I was 7 months pregnant he grabbed me by the throat and held me up against the wall in the kitchen and attempted to gouge his fingers into my eyes did he ever threaten you with a weapon I brought a gun to my head one night did you go to the police about that particular incident yes I did and what happened nothing what do you mean nothing nothing I call Jeremy Douglas silence please please W almighty God that the evidence you shall give will be the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth see would you please State your full name Jeremy Ward Douglas I understand that you wish to exercise your right to object in accordance with Section 61 of the Corin act to answering any questions concerning that matter yes said Jeremy Douglas was regarded as a suspect in The Disappearance of blinda Peasley he had a reasonable basis to object on the grounds that any answer he gave could tend May incriminate him and in regard to the material available to me I'm satisfied that Mr Douglas's objection is reasonable the coroner has two options he could have either required Germany to give evidence under a certificate which meant that anything Germany said could not be used against him either directly or indirectly that is evidence could not have been gathered as a result of what Jeremy said uh I do not consider it appropriate to Grant him a certificate in these proceedings therefore I do not require him to answer any questions thank you very much thank you sir yes in my opinion the coroner's decision not to compel Jeremy Douglas to give evidence was the correct one because after the inquest finished that if there's new evidence against Jeremy Douglas which led to him being charged and then later prosecuted for murder or manslaughter then by compelling him to give evidence that would had the real potential to contaminate the criminal [Music] trial [Music] I have confidence in the car in it but it's a question of whether he's got enough evidence there to make a finding to be honest with you it needs one person to break if she breaks the whole case blows is wide open she's she's been the KE for years they haven't been able to move her Hardy [Music] wild solence pleas do this way byy God that the evidence you shall give will be the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth I do have a s as well you gave evidence on the last occasion that after 17 TR Revenue was broken into and her TV and other items were stolen you had a conversation with Belinda where you denied knowing anything about who broke into TR Avenue and who stole her property you remember giving that evidence I don't remember giving that evidence and I can't answer that question honestly what did Belinda actually say to you about the the the house being broken into and the TV being stoling what did she say to you um I choose not to answer that question I really bet you say you choose not to answer yeah I choose not to answer it I you cannot choose not to answer the questions unless of course you object to answering the question because an answer you give might tend to incriminate you you understand that no not really I don't understand anything cuz I just feel like I'm just going to get trouble for anything I well you're not going to get into trouble Miss Wales if you tell the truth you understand Mr Strickland what did Belinda Peasley say to you about traving you being broken into in a TV and other property being stolen I can't remember that she was upset cuz she just bought the television I did get the feeling she was scared or intimidated to reveal everything she knew but that was an impression whatever I say you just like twisted around and say all this stuff like it's just ridiculous like why do I I don't want to talk well there's a family of Belinda Peasley who'd like to know some answers yeah and so would I well then why don't you answer the questions because you turn it around into all this stuff that's not even real all I'm asking is you tell the truth that's what I'm trying to do well then do so I can't do it when you're constantly God damn well turning things around but you said this at this time and you said this on this time I am here trying to tell the truth and I don't care I don't want to talk anymore I've had enough I'm going to allow you to reflect on that attitude and hopefully with a bit more cooperation what happens outside the the courtroom is often much more important than what happens inside the courtroom people who fear they're going to get into trouble can try and massage the evidence coordinate the evidence in court yes M now I'll just take to the first statement the 20th of March 2013 is that your signature on the bottom of each page yes in this statement you recount the same story you told to the police on two occasions in November 2010 you say this and I'll read it out on this occasion when we were in the white car Jeremy was laughing and said he killed Belinda and buried her in a shallow grave in the megalong valley and at this time he used words like quote I killed her and she's buried in a shallow grave in meal Long Valley he just laughed when he said this I just want to show you some of the walkthrough video and he said to me oh did you hear about that the police found um B's body in a shallow grave in um meal Long Valley you never said in that walkthrough video which is on tape that Jeremy said I killed her did you no so why didn't you tell the police because I've already told the police several years ago and they didn't care I don't know I'm going to go and have a cigarette in a minute just like and I don't really care if you stop me or not well I just like you to listen