I started playing when I was seven and I love just being able to go one-on-one with another person and just dominate [Music] well it's crazy too because John and Eric were these execs a pic that just you're you're apart from each other [Music] well I started playing football in high school I was a baseball and basketball player so my kind of my mindset was because of injuries him together I kind of wanted to push them away from football a little bit and really expose them to a lot of sports we played tennis we played golf they played soccer and baseball at hoobin so I really exposed them to a lot of sports early trying to keep them a little bit away from football but Nick was you know mix through temper tantrums and he was just a pain John and I just stood there looking at him you know looking down at him on the floor having a proper temper tantrum you know arms and legs flailing at seven years old and he was headache you don't let me play football under the dog like oh if you don't let me play football you know and John and I just was like what is in this kid's brain and he feels that strongly like I have to do this [Music] the first practice and I got him to suited up and I watched Jill walk to one field and Nick walked to the other with the pads on at that moment just them just seeing how they looked in pads I'm like I'm done I mean ever football players and and they never they never looked back the town we lived in their football program it was falling apart and it was really not a good program that's when I started driving around to all the surrounding townships to sort of see the programs that they had and you know if they're gonna play we wanted him in a good program [Music] it was different for us I mean we grew up in North Miami in a big house but going down there and playing with those kids I mean it opened my eyes to a little bit of a new world and it just gave me just like a broader perspective coach Greg buffoon he was my defensive coach back then when I was a little kid I still have my phone he'll be at my Draft just really influential person I have a son that played on that team with Nick and you can tell those guys today they are brothers and they all come from different backgrounds and different socioeconomic statuses but I've been coaching almost 20 years man into the things that is the very best team that I've ever coached nick is 8 years old walking out there and he's probably playing with the majority they're probably at least 10 years old because it's by weight you know so he was so big and he was so much younger than his teammates he was the baby but he was bigger than that I mean he was built like a he wasn't built like a Mack truck at 7 years old I was teased and mother kind of our keep a t-shirt on around our body was just you know he was a picky [Music] way across the field I see you know this little eight-year-old walk up to one of his coaches who was a really big guy and like tug on his shirt and I see this guy look down at him and Nick says something and the guy shrugs and points and Nick goes walking away I find out later that they had put Nick with the offense and he worked up to this guy said I don't want to play offense I want to play defense I will never forget that as long as I live it gently in my mind just about the youngest kid on the team which he was outpacing everybody there trying to make sure you know give us up with the tapes and then when you see the last name kind of resonates with because his dad played for the Dolphins are real for me with his dad and his uncle you know that that's when we realized listen we may be on the stuff that first year Nick's team won the Super Bowl and Nick was the you know MVP was on the all-star team [Music] not only were they playing at a park that was very competitive and had a lot of really good athletes but it also got them to see some different cultural things they made some bonds and friendships with those teammates that will last forever so it was pretty cool I take those years and just they've helped me through my whole life just accept all people and it's just it's been really good football's down so much for me you
