artist at the recommendation of her clients she posted her first makeup tutorial to YouTube in 2011 viewers loved her sense of humor and relatability and came back for more within less than 2 years Jacqueline Rose to online stardom and documented all of it suddenly Brands were flying her all over the country thousands of people were standing for hours in line to meet her she appeared on magazine covers and she and her husband moved into a mansion at the height of her Fame she gained over 5 million subscribers but major problems began to arise when she launched her own brand Jaclyn cosmetics and found a questionable love interest who was her husband's friend yeah him it didn't take long for people to realize Iz the woman they watched on screen was not who she presented herself to be while she became a millionaire herself she had cost small businesses millions of dollars and even Force some to close when what jacine did behind the scenes came to light the backlash was Swift but instead of making amends she turned on her followers with lies and contempt and her career has never been the same s this is the cautionary tale of Jaclyn Hill's YouTube Fame and Scandal before we begin a isers was born in Illinois on July 20th 1990 she was the youngest of three children with one brother and a sister her Father Jim owned a 700 acre commercial farm that raised Hogs corn and soybeans the farm had been in Jim's Family for four generations and he was one of the biggest hog producers in Illinois producing 2 to 3,000 Hogs a year one winter morning in 1997 when Jacqueline was 6 years old her father was driving over a bridge when a speeding semi in the opposite lane slid on Ice crossed the median and struck his car breaking both of Jim's legs after a four-year-long lawsuit against the trucking company Jim was awarded over $4.1 million in court he claimed he had been a farmer for 20 years and the accident destroyed his career it was after the accident he turned to Christian Ministry claiming an Evangelical Epiphany directed him to become a pastor he named his new Venture iser's International Harvest Ministries Inc once he became a millionaire Pastor Jim packed up the family moved them to Tampa Palms Florida and into a house he purchased sight unseen but Jim had dreams of traveling the globe spreading Christianity for the next few years the family including Jaclyn's brother and his wife traveled around the world on missions trips in between trips they would come back to their home base in Florida in a 2002 interview with the Tampa Times Jim stated quote America is saturated with preachers I've made it my goal to go where other preachers have never been some of the places we go aren't even on the map the safest place in the world to be is right where God tells you to be end quote Robin Jim's wife LED women's conferences on the international trips and saide we love doing this with the kids I think they have seen what it's done for us and they want to be a part of it end quote but these trips weren't just a man his family and a Bible the isers were lugging around cameras lights production and Stage equipment and batteries and generators to power it all Jim wanted his hours long sermons documented and many pictures of their various trips the article noted each trip cost around $30,000 took months of planning to involve ground crws and other details and stated the family relied on donations from friends and businesses and dug into their own pockets as well in one video from November 2013 Jacqueline mentioned flying to Africa nine times during her childhood during all this jacine was the only child still in school so Robin homeschooled her throughout middle and high school Robin officially graduated jacine when she was 16 years old while still a teenager and no longer flying around the world spreading Christianity anymore Jaclyn worked at a fast food restaurant before studying photography at College even from her early religious days it was clear that jacn wasn't going to follow in her Father's Footsteps she loved makeup since she was a little girl where she would steal her mom's lipsticks and hide them under her bed so when she saw a hiring sign for her local MAC Cosmetics counter she jumped at the opportunity working at the Mac counter was where Jaclyn honed her makeup technique and her bubbly personality made her an instant hit with clients before long she was taking on more freelance clients in the fashion and entertainment Industries eventually she dropped out of college after her freshman year claiming she wanted to spend more time building her freelance makeup career while that was blooming so too was romance while already in a relationship jacine met a member of her boyfriend's band his name was Andrew Jonathan Hill he went by John she was instantly taken by The Talented drummer who worked as a server in a local restaurant Jaclyn dumped her boyfriend soon after and she and John became an item before meeting jacine when he was only 17 years old John was at a bonfire where a high school friend with a broken leg gave him some of his description pills to try in a 2019 interview with billboard John said quote I remember when it hit me and I was like oh my God this is the best feeling I've ever had it's like all my insecurities of what people thought of me just went away I felt Untouchable end quote JN would struggle with addiction but his passion for life music and Jacqueline led to him proposing and in 2009 when Jacqueline was 19 years old John 21 they were married while their romance was just getting started another was ending Jim and Robin isers divorced only 3 years after Jaclyn's wedding it was during this period Jaclyn became estranged from her father while the couple was young and in love there were hardships too jacine has stated in several of her videos that she and JN didn't have much money except for the cash they had been gifted at their wedding and that they relied on food stamps to put meals on the table at least that's the story jacqulyn would tell her audience for years to come A Tale of humble beginnings and the promise that if you work hard enough you too could have a luxurious life filled with Glamour and designer Brands that's because everything would change for Jacqueline when she made the decision to take her makeup skills virtual 6 years after YouTube first launched jacine started her very own YouTube channel in 2011 her first video was a close-up shot that showed viewers how to create a Kim Kardashian inspired look okay so again very wearable holiday look inspired by Kim Kardashian she's going to be on the cover of Glamour and it's like a New Year's Eve festive fun girly like sleepover inspired and I saw the promo shots for it and I was like oh my gosh yes don't think that like I'm trying to say I look like her or anything I know I get it I'm not cute if you're not so annoyed that you haven't turned off this video already keep watching what I do is I take my brush and I kind of go under this area and then I swoop up and out and that will line up with the line of your eye from the corner of your eye to your eyebrow so I just grab it like so and there's the start of it okay and that's how your eyeliner should look the quality of the video itself was typical of the early YouTube era it lacked the highdef clarity sophisticated lighting and Polished editing that many have come to expect from content creators today her simple camera setup added to the charm of the moment many early followers felt there was a genuine almost tangible feeling they were sitting across from jacqulyn having a casual makeup Obsession together but Jacqueline nor her early viewers could have ever imagined how quickly YouTube would change her life the girl nextd door personality and downto Earth relatability Drew viewers in from