to this tape please hello Jeremy yeah just remember these phones are being tapped all right yeah I know I know I was speaking to the coppers this morning I said he a [ __ ] around he run a witch on for Jeremy he's not even looking at other people and I said who who should we be looking at and I said and hiy I know something she know something isn't it the case Miss Wales that you know where Belinda's body is I've told you I don't know where Belinda is I don't know anything about it we didn't know whether she herself was concealing her own involvement in The Disappearance M Wales it's very Miss Wales it's a very ground no or that you got a rock and [ __ ] smashed her head in no that she tried to scratch your eyes out where got any proof of that who scratched my eyes out she tried to scratch your eyes out yeah I've still got them and did you ever send a text to witness a from where just listening from where have I ever had a phone did you ever no don't shout at stop accusing me your [ __ ] I'm asking you a question no what please you going to arrest me well what Mr Strickland is doing he's is giving you the opportunity to respond to what other Witnesses have said yeah now you might not agree with what they have said I don't a person I don't know anything about that stop just push and push and push there's one thing one rule which has to be applied in this court if I'm talking you keep quiet yes sir if you if you wish to continue pror serious going nowhere [ __ ] nowhere with this [ __ ] investigation [ __ ] prosecutor mate [ __ ] prosecutor Mr this is not this is an inquiry a sh this is not this is an inquiry Inquisition I'm going to continue to ask you questions and if you wish to answer them you say anything to him to the effect that you murdered Linda Peasley no why don't you just charge me with murder and we'll go to a [ __ ] trial and I'll have a solicitor and take it from there if you think I've done something wrong charge me with murder go on do it de the bosss to [ __ ] charge me with something will leave me alone cuz you've got nothing on me I've done nothing wrong 15 years and you got nothing on me nothing nothing cuz I didn't do anything cuz I'm telling the truth and you push and push and push and push and it's got you nowhere 15 years ago [ __ ] nothing did you kill Belinda Peasley no here we are at day: 15 I think and all the evidence is in it's good to have a bit of a break to get the transcript so that we know exactly what the evidence is and then start thinking it through we've got to the critical Witnesses and it's the assessment of those critical witnesses that is the coroner's lonely job we're here to provide answers to families of deceased persons in a homicide matter the coroner is the person who speaks for the Dead uh in a way uh so it's very very important Belinda need somebody to speak for [Music] her [Music] I make the following finding I find that blinda Shirley Peasley who was born on the 23rd of August 1979 died honor about the 26th of September 1998 in or about katumba in the state of New South Wales as to the cause and manner of her death the investigation available does not enabled me to make a finding there were Wheels within Wheels in this case and I don't know who was playing who off against who we had Witnesses friends of Belinda Peasley who we were sure didn't tell us everything they knew because they thought that would implicate them or because they feared the consequences for them of revealing what their boyfriends or what men in their life had done to her I I knew I knew it was wrong yes he was open about his areas such as withdrawing the money I'm satisfied that on the evidence available to me it is unlikely that was involved in Belinda's disappearance and subsequent death and went to turn it down and she went to spit on me so I punched her W Lo was a long-term user of elicit drugs she admitted that she had previously told un true stories to get attention Okay for these Reasons I'm satisfied it's not likely that Lawrence was involved am Belinda's disappearance and subsequent [Music] death much of the hearing at the inquest was directed towards exploring whether or not all or any of these three persons had some direct knowledge of Al involvement in Belinda's disappearance and or subsequent death the evidence available however was incon inclusive the evidence did however raise considerable suspicion as to the possibility of such knowledge Andor involvement I still have hope that um someone will accidentally tumble onto something that will give us a clue or someone may have a guilt trip and speak [Music] up [Music] there's been no resolution which is what we were desperately hoping for right from the start and there's no body so we um we can't have a funeral and a fixed place where myself um the boys and Sharon and the family everybody can go this year is the th anniversary of Belinda's disappearance no one's got the right to take anyone's life and how dare they you know just not only have you know has blinda lost her life but it's affected so many other people you know look at her children can't remember her I guess with her with her being missing when I was when I was younger I just didn't really know anything was wrong then as as you get older you start to notice that everyone around got two parents or they they at least know what's what's happening there it's just been really hard just not knowing it's all that I think back when I was about 8 years old I found an old um sleeping bag of hers with the phone number on there um for a while I thought I could just ring the number and she'd answer or something and [Music] [Music]
