No mention of the holy grail for every grumpy old man from backwoods Eastern Europe - the 850/V70 2.5Tdi!

When you absolutely positively have to go to bed each night smelling like you were swimming in diesel.

T6 are nice, but if you run across one that needs a READ unit you are SOL.

98 s70 was a fantastic car, itโ€™s pretty much 99% 850 in an S70 shell. 99 was a totally different car.

That "expert" couldn't even get the fucking displacement right on the B8444S (the Yamaha V8) and B6294S (the N/A version of the P2 T6 engine).

He said the V8 was a 4.2 liter (it is a 4.4 liter for those who can read engine codes) and he also said the na 6 cylinder found in the P2 S80 was a 2.8 liter (only the Bi-Turbo 6-cylinders had that displacement, the N/A is a 2.9 liter)

Than the bitch boy talked shit about the D24, which has almost reached cult status here in Sweden.

The bitch boy also recommend the Ford Short i6 what a fucking twat muppet, bitch you just called the D24 unreliable and then you fucking ass lick Ford UK like the American pice of shit you are.

Also he didn't not mention any other diesels, sure you didn't get any of them in American, but still if you claim to be such a fucking expert than you could at least mention them. What a fucking joke.

I like the car wizard, but this video really pisses me off.

welcome back to the wizard shop we're going to sleep in one more video before you guys are gonna find us in sunny Florida at Concours d'Elegance they're on Amelia Island we're going to do a segment today a vulva what to buy and what not to buy right after this so I have with me here my good friend Adrienne Hicks and I brought him along with me today on this video for one reason here recently last week I was starting to come up with all the different models that I could do for a buy this not that Volvo and I just kept coming up short I personally don't have a whole lot of experience with bobbles I've worked on a few in the shop here and there but as far as to be able to tell you which ones you should buy which one you shouldn't buy I just kept coming up short and then it came to mind I know somebody who does know just about every model they've ever made and tell us Adrian you were a master salesman for Volvo yeah how was a master salesman with Volvo between the years of 1997 in approximately 2009 okay went back later on in my car business career in the year 2016 and was the general sales manager for one of the local dealerships here sweet I know he would be the guy anytime we've gone to any car functions just recently in fact we were at cars and coffee at Stearman airfield there outside of Wichita and any one brings up anything with Volvo he pretty much just take like authority just takes over the conversation and I said why not have him tell us what Volvo's you should buy and shouldn't buy now this one will be a little bit different we're going to do it by decade we're going to start with the 80s the 90s 2000 to 2010 and 2011 to current so we'll give a few models in each era and kind of move up the ladder as we move along one question I have for you though Adrian would you buy a lotus well only if I'm interested in it marking its territory constantly on my driveway oh so this one here is a no-go no no okay I don't know if I'd have one either based on Bill's experience lesson time based on this experience yeah anyway just get back to Volvos we're going to start with the 80s decade and tell me if you were in the 80s let's say 1989 and you had as much cash as you wanted to spend but the Volvo was the one he was gonna buy which a couple of models comes to mind that's pretty easy in the 80s because we're really only talking about two series of cars either the 2 Series or the 7 series okay right and as we've seen movies enjoying his 760 Volvo wagon right it's definitely one I would buy specifically with the stick like what he has that's a cool car but to make this really simple anything that has the four-cylinder engine in it you buy it period anything that is a diesel or some of the 760 s specifically that had the v6 engine which is the same engine as what they put them the DeLoreans we know how that went over all right not I do not buy every six yeah absolutely it pretty much sums up the eighties decade well there's there's another little twist to it okay all right Volvo made a short run of cars that were known as Burt owns okay there were coach built in Italy right when you either have the 2 Series the 260 I believe Bertone or you had what they called the 780 okay okay on to do not buy side of that is the 264 exactly two reasons number one I think it's ugly but that's just my opinion right and then number two it also had a v6 engine in it so if ever you see a 2-door Volvo 240 that looks like it has a chopped roof that was one of the Burt owns okay okay and it has a six cylinder engine in it also on that do not buy less is actually the 780 Bertone but only the 780 per tonne with the six cylinder engine they also made a 780 per tonne that had the 2.3 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder problem solved problem solved and it was a wonderful car I know that you like interiors you'd love the interior that's a big thing for me it's very plush it felt expensive it was a much nicer car right and before we move on to the 90 segment I'll just continue on a little bit of filling in information about Adrian speaking of movies garage if any of you have seen the previous video he did not too long ago where he had everyone put their hand on a Maserati Quattroporte and whoever was the last to take their hand off they won that car well that was him that was Adrian Hicks and he still owns that Maserati today I do so he's a Maserati owner and a little bit more about him although he doesn't sell cars anymore he owns his own business he owns a professional pest extermination business tell us a little bit about that before we move on to the 90s well I am the bug ninja right ninjas are known for killing things so I figured why not apply it to killing bugs so that's what I do now so what I try to do is is bring the same wealth of knowledge and research that I would that I would often do when I was in the car business and apply it to all right the bug business excellent we're gonna include a little link below if you're in the south-central Kansas area and you have pests in your house especially what would be your