that very first upload rather than presenting makeup products like a sales pitch jacine shared her real life experiences successes and even missteps in the beauty realm I've been moving into my new apartment and decorating so it's been a little chaotic but I'm finally in and I feel like this is like growing out of the back of my head as I'm speaking to you but whatever anyways um so yeah I've gotten a few messages here on YouTube asking me to do a look with hot pink lips I know I did like the Kardashian look a while back but I guess you guys wanted more for spring and summer time so this is what I did it's um just a neutral look with pink lips and I did a really bold brow because bold brows are really in right now and I'm like obs obsessed and it's hard not to take it too far easy hard hard oh God ow anyways she laughed at her own bloopers shared anecdotes from her personal life and connected with her audience on a deeply authentic level which when combined with her undeniable makeup skills made her stand out in what would quickly become a sea of beauty influencers just one year after that video she started to draw the attention of mainstream Beauty Brands and by 2013 with less than half a million subscribers she was given her first opportunity to do a big-time business collaboration Sigma Beauty had been keeping a close eye on Jaclyn's growing popularity since starting her YouTube channel Jaclyn repeatedly compared Sigma beauty makeup brushes to the more expensive Mac options she was familiar with based on Jaclyn's word alone her fans took that as a sign that Sigma brushes were a worthy investment and rush to buy them Sigma was impressed with Jaclyn's selling power and reached out with an offer they wanted to collaborate on a Jaclyn Hill favorites brush set but not only that Sigma announced they would be hosting a meet and greet with jacine herself for her viewers the brand flew jacine from Florida to Minnesota the event was scheduled to take place at the Mall of America the largest mall in the United States on the plane Jaclyn read a letter the company had sent her and when she arrived at the hotel they put her up in she found her room filled with notes of appreciation swag and chocolate covered strawberries Sigma predicted around 100 or so fans might show up to meet Jacqueline but what they got was a makeup frenzy fans drove from across the country for the opportunity to spend a moment with their favorite YouTuber the line stretched from the sigma store almost all the way through the entire Mall security guards estimated more than 1,000 people showed up for the event fans described meeting jacine as everything they hoped for and said that she was exactly like the bubbly giggly Persona they had come to know through their screens the favorites brush set collection with Sigma was also a success and sold out twice netting Jacqueline almost $200,000 her favorites brush set was now a sigma bestseller it also triggered a series of bigname Partnerships which took Jack from an amateur YouTuber of Just 2 years to a certified Beauty Guru she no longer needed to take on makeup clients YouTube was her main gig it was a strong start for a young woman who had been living on food stamps just 18 months earlier by May of 2014 Jacqueline hit 1 million subscribers hey guys so we reached 1 million subscribers okay seriously though when I say we I mean that because this does not feel like I've done it on my own I don't feel like I reached a million I honest to God just feel so thankful that the word thankful does not even mean anything because it's like there needs to be another word invented to describe the way I'm feeling at this moment never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that anything like this would happen to me just me like I was nobody I mean like I'm not trying to put myself down but like let's get real like I just I was a makeup artist at MAC cosmetics and I loved doing makeup and I started doing YouTube videos two years ago in a very dark time of my life on a camera that claimed to be HD that was $45 and two years later 1 million people have subscribed to my channel and I'm just I'm blown away and I know like so many people say this and you're just like yeah but honestly like dreams do come true I I'm not Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera but this was my dream to be a makeup artist that can inspire people and encourage people and teach them makeup Artistry and make them feel beautiful inside and out because makeup is just like a universal language and every time a girl even is like oh yeah I don't really like makeup when they put it on they feel this inner confidence and they just they feel empowered and they just feel like yes I can take on the world and I just I love the power behind makeup and that's why I started this Channel and I never in my wildest dreams thought that it would come to this and it is all because of you guys and your love and your support and I am so so thankful like I'm not going to cry again by 2015 Jaclyn joined forces with Australian Beauty brand Becca Cosmetics to release a makeup collection the highlighting Trend was taking off in a big way and Jacqueline had been teaching viewers how to highlight their face best the Standalone highlighter would be named champagne pop and future reviews would praise it as a universally flattering shade on May 26th of 2015 Jaclyn released a video with JN titled husband does my makeup her subscribers loved it and Lov John in fact some of jacquin's highest viewed videos feature John hey guys so today we are finally going to be doing the husband does husband tag husband tag so today we are going to be doing the husband does my makeup CH I was going to say okay just I'm not even going to say it go so today we are here you put makeup brushes in his hands and this is what he does with them I'm fancy you already know I'm in lane from Toyo I'm so fancy hey guys so today we are going to be doing the he husband does my makeup tag yes nailed it nailed it this is actually John's first time ever being on camera with me other than maybe just like popping in real quick just like to give me a kiss goodbye as he's leaving but his first official video here on YouTube so show him some love be nice I he is going to actually try I'm going to try to be I'm going to try to do the best job CU I told him I was like don't try don't try to be stupid I'm I'm going to try to do really good make Mama Proud but there's I'm just going to say there's a good chance that it's going to look like a clown meanwhile the champagne pop highlighter became an instant bestseller and sold 25,000 units in only 20 minutes it broke Beauty records by becoming the number one highlighter in the world as a result of the collaboration Becca Cosmetics amassed more than 2 million Instagram followers 2 years later the brand was acquired by Estee Lauder for an estimated $200 million the collaboration was one of the earliest instances which solidifi if influencer marketing as a powerful and legitimate Force within the beauty industry and it would be one of Jaclyn's most successful collabs of all time before the age of influencer collaborations traditional marketing methods dominated The Beauty World brands would spend lavishly on Celebrity endorsements print advertisements and TV commercials but with the rise of social media platforms like YouTube and Instagram a new breed of celebrity emerged Jaclyn Hill was among the Pioneers in this new space and her collaboration with Becca Cosmetics became a pivotal moment in the beauty industry solidifying influencer marketing as a powerful and legitimate Force the success of champagne pop didn't just highlight a great product although its flattering shade and quality formula played a significant role the true magic was