There's not much jazz, old or recent, that will sound like that. Try John Scofield, even though its not really the same. You'd be better off looking at guitar players who lean more towards rock. Players like Greg Howe etc. Richie Kotzen, Brett Garsed, Scott Henderson, Mike Stern, Allen Hinds (I will add more as I recall more). There's also the younger generation of fusion/shreddy players like Tom Quayle, parts of whose music you might be interested in.
Guthrie is pure genius .. he MUST know what something is going to sound like the nanosecond before he frets it .. he's constantly flowing with interesting ideas never seemingly hindered by technique. I feel like a kid at Christmas ..
I love Guthrie but I have to say... I don't like his vibrato at all in this video. It seems nervous and uncontrolled. Is it just me?