specialty some of the pests that you really sew on an everyday basis is spiders and roaches and ants in bed bugs is nearly epidemic in the United States right now unfortunately but I do those every day mice rats all those types of things so now let's move on to the 90s let's talk about Volvo's again now the same scenario here you're in 1998-1999 you have that whole decade of cars to choose from an unlimited budget but it has to be a Volvo which ones would you buy okay on the to buy list in the 90s was kind of a revolutionary time for Volvo we almost lost Volvo as a car company in the 90s so a lot of people don't realize that so the advent of the Volvo 850 was huge that brought to bear the five cylinder engines that a lot of people are familiar with now with all which was co-produced with Porsche so as you can imagine it's a very stout five cylinder engine makes great power especially in the turbo variation and that was what they introduced with the 850 so for me the 850 is always going to be a buy okay right in every form whether it was the base five cylinder non turbo the later GL T's that they came out with a light pressure turbo five cylinder in about 97 and especially the T fives that was also a period of time where you saw the advent of what they called the Volvo 850 R that was one Volvo decided to spice things up a little bit right gave us a overboost feature on the five cylinder engine created a little bit more power offered some some different colors to show that you know Volvo was being trendy like you know they never made many cars in yellow but you know if you can find a yellow 850 R stick that's a great card to have right also in the two by Lystra Volvo during the 90s were the Volvo 940s and 960s these were cars that still carried over the four-cylinder engine and the 940 ma 2.3 liter four-cylinder engine like they had in the two 40s and the seven 40s as well as having a turbo variant of that and then later giving us a and I want to say about 97 or so could be wrong on the year but they gave us an inline 6 it was much different it was actually derived from the 5 cylinder and it was still that traditional front-engine rear-drive in the 940 and 960 cars and still had a very premium you know type of ride in the feel to it right is there any in this 90s era that you would say kind of shy away from in the 90s era that that's that's really tough some of the earliest of the all-wheel drive vehicles I would probably shy away from your cross countries and that's going to carry over into the 2000s as well you know those cars were largely just viscous coupled and there wasn't any electronic control over the all-wheel-drive system so if you have a situation where you had one flat tire and all you replaced was one flat tire right you may end up with increased wear over the angle gear or the bevel gear and caused yourself a really expensive service bill at that time also and right around 2000 with the S seventies of all the switched their engine management systems which created a situation where a lot of people would have to go to the dealer in order to get the car serviced ok right because they had proprietary systems to be able to check the car that up until here more recently you weren't able to do on your own in your own garage ok and that kind of brings us right into the third decade we're gonna look at would be 2002 2010 again it's the same scenario we're halfway through the year 2009 a real big fat bank account and it's time to buy a Volvo what's a couple you can think that you would definitely go after and a couple that you would say no way so the ones that I would go after and I'm gonna say there's a little bit of caution right and a little bit of a caveat because when he got to this this more modern car especially around the year 2000 at this point you're gonna be dealing with some worn out bushings in the undercarriage and suspension the spring seats they tend to get worn so I'm saying that I would still recommend these cars but please you know be aware of the fact that you're going to have some maintenance when you get into these cars because these cars are gonna be you know in upwards of 20 years old at this point so they're gonna need something cars that I would go after still a big fan of that five cylinder engine so the s 60s I would still go after those cars you know I would probably skip the first two years so maybe not the 2001 or o2 but the o3 and beyond I would go after those cars I would definitely go after the Volvo s80 but only the SAT after 2004 happy Oh 4 ok ok anything yet before that and an SAT I really wouldn't go for in any of the trims and that's I hate saying that that car still had the early SAT anyway still had the 2.8 liter 6-cylinder inline 6-cylinder out of the 9 60s and s 90s with a few tweaks but at that point they had turned the engine around transverse ok which created a specific problem because that was the largest inline 6-cylinder mounted transverse in any car at that time the problem is that they had to get a particularly small transmission package so they borrowed the transmission out of the front wheel drive GM products especially Cadillac it wasn't working well for Cadillac and it was catastrophic for Volvo yeah those cars had transmission after transmission after transmission I had some clients who had one car that had three transmission changes absolutely so by 2004 with the SAT they corrected that issue Volvo gave the world 2.4 litre five-cylinder engine mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission had great gas mileage great power great torque right it's wonderful cars again in the 2000s Volvo had a 4 raft of products because they had been acquired by Ford Ford pumped and a lot of money this allowed Volvo to really expand its product line so also with in the 2000s especially 2001 to 2004 I recommend the Volvo s40 which had a four-cylinder version of the 5 cylinder engine ok but specifically 2001 to 2004 because they also gave a more modern 5-speed automatic transmission whereas the ones before that from 98 to 2000 had a four-speed automatic transmission and it just didn't really feel all that great on the interior as well alright so you're basically saying the ones to stay away from in this era would be the ones with these GM transmissions definitely it's definitely gonna be a failure points definitely in in it makes me sad to say that about the SAT