in the perception of authentic and organic promotion by Jaclyn herself her love for the product combined with the trust she cultivated with her audience over the years created a persuasive sales pitch when Jacqueline spoke her subscribers listened and while they were buying makeup brands rushed to get their hands on Jacqueline the same year as the Becca collab jacqulyn became an affiliate for a beauty company called morphe in fact she was the company's first affiliate jacine had promoted a few of their eyeshadows to her audience praising them for being inexpensive but high quality morphe reached out to her and offered a 72-hour 50% off code for her subscribers and a partnership was born this should have been the start of a beautiful and triumphant phase in Jaclyn's career where her influence and brand Partnerships would merge to create iconic products and bolster her reputation even further instead it appeared to be the start of controversy controversy that has plagued Jaclyn Hill ever since [Music] yeah I just got back from my meet and greet and I'm going to warn you that I might cry um I just really feel like the luckiest girl in the entire world because of you guys I swear I promise you right here and now that I will never sell out I promise you that I will never lie to you I promise you that I will never put money above my relationship with my subscribers I promise you that I will stay true to myself and I will stay true to you I promise you that I will only talk about things I genuinely love I promise you you guys know how much I love you and you guys mean the world to me I have never felt better in my whole life and that is because of you no money no collaboration no highlight can ever make me feel the way I feel right now and that is all because of my subscribers you guys are seriously the most beautiful people inside and out that I've ever known in my life and I am from my research the first time morphe seemed to appear in one of Jaclyn's videos was in 2014 in a video titled 9s grunge makeup tutorial subscribers noticed not long after Jaclyn began collaborating with morphe she stopped mentioning Sigma Beauty nearly altogether although her affiliate code was still listed in the description box beneath her videos fans didn't voice any concern because they figured Jacqueline just really loved morphe products even more and no matter because she was still sharing about other brands she loved like Makeup Geek Makeup Geek was a company founded by a high school music teacher named Marina stelle Marina had a love for all things makeup and originally launched the Makeup Geek YouTube channel where she taught Cosmetics application and then launched her own line of Cosmetics Makeup Geek was known for its highquality pigments at affordable prices in July of 2014 jacqulyn uploaded a video titled top Makeup Geek eyeshadows where she stated Makeup Geek eyeshadows were her favorite Shadows of all time even above Mac and jacine continued to promote Makeup Geek in many of her videos including one from 2015 titled Makeup Geek foiled eyeshadow review but she gave a disclaimer in this one so first thing I have to say before giving any review whatsoever this video is not sponsored Marlene did not ask me to make this video and I'm not being paid to make this video I just want to get that out of the way so that everyone knows that I am in no way talking good about these Shadows for any other reason other than I want to which has been the way it's been since day one and will continue to roll that way on my channel moving on in several of her videos Jacqueline even teased viewers that an eyeshadow palette with Makeup Geek was in the works and her Subs couldn't wait but by September of 2015 jacine uploaded a video answering questions submitted by her Subs one of these questions was about when she would be releasing an eyeshadow palette with Makeup Geek she stuttered for a moment and then said how do I put this hold on and then went on to tell viewers The Makeup Geek collab was supposed to launch that fall but then there was an issue with inventory and shipping and she wasn't going to get into it then she went on to say her palette with Makeup Geek got switched around because the brand was collabing with another influencer and her palette would be released in the beginning of 2016 hi jacine when will your collab with Makeup Geek come out it's actually a really good question so since I have completely dropped the announcement that I am collabing with Makeup Geek um how do I put this without like putting anyone hold on okay so basically my collaboration with Makeup Geek was supposed to launch this fall but then there was an issue with like inventory and shipping and all that jazz I'm not going to get into long story short I have another collaboration that I'm working on that is supposed to launch in December and so because I have that coming in December me and Makeup Geek we decided to take my palette and put it in the beginning of next year so now Makeup Geek is getting pushed back because Makeup Geek is also collaborating with somebody else and so they we're kind of switching things around like they're taking the place of me we're switching and then I have something else coming out in December and then my palette's coming out next year I know it's very confusing it's a lot um but yes the Makeup Geek palette will be launching next year it is absolutely beautiful I've given you guys a few swatches on Snapchat before a lot of bronzes taes oranges just very me um yeah so that is coming out next year but I have other things coming out before then on December 15th of 2015 Jacqueline released a video sharing a detailed list of her favorite morphe brushes which she was quote obsessed with the video received millions of views and thousands of comments and just like her previous collaboration minutes after launching the set was sold out that same year Jacqueline posted a photo with John the caption read quote everything in our lives have changed in the past 5 years except for my love for you there is no one else in the world that could make me want to kill you than kiss you in the same 60 seconds I've never had so much fun proving people wrong # hold tight end quote in 2016 Jacqueline and Becca Cosmetics launched a followup to her record-breaking champagne pop collab this time a new highlighter called prco pop would be released as part of a collection that included a face and eyeshadow palette and the original champagne pop highlighter it was called Jaclyn Hills champagne glow collection as is the norm in the beauty space Jacqueline posted a video to build hype for the collab and detailed her role in creating the products designing the packaging and promising that she was putting her name to a product her followers would love before its release in May the brand flew Jaclyn her husband mom sister and a few best friends to New York City for the champagne pop celebration jacine brought along a cameraman to Vlog the entire journey to later share with her subscribers as she and those closest to her celebrated her Newfound success with drinks and dancing late into the night Jaclyn was surprised with a cake for hitting 3 million subscribers oh my God that is so crazy oh my God you ready I'm ready ready let's go oh my God thank you so much for joining us tonight my name is Bob Baker I am the CEO of Becca cosmetics you know we love Jacqueline at Becca because I think what Jacqueline embodies is something all of us appreciate and why all of you are here tonight while all of her followers are so engaged is that there's a certain authenticity there's a certain realness so grab your glass let's say it's [Music] [Applause] [Music] host to you Che I promis myself I wasn't going to cry I wck I told myself I'm going to why are you leaving me I