the biggest wargaming board in YouTube history it sounds mental and it is but after 14 years of work my monster middlee diarama is getting truly massive but in all that time I have been putting off making one of the most iconic locations from The Lord of the Rings today that all changes the gates of Min tith and the courtyard Beyond are the centerpiece of one of the greatest action sequences in The Lord of the Rings and over the last 14 years you guys have seen me build a huge amount of Min tith in our Siege of Gondor megaboard but at long last the Battleground for Gandalf solo three massive trolls and the fiery Mo of the wolf's head shall be completed now it's been 7 months since we last worked on the minth portion of this Mega board and Middle Earth has been down in the pecking order as the Imperial Palace has vied for dominance but Middle Earth is jumping into the ring and smacking down this scene upstart but before we get Crafting it's time for a project status update so this is my map of Middle Earth and when the mega board is finished every single tile on this map will be built at 28 mm scale now I'm probably going to die before I get that finished but by Gandalf's Love Of the halfling Leaf I'll die trying that just sounds like a weir reference I'm not high I'm just really tired so far we've made some great progress in January we began work on the gray Havens up on the northwest coast of Middle Earth which was a stunning board using 3D print scan from the original film biges Peter Jackson used when filming the trilogy if you missed that video and I think a lot of you did because it did terribly I'll link that down in the description because it is probably my best video ever a couple of years ago up here in the north we made the first part of the aror board the crumbling Frozen city of fornost just before Christmas we jumped over the Misty Mountains and did a bunch of work on the Fortress of dolal I've built edus two times and then ripped it apart uh we we'll come back to that but for the entire 14-year Journey I've been working on the original zor isort Mega board down here in Gondor the board fans or gillath the pelenor fields and the lower level of Min tith and now most of this is still in Australia as it's going to cost about 15 grand to ship it over and as I've been whining about for the last four videos we are so brok so that is where it's staying for now the full Siege of Gondor Mega layout this is mental but when we arrived in New Zealand we kicked off our middlee crafting experience with the most important location in all of the Gondor Mega board the courtyard of Min tith and today we are finishing it we've made a bunch of progress so far on this build we smashed together a whole heap of incredibly screen accurate buildings using games workshops plastic scenery kits we even drove out to the base of alaki the tallest mountain in New Zealand and crafted in the original filming locations for Min tith and the pelenor in the center of the south island of aloa then we crafted a bunch of foam carved buildings and Foundations to knock up the beginnings of an amazing diarama quality gaming board but there's still a huge amount to do we need a massive spur of rock a bunch more buildings the courtyard itself and something else oh yeah an absolutely massive Gat housee so grab your tomatoes and let's craft Middle Earth First on the agenda is an awesome little building I didn't quite finish in our last video and it's a very important structure for two reasons it is the first foam resin and plastic hybrid of the entire minus tith build and as we can see there is already several levels combining both Games Workshop plastic components with handcarved foam and 3D printed resin details and as we move forward with the build this is going to be a style that I use more and more as I run out of games workshop's gorgeous plastic pieces but also it's hopefully going to be the first building to find a way to get some use out of the Gondor Tower kit other than just slapping a tower of some size on top of another structure I want to use this half Tower to create an awesome little building footprint that vaguely captures the aesthetic of a ship Hull Rising through the the waves very gondorian but first I need another level of Gondor buildings to get my upper floor to the height of the top level of the tower a sexy Square GW floor with some foam trim glued in place with foam safe superglue was a nice addition to the structure and then a quick little visit from a rock monster and now the tower height is going to be perfectly level with the floor height of the main structure a bunch of foam trim to get everything kind of pretty and Blended nice together and it was on to the roof Roofing I modified the curved roof pieces in the same way as the tower cutting an extra piece to get that symmetrical shape and then grabbed all of my Roofing bits from The Games Workshop Gondor Mansion kit and started playing with the gorgeous kind of square tiles and the Gablinger's and this building is just an absolute success a real Landmark for the build I think foam carved resin printed injection molded plastic all together in one Mega hybrid but then just to add yet another string to our scenery crafting bow an absolutely mental care package arrived from my mate Davey containing an absolute boatload of fdm 3D prints just a quick shout out to my mate con's new sort of like social networking app for finding on the war Gamers that's called Vox link um all the links are down in the description you guys probably heard me talk about it before uh it's it's awesome so you want to find games get on Vox link go check it out now Davey has been planning on building his own Courtyard of minth but with family life and work he just couldn't find the time to finish it and decided to donate these pieces to the project just for the cost of the filament which was an absolute steal these 3D prints are from a range of different files which I think