because in the 2000s Volvo had brought a an SAT what they called a t6 right which took the inline six owner and all of its attributes and added two turbos on it so it made great power but it just wasn't reliable because of the transmission right two thousand four and a half you also saw the release of the second generation of the s forty which gave us a little bigger car it was actually a little bigger in the backseat than an s60 mm-hmm but it also added the Volvo five cylinder in both non turbo and Turbo variants I'm a huge fan of those yeah probably almost to a fault that way better turning radius they still had all of the safety features it was the first vehicle in the world that had four different grades of steel and construction Wow so you know it carried that tradition of Volvo's safety I mean and I think that Volvo synonymous with that so that's probably why we haven't spent any real time talking about that okay I also loved the Volvo c70 S which was a retractable hardtop convertible but it was a retractable hardtop convertible based on the s 40 so it had all of his strengths and attributes okay so we get to the last section we're talking about 2011 to today the same scenario if you could buy any Volvo and also a model or two you can think of that you wouldn't buy in the current market so I would say on the to buy list I would go with the Volvo s60 S + XC 60s and V 60s that had the turbo 3 litre t6 engine ok again Volvo still had a turbocharged inline 6-cylinder this time they had repackaged that six-cylinder in made it made it a little smaller in length so that way they could have a better transmission behind it they solved a lot of issues there were also more modern cars on the interior there were they're great cars in that department I would also point people towards the Volvo s80 this time redesigned a different body style but with the 4.2 liter Yamaha derived v8 yeah wonderful engine I'm a big fan of any powerplant made by Yamaha and doesn't matter who the manufacturer is it's always a Buy for me I had one of those engines inside of an xc90 v8 and it was wonderful and it just feels like you know a rocket inside of a side of an SAT right anything in the in the current crop of vehicles that has the 2-liter four-cylinder forget the fact that it's a 2-liter forget the fact that it's a four-cylinder they're all turbocharged so whether that's a base model you know current Volvo s90 or the t6 which is still a 300 horsepower you know we're better and I'll explain that in a moment turbocharged 4-cylinder but it's turbocharged and supercharged at the same time and the actuation between supercharged turbo is seamless and then Volvo goes another step forward with with their current raft of vehicles and they offer what they call the t8 which then adds electrification to the mix and you end up with a vehicle that's 400 horsepower when you figure in electrification you know and into the future the future looks bright as well because they've really become clever with their packaging on their platforms and they plan to offer electrification on a go-forward basis so you will see a car company that's going to go toe-to-toe with the likes of Tesla very good and in this era in the current market of cars 2011 and newer as there are one or two that you could that comes to mind that you would say to stay away from reluctantly because I own one the Volvo xc90 and the 3.2 they just started to get a little old you know I think Volvo would come to let that product languish for a while before they brought out the all new xc90 s with tons more product offering and tons more technology and now as I look at my vehicle you know as the miles start to pile on it's not aging well alright right you know but you know add for kids that mix and that's probably the reason why I wanted to thank you for coming out Adrianne and sharing your your knowledge with us on the Volvo's and also if you ever wondered where I got the inspiration for my haircut now you know it's low maintenance it's low maintenance there's the book ninja cut yeah so we just got done listening to Adrian and some of the wonderful knowledge he has about Volvo's but before we wrap this up who wanted to actually let mrs. Whizzer give a little bit of a talk about it she actually grew up with the Volvo's was when I was growing up I didn't know just a little kid be like a 240 back in the 80s we had one that we drove to like Montana Idaho I was a little kid a deer hit the side of the car he bashed in Lou this side and we still went on vacation we didn't stop we didn't open that door ever because we never thought we didn't be able to close it again it's amazing I mean can you imagine that my dad was six six and he would crawl over into the car I think my mom who is five three drove more on that vacation yeah I imagine so yeah it was easy to crawl over but he loved those cars my dad dude who's you know old farm boy he loved him because he could work on him mm-hmm simple rear wheel drive cars you had an uncle here in town in the 80s and 90s that had a little gyro shop that worked on Volvo's use our hookup he was a kid I got a car for you okay sure thanks okay well that's a little bit of miss Wizards experience on on Volvo's so here in the next couple of videos like I said you're gonna see us at Amelia Island it's gonna be really cool some cool things you guys going to see there these projects here I mean some of you actually mention in the comments in the last video you saw me driving around in Newton in this truck that's because I took it to get an inspection so I can finally get the title work taken care before we do anything else to the vehicle so that's all been we've got many more projects in the shop that's gonna be updated as soon as we get to that point thanks for following along and listening to Adriene give us the buy this not that on the Volvo if there's any tools or anything you've seen that I've used in the shop you're interested what tools I use check my Amazon affiliates link below there's for sale we also have them for sale in the UK the Amazon affiliates UK there's all kinds of recommendations for sale there I've been writing for auto trader oversteer I have several articles out and several videos out you want to head over there there's content there that's not on my You Tube channel and again thanks for watching we've got many more cool videos to come [Music] you