feel like honestly I know that this sounds so extremely cheesy and I don't care um champagne pop has always represented more than a highlighter or a makeup product to me it truly is I said this when I was at Sephora speaking I say this on YouTube on Snapchat when you look at it I just want everyone to know that dreams come true I don't care how cheesy it sounds I little girl I would watch Britney Spears on stage say dreams come true dreams come true and I would think like oh my God please Lord let that be the truth cuz one day I want to be doing something like that one day I want to be in front of people one day I want to inspire people I want to make people feel how Britney makes me feel and you know John and I have been through so so much struggle one day I hope to write a book cuz I don't have the confidence to reveal all the secrets quite yet but let me just say that the fact that I had a company like Becca with such great people behind it so much moral so much heart come to me and give me a chance like little old me who couldn't pay bills and used to sit in the dark and light candles with this guy and the fact that I can actually see my face in a in a place that I shopped at for years the place I used to go to my lunch break and couldn't afford seora used to give me samples cuz they knew I couldn't afford things there and the fact that I see my face there honestly like even if someone can't afford it even if you don't own it I just hope you know that from the bottom of my heart champagne pop really stands for the fact that dreams do come true that's what it is all about at the end of the day it's more than just makeup that's my mom and I slogan it is more than just makeup and I just hope that you think of that every time you open up champagne pop and I'm so damn grateful that Becca believes in me enough to just expand the champagne pop family they've given me another chance even after me say no to them a million times on everything I know I can't sometimes I'm not the easiest person to work with I'm definitely I know what I want and I'm not going to but I so thankful for this this expansion on the collaboration so I just want to say thank you so much to anyone who got on a plane and came here I know Brett man he came all the way from Hawaii I don't know where you are I can't wait to meet you so we are really excited that you have 3 million followers and we just wanted to celebrate that a little bit so these Hunky hunky gentlemen some of whom you know are going to come in here and help us celebrate that oh my God by now it was clear Jacqueline was financially doing much better than her days as a makeup artist who booked clients and filmed videos in her bedroom or in front of her fridge in 2016 the same year the champagne glow collection was set to be released jacqulyn posted now deleted photos of a new mercades G wagon she purchased the caption read quote 3 years ago we drove a broken down Chevy that didn't have a seat I'm so proud to share this journey with him dreams do come true when the world tells you to stop or they roll their eyes at your dreams keep pushing if your family and friends don't believe in you prove them wrong I believe in you and quote initially the champagne glow collection appeared to be as popular as the Standalone signature highlighter had been at least until buyers began to report problems with the quality of the eyeshadows they were patchy lacked pigment and were difficult to apply all deal breakers when it comes to eyeshadow ultimately Becca was forced to recall the eyeshadow palettes and they were never re-released this appears to be the first instance where a product jacqulyn put her name to had significant quality issues reported by buyers it was also one of the first instances where Jacqueline claimed to have been involved in every aspect of creating the product until the issues came to light then she would post a video downplaying her role as someone who just suggested colors or packaging but had no say in quality she would describe how let down she was by the brand and promised her viewers they could still trust her she wouldn't let them down again the Fallout from the failed colle lab resulted in a very public parting of ways between Jacqueline and Becca most of which played out on Twitter but the drama between them was far from over but more on that later despite the issues with the Becca launch Jacqueline had a number of other collabs in the pipeline towards the end of 2016 she released a video with John titled back to school lookbook in which she showcased three different backto School looks as she and Jon walked through the halls of a high school romantically looking into each other's eyes it seemed as if the world was Jaclyn's oyster she was looked up to and admired by people of all ages and had the loving support of her husband and family she was uploading consistently with beautiful themed makeup looks and educating people around the world about cosmetics and how to feel better about their appearance 2017 would see Jacqueline at Peak success in January of that year she posted a teaser photo with the caption I have worked hand inand with at Linda morphy perfecting my dream palette for my loving subscribers Linda gave me complete control and I was so picky with the pigmentation application and blendability our goal was to create something high quality with an affordable price after 2 years we feel we mastered it coming soon end quote the palette contained 35 Shades and after months of teasers and marketing the palette launched and sold out within minutes jacn posted that she was so lucky to be able to create makeup with one of her best friends Linda Towell Jacqueline was now in a position to command audiences with mainstream celebrities and not simply YouTube beauty gurus enter Kim Kardashian the subject of her very first video If ever a beauty Guru needed a way to certify they had made it a collaboration with Kim Kardashian was surely it in July of 2017 jacine posted a video alongside the reality TV star and Beauty Mogul herself this wasn't just another makeup to tutorial it was a meeting of two powerhouses in the beauty industry the video's impact went further than a simple makeup tutorial it secured Jaclyn's place as a celebrity not simply a beauty YouTuber at the time of this recording that video remains her second most watched upload ever two weeks later and holding a sold sign in the thumbnail Jacqueline posted a video titled empty house tour in which she took viewers on a detailed tour of her and John's new home this is our dining room which is one of the rooms that we are the most excited about I know see and then over here this is the breakfast area that's where our like table where we eat our kitchen table is going to go every single day that we sit down and eat like our dining room table we'll only use you know like on special occasions and then this right here is our kitchen which as of now as you can see it's torn up so my backsplash is actually like a Chevron that has like mother of pearl and like a a mirror in it it's so cool and then I'm doing just White marble so I cannot wait for that I had so much fun with all the details in this house I also have shimmerstone on the ceiling in here you can see a little bit more on that shot how it looks in person like it just has like this crazy shimmery texture I lost my mind when I saw this wallpaper it's literally okay focus for me camera it's literally like champag pop champagne pop but I love these floors so much I was able to pick out these floors once we were under contract and I think they are so freaking cool like all the different shades of grayes and whites and ivories this is his drum room which nope no not allowed sorry everything in here is soundproof soundproof the walls have been soundproof