are sadly no longer available I think one of them might have been called the city of Kings but Davey apparently modified these himself to make them even more screen accurate which you know I just love and to absolutely melt my little crafting heart he even upscaled them to match with my original scale that I set out in my foam crafted templates for the early parts of the city so that we could eventually kind of join it up to the big Gondor board for The Siege event so just a massive thank you to Davey you absolute Legend now a lot of these prints aren't complete so there's going to be a lot of Kit bashing with foam and plastic and other materials but they're going to be a wonderful weapon for our Arsenal and here we can see the first structure completed this one's just a pure print glued up it's an awesome bell tower for the courtyard which is just perfect and saves me a massive foam crafting job in the center of the city but the true Wonder here is of course the parts for the big chunkin gate house now when building such massive projects as the White City of Mines tith magnetizing some components can be an absolute Lifesaver all the various walls and towers of the Gat housee and the ramp parts of the city a prime candidates for magnetization I've been magnetizing different parts of a whole range of projects for years from all the various weapon and Equipment loadouts in our dawn of War Warhammer series all my Horus heresy vehicles from tanks to Titans even destructible ruins on my ocilia mega board but for such a massive project as Min tith we will need a lot of magnets so we got some help from today's sponsor the almighty magnet Baron because magnets they just solve everything if you need magnets for your wargaming then look no further than the magnet baron.com your DIY super magnet home magnet baron.com have a huge range of wargaming magnets which are super powerful and even have specific kits for notoriously difficult to magnetized models magnetized movement trays and magnetized collapsable flight stands for the Epic travel wargaming experience I challenge you to find a better feeling in all of wargaming than the pure Bliss of this moment magnetic Perfection so to score some boss wargaming magnets for all your army needs hit up the magnet baron.com link down in the description so go and show him some love now the gates of Min tith are probably the most important parts of this build and are going to see the most amount of gameplay we need gr to Smashing on through the doors and early on when I made the walls I've used them quite a lot now in battle reports here on the channel and Ryan and Mark and I were constantly knocking and and chipping the foam carved battlements and I was always gluing them back together so the idea of having these battlements as 3D printed elements I I think it's a massive win I've actually done it once before on the Ramis echor outer ring walls from the penor field sections of the board and they were super durable so I'm pretty excited for these prints the gate house pieces are all solid prints which just needed a bunch of cleanup and assembly and one little misprint which needed some tweaks and then just a bunch of ceiling with valo plastic putty and then we've got a great start for gronze victim next is our towers and these are just massive so to save on plastic Davey had only printed the top sections and we're going to need to do some foam carving to fill out the base I cleaned up the two top pieces and then it was time to measure out the foam required I worked out a pattern of sheets of different thicknesses to create some cool brick work patterns and then set about cutting a heap of footprints of the tower into each of those sheets I Ed the upper section of the Tower as my template and with so many individual layers of foam it was pretty inevitable that they all wouldn't be perfect but I glued them together with liquid nails and some foam skewers and while that glue was still drying did a quick test fit and then trimmed and contoured the edges until we had a really nice form factor up and down the whole Tower I'll be able to blend any of these dodgy joins later on anyway then once it was dry just a monster amount of carving I only need to carve the faces that are going to be seen so in goes my scalpel pencil to widen the grout lines and then texturing with L foil as this is the sides of all of these foam sheets there's no hard skin which makes it take texture just incredibly well and the rolling texture action of that foil kind of Blends a lot of the wonky foam bits together now if you've missed all of the Middle Earth battle reports here on zoror I have some exciting news after finally listening to the YouTube algorithm and accepting that I just can't upload battle reports to this main Channel I've decided to repurpose my old streaming channel for some Middle Earth battle report goodness and my hope is that every single time I finish a new section of the Middle Earth Mega board you guys will actually get to see a game on it over on my middlee SBG Focus channel zor of the Rings I've got brand new battle reports that were edited last year and they're never released about to be uploaded and some sexy Classics on minuth and pelenor to get you hyped and when this Courtyard is finished we'll do a banger game on this board and uploaded over there so go and subscribe to zorp of the Rings link down in the pin comment and the description if you want to see my middlee boards getting played on then the final detail for the Gat house is the little stairwell access porch right up on the top which has a deliciously curved roof which at this Mega scale is absolutely perfect to be represented by the gorgeous curved roof pieces from the Gondor Tower kit yay for getting more use out of the tower I glued up two of those and then cut a simple foam STP structure to drop in underneath and textured it up and created a nice little doorway recycling more plastic using some of the