What to eat In Rome: 10 Must-try Dishes Plus A Very Special Bonus!

well we just arrived here in rome and we're so excited to tell you all about what to eat in rome today we're going to show you all the great food of this great city so stay tuned alrighty [Music] if you find yourself at the train station here in rome you might want to go upstairs to look at the food court there's lots of options here for you to grab a quick lunch so let's go take a look all right one thing is very popular in rome for lunch is a pizza altario it means a slice of pizza and usually we got it for by the way so you can buy one slice two slices slice and they wait it for you and then they pay for the amount of pizza that you will have yeah i think that's actually a really good option because i actually don't want to eat a whole pizza and apparently sharing is not allowed i don't believe it but apparently all right but this is one way that you can have a small slice of pizza and then move on with the rest of your lunch all right let's go take a look [Music] and here we are um i have two pieces of pizza i chose ham and a little bit of a it looks like a cream cheese and on this one i have a margarita and again nice thing is that i can choose one of each imagine go to a pizza place and ordering two pizzas that just would never happen but with pizza italia you can do it and i choose mine like mortadella and ricotta and prosciutto cocktail mushroom or ham and mushroom let's give it a try very fresh the tomato sauce is really really fresh it's really really good after lunch in italy you always have a coffee delicious [Music] so we're talking about what to eat in rome and what's the food of rome and this is something that is not typical of rome so when you see a restaurant like this as everything on the menu from pesto pasta pasta bolognese these are not typical things of rome so when you're in rome try to avoid restaurants like this especially in front of this location because they're beautiful but it's not the authentic roman food [Music] well folks about dinner time and now we are walking towards trastevere one of the best area to go for dinner trastevere is the area used to be a peasant area but now it's one of the best area for restaurants and clubs and places to go for spritz or a glass of wine it also happens to be the area where our favorite restaurant in rome is siamberto absolutely so let's stick with us and we take you to this amazing area of trusted right all right let's go [Music] and we made it we made it to transfer this area at night is absolutely crazy with people having fun and best to the room guys right here here we are in front of our favorite trattoria in rome the umberto exactly and tonight we're going to show you what to eat all of the local stuff you'll find right here perfect let's go so when it comes to a restaurant in italy and you see pictures of food that's probably not the most authentic look at this menu it's like perfect there's no picture you have to ask what it is but this time they have it in english in english all right so when you're in rome and you're wondering what to eat well one of my favorite things as a starter or an antipasto is called fiori dazuka and what it is it's the the flower of the zucchini and the way they do it here in rome is they take the flour they stuff it with cheese and anchovies and then they bread it and deep fry it and let me tell you it just becomes amazing here let's take a look and see what it looks like inside there you go as you can see absolutely let's give it a try [Music] is it cheesy no need to say more it's cheesy salty crunchy and it's got vegetables so it's healthy and this is another typical dish of rome it's called cacho paper it's only two ingredients pecorino cheese and pepper but it's absolutely delicious and it's mixed together with some pasta water to make everything comes together and it's absolutely delicious let's give it a try [Music] savory and peppery so good you must try this when it comes to worm all right so my main course or my my primo for me tonight is going to be my main course is cabanara now by the way if you've been following the channel a long time you'll know that andrea and i made cabanara during our kovid 19 lockdown here's the video for you take a look so you can follow along and make kaminara too but anyway for those of you that don't don't know cabonara is basically an eggy dish in america they will make it with cream but that is a mistake you'll have to use eggs and bacon or pancetta and add a little bit of parmesan and of course the black pepper you must have the black pepper so let's give this a try an amazing dish [Music] all right so no matter what restaurant you go to our favorite restaurants or any of the local good restaurants in rome you must make reservations at least a week in advance because you're going to be disappointed if you if you think you're just going to show up on a friday or saturday night and hope to get it you know a table it's not going to happen and actually that is very true with pretty much any rest any good restaurant in any major city in italy so make reservations in advance when you come to italy something that you never find on the menu is spaghetti and meatballs why because that doesn't exist in italy one thing is existing italy are meatballs if you ask kindly to the restaurateur they might put some pasta on the side and you can do an ikea spaghetti meatballs and put them together yourself but let's try these meatballs delicious the tomato sauce was really fresh and the meat is juicy and tender really good try the meatballs right here in italy and ask for pasta on the side if you really want now you might be wondering what should you order to drink when you're at a restaurant in rome when it comes to wine in the summertime i like local wine it usually comes like this it's nothing expensive there's no fancy bottle it doesn't cost a lot of money but it's the local stuff it's what everybody drinks let me tell you incredible [Music] [Music] now if you visit italy you