for John the floors have been too yeah the floors are soundproofed as well and the walls are dark gray and then the trim and the doors are black and then the ceiling they're actually putting like this weird super cool like textured orange wallpaper on the ceiling cuz John's favorite colors are orange and black then for our master bedroom you guys when I walked in here the first time I lost my mind it is so big this is a literally hands down bigger than our old apartment oh my God this is double the size is this not crazy how big this is and there's an actual sitting area I love her I just love how like funky and different it is and then they put it molding because we're going to hang curtains back there and then there's a bar so our bathroom is still under control construction right now because I was making a few changes cuz there were some things in here that I did not like um but I didn't have a say in them so I change them out we go to the bathroom it greets us when we walk in that is so pouy so now right off of our bathroom this is hands down I know I st about everything but this is the most exciting part for me because this is my closet you guys oh my God wait for it so every single like shelf in this closet does have a Light Panel like light strip across it to make everything light up because I wanted to be able to come in here and have everything illuminated so you can see everything and honestly you guys it's not necessary but I wanted it so I got it so this is our pool and then over there we have a hot tub I know going to take us I'm getting used to too bubs I love you guys so much thank you for watching the video and I'll see you soon bye but the more successful she became the more the gloss of her girl next door Persona seemed to fade whereas she would regularly make statements in videos or comments that she didn't like to brag her social media posts said something else entirely as they became more about her collection of designer Goods than the reputable beauty tips humor and candid life moments that had originally drawn people to her simple makeup tutorials and chats were often replaced by Showcases of her lavish lifestyle complete with luxury cars high-end fashion and opulent vacations her closet tour is one of her most watched videos in which she showcases her floor toeing display of designer purses shoes jewelry and clothes but behind the scroll of social media with its glamorous highlight reel and never-ending notifications Marina stelle and Makeup Geek were struggling Marina stated in an interview with the podcast that from the time a makeup collab agreement starts until the product is launched to Consumers it can take at least one year due to research and development AKA R&D ordering samples of the product you want to create signing off on the R&D samples then 2 to 3 months of production and then more time spent on packaging the collab was to be a nine wall eyeshadow palette and jacqulyn had already picked the shades and named some one was named Georgie and another Frankie after after her and John's dogs they agreed that Jacqueline would be paid over half a million dollars for this collab and Makeup Geek was projected to earn over 4 million from it but Marina claimed every time she emailed jacine about a launch date jacqulyn kept pushing it back saying it was just a timing issue due to collabs she had going with other brands at the time many Brands and sponsors will not allow a Creator to work with a competing brand for a set amount of time sometimes that can be up to 90 days sometimes it can be a year or more Marina said because Jaclyn was so busy Makeup Geek decided to go ahead and order the eyeshadows that way when Jaclyn schedule had an opening they wouldn't have to wait and could launch as soon as possible once some of the shades arrived at Makeup Geek HQ Marena snapped a photo sent it to Jaclyn and claimed Jaclyn was excited to see them by this point a million dollars in stock for Jaclyn's palletes had been produced with the packaging also arriving and ready for compiling but after the product sat in the warehouse for8 or 9 months Marina claimed Jacqueline began to stall and several emails went unanswered with the continued delays Marina again contacted Jacqueline to tell her the eyeshadows were reaching the end of their shelf life and would be unsafe for consumers if they didn't get this launched soon finally jacine told Marina via email that she had too much on her plate and the collab wasn't going to work out in the United States the most litigious country in the world this was would normally result in the brand suing the influencer for failing to follow through on their contractual obligations except Marina never had a contract with Jacqueline she claimed she thought not having a contract would be okay in this instance because Jacqueline was a good friend they had agreed upon the pallet details and she didn't want to pressure her that verbal but non-legal agreement came back to Haun Marina Makeup Geek was now left with 900,000 eyeshadow colors and 100,000 units sitting in the warehouse the brand decided to sell some of those Shades as single eyeshadows but most had to be trashed due to their expiration date although the collaboration was in tatters it appeared as though Marina and Jaclyn's friendship was salvageable in the years after Marina remained quiet about the million-dollar disaster and continued to support and celebrate jacine when Jaclyn told her she was looking to launch her own brand Marina offered her firsthand insights into the makeup production industry and even took her on a tour of the lab she recommended as part of this process Marina also warned Jaclyn about Labs she should steer clear of due to substandard production methods and poor quality control which had burned Makeup Geek in the past in one such instance Marina found white fuzzy hairs fingerprints and shards of plastic in a full production run of concealers she had ordered for her brand when these issues were identified during quality control testing Marina canceled the release completely two months after posting the video of her and John's new home a second release of the Jaclyn Hill and morphe eyeshadow palette sold out again in September becoming one of the most coveted beauty products of the Year by this point it was clear everything Jaclyn touched turned to gold jacine was living her dream in 2017 and in October she uploaded a collab video with Powerhouse makeup artist Nikki tutorials only in hindsight do we know 2017 was the highlight of Jaclyn's career little did she realize that 2018 would Mark the start of an unexpected downfall but 2017 was glorious for jacine the Christmas before she bought JN two cardier bracelets and one cardier ring totaling over $54,000 she was also awarded the makeup tutorialist Award of the Year by the American influencer Awards 2017 makeup tutorialist of the year winner is jacqulyn Hill I am obsessed with her dress thank you so much it's a pleasure to meet you oh my god thank you so much okay you guys let me just I was really not expecting this one oh my God this is so weird okay so I was featured in a lures Beauty Box posed for multiple photo shoots did a collab with Laura Lee and Manny mua and uploaded a video titled drunk get ready with Me featuring my BFF Jackie was Jacqueline's longtime best friend and was featured regularly on her social media Jackie although not an influencer but just a good friend of someone who is now famous was a big hit with Jaclyn's audience she was funny witty kind and full of life JN was also featured in the video at this point he had been sober for several years and some were critical of jacn drinking around him as often as she did JN even reposted a meme someone had made about him being the only sober one there on his