May has been the craziest month for high quality indie game releases that I've ever seen several games that have been anticipating for months or even years dropped this month like animal well lurel lion Del laser eyes 1,000 times resist but there have also been some unexpected curve balls like Indica cryptmas mullet Mad Jack and more and there's still more to come this month with nine Souls hay and other games still to release so in this video I'm going to run through my top May Indie releases many of which are already out some of which have demos you can play right now and some of which are still to release so buckle up for a run through the month that I'm calling Indie gedon likes and comments are appreciated and I'll tell you about the Channel's patreon at the [Music] end so the month started off really strong with the release of Indica a game that I didn't know about until next Fest earlier this year it dropped on Steam on the 2nd of the month and is now out on PlayStation and Xbox as well and it was developed by odd meter a Russian Studio that relocated out of Russia partly due to the game's irreverent handling of Russian Orthodox Christianity and partially because they were outspoken about the invasion of Ukraine but somehow amidst all of that the game has come out very polished so Props to odd meter for getting it done it's a strange historical Adventure game set in a medieval steampunk Russia in which we play as a nun called Inda who has let's call them Visions as you run around solving puzzles finding items in a plagu tale adjacent kind of way but what sets this one apart is it's weirdness it uses 1980s pixel art sometimes in unexpected ways there is a voice in your head nrat in that Stanley Parable style it's a short game but it's well priced at $25 so support this developer and take a risk on a weird Bold game that's [Music] indicia and in a crazy month the ninth was especially crazy we got five indie games all of which I wanted to play that all came out on the same day the first one was animal well developed by shared memory AKA Billy basso and published by big mode AKA YouTuber Dunkey it's a mysterious Metroid Vania Style game that has clever pixel art that us filters and shaders for interesting effects and it's a game that's really interestingly built around finding Secrets figuring out the behaviors of animals both big and small and using a really interesting set of tools that rework the traditional skills we expect from the genre I've played 3 hours of this one and it went by in a Flash I think we really do have something special on our hands here this one's a must play for indie game fans it's $25 and it's out on Steam and Playstation it's also included on ps+ extra for anyone who still uses that after the price rise more thoughts from me soon on this one that's animal well the next one I have for you is another really special one it's 1,000 times resist developed by Sunset visitor and published by a fellow traveler and I already have a half hour video up on my Channel about this game so if you're interested in a deep dive you know where to find it but it would have felt remiss to leave it out of a video about May indie games this is an adventure game set in a far future where Humanity has been decimated by an outbreak that makes you cry yourself to death after an apparent Alien Invasion you play as Watcher one of six priestesses of a sort in the order of the old mother Your Role is to observe your sisters both in the present and in what seem like VR simulations of the past there is some exploration gameplay with time Skip and zipline mechanics but it's the story that's the real star of the show here it's a complex layered narrative that takes in themes of motherhood immigrant and Adolescent feminine experience bullying belonging loyalty devotion and questioning the story is told in chapters there are some big events and big twists and I found myself absolutely absorbed by the strange Melancholy of this game it's out on Steam and switch but it's been pretty harshly optimized for switch so steam is the place to play if you can this one will be on my mind at games of the year time that's 1,000 times resist the next one isn't my genre exactly but it's been getting some nice reviews so I thought it was worth a mention it's Crow country developed by sfb games it's out on Playstation Xbox and PC and it's it's a top- down retro survival horror it has stylized almost legol likee characters and it touches on a lot of tropes in the genre in a way that fans will no doubt love you're going to be counting your ammo and Med packs using key cards and using strange statues to open doors finding lock combinations Written in Blood and so forth It's set in an abandoned theme park which is always spooky and there are reports of monsters there and you're quickly going to find out what they are all about I tried the demo and I found it a little bit clunky especially the aiming mechanic but I think if you like Resident Evil Silent Hill and games like signal list this might be one for you that's Crow country but the ninth wasn't done yet there were still two of the games to come out on this day one of them was Crypt Master it's an impressive weird mixture of tabletop text adventure and Dungeon Crawler you use the WD keys to move around on a grid and then you type in the things that you want to do for example to open a chest or when you talk to the cryp master to play fun guessing games with them and talk to them and try and find things out when you correctly guess letters they will go into your skill tree so there's a kind of a strange version of hangman or Wordle here where you have to fill in the letters of skills to be able to use them it's a very polished game and a very unusual concept it feels like the kind of thing that devolver might usually release which is obviously High Praise given their track record it's only out on PC for now and I think it's a game that you definitely need a keyboard for so I'm not sure if it will come to consoles but it's out now on Steam so check it out that's cryptmas and rounding out that crazy May 9th was little kitty big city this is a very cute and wholesome exploration game where you play as a cat who falls from a high ledge and has to get back home to do so you explore a cute Japanese town with GAA machines everywhere with shrines to discover with people walking around it's a really delightful little sandbox you meet other animals who give you side quests and there are things to do everywhere there's a collectathon where you pick up shiny things and find hats to wear I finished this one in 3 and 1/ half hours you can do it in less than that if you want to but there's still Lots left to do so I'll be going back to it for sure it's out on Game Pass so if you have that you can play it for free it's also out on Steam and switch that's little kitty big city on the 14th dread delusion came out of Early Access on Steam it's a kind of a lowii firstperson Skyrim nightmare with an art style I would describe as aggressively nauseating it has this Blood Red Sky and this neon green vegetation and texture resolutions that are mismatched giving it this really crunchy grimy kind of look you play as a prisoner who is released from an Airship during an invasion of a sky island The Invasion has failed so you're walking through the battlefield seeing es everywhere and enemies you have ranged and melee attacks you find weapons and throwing knives and healing potions and it seems like there's a lot of deep lore in this game too I played an hour of this one and honestly it was hard to look at after a while but it's definitely intriguing I think it's going to get a bit of a cult audience it's out now that's dread [Music] delusion on the 15th mullet Mad Jack came out on Steam the first I heard of this one was when the fantasy critic bot announced that it had gotten an 87 on Metacritic VI L had to check it out it's a stylish firstperson action Rog likee in which you're drafted to participate in a violent future game show you Barrel through tight linear levels killing enemies that are trying to stop you by shooting them booting them into traps and charging up instakill melee takedowns but the twist here is time pressure you have 10 seconds to live at the start of every level and killing enemies will recharge that by a couple of seconds which makes some frantic Forge ahead gameplay it's frantic and fast and furious and I think if you like classic Doom neon white Bullet Storm and anger foot then it could be the game for you it's out now on Steam and it's deck verified that's mullet Mad [Music] Jack on the 16th we got laureli and the laser eyes the latest from Simo this one's published by the ever reliable Anapa interactive and it's a deep Noir detective game set in a haunted hotel it has a very cool monochromatic visual style and it seems like a fairly hardcore puzzle game with keys mazes object and memory puzzles riddles codes messages and so forth it throws a lot at you fast and the developers even released a special notebook that you can buy to keep alongside you as you play you'll definitely have to take a lot of notes to get through this one it's an intriguing game that looks like it's going to take a lot of mental bandwidth so I think I'll pick this one up after the Indie Rush is over that's laurelai and the laser [Music] eyes that brings us almost up to date so there are three games left all of which are yet to release the first one is paper trail coming out on the 21st for Steam and all of the consoles it's a top- down hand painted game with puzzle gameplay couched in a strong Story the main gameplay mechanic in this one is one I haven't seen before actually each screen is like a double-sided piece of paper with different stuff on each side you can hold on to the paper at the sides or the corners and fold it to make bridges complete or to make ways forward or to complete patterns that open doors it's a really cool and ingenious mechanic and you can try it out for yourself in the demo this one comes out on the 21st looking forward to trying out in more depth that's paper trail on the 23rd we get hauny the top down game set in the afterlife with a mixture of mellow twin stick shooting gameplay very traversal and puzzling and The Haunting mechanic that gives it its name where you can possess all different kinds of objects and beings like a bug that will let you climb trees and then float down like an obelisk that you can collapse to kill enemies I really really like the demo of this one it has a really strong Vibe and a nice story and the gameplay seems to do quite a lot of different stuff so there's quite a lot of variety in the demo it's coming to Playstation switch Steam and Xbox including a day one game pass release you love to see games like on Game Pass try it out yourself when it releases on the [Music] 23rd the final game I have in this epic month of Indie Games is coming out on the 29th which is my birthday so I'm treating this one as a birthday present and it's a perfect gift it's another game that I really love the demo of it's a 2D pixel art game with tight combat focused on parrying and pinpoint platforming they're are tough little combat gauntlets you have to get between checkpoints so it's a little bit saly or sakiro in infuenced you could say and I will admit that the demo boss definitely took me a few tries to get past but I did get past it but I think what really hooked me about this game was its intriguing sci-fi story and the really really Lush graphics with a luminous color palette and some kind of sci-fi Samurai kind of vibe it's coming to Playstation switch and PC on the 29th so give it a try that's nine Souls that's it for May it's maybe the best month for Indie releases that we've ever seen likes and subscribes and comments are all appreciated and you can support support the channel at patreon.com inthe Wild which has loads of fun perks like a patreon only Discord server and behind the scenes content thanks for watching and see you on the next one