spare doors that I cut out when making the OS skilia ruins then it was time to slap it all down together and there we have the first portion of our gate house here's a little locky for scale this thing is massive before we keep working on the walls and extending the gate out into the Peno Fields we're actually going to jump back inside the walls but first we uh need to clear some damn room in this Workshop now as you guys probably know I'm working on this build alongside the Imperial Palace and as I'm filming this I'm not actually sure if I'm smashing through with this video or it's going to get paused again and jump back to the Palace but I need some room right now to lay out the full board so that we can work out where we're going next I grabbed the large sections of the palace and slapped them back up onto the top of my new patreon shelves and just an absolute monster thank you to all my patreons and YouTube channel members who paid for these with their support without them we would not be able to juggle projects like this a little plan that I had for both of these projects when they're a bit more painted and we're up to detailing I'm going to make some banners that hang off the battlements Down the Walls with the names of all the patreons and channel members who've been supporting the channel I just think it's a really cool way to have you guys in the build so if you want your name written on the build or you want to be accessing the patreon Discord which I am just murdering with work in progress photos like every day I'm spamming the crap out of them at the moment uh go and check out patreon link down in the description or you can become a channel member by clicking join right here on YouTube a huge thank you to everyone who's joined the zorron family recently or even if you're super thanks or or just commenting subscribing liking all that stuff it means a huge amount for my family so thank you so much with a bit of space in the workshop I slap down everything built so far all of our buildings the foam Foundation that will become our road textures and of course our new gates and man this Min tith Courtyard is looking fine and I'm starting to get a feel for what the board is going to become so this is looking awesome and it is much bigger already than I sort of originally planned obviously the gate still has more to go where I'm standing probably even some pelenor Fields back here I think the edge of the board on this side is really about here just a few bits of Lane work and Road and then where you're standing there's the second wall the entire big Rocky escarment coming down and and then on this side there's an entire other city block extra buildings there's a lot left to do we're going to dive into that next but we're going to need a little bit of help the beacons were lit and another care package arrived this time from the almighty Alby from micr Forge minis who sent me more of his glorious resin details that we've used a bunch already in this build I took stock of all of those pieces my foam and of course the last of my mountain of Games Workshop plastic and then set about planning a bunch more sexy hybrids to really trick out this part of the city I leapt back to our key reference from the films and there are a few shots where we can see the buildings we want to make popping up over the Stables though I couldn't really see too much detail I latched onto a little rooftop that I could just make out in the city skyline and decided to get Crafting I actually started with a bunch of Games Workshop plastic pieces the stepped Gable and the roof tiles are just wonderful but with those two roof sections assembled I grabbed a bunch more wall tiles and built a simple Square structure but was careful to pick some flat-sided outer walls on one side to mount my half roof hard up against it building in a layer of floor tiles to make a strong foundation and keep all of those walls together and of course kept it modular but then it was time for some hybrid action with some foam for my lower levels I grabbed my MDF Jigs and some of elb's resin details and then got to work cutting and creating a simple block foundation with some Stone texture and then glued the plastic upper structure in place before adding a bunch of detailing beginning with the micro Forge mini Archway on the front just like our film reference as well as a bunch of foam stripping which wasn't quite screen accurate but I sort of felt it needed to be there to translate this nicely to Warhammer terrain now while I've been chipping away at Min tith over the last few weeks I've been getting absolutely hyped by my mate Dan's epic Min tith build except it's all in Lego I've got his Instagram bugus bricks linked down in the description go and check it out and a big shout out to Dan every time I build something I'll send him a pick and then he sends back a pick of him building it in Lego it's been great fun often you end up just banging your head against a big foam carved wall when you're making such detail oriented builds from the movies and it means that progress can be quite slow so just as a reward to you guys before we sign off this video I wanted to give you all a quick glimpse into the future and dose you up with that completionist dopamine because my goodness by the time you're seeing this video I've already done a bunch more on the build it's absolutely humming and the White City is almost ready for war you guys will see a whole bunch more progress on this build in the next video as well as some Mega updates for the Imperial Palace very soon if you love The Return to middlee please slam it down in the comments and let me know the more you guys love it the more Middle Earth you'll get remember to join the patreon or become a channel member if you want your name in blazed on Min tith and the Imperial Palace when we detail up the city with banners and let me know which project is your favorite thanks guys I will see you in the next one