Instagram that fall Jaclyn hosted one of her extravagant Halloween parties and dressed as a clown in November she uploaded a now deleted video of her and John titled Q&A with my husband it received over a million views in one day she then rounded out the holidays with her annual 12 Days of Christmas giveaway on Instagram Jacqueline was known for her holiday giveaways and she always thanked her subscribers profusely for their support each daily giveaway featured a multitude of products and included high-end luxury Brands her followers love loved this something else also happened in 2017 a guy named Jordan Tori began working for John and they soon became friends Jordan was a freelance videographer Contracting out to different companies mainly filming and editing commercials and social media content he began working for JN filming his music Jordan also likes to rap and had been an aspiring rapper since he was young [Music] [Music] tell me why tell me why they don't want to see my tell me [Music] why also known on Instagram as farum Grind Time he attempts to rap about women money and private flights Jordan likes to wear a grill and in his lyrics he refers to himself as Lil cook but his rap music and battle raps didn't pay the bills so he continued building his videography portfolio doing work for not only John but also Jacqueline and morphe the first mention of Jordan Tori on John Hill's Instagram was March 8th of 2017 when he jokingly films and raps about John's Gucci shoes [ __ ] Gucci tops hey hey whoa look at this boy Whoa whoa oh man JN shouted Jordan out a few more times on Instagram complimenting his friend's work JN and jacine ended 2017 with a sexy couple's photo shoot in one photo they flipped off the camera and said it was for everyone who said they wouldn't make it but all the success in the world and a couple's photo shoot couldn't save what came next on January 15th of 2018 JN uploaded a blooper Jordan had filmed of him JN records Jaclyn's reaction to seeing it and Jordan can be seen sitting next to them this is the last post John would tag Jordan in what the [ __ ] no idea what happened smack yourself in the face you've been playing drums for years I have no idea I'm a dumbass I'm losing in 2018 2018 is not not year I'm looking ugly this year oh thank you bro hilarious just straight Agony I make a while everything in that video seems laidback in fun it was not JN had relapsed and at the urging of his father he entered rehab to fight for his life in an interview with billboard Jon said he successfully left rehab excited to be clean and sober and to give jacine his full attention and sto being selfish but he came home to find out it wasn't home anymore jacn had had moved all of his things out on May 16th of 2018 Jacqueline announced on her Instagram she was divorcing her husband of nearly 9 [Music] years in that same interview John told billboard quote once I got clean I felt this confidence come over me where I thought I could do anything it was an amazing high that was better than any drug I've ever taken to just finally know and see the real me but after that jacine decided she didn't want to be with me anymore and that was a huge shock to me we were married for 9 years for some reason I was thinking about how amazing it would be to enjoy Christmas with her while being clean she often said you don't love me because you never want to do things with me but it was because I kept having to hide my addiction from her all the time so when I knew there was nothing to hide I had everything to offer her my selfishness was gone so coming home to see all my stuff gone and not knowing who she's with I was just devastated within 2 months I was back on drugs this time around I was just super heartbroken I was reaching out for help but at that point I had severed all those relationships my dad was the one who saved my life he found out I overdosed and that the people I was around stole thousands of dollars from me so my dad called me in the middle of the night when I was in withdrawal but I was definitely coherent enough to tell him everything the next day I snapped out of that vulnerable phase and told my dad I was fine but he was already on the plane to pick me up I was back in rehab on July 1st end quote Jacqueline uploaded a now deleted video on her Channel talking about the divorce she explained that they made better friends than partners and that she hadn't been happy for a long time she also stated that she wanted her and J's marriage to be an in insiration for her subscribers a couple they could look up to which is why she stayed in the marriage so long number one I am sorry for my absence I am sorry for slacking so much on YouTube for the past year give or take it has been a hard year to say the least there has been so much going on I mean not only did John and I move into this house together we've had so many issues and we've been going to couples's counseling and therapy and trying so much and just just like things were just getting worse and worse and uglier and uglier and trying to get on camera and like show a happy face even just like blending out my eyes Shadow was hard to do cuz I just felt like I just wanted to like word vomit and just be like ah John and I are unhappy this sucks like these pictures that we're posting like we look so happy but it's not real like we're actually fighting and we're miserable we're trying so hard to make this work but it sucks and like we're we're miserable like I wanted to be able to say those things but I couldn't I just felt like o like just disgusted with myself and it's just H I don't know like I just I did not want to let you guys down I know it sounds so stupid because it's like this is my marriage and my life and my happiness and I deserve my happiness and John deserves his happiness but I I carry a lot of guilt I wanted to be able to give you guys Something to Believe In Forever I know it sounds so stupid but you guys encourag me to stick out my marriage for as long as I possibly could because I just wanted to be that for you I wanted to be that positive role model as a marriage cuz I honestly don't have a marriage that I look up to that I'm like wow that's what I want to be like my parents are divorced you know I don't know a marriage that's been together for a really really long time who's been through hell and back you know and still kicking it so I wanted to be that so bad and I'm sorry that me and John couldn't be that for you but out of my love for John and out of my love for myself I had to let him go and I actually am right now very happy with this decision I know that that's probably hard for you guys to hear but I have been mourning the loss of this marriage for so long I have been so heartbroken I have cried myself to sleep so many nights I mean over the holidays I was just every single night going to bed by myself just balling my eyes out it was terrible and no one knew you know I'm like throwing a holiday party with my friends and family and putting on like the best face that I possibly can just like please please like let this work by the way I not asking anybody to feel bad for me I'm just trying to tell you guys where I'm at I actually don't want anybody to feel bad for me I don't want anyone to be like oh that's so sad because this is just real life it happens breakups happen divorce happens it sucks but going through it it's harder than like what you actually imagine you know it's just it's been really hard but I am a big girl John is a big boy I will be fine he'll be fine the divorce didn't appear to slow Jaclyn down she was on role and intended to make the most of it Jacqueline was officially in her morphe era she was on magazine covers and celebrating on vacation with friends one month after her divorce announcement morphe