know right away that there is going to be a huge coffee culture and the people in napoli in naples they might say that they have the absolute best coffee in italy but i think that's a mistake if you visit rome i think rome has the best coffee in italy to me they both taste about the same but the big difference is in rome they do not heat the cups like the people in naples do and naples they're so hot they burn your lips they're meant to drink quickly but here in rome it's made so that you can sit down drink it over a few minutes enjoy life and that's exactly what i'm going to do [Music] next up on the list of foods to eat in rome is the fried artichoke so the best time of the year to eat the local roman jewish fried artichokes is in the winter time usually from october through april may that sort of thing you'll find them but today it's june so let's see what happens and you can see they look they're so they're fried and they kind of look like potato chips only they are artichokes and i guess it's vegan as well so and now it's my turn to try them these are crunchy salty and creamy they're so good you must try this artichoke when you come to rome that's another great thing of rome [Music] okay so no trip to rome could be complete without having a little bit of gelato gelato may not be specifically the food of rome but it's actually the food of italy everywhere you go in italy they all have their own gelato and this place just happens to be the most famous gelateria in rome and as you can see here there is a line that goes for probably a quarter mile down the road and it's for good reason because it is a very good place to stop for gelato so if you want some gelato and you're in rome come to la jolla goletti and so if you're in rome and you want some gelato come to gold so if you're in rome come down to this famous place called [Music] and we're back on our favorite restaurant in rome the umberto to try some more food of raw so this is called chicory pasada it's greens that they sorted with garlic olive oil and some chili peppers so they're slightly spicy but they're delicious let me try them slightly bitter but very garlicky and a little little hint of are really really good you should try them when you come to rome this is the food of rome all right so next on the list of foods to eat in rome is spaghetti with a marchi chana sauce or in this case it's actually bucatini and boogatini is a pasta a little bit thicker than spaghetti a marcher chana is a tomato based sauce with one charlie more bacon either way anything with bacon is better let's give it a try if you're a fan of meat sauce and you're a fan of tomato sauce order the amateur channel next time you're in rome and we continue our journey on the food of rome and this is another very famous dish rock it's called gricha which is practically pasta with cheese and one challenge it's really delicious let me try actually it's in rome as well stay tuned [Music] well folks we continue our tour of what to eat in rome with the another kind of artichoke this is the karchafo ala romana it's braised in a nice garlicky sauce it's usually really really good let me taste the garlic and i think we use white wine as well it's really creamy and melts in your mouth delicious well folks remember yesterday we promised you something really special for you well we found it we always told you that alfredo pasta does not exist in italy was not entirely true they invented it in this restaurant it's called ver alfredo the true alfredo of rome it's a very classic restaurant here in rome and i'm going to try fettuccine alfredo the way they were intended let's go and try and now we finally got our table here at alfredo's i'm shocked for all these years i have been told that fettuccine alfredo does not exist it's a myth but at this restaurant apparently it exists this restaurant is incredibly charming it looks stuck in the 50s everything is the same as it was in 1950 even like the silver cutlery the silver bucket it's really really cool definitely must try oh look at this our appetizer is here so this is deep fried deliciousness we have zucchini blossom we have supreme we have potatoes and i'm not entirely sure what this is so we have to try it so i'm going to try to please that's it so this is called supreme something that people in rome eat for lunch usually and it's something that people eat on a street but here they have it for dinner so let's try it's supposed to be gooey and cheesy and [Music] creamy and chewy it's really really good it's rice and cheese and tomato sauce delicious i nearly got cheesed what is it um something with cheese let's take a look let's go cut in half deep fry mozzarella hmm wait give me the camera hmm i didn't get fragments whoa i'm the bucket of that it's so good [Music] [Music] and there we have it the fettuccine alfredo so the main difference with the fettuccine already used to in north america these only have two ingredients butter and parm and the way they mix them that makes them creamy and saucy look at this it's so creamy there's no cream no garlic nothing else just butter and cheese let me give it a try [Music] explosion of flavor but i think some black pepper are going to be really good with this so wait a second fettuccine alfredo actually does exist apparently it does all right let's learn in rome let's try it with a little black pepper i have most of the wings in america [Music] yeah the freshly ground black pepper makes total difference you should dry it put the gin alfredo in raw [Music] [Music] so guys this was delicious you can see my plate is empty and this concludes our what to eat in rome video obviously this is not all the food around this is just the food of rome that we like there's many many other things in rome that you can order and you can eat but this is the one that we prefer and that the one we always order now there are many other things they can make in rome that are not authentic of rome like lasagna spaghetti bolognese pesto sauce those are not typical of rome when nothing is not good
