only in vr chat will you see master chief kratos hutao and pikachu talking it up in mcdonald's you might see it in fortnite one day who knows i got over it avatars an integral part of vr chat one of the many reasons it is as popular as it is today a whole section in worlds is dedicated to avatars it's really fun to explore all these different worlds and check out the huge variety of models that creators have made if you have a favorite character from a show movie anime and or many other types of media a model of them in vr chat probably exists if they don't you have the power to make it yourself although you will need to tinker around with unity and maybe blender the main avatar i used to wear was who tower from getchen impact i used it for the longest time and it was the avatar that my friends associated with me yeah have you watched arcane that she's animated so that means it's an anime oh okay that's really good that's pretty i get it for me that's a cartoon until i decided that i wanted to have my very own custom avatar so i commissioned one of my friends who is an avid avatar creator to make me one and this is when i got my first look into the world of avatar creation in vr chat my friend group and i like to hang out at deluxe tavern one thing they do a lot is mirror dwell i've always wondered to myself what the hell are they doing if they're playing in desktop mode they're obviously tabbed out of vr chat whoa it just happens that a bunch of them make their own avatars no one in the background oh my god what the boo oh my they spend hours upon hours editing modeling doing all these things that i have almost no experience in i personally do not have much interest in making my own avatars because the last time i tried it i made this it's extremely hard to learn for me it's time consuming and it's mind-boggling but i could definitely see people take an interest in it you can let your creative juices flow and make anything you want for better or for worse so let me talk about a little bit how my commissioning process went um i wanted something that was unique to me and something that i could be recognized by besides my username and profile picture in public worlds so i went to someone who i knew had some knowledge in avatar creation and i asked her hey yo can you make this say no more she said as we began the process listen i'll be honest i completely forgot the questions i was going to ask you so let me let me pull it up real quick skye first question how did you get into avatar creation in vr chat so i started playing vr chat in may of 2020 and kind of what got me into playing was it wasn't necessarily like avatar creation but it was mostly like just the content creation aspect of your chat in general like i was just like really attracted to like just the whole content creation aspect of it and then you know i i looked into it and was like whoa like you could make anything you want like you could be anything you want absolutely absolutely yeah also all right also just like uh what what to you do you like about making avatars working on stuff and like you know taking time to learn how to do things it's very relaxing i mean obviously some points it could be nerve-wracking but for the most part i find it really relaxing to just kind of like put a lot a lot of effort into something especially if it's you know stuff that people are gonna say or that people are like you know oh like i can't wait to see this avatar working on that avatar creation for me at least right super complicated i have no idea what i'm doing it took me so long just to like make a stick man right for anyone who is getting into avatar creation working with unity and blender do you have any tips for them there's a lot of avatar discord servers most of the people who like sell avatars and make assets and [ __ ] like that like you can go on their discords and you know they'll have sometimes they'll even have like free avatars and assets and stuff that they give out so like you know yeah i guess it just takes time though it really just takes lots and lots of patience it's good to ask for help from like people that you know like know things and stuff but also at the same time like it really just comes down to like you learning stuff yourself because that that is the only way that you're going to learn how to do anything is if you die i just don't want to that's it you did it i did it yeah good job good job you did very good for your third or i think his third interview man i really should have spent more from you guys is why is she my profile picture why would i use this to represent me i don't know i just thought it looked cute together we went on this website called boof a marketplace where people can buy and sell their work you can often find plenty of different models and 3d assets here i had a lot of fun just searching for these assets and it gave me a better understanding of why my friends just sit afk in front of a mirror all day so many different possibilities to be whatever you want vr chat gives you that opportunity oh my so after three weeks and plenty of conversing here is my avatar it ended up looking really really nice check it out it's my youtube channel i'm doing like the fortnite dance oh my ankle if you really want to you can buy your own vr chat model that people have created and the prices can get pretty high up there some of the more popular models that you'll see can cost you upwards of 50 dollars but sometimes you'll find some pretty decent looking ones for cheap like this one now you might be wondering why in the hell would i spend 50 for a model when you have all these other avatars that you can use for free that is a great question and one that i thought to myself the rusk model i've used in my previous vr chat videos is 50 and i got to use it for free because i found it in the world it's like when microsoft bought minecraft for 2.5 billion dollars when you can just buy it for 27. i mean how dumb can you get a lot of these models are made from scratch and by purchasing them you get access to all the files meaning you can customize everything to your liking the price of this model is equivalent of 13 copies of among us but let me explain avatar creation can be a hobby similar to how playing video games is a hobby or getting into virtual reality my mom will never understand why i am willing to spend 60 on these games let alone spend more than a grand for vr stuff it's what makes me happy and it's what i'm passionate about people spend hours making avatar so that they can wear them in vr chat or display them in worlds for others to use lola don is a great example of what is possible every time he streams on twitch he always has a new avatar to show off they're often very memey and funny avatars and from that comes pretty entertaining content to watch you guys know who hey i'm b is i know you do to my knowledge she commissioned her own avatar to be created and i say it fits her well because she's a bumble bee if someone runs around and sees a bumblebee flying around they'll go oh yeah it's that one person what the [ __ ] why am i getting on your other glass but you're stupid what the [ __ ] what are you trying to say boy i know you ain't trying to roast me with your nasty yeah but you're ugly i like having a main avatar when i play vr chat besides my username and profile picture it's another way my friends can recognize me and that's one reason i wanted to get my own model yo yo chill on the beach i'm [ __ ] spitting on your mic i gumroad is another place to buy vrchat models and assets look at this dog that you can buy for forty dollars or this e-boy looking at us do for eighty dollars there are also plenty of creators on fiverr offering custom models i've never used it personally or know anyone that has so i can't give my opinion on it but please be aware that if you're going to be commissioning an avatar and you have the money don't go throwing it at random people and do your research some of these creators charge some hefty prices and sometimes you won't get your money's worth guy paid 75 bucks for this this model is supposed to be full body and the guy gave me this model to fix it because he said this model has pretty bad bends it bends pretty weirdly so when i try to bend this leg here ah yeah that happens well the problem is that this avatar can't really have bends because there's nothing to bend here so this is how spine bends yeah very nice yeah can you can you imagine just like looking at your child with his wrist yeah i don't even know what the [ __ ] is going on there dude if you have any info however i would strongly appreciate it if you would leave a living off of it and many others do it for fun or maybe a combination of the three if it weren't for the game's dedicated and diverse community the game wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is you like to lick butter off of people no oh that's okay i can put the butter on you what the [ __ ] is that i thank all of you creators out there who take the time out of your day to make new vr chat content