announced a new partnership with Jaclyn under the name morphe and Jaclyn Hill this new title indicated the relationship between the two was much more than a one-off collab and Jacqueline was now embedded as a part of their business model in June of 2018 morphe and Jaclyn Hill announced their next release relas would come in the form of four themed eyeshadow palettes called The Vault when jacn initially made her first eyeshadow palette with morphe she had picked around 100 shades of color but had to narrow down to only 35 The Vault was the rest of those Shades that jacine initially loved in four different palettes but the release was plagued with issues from the start Becca Cosmetics was back and in a big way Becca filed a lawsuit alleging that the packaging designed for the new collection was an exact copy of the design they had used on their collaboration with jacine looking at the two side by side it's easy to see the resemblance both packaging designs feature a metallic Circle housing the brand name and asymmetrical dots playing out from the center morphe denied any allegations of copying and declared that Becca had no rights to the packaging design the lawsuit was eventually settled in Becca's favor though the terms of the agreement were not made public fans naturally assume that the Vault Shadows would be similar in quality and texture as the OG Jaclyn Hill morphe palette but despite its name the quality issues with the Vault were no secret a number of fans and influencers had been given early access to the pallet some got to purchase the pallet at a Vegas meet and greet with jacqulyn and influencers received the Vault via PR both groups flooded social media with negative feedback ranging from powdery textures to a complete lack of pigment Beauty YouTuber Jackie AA received the vault in PR and filmed a tutorial but her video showed extremely patchy matte eyeshadows from Jaclyn's palette so much so that Midway through the video she changed what color she was going to use for her look there was also the fact that when jacine released a video on her Channel announcing the Vault fans begged in the comments below for her to do four makeup looks one for each palette Jaclyn never did with the backlash about la of pigment and patchy shadows morphe and jacine jumped into damage control they announced that no further pallets would be dispatched from the warehouse until the issues were addressed then they moved the launch date back by 2 months finally when the Vault was officially released in August it was as successful as anticipated and the collection sold out within a day but more trouble began Brewing see in the days after the initial po reviews went up online from early Vegas buyers and influencers with p are morphe and jacn posted on social media that all of the affected pallets had been moved to a quarantine facility to avoid any cross contamination with new batches which were set to replace them Jacqueline went on to promise that the bad pallets were destined for destruction except when the new product was shipped out customers found that their pallets had new stickers laid over old batch coats fans questioned whether the quarantine and destruction narrative was just a ploy to appease customers when in reality they were relabeling and sending out the original pallets Jacqueline posted a video explaining the problems and what was being done to address them she opened with a promise to be honest and transparent but many of her subscribers felt she was anything but Jacqueline claimed in a video she titled let's talk that morphe reused the old packaging with the new product pushing back the launch cost them millions of dollars and it was a very big hit for morphe so that that was like they really showed and they proved to me like who they are as a brand and I thought that was really cool so I did tell you guys that every single old palette from like the bad batch if you will was destroyed I was wrong that is what I was told but it ended up not being the case the real truth is that it has been quarantined it has been moved to a complete different Warehouse it was moved to a different Warehouse before any new shipment came in from China and shipped to Los Angeles but it is gone like they said there was not not one Shadow not one palette left in that entire Warehouse I am obsessed with this right now so I'm just trying to deliver you guys the most accurate information possible about it so as of right now I don't know if like it's still like this moment but as of like a week ago or so the palettes were in quarantine still and they have not destroyed them because at this moment they're analyzing these palettes trying to get to the bottom of what happened and what went wrong and why such a huge amount were inconsistent and the end of the day the old palettes are not being sold which leads me to the next subject which is this whole V2 thing on the back of boxes and the back of palettes you guys are seeing batch codes and then you seeing a production code which says V2 on it and everyone is posting pictures saying I didn't get the V2 I didn't get the version two that means that mine isn't good that means mine's bad even though people are getting palettes that don't have V2 written on the back and they're beautiful and they're creamy and they're pigmented and they're buttery and they're blendable people are so upset because they think that V2 means version two that is not what it means so I personally spoke to the senior vice president of global operations at morphe and talked to him on the phone and asked him like explain to me break this down to me because you have to understand again as a collaborator I'm not involved and no one is involved in things like batch codes and production codes you're involved in swatching the shades and saying this is the color I want this is the formula I want this is the packaging I want this is the marketing idea this is the design this is the layout that's what you do as a collaborator you're not over in the actual lab like printing batch codes on things so I was confused just like you and I'm like okay immediately when I see this I'm like what does V2 mean right so he explained to me that the first 15% of the palettes don't have a V2 after it because they just don't but after the first 15% they all start to have a V2 because they realize that they're going to have to mark it down so there is one with no V2 there's one with V2 and there's also some that are coming out as of this moment with V3 V4 and V5 so it does not mean version to I guess you could say it stands for like Vault 2 vault three Vault four Vault 5 but the ones that don't have it are not old batches and I'm going to be real if I was you guys I probably wouldn't believe me like I'm just being honest and like there's a moment where I didn't believe them and I'm like questioning everything cuz I'm like oh my God like am I being lied to right now Linda would never lie to me she would never ever liked me and Linda has been like investigating this right alongside of me like we're in the CIA like we have gone above and beyond to get to the bottom of this and that's that's where it's at we are not selling you old nasty vaults but I will say they are reusing packaging you will see that like on some boxes there's like stickers over top of it because the packaging was really expensive on this collection and because they ordered so much they were using the packaging which isn't anything like controversial or weird like companies do this all the time it's very common so you guys can see that like some of the boxes like they're being reused and like their stickers on them and stuff like that um I want to move on to something else but first just closing that chapter off I do want to apologize to you guys for making you feel in any way like I have been shoving morphe down your throat recently I have seen these comments quite a lot on social media recently it's been the number one comment that I've seen and I completely I completely get it like I even spoke to Linda last week and I was like after I get this video up I gotta I got to take a break you know like I have to take a not from YouTube for social media but from morphe I was like I know that we just launched this but like I have to walk away from morphe for a minute and and like just get back to makeup because it's what my subscribers and my following want you know people have been telling me that they don't want to watch my videos anymore they're not excited for my videos anymore you know or they're unsubscribing because of it and I completely get it I do not blame you um I actually took a step back and looked over my past few videos and I'm like so it's just been a lot and when I come to YouTube I have not used it as like my Escape like I normally do instead I come to YouTube and I've been thinking about it more as a job and that is my fault and I used to think about it as like a fun place to be in a hobby and like I would use it to escape like I'm so stressed like let me go film something fun that makes me feel good you know um and I haven't been doing that I've just been coming to YouTube like okay I got to do this like this is what I signed up for this is my job I have to do it you know and I lost that and that's not cool of me you know I got wrapped up and I am very thankful for those of you who bring me back to Earth and just kind of like slap my [ __ ] ass around and you're like yo what are you doing like enough with the morphe we want something else like I appreciate that from you guys while Jack took a little break from morphe and uploaded regular tutorials again she also mentioned in a video that she had begun dating someone but wanted to keep it private a while longer in October of that same year she posted a video showing her Halloween party she had hired teams of people to turn her 5,782 ft home into a haunted and luxurious Party House these teams of people hung chandeliers and drapes of silver all throughout the home installed light up flooring and on the out outside they hung red velvet drapes and installed red carpet all around her backyard and the pool she flew in a makeup artist and hair stylist and continued with the red theme for her costume all her best friends sister and family celebrated late into the night she even released a little bit of footage showing a mystery man dancing on her it was clear jacine wasn't letting her divorce or the failed launch get her down she was ready to go right into her next launch which consisted of working with a sunglasses company after the successful sunglasses launch she began slowly bringing morphe back into the picture first by posting a photo of herself in a morphe store and stating that for one of her 12 Days of Christmas giveaway five people would be picked to meet her inside the Tampa morphe store Linda Towell and her brother were the owners of morphe Cosmetics before the makeup influencers and a $2 billion evaluation morphe was a small makeup brush company that Linda and her brother Chris started in 2008 morphe brushes made appearances at trade shows and online as the duo traveled around the country to promote their brand by 2013 Linda and Chris expanded into Cosmetics with their first store opening in Burbank California this video shows Linda in 2014 at the fame Expo in Pasadena California only one year after their makeup line their brushes were still the hot ticket item everyone I am here with one of my best friends in the industry Linda tell everyone who you are and what company you're with hi my name is Linda I'm one of the owners of morphe brushes the booth right behind us and Adam and I go way back yes we do I absolutely love her I've worked with you for years we've done platform Artistry together and I have to tell you we're here to talk about what's hot I'm a big fan of their brushes one of my favorite brushes I've been selling for many years and it's part of my kit is the all fan brush I call it the three in one the reason I love it is because it can really literally do Contour Shimmer and blush I use the black strip as a point of reference to swirl into the product and then tap right on the apples of the cheeks this is one of their top sellling products and then we have our buffer brush which is our all-time favorite it's our number one brush on the counter it's a foundation brush that doesn't saturate so you could use it on liquids and creams and then you can use it on your powders immediately after and then we have our alltime fav Contour brush that's very popular it has a straight edge great for precise application then you go in with that fan brush and you dust off those sharp edges so let's put those up those are brushes that you must get from morphe their makeup line wasn't well known until Linda got the idea to reach out to some of Instagram and YouTube's Top Beauty influencers for makeup collabs some of these upand cominging and well-known Beauty YouTubers were Jeffree Star James Charles and Jacqueline this ballooned the company from small time to one of the top cosmetic Lines by 2017 Jackin tweeted that 1 million of her $38 morphean Jaclyn Hill eyeshadow palettes had been sold that year that was the same Year Linda purchased a mansion known as the house of dreams for $1.3 million the home sits high in the Calabasas mountains it was previously owned by The Biggest Loser executive producer then leased to Britney Spears for 2 years before being sold to Linda the house of Dreams comes with 24/7 security celebrity neighbors like Chloe and courney Kardashian as well as Michael Jackson's mom and Dr Phil's son a new sports Court a glass enclosed wine closet and large walls of bold glass doors in the master suite her brother Chris purchased a home in the same neighborhood one year later but the 10,500 FT Property wasn't Linda's only purchase the year Jaclyn's pallet sold out nor the most expensive Linda also bought another mansion in Hidden Hills California for $12.5 million even with all the extravagance and being referred to as Jaclyn's BFF on her Instagram Linda and Chris kept a low profile but hitching Your Wagon to the likes of James Jeffrey and jacine doesn't come without major drama Linda Towell was mentioned by name in tati Westbrook's bister video which received over 50 million views and was covered by Main stream media like CNN and The New Yorker in the video tati claims that Linda's collaboration with James put quote literally millions of dollars into his bank account end quote Linda was known for turning YouTubers into millionaires almost overnight but before drama get in was even a thought in anyone's mind Jacqueline would close out 2018 by choosing to reveal her new man she captioned she was so happy and thankful for Jordan Tori Jon's former friend AKA Lil cook but dating Jon's friend and former employee would be the least of all the scandals that came to light from 2019 to 2024 scandals that included selling contaminated makeup talking badly about JN online lying about her company stealing another woman's business and turning on her subscribers but not before the other women Jaclyn burned decided to speak out in a big way Jaclyn's years of greed lies and Petty Behavior behind the scenes would cause a swift downfall of the Empire she had built so much so that in the end the only retail outlets to sell her makeup products would be TJ Maxx and other discount stores the final Saga of Jaclyn Hill's cautionary tale will be covered in part two [Music] YouTuber Jaclyn Hill is mourning the loss of her ex-husband John Hill jacine announces the 33-year-old musician's